Ken W. Good has worked closely with lawmakers and other individuals on bail matters. He offers his perspective on the impact that criminal justice and bail reform have had on public safety. Bail reform remains a contentious subject, with significant implications for public safety and justice system equity. On the one hand, a study from California's Yolo County District Attorney's office reports alarming re-offense rates among defendants released on zero-bail, suggesting a direct link between bail reform and increased crime. According to this study, 70% of defendants released without bail reoffended, with a significant proportion committing violent crimes. Conversely, a study published May 22 by researchers at Drexel University, focusing on New Jersey's bail reform, finds no evidence that eliminating cash bail increases violence. New Jersey, one of the first states to significantly reform its bail system, has seen a reduction in pretrial detention without a corresponding rise in gun violence or other crimes. As bail reform continues to gain traction nationwide, understanding its true impact is crucial for policymakers, law enforcement, and the public. Misconceptions about bail reform could lead to misguided policies that either compromise public safety or perpetuate unnecessary incarceration. #Trend With Us! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-trend-with-justin-a-w/support

As robotaxis (also called autonomous vehicles or AVs) are set to be deployed on the streets of New York, it may seem impossible for New York City's infamous yellow taxis to be replaced. But the future of ride sharing and mobility for New Yorkers is pulling up to the curb. While AVs are already deployed and available for ridesharing through Uber on the West Coast and Texas, the eventual and imminent deployment on New York City's busy streets may seem like a step too far, however studies have shown the clear benefit of this technology: it saves the lives of passengers and pedestrians from distracted (texting for example), drunk, and reckless driving. A recent report, which Chamber of Progress commissioned, showed that in Los Angeles alone, AVs could save over 1,000 lives. When deployed on busy and crowded New York streets, just imagine how this number could grow exponentially.
