Does Professor Quirrell's attack on Harry during the Quidditch match do Quirrell more harm (for him) than good? Security Nightmare: Why are there not more protections in place during Quidditch matches? Main Discussion #2: Sorcerer's Stone, Chapter 12: The Mirror of Erised 7-Word Summary: Dumbledore gives Harry some advice about life The hosts rank Harry's Christmas gifts from best to worst, using math How does this new information on The Mirror of Erised influence our thoughts on the magical device? On this week's episode, we are joined by Potter film actor and director Rohan Gotobed! He joins Andrew, Eric, Laura, and Micah as they continue their Chapter-by-Chapter readthrough of Sorcerer's Stone, covering Chapters 7 and 8! Harry is sorted into Gryffindor House, and learns that Snape really hates him! Welcome to the show, film and theater actor Rohan Gotobed, who you might recognize from playing Young Sirius Black in DH2! Main Discussion #1: Sorcerer's Stone, Chapter 7: The Sorting Hat 7-Word Summary: Students arrive into the Great Hall nervously Is the Sorting Ceremony too much pressure for First Years? Should there be something easier or a private ceremony? Why is the hat kept a secret from all students and possibly not even mentioned in Hogwarts, a History? We know Hermione checked... Americans struggle with British terms example 4,723, as McGonagall tells the students to 'smarten themselves up.' New Segment Alert: The hosts play "MAX That!" bringing an element from the chapter to life as a new Harry Potter streaming series Harry has a dream that the hosts find to be VERY illuminating. Was it right for Seamus' mom to keep her magical secret from his dad? Rohan pays tribute to all of Harry's peers who made it to the Sorting Ceremony but were never seen again... Main Discussion #2: Sorcerer's Stone, Chapter 8: The Potions Master 7-Word Summary: Eagerly Harry begins classes with angry teacher  What were our first impressions of McGonagall, Sprout, Flitwick and Snape? New Segment: Mini Origin, where we dive into the name Quirinus and Quirrell in an effort to understand him better. Snape speaks of potions very romantically, but is he overcompensating for the lost romance of Harry's mom? The ability to spot exactly where a potion went wrong is impressive, but Snape should not be teaching students. Harry seeks refuge at Hagrid's hut, and the hosts describe their in-school hideout locations. The hosts reveal their coveted 'Most Valuable Character/Chapter of the Week' award nominees. Next Week: it's our first Muggle Mailbag episode since starting our Chapter-By-Chapter! Quizzitch: According to Book 1, if you're in the Great Hall facing the staff table, from LEFT to RIGHT what is the order in which the houses are seated? Hear it Here - adbl.co/3RQsieZ How to truly live a MIND OVER MATTER life. Most people can't accomplish what they want. They let themselves underachieve, and don't have the energy to do better. But you are different. You will learn how the true meaning of mind over matter. Learn to fulfill every intention you have - because nothing can stop you. The Self-Discipline Manual is about training you (yes, training) achieve everything that you want, and nothing less. It's about understanding what causes motivation and self-discipline, and how to attack your daily tasks, habits, or goals with the fire of a thousand suns. We attack this issue of you versus yourself from every possible angle, and you will be well-armed to face your lazy and procrastinating ways. Extremely thorough, researched, and most importantly, actionable. Peter Hollins has studied psychology and peak human performance for over a dozen years and is a bestselling author. He has worked with a multitude of individuals to unlock their potential and path towards success. His writing draws on his academic, coaching, and research experience. How to make self-discipline automatic, second nature, and habitual. The biology of self-control and how to hack your body's limitations Understanding all the roadblocks to motivation and self-control - almost all are psychological Why you must start managing your TIME, not your energy The role your neurotransmitters play in self-discipline Clarifying your areas of control and interest for maximum adherence How to make discomfort your best friend How to "surf the urge" and "zazen" Emotional kung fu and how to use your emotions to your advantage Tools to get started, keep going, overcome distractions, and follow through every single time. Self-discipline is the ability to do what you don't want to do. It allows you to push through, conquer, and achieve. Without this gritty trait, nothing is possible in life. Keep that in mind. https://www.audible.com/pd/B0BD9D3GR5/?source_code=AUDFPWS0223189MWU-BK-ACX0-322856&ref=acx_bty_BK_ACX0_322856_pd_us #Hollins #MINDOVERMATTER #PeakHumanPerformance #PeterHollins #PrefrontalCortex #Selfawareness #Selfcontrol #Selfdiscipline #SelfDisciplineManual #RussellNewton #NewtonMG Hollins,MIND OVER MATTER,Peak Human Performance,Peter Hollins,Prefrontal Cortex,Selfawareness,Selfcontrol,Selfdiscipline,SelfDiscipline Manual,Russell Newton,NewtonMG

