In this episode of Next on the Tee, we're joined by 2019 Charles Schwab Cup Champion Scott McCarron, as he gears up for the new season. Scott shares insights into his current health and the state of his game as he prepares for another competitive year. We also discuss the accessibility and visibility challenges the Champions Tour faces, despite the exceptional talent and fan engagement from its players. We explore why the PGA Tour seems to treat the Champions Tour as an afterthought and how that might change when Tiger Woods turns 50 and potentially joins the field. Scott reflects on his leadership role within the Tour, offering his perspective on the upcoming changes to the PGA Tour in 2026, including the reduction of full-time Tour cards and the impact of LIV Golf's emergence has had on player earnings. We then take a deep dive into Scott's impressive record at the Senior PGA Championship, a tournament where he's consistently performed well, and discuss his chances at Congressional Country Club this year. He also reflects on his past successes in Atlanta, where he has multiple victories at TPC Sugarloaf, and how playing on a course with such great memories impacts his confidence. In a fun hypothetical, Scott answers the question: if he could turn back time, regain peak health, and take one more shot at a title—where would it be? Finally, we switch gears to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the 1980 Miracle on Ice, one of the greatest moments in sports history. Scott shares his thoughts on whether it stands as the greatest sporting event of his lifetime or if another moment holds that top spot. Tune in for a compelling conversation covering everything from the Champions Tour's future to unforgettable sports moments with one of golf's most respected voices, Scott McCarron.

Since helping her husband earn his first superintendent position more than a decade ago, Jacqueline Severidt has made a career out of coaching golf executives up the career ladder. Her do's and don'ts are essential for anyone aiming to retire from their next position. Jacqueline is the founder and owner of Severidt Consulting, a private club marketing firm, and has nearly 20 years of experience securing contracts for businesses and individuals. For more than a decade, she has been supporting top individuals in the golf club industry as they earn premier positions along the East Coast, raising the standard for talent acquisition. Jacqueline assists with strategy, portfolio creation, and pre-interview support, including presentations and coaching. She has successfully secured contracts for individuals at all leadership levels, from first assistants to general managers and department heads. Her clients have been hired at prestigious clubs such as Congressional Country Club, Columbia Country Club, Chevy Chase Club, Woodmont Country Club, Round Hill Club, The Buffalo Club, Washington Golf and Country Club, and many more. Jacqueline is married to Ryan Severidt, the director of golf courses and grounds operations at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland. The couple has two children. Top 2 Tips to Make Your Application Stand Out After helping golf executives secure leadership positions for more than 10 years, Jacqueline has seen application portfolios that run the gamut from eagles to double bogeys. Here are two of her top tips to help your resume stand out: Firstly, save your compliments. Standard reference letters from colleagues are expected, but unprompted feedback from relative strangers can be more impactful. If you've hosted a tournament or worked an event and received positive feedback about your performance, include those notes or emails in your portfolio. Second, quantify your accomplishments. Use metrics to prove your results to future employers. Highlight how many man-hours you saved by implementing a new strategy, how much money you saved on a project, or how much you grew the membership at your course. The Importance of Work-Life Balance According to our 2024 Golf Course Superintendent Employment Trend Report, 80% of respondents are trying to improve their work-life balance. This is a challenge for golf executives dealing with finicky boards of directors, shifting strategies, and industry changes. Jacqueline discussed tips she and her husband have implemented at home to help him succeed as a course superintendent, spouse, and father of two young children. “Tactically, we've had to organize ourselves a lot better,” she said. Enjoy this episode of Leadership on the Links with Jacqueline Severidt! Quotes “My favorite thing is that I'm helping people to achieve their dream jobs.” “There's never a time I work with a client that I do not ask for more metrics.” “Let people know who you are, because they don't want to work with someone they don't like.” “For families, it's like whiplash. You can hardly get into a routine, and then it's changing.” “If you have cabins on the property, you never know what you're going to find under the sprinkler heads in the morning.” Links mentioned in this episode: Tyler Bloom Consulting: https://tylerbloomconsulting.com/ Severidt Consulting: https://www.severidtconsulting.com/ Connect with Jacqueline on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacqueline-severidt-18653136/ Email Jacqueline at: jacqueline@severidtconsulting.com
Coming to you directly from the 2024 US Women's Open at the Lancaster Country Club in Lancaster Pennsylvania! What a great opportunity, and pleasure, to speak with Josh Saunders, the hosting superintendent, and his former mentor, Pete Wendt, from Congressional Country Club to talk about what it takes to get ready for a major championship tournament. We sat down a couple of hours after Josh was able to see the start of tournament on Thursday morning, which marked the culmination of over two years of hard work. Jack Higgins and Joel Simmons had a chance to hear about what it takes to pull off something of this magnitude. Josh talked about the challenges of managing a team of 120 volunteers and staff to make sure that they were ready for the week. It was clear that Josh was excited to have Pete and other fellow superintendents stop by to support him as he hosts his first major championship. A great conversation among old friends, and a real insight to the behind the scenes of the US Women's Open.Visit EarthWorks at: https://www.earthworksturf.com Podcasts: https://www.earthworksturf.com/earthworks-podcasts/ 2 Minute Turf Talks: https://www.earthworksturf.com/2-minute-turf-talks/
The industry is getting more technologically advanced and many superintendents are learning how to embrace these changes. Matt Sumpter, Golf Course Superintendent at Columbia Country Club outside of Washington DC, knows a little about embracing new technologies. Formerly the Blue Course Superintendent at Congressional Country Club, he led a team through the new construction project. Matt talks about new software programs and GPS technologies that helped them build the course and get it up and running during a busy grow in. Most importantly he talks about not being afraid of these changes but embracing them knowing that with a little effort he and his team could make almost anything work. He also talked about the process he used when interviewing for his current position and the marketing material he put together to show his new club his commitment to the position – and it worked! A fascinating and informative conversation worth the time for any turf manager. Ryan Higgins has had a strong career working at some of the best golf courses in the Mid Atlantic. He recently became the “Head Guy” at TPC Potomac, outside of Washington DC, perhaps the toughest place in the country to grow cool season grasses. Ryan worked with Pete Wendt for several years, most recently as a golf course superintendent at Congressional Country Club where he was able to see their recent reconstruction project. Now he is on his own as the lead manager and we talked about what that is like and how he managed the change. One of the most powerful comments he made in this conversation was, “We are in the solutions business! If something is wrong fix the problem, don't just cover it up". We talked about his interview process and the steps he took once he started the job.Visit EarthWorks at: https://www.earthworksturf.com Podcasts: https://www.earthworksturf.com/earthworks-podcasts/ 2 Minute Turf Talks: https://www.earthworksturf.com/2-minute-turf-talks/

Hello again Fellow Golfists,It was great to be able to watch the final round of the 2023 Masters Tournament on CBS. Jon Rahm won it by 4 strokes and put on a clinic keeping his head together. Rahm was not rattled by anything other than maybe a little bit of slow play. His ability to play Amen Corner EVEN par on Easter Sunday was magnificent.I hope to be able to complete watching the documentary that CBS made for Tom Weiskopf. Mr. Weiskopf passed away in 2022. He had runner up finishes at The Masters 4 times. He won the 1973 Open Championship at Troon. I remember watching him win the United States Senior Open at Congressional Country Club in 1995.
