Mental health counselor and community activist, Elaine Wells, talks about her work as a counselor - helping couples find relationship harmony - and what drew her to that field. Wells also shares her evolution from being raised in a conservative Southern Baptist faith to Unitarian Universalism and how that religion of love and humanism aligns with her values and a calling to community activism.Elaine Wells, as a mental health counselor, especially enjoys helping couples to create and maintain happy, healthy relationships. Wells has long been a community activist - advocating for world peace, inclusive justice, and a sustainable environment, working with groups including Nebraskans for Peace, RESULTS, and Omaha Together One Community (often referenced as OTOC). Wells created a Dialogue process to bring people together for constructive conversations on controversial topics, facilitating Pro-Life/Pro-Choice, Black-White, Conservative-Liberal; and Racism in Omaha dialogues. Having grown up in East Texas as a Southern Baptist, she converted to Unitarian Universalism in 1970, and this religion of love and humanism has been a huge part of her evolution.

How to be both a conservative and a liberalTradition and progress are a dance: we need to balance both roots and growth together. First, we need to confront the two main problems that separate these perspectives dealing with sociological superiority. You can project the complexity of incoherency on another because you stake your identity in your perspective or you can have a proper sense of proportion. Second, we explore the practical considerations of this topic as a whole. This deals with recognizing the value of each and participating in the common journey to continue the human narrative. Use the past and participate in the active unfolding of the future.
In this episode of TishTalk, my guest is Andrew Lawton, a journalist at True North, Podcaster and broadcaster. Andrew and I discuss the Conservative-Liberal divide in Canada and how to bridge the gap with Canadians to move forward in 2022. We discuss the dangers of censorship, mandates and passports for a free, democratic society and what the great reset really means.
This needs no intro but I will give ya one anyway cause Im a loving guy. We know how hard it can be to live in a world where people do not get along, but is there something we can learn from the history of our current political divide. Why have liberals championed what they have, why have conservatives oppossed it and when did we go from cordial disagreement to all out hatred of the other! We discuss that and more so join us, promise you "that one uncle during Thanksgiving " will love it! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-trend-with-justin-a-w/support

Small, uninterrupted segment concerning plan by the spiritually effeminate and their attack in The Most High God's people to create a 'New World', copied with exactness, the 'Old World', wiped out by God by use of a flood. Learning How to See with Brian McLaren, Jacqui Lewis and Richard Rohr
On this episode of Learning How to See, Brian, Jacqui, and Richard talk about the next three biases that look at the social-political dimensions of seeing: Conservative/Liberal bias: Conservatives and Liberals see the world differently. Liberals see through a “nurturing parent” window, and Conservatives see through a “strict father” window. Liberals value moral arguments based on justice and compassion; conservatives also place a high value on arguments based on purity, loyalty, authority, and tradition. Our brains like to see as our party sees, and we flock with those who see as we do. Consciousness bias: A person’s level of consciousness makes seeing some things possible and others impossible. Our brains see from a location. Competency bias: We are incompetent at knowing how incompetent or competent we are, so we may see less or more than we think. Our brains prefer to think of ourselves as above average. Resources: The transcript for this episode. Brian's e-book: Why Don't They Get It? Conservative/Liberal, Fundamentalist/Progressive they seem so different until you start to look more closely and then you realize that they all wrestle with the same ideas about God, belief and faith, they just have slightly different answers. Moving beyond belief, and getting off the conservative/liberal continuum and why we are not progressives is what we are talking about this week. Have you ever found yourself labeling others because they thought differently from you? We need to remember that the only label that we should be placing on ourselves or others is "Christ-like". That we act justly and with love, as Christ did, and when we come across those who struggle that we do not pass them by, but stop and help, showing Christ's love on life's Jericho Road. We’re united, one in God, one in Jesus, one in love. We are all one in our need to be set free from burdens that oppress us, and we are all one in finding salvation, finding freedom from those burdens through Jesus, casting our burdens upon him and turning our wills and our lives over to him. No other issue or belief is greater than that. The freedom that Jesus gives, freedom from whatever binds us? No other belief or issue should cause us to be divided into camps or factions, not when we all get to be ministers of Jesus’ freedom from bondage. We’re a diverse bunch of folks, with all sorts of political beliefs and backgrounds, cultures, and ideologies, and that’s just within Emmanuel. Worldwide, we’re an extremely varied group of people, but we’re not baptized into any of those political beliefs, backgrounds, cultures, or ideologies. We’re baptized into Jesus, into the freedom from bondage that he gives, and we are all ministers of that freedom, all ministers of Jesus.

Episode 42: The U.S Supreme CourtIn our first episode related directly to politics and government, you’ll find an easily-digestible introduction to the U.S. Supreme Court. Using “plain-talk” English, Scott gives you a Happy July 4th greeting, and introduces Virginian Thomas Jefferson as author of the Declaration of Independence, the phrase “separation of Church and State,” and founder of the University of Virginia (UVA). However, most of the episode examines the U.S. Supreme Court: why we have it, who founded it, a brief overview of its history, and how it’s had a roughly 4-4 Conservative/Liberal split, with one “swing” justice, for several decades now. Just as the U.S. has been politically divided for decades, the U.S. Supreme Court has been equally divided, with MANY 5-4 decisions over the past years. You will learn who these nine powerful judges are and which presidents appointed them. We wrap up with a “plain-talk” explanation of some key court decisions from June 2018, and discuss how Justice Anthony Kennedy’s bombshell June 27, 2018 announcement to retire this summer has set off a firestorm of controversy, and how its effects could be felt for decades, even generations. To show you how relevant and important this issue is, this headline was published on the day we recorded this Episode. “Trump says Court pick to come July 9.”Be an informed citizen! Give it a listen! Word of the Day: supreme (adj.) highest, bestQuestion of the Day: Whom do you think President Trump might name to replace retiring Justice Kennedy?