Join Andrew, Eric, Laura and Micah as they begin Sorcerer's / Philosopher's Stone with Chapters 1, 2 and 3! Our read-through of the Potter series contains segments both old AND new (complete with sound effects) and the hosts are all much older now than when they first started more than 16 years ago! On this week's episode: Chapter by Chapter is rebooted! We first started the segment March 19, 2006 on Episode 31 (transcript here). What to expect from CbyC includes: 7 Word Summaries, the same (but older) hosts, and brand new segments and games. Main Discussion Part 1: Sorcerer's Stone Chapter One, "The Boy Who Lived." 7 Word Summary: Vernon thinks that people are behaving oddly Eric asks, "What are the wizards and witches thinking?! The Statute of Secrecy is at stake here!" Laura makes an excellent point about what humans do after being cooped up and being afraid for long. Was it safe for Dumbledore to leave Harry unattended on a doorstep overnight? Despite the magical protection, we ask, WERE the Dursleys the best option for Dumbledore to choose? Why didn't Albus raise Harry himself? Main Discussion Part 2: Chapter Two, "The Vanishing Glass." 7 Word Summary: Dudley can't understand why he sucks badly Having read the whole series, how do we account for the magic that Harry did when he was young? Where exactly did the "Vanished" glass go? In the book, it is not put back. Would the zoo be able to stay in business after such an incident? The hosts get depressed about the Dursleys' abuse of Harry, which hits differently now! Main Discussion Part 3: Chapter Three, "The Letters From No One." 7 Word Summary: Chaos awaits the Dursleys everywhere and above How is it exactly that the letters change addresses for Harry? Is Vernon right, and are the Dursleys being watched? Why don't Petunia and Vernon just tell Harry who/what he is? Why are they SO resistant? The hosts play What If? regarding Harry opening his Hogwarts letter while in the foyer. Most Valuable Chapter/Character of the Week returns Next week's Quizzitch question: Who are the four known members of Dudley's Gang, from Chapter 3 of Book 1? Hear it Here - adbl.co/3wf46tU Self-awareness, healing yourself, and understanding your traumas. You don't need a therapist. At least, not to start the process. Knowing yourself is one of the most difficult things in the world, and don't let access or funds stop your journey to yourself. Learn about why you do the things you do, and why you think the way you think. It's not always so simple. The Art of Self-Therapy is a book that introduces you to yourself. We all have unique beliefs and thought patterns that influence our behavior. Are you happy with all of the outcomes your thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors create for you? Or do you frequently feel unstable, confused, lost, or out of control? Therapy is a tough task for most. It can be expensive, scary, or socially unacceptable. But this is a process you can start for yourself. Time to start the rest of your life. Think exactly what you want to think, and do only what you want to do. This is the wonderful outcome of knowing yourself. Nick Trenton grew up in rural Illinois and is quite literally a farm boy. His best friend growing up was his trusty companion Leonard the dachshund. RIP Leonard. Eventually, he made it off the farm and obtained a BS in Economics, followed by an MA in Behavioral Psychology. Become the most predictable person in the world - this means stability, calm, and acceptance. Your shadow side and how it shows you exactly what your traumas are about Understanding your inner child and how they are trapped inside of you Knowing the attachment style that dictates your adult relationships How to re-program your thoughts to have healthier coping mechanisms Analyzing your thoughts and rewiring your beliefs How to build your life one small step at a time with behavioral experiments https://www.audible.com/pd/B0B94MYNF5/?source_code=AUDFPWS0223189MWU-BK-ACX0-319881&ref=acx_bty_BK_ACX0_319881_pd_us #AttachmentStyle #BehavioralPsychology #CognitiveBehavioralTechniques #EmotionalMaturity #NickTrenton #Selfawareness #Selftherapy #UnderstandYourEmotions #TheArtofSelf-Therapy #RussellNewton #NewtonMG

Inspired by a popular Reddit thread, this week's episode asks the question: what was something that a 'good' character from the Harry Potter series did which rubbed us the wrong way? Are characters like Molly Weasley or Remus Lupin above reproach? You may find yourself nodding along with Andrew, Eric, Micah and special guest Chloé as they detail just what these supposed 'heroes' of the series did to get on our nerves! As we announced last week, Chapter By Chapter will be returning soon with Book One! Now that we are all grown-up. Look for it in September! Our hosts have recently appeared on each other's other podcasts, including Eric appearing on #Millennial, and Micah appearing on Thank You for Spieling! This week's main discussion was inspired by this great Reddit thread. Shout-out to Pamela G.'s brother for suggesting! Each host picks a supposedly 'good' Harry Potter character and lists their most heinous offenses. Molly Wealsey may be the motherly type, but her love is not evenly spread. What did Hermione or Fleur ever do to receive her ire? Albus Dumbledore may be the series' biggest 'good guy' after Harry, but his reckless endangerment of students via his choices for DADA staffers are preposterous. Remus Lupin was our very favorite teacher, but when it comes to being a dad or a romantic partner, his skills are somewhat lacking. Hermione's activism might win her some points, but she's much colder to anything that is somebody else's idea. Especially if she hasn't read