Blurry Photober is late this year, but David is back with an episode all about Highgate Cemetery! An incredible feat of gothic greatness, Highgate Cemetery has an interesting history and hauntings to boot. David had the fortune to take a tour of the Grade I historic location, and also interviewed the tour guide, John Waite. John and David go over the history of the cemetery, including its inception, how it fell to disrepair, and how it was revived. David then gets into the history of the hauntings which are said to happen. Mysterious top-hatted figures, forlorn spectres, and rumors of vampires have plagued the boneyard for decades. David discusses these stories as well as the infamous occultist feud between David Farrant and Sean Manchester. Take a history-heavy tour of a hauntingly beautiful location in this episode of Blurry Photos!Follow me on Twitch!MusicDanse Macabre, Lightless Dawn, Ossuary 5 - Rest, Phantasm, Zombie Hoodoo – Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0SourcesJarvis, Jacob. When Muswell Hill resident David Farrant wrote to the letters section of the Hampstead and Highgate Express in February 1970, he had hoped to find others who'd witnessed any unusual or potentially supernatural happenings in London's Highgate Cemetery. Instead, Farrant kicked off a moral panic over vampires, ghosts, and all manner of occult activities that featured prominently in the pages of British newspapers for years. Farrant's letter received a few responses from others who claimed to have had their own supernatural experiences in Highgate Cemetery, but the story would likely have ended there had it not been for Sean Manchester. A self-proclaimed occultist and vampire hunter, Manchester claimed that what Farrant had seen at Highgate was in fact a vampire, and moreover, the cemetery itself was the site of ongoing black masses, vampire gatherings, and other dark practices. Soon, a rivalry developed between Farrant and Manchester over who had the power to eradicate the supernatural threat at Highgate and just weeks after Farrant sent his letter to the newspapers, Manchester led a large mob of Londoners into Highgate Cemetery intent on driving out the evil that supposedly swelled there.Throughout the early 1970s, the war of words between Farrant and Manchester frequently captured the public's attention, thanks to the various news outlets that couldn't resist the outrageous actions of the two men that ranged from benign and silly (a naked fire dance in an abandoned building) to gruesome and disrespectful (desecration of human remains). However, while the antics of the two men at the center of the story may elicit a smirk or an eyeroll, the public's response to the supposed supernatural threat provides valuable insight into a phenomenon of moral panic that go on to fuel, among other things, the satanic panic that dominated the news throughout the 1980s and 90s. This week we're going across the pond to bring you the story of the high gate vampire.
In 1967, two girls claimed to see the dead rising from their graves in Highgate Cemetery, and the people of London began to change.By 1970, a full-blown obsession with the local vampire rumors broke out, egged on by the publications of two enemy magicians who each swore to know more about the vampire threat plaguing the area. When their plan to hunt down the vampire once and for all was aired on tv on Friday the 13th, a mob broke out, with people rushing to the cemetery to stop the vampire menace themselves. The police were overrun, and the bodies of several people were desecrated–but that was only the beginning of the story for magicians Sean Manchester and David Farrant.
Bob and Rick explore the story of the Highgate Vampire and the rivalry between David Farrant and Sean Manchester, and tell some tales of other vampire sightings from the UK. ---Contact us at - wtatupod@gmail.com and visit the website at - weirdtalesandtheunexplainable.comBuy bonus episodes at https://bobshoy.bandcamp.com/Support editing time at https://www.patreon.com/bobshoy-Part of The Bob Shoy Podcast Network-Visit http://www.bobshoy.com to discover other podcasts you may enjoy.

This week just have a casual chat about the Occult, magic, Ouija Boards, Tarot and just what Sean Manchester and David Farrant were going on about.

