This week on It Was a Thing on TV First, in the 70s, Sherwood Schwartz had an idea to introduce a couple with a multiethnic group of kids. The ahead-of-its-time idea was revisited in the mid 80s, but would anybody watch it? And what happens when nobody watches it? On this episode, we break down the strange case of “Together We Stand”…. Or “Nothing is Easy”. Then, in honor of Susan St. James' 77th birthday back in August, Greg and Chico looked at this 2004 straight-to-DVD movie about a down on his luck clutz who teams up with a sea captain to find a sunken treasure. Also, Lou Rawls and Richard Moll are trying to stop them for some reason. We're also pretty sure that The Dove Foundation which "approved" this movie didn't actually watch this. Larry and Andie offer strong rewrite suggestions for this Disney live-action movie. Highlights include: a better mahnishtahnah, a discussion about the Dove Foundation and G rated fare, and The Glad Game!
If I asked you what your favorite childhood movie was, I bet you'd remember at least 2 or 3 films, right? What about a film you saw that forever impacted the way you viewed life? TODAY I have the honor and privilege of talking with someone who is making these types of films and series. I believe it will not only be fun to tune in and along, Nathan's journey of his calling, but will inspire you within your OWN story to ask a few questions and perhaps see what God might be calling you to in this season or next. Nathan Blair has loved movies his whole life. As a child of the 80's, he always fantasized ab0ut making movies but thought it too impossible. God disagreed. With 7 feature films and a soon to be mini-series (which we'll talk about today) A Perfect Chord, 2nd Greatest, A High School Story, SCION, Sleeper Agent, Stealing the Show, Once Upon a Christmas, Fragment: Oblivion) Nathan has cultivated his calling to create high level crossover films with a Christ centered message. It has been said that Nathan and his cutting-edge production company, Kingdom Sight Studios are a “force to reckon with” in the faith-based industry. These films have traveled on both the Duck Commander and K-LOVE Radio cruises; they've been highlighted with the Dove Foundation, Best Buy, Walmart, iTunes, Pureflix and more. In February of 2020, Nathan became the Executive Director of Cross Wind Productions; a 501(c)3 ministry where the next generation of Christian filmmakers are inspired, encouraged and trained, all with a Christian worldview. Nathan has said “While Christian filmmakers are producing new content that speaks to adults, Hollywood works tirelessly to capture the hearts and minds of our children.” Cross Wind is a place where teens can make a movie for teens. A place where they can speak a language they want to hear. In Nathan's opinion, “movies represent the most powerful medium for communicating a message. Jesus spoke in parables to convey points because He knew the power of story. And when you combine story with stunning visuals and soaring music, you have a method to reach people on a deeper level. Filmmakers have been utilizing the power of film for decades, I just want to share a story of hope and joy, whether that's a horror movie or a western. Movies move people, I want my movies to move people towards Jesus.” And that's just what we're going to talk about, so I hope you're excited and ready for this talk with Nathan so why dont you pull up that chair, grab a cup of coffee and dive in with us to the places between More about Kingdom Sight Studios: www.kingdomsightstudios.com/ Find Nathan and connect with him on LinkedIn here, Facebook here And Instagram here. The Dove Foundation approved and uplifting family film, Dolphin Island is available now on DVD and VOD. Directed by Mike Disa (Space Dogs, Hoodwinked Too!). Produced by Shaked Berenson (Turbo Kid, JeruZalem, A Tiger's Tale), and written by Disa, Berenson, and Rolfe Kanefsky (Puppy Swap: Love Unleashed), Dolphin Island follows orphaned Anabelle (Tyler Jade Nixon) who moves in with her paternal grandfather, Robert (Bob Bledsoe) along with a large, loving extended family and friends, including a dolphin named Mitzy. When Anabelle's affluent and extremely materialistic, New York maternal grandparents head down to the Caribbean with their sleezy lawyer to return their tax write-off granddaughter to the Northeast. Luckily for Anabelle, she's has a whole host of family, friends and including her social worker, which is a huge bonus. I caught up with Mike and Shaked, who were candid about speaking about the filmmaking process, what it is like to work with major studios versus smaller budget films and how important it is that family films before the whole family instead of just for little kids that parents tune out or have too many adult jokes that parents instantly want to turn it off. Having the Dove Foundation be a supporter of the Dolphin Island adds to the desire to make wholesome, family entertainment that the entire family can enjoy whether faith based or secular viewing. Dolphin Island can be purchased on their official website dolphinislandmovie.com/dvd/ For more information about the Dove Foundation and how they rank Dolphin Island visit dove.org.