about it in a book! Consulting the Reddit thread, the MuggleCast hosts pick a few more of their favorite examples. Why did EVERY adult let Ron use his broken and unsafe wand? Did Dobby go too far when stopping Harry's mail? Did the Weasley Twins go too far trying their products on students? August's Bonus MuggleCast will cover personal secrets from the hosts' early days podcasting and working on the Web. The latest Trelawney Tea Edition will be available exclusively via our Patreon. They, who are effectually called, and regenerated, having a new heart, and a new spirit created in them, are further sanctified, really and personally, through the virtue of Christ's death and resurrection,1by His Word and Spirit dwelling in them:2 the dominion of the whole body of sin is destroyed,3 and the several lusts thereof are more and more weakened and mortified;4 and they more and more quickened and strengthened in all saving graces,5 to the practice of true holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.6 1 1 Cor. 6:11; Acts 20:32; Phil. 3:10; Rom. 6:5–6    2 John 17:17; 2 Thess. 2:13    3 Rom. 6:6,14    4 Gal. 5:24; Rom. 8:13    5 Col. 1:11; Eph. 3:16–19   6 2 Cor. 7:1; Heb. 12:14 II. This sanctification is throughout, in the whole man;7 yet imperfect in this life, there abiding still some remnants of corruption in every part;8 whence ariseth a continual and irreconcilable war, the flesh lusting against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh.9 7 1 Thess. 5:23    8 1 John 1:10; Rom. 7:18,23; Phil. 3:12    9 Gal. 5:17; 1 Pet. 2:11 III. A Companion to The Story of the Stone: A Chapter-by-Chapter Guide (Columbia UP, 2021), co-authored by Susan Chan Egan and Pai Hsien-yung (Columbia University Press, 2021), is a straightforward guide to the Chinese literary classic, The Story of the Stone (also known as Dream of the Red Chamber), that was written at a time when readers had plenty of leisure to sort through the hundreds of characters and half a dozen subplots that weave in and out of the book's 120 chapters. The Story of the Stone is widely held to be the greatest work of Chinese literature, beloved by readers ever since it was first published in 1791. The story revolves around the young scion of a mighty clan who, instead of studying for the civil service examinations, frolics with his maidservants and girl cousins. The narrative is cast within a mythic framework in which the protagonist's rebellion against Confucian strictures is guided by a Buddhist monk and a Taoist priest. Embedded in the novel is a biting critique of imperial China's political and social system. Each chapter of A Companion to The Story of the Stone: A Chapter-by-Chapter Guide summarizes and comments on each chapter of the novel. The companion provides English-speaking readers—whether they are simply dipping into this novel or intent on a deep analysis of this masterpiece—with the cultural context to enjoy the story and understand its world. The book is keyed to David Hawkes and John Minford's English translation of The Story of the Stone and includes an index that gives the original Chinese names and terms. Susan Chan Egan is an independent scholar. She is the author of A Latterday Confucian: Reminiscences of William Hung (1893–1980) (1987), coauthor of A Pragmatist and His Free Spirit: The Half-Century Romance of Hu Shi and Edith Clifford Williams (2009), and cotranslator of Wang Anyi's The Song of Everlasting Sorrow: A Novel of Shanghai (Columbia, 2008), among other books. Pai Hsien-yung (Bai Xianyong) is an acclaimed fiction writer and a professor emeritus of East Asian languages and cultural studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His books include Taipei People (1971) and Crystal Boys (1983). He has taught The Story of the Stone for decades and is the author of a popular three-volume guide in Chinese on which this book is based. Linshan Jiang is Ph.D. candidate in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultural Studies, University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research interests are modern and contemporary literature, film, and popular culture in mainland China, Taiwan and Japan; trauma and memory studies; gender and sexuality studies; queer studies; as well as comparative literature and translation studies. A class working through the Westminster Confession of Faith—one chapter a week. March 20, 2022. Pastor Andrew Dionne. I. Although the light of nature, and the works of creation and providence do so far manifest the goodness, wisdom, and power of God, as to leave men unexcusable;1 yet they are not sufficient to give that knowledge of God, and of his will, which is necessary unto salvation.2 Therefore it pleased the Lord, at sundry times, and in divers manners, to reveal Himself, and to declare that His will unto His Church;3 and afterwards, for the better preserving and propagating of the truth, and for the more sure establishment and comfort of the Church against the corruption of the flesh, and the malice of Satan and of the world, to commit the same wholly unto writing:4 which maketh the Holy Scripture to be most necessary;5 those former ways of God's revealing His will unto His people being now ceased.6 1 Rom. 2:14–15,19–20; Ps. 19:1–3; Rom. 1:32, 2:1    2 1 Cor. 1:21, 2:13–14    3 Heb. 1:1    4 Prov. 22:19–21; Luke 1:3–4; Rom. 15:4; Matt. 4:4,7,10; Isa. 8:19–20    5 2 Tim. 3:15; 2 Pet. 1:19    6 Heb. 1:1–2
