Chris Breen has been the Superintendent at Rosapenna Golf Resort since 2019. A recent trip to Downings enabled us to sit down for a chat that we've been meaning to have for the past 12 months or so. We take a look at how he's ended up back home in Donegal overseeing the 63 hole, 1200 acre property. The importance of getting "your homework right" from a course setup perspective. How an easterly wind is less than optimal for growing grass early in the season. Why he's not praying for rain.... just yet. Grass paths and golfer expectations. The many changes that have occurred at the resort over the past 6 years and much more. Many thanks to Chris for his time, we hope you enjoy the listen. Professor of English, Dr. Jim Beitler will serve as the Wade Center's new director starting in July. It's been 3 years since the National Drama Festival took place with a live audience in the theater, when the National Drama Association held the Festival in Gaoth Dobhair. Tá sé 3 bliana ó bhí an Fhéile Náisiúnta Drámaíochta ar siúl agus lucht féachana beo san amharclann, tráth ar reachtáil An Comhlachas Náisiúnta Drámaíochta an Fhéile i nGaoth Dobhair. Since then Covid's 19 has had to produce plays online but this year the National Drama Festival is back at Seanscoil Sailearna by the Sea in Connemara with companies from all over the country producing 4 plays. Ó shin mar gheall ar Covid a 19 b'éigean drámaí a léiriú airlíne ach i mbliana tá an Fhéile Náisiúnta Drámaíochta ar ais i Seanscoil Sailearna i gCois Fharraige i gConamara agus compántais ó cheann ceann na tíre ag léiriú 4 dhráma. Seán Ó Morónaigh, Director of the National Drama Association, says that this year's festival is on a smaller scale due to the disease but that the plays being staged are of a high standard, meeting the Association's goal, which was founded in 1976. . Deir Stiurthóir an Chomhlachas Náisiúnta Drámaíochta Seán Ó Morónaigh go bhfuil féile na bliana seo ar scála níos lú de bharr na haicíde ach go bhfuil ard-chaighdeán sna drámaí atá á gcur ar stáitse, ag comhlíonadh sprioc an Chomhlachais a deir sé, a bunaíodh i 1976. Prionsias Ó Cuillinn has written 15 new plays which are about Aisteoirí Mhíobhaigh from Downings in Donegal and one of them will be on stage tonight, "Peacadh Cholm Cille". Tomorrow 's events will include Éigse na Féile featuring storytelling and paired interviews, followed by a big screen screening in the Old School, a video taken in 1992 of the play "An Mhéar Fhada" written by Johnny Cóil Mhaidhc Ó Pedestrians. I measc na n-imeachtaí amárach beidh Éigse na Féile ar bun ag a mbeidh scéalaíocht agus agallaimh beirte, agus ina dhiaidh taispeánfar ar an scáileán mór sa tSeanscoil, físeán a tógadh i 1992 den dráma "An Mhéar Fhada" a scríobh Johnny Chóil Mhaidhc Ó Coisdealbha. The Festival kicks off at 8pm tonight with the play "Cogar sa Pháirc" by Aisteoirí an Lóchrainn from Carlow. Tá an rialtas ó dheas tar éis plean na hathoscailte a athrú de dheasca chomhairle NPHET, agus tá na hathruithe ag cothú deacrachtaí do lucht na mbialanna agus tithe tábhairne. Ina measc siúd atá thíos leis ná Fiona Pasoma sna Dúnaibh, agus labhraíonn sí le Máire Bhreathnach faoi na dúshláin úra atá os a comhair anois. Cad é a dhéanfá dá rachadh do theach as amharc? Bhuel, sin é go díreach an rud a tharla do Neville Presho agus cluinfear a scéal ar BBC Radio 4 i gclár dar teideal, The House That Vanished. Tá cuid d'ábhar an chláir úr seo bunaithe ar thaighde an iriseora Anton Mac Cába agus labhraíonn seisean le Dáithí faoin scéal ar fad. On the advice of NPHET, the Dublin government has changed its tack on reopening, and the changes are creating difficulties for restaurants and pubs. Fiona Pasoma in Downings tells Máire Bhreathnach about the new challenges her business is facing. What would you do if your house disappeared? It happened to Neville Presho and we'll hear the whole story in a new BBC Radio 4 programme, The House That Vanished. Part of the programme relies on the research of Omagh journalist Anton Mac Cába and he talks to Dáithí about the this remarkable story.
Patrick Caulfield came into the Na Rossa senior side in the early 90s. Despite the disappointment of losing the 93 Intermediate final to Downings, silverware followed in 94 and 97 when division 2 was won. Patrick was made captain of the Na Rossa squad in 1999 and that year division 2 was won again alongside the intermediate title; the second in the clubs history. He was an important player in great Na Rossa teams and could kick scores too, most notably, scoring a goal in the 99 intermediate final v Malin. Along with hearing Patrick's reflections, he also names his 1 to 15 of the best opposition he faced in Donegal GAA.This episode and the forthcoming episodes of this Na Rossa podcast is aimed at promoting our clubs current fundraiser and the hope is to get enough funds on board to build new dressing rooms at the clubs new pitch in Madavagh, Lettermacaward.