Happy New Year, guys! And also we should say Merry Christmas because you may have noticed (some of you with delight) that we didn't release our Christmas episode last week for reasons we explain herewithin. Our chaotic energy, you gotta love it!So we're burning the corpse of 2020 and high-stepping into 2021 with the tale of the Highgate Vampire, a seemingly easily startled prince of darkness who frequented Highgate Cemetery in the late 1960s/early 70s. Disclaimer: Was it even a vampire? It doesn't sound like it, but that doesn't matter! All of London bought into a shared delusion that there was one and let themselves get whipped up into a corpse-desecrating frenzy cemetery vandalism. You should never let the truth get in the way of a good story in his hunt for vampires and/or fame. We also meet the Hag of Swains Lane, a much less mythological but equally iconic creature who spent her days on the adjoining street of the cemetery. Was she the one who's been pushing people over? And possibly most importantly of all, we meet David Farrant and Sean Manchester, rival Vampire-hunters who publicly feuded in the press right up until David's passing following a rumoured MAGICIAN'S DUEL, and to be honest we're left to assume that the feud continues with Manchester hunting David's vampiric spectre. So strap yourselves in guys, cos its a long one but its SO GOOD we just couldn't cut it down. Not even the five minutes where Conor & Dannii literally just laugh into their microphones for five (yes, five) whole minutes. This occurs around the 01:24:00 mark if you want to skip - but we don't recommend that.
Releasing some of the original YouTube only episodes of The Paranormal Nothing now as audio only (apologies if the audio is not up to par, as this was early on in the show). This is episode 4, a look at the alleged sightings of the Highgate Vampire. The case took place in Highgate Cemetery in London in the 1970s, the epitome of the ghostly, Victorian cemetery. A being resembling a vampire was seen by passerby David Farrant, who together with Sean Manchester, would become the key players in trying to prove that a vampire inhabited the cemetery, and then would actually try to prove that they had killed it! Listen to this episode to hear TPN's assessment of the case Please visit TPN's YouTube channel to see the original video: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmWV3tgCQcDMvoGPbkF60iw
Imagine being referred to as a Vampire Hunter. Would you feel cool or like a crazy person? Like imagine handing out business cards with “Vampire Hunter” on it or having it on your resume. “Yeah, I tried to get into the Vampire Hunting business for a while but ended up having some competition that challenged me to a wizard duel.” This week on the podcast, Theo and Will talk about how teens are always killed in slasher movies and why we are all ok with it, Theo complains about how many bibliographies he had to write in school, Will reads some stories about “Halloween Hunks” by Mason Harnes, a sensual book series featuring fear boners, murder dating apps, and banging your bros when you get stuck in a room together. Also this episode, “The Worst Amusement Parks” comes back with “Dickens’ World” based on the dreary Victorian stories of Charles Dickens, and Will takes us on the tale of the Highgate Vampire Hunters named David Farrant and Sean Manchester and how their epic feud led to mobs breaking into the Highgate Cemetery, corpses being dug up, and a Magician duel being proposed.
UNEXPLAINED MYSTERIES with bestselling author and researcher Steph Young
It all seemed to begin when local man David Farrant wrote a letter to the Hampstead and Highgate Express on February the 6th 1970, in which he explained that he had been passing the cemetery on Christmas Eve 1969 when he had glimpsed a fleeting figure. He said, “I had an awareness of some kind of presence. I decided to wait a minute to try to find some material thing, such as a tree moving in the wind that could have accounted for it. Staring into the blackness there was a distinct impression of something moving. What appeared one minute to be a solid black shape would suddenly alter its form. Suddenly something caught my eye and clearly visible was a tall dark shape. I wanted to assume it was someone wandering through the cemetery, despite that the figure appeared to be over seven feet tall, but this was soon dispelled when I saw two red eyes meeting mine. Those eyes were not human…’ The Tale of the Highgate Vampire…

1970 -- Highgate, England. A shadowy being, dressed in black and wearing a hat, is reported as terrifying a number of people. One man claims to have been mesmerised (in a hypnotic sense) by the beings gaze. Amidst evidence of Satanists using the cemetery, numerous sightings are reported. After the seperate investigative efforts of David Farrant and Sean Manchester, the fiend is dubbed 'the Highgate Vampire' by the media. On Friday 13th, a vampire hunt ensues -- with hundreds in attendance after ITV news publicised the event. Ansir & Sophia discuss this eccentric period in contemporary English history, the validity for the assertion that the being was a vampire, the magical duelling of Farrant and Manchester, and attempt to identify if the shadowy being is still out there...Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/InquirersintotheStrange)
