Today ARIA winning singer-songwriter Fanny Lumsden joins me to delve into a seminal record of both our youths - The Chicks' final country album, 2002's ‘Home'. We talk about the album's forgotten origins in the midst of a legal battle with the band's record label, how they fused their bluegrass background with contemporary country and pop songwriting, how they used songs written by Patty Griffin, Darrel Scott and more to communicate their point of view, how Fleetwood Mac's ‘Landslide' was given a new lease on life by its inclusion on this album, “show off songs” and how the album influenced Fanny's development as a young woman.

It is a privilege to welcome singer-songwriter Lisa De Angelis to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Based in Brisbane, Australia, Lisa is a firecracker, quickly cementing herself as one of country music's most unique, exciting voices today. A Southern Gothic base, hints of Justin Townes Earle, Shakey Graves, and Townes Van Zandt, Sierra Ferrell lashings, and Ennio Morricone dusting make up her signature sound: sweeping, cinematic Americana/Blues-Roots music. Lisa's art and path would always be unconventional – and she only picked up a guitar for the first time in 2017.Since graduating from the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) 's prestigious Academy of Country Music and playing her first Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2019, Lisa De Angelis has toured with and opened shows for some of Australia's best performers, including Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon), Steve Kilbey (The Church), Amber Lawrence, Hayley Jensen, Catherine Britt, and Melody Moko. A mentee of Australian country music heavyweights Fanny Lumsden and the Flood's Kevin Bennett, Lisa's debut and sophomore songs have garnered airplay on ABC Country, CMT, and KIX Country Radio. Last month, she released her third single: "My Sister's Blue Suitcase," which Lisa recorded and co-produced with her partner Paul Bain at their Brisbane private studio. The release comes on the heels of a forced six-month hiatus for Lisa after a lengthy illness in 2022 took the hearing in her left ear. The devasting loss barely slowed her roll, though; Lisa was back touring with Amber Lawrence, playing Brisbane's Ekka, and being accepted into AIR's Women in Music Mentorship Program in the second half of 2022. Scrappy, vulnerable, and heartfelt, "part Judy Garland, part Saturday Night Live comedian," Lisa is currently recording and co-producing her debut album, due for release in 2024. In this edition of The Jake's Take's with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Lisa De Angelis spoke about the stories behind her songs: "Tumblin' Back," "Hunger Pains," and "My Sister's Blue Suitcase." She also talked about breaking into both the Australian and international music markets.

This chick, ARIA award winning Australian country music singer and song writer Fanny Lumsden is a such a legend. The energy that she gives off even via a computer screen is pretty special. Fanny is a born to be entertainer, who somehow maintains the authenticity of a girl who’s grown up on a farm, she sees the true beauty of small communities (insert her Country Halls Tour) in Australia and yet has 8 golden guitars awards sitting on her mantle piece. And is still surprised at the ongoing success or her career.Part of her story is what happened in 2020. One thing was bushfire - her home was in the middle of the Dunns Road fire. It became a mega-fire, 6-hundred thousand hectares in size. A proper Armageddon. Then on the day her 3rd Album was to be released – COVID lockdown hit. It was bad. We talk about this but not before we wind it back to a topic that’s is pure delight; her childhoods and the days of singing in the sheep shed and doing circus moves on the back of her horses!Thank you to our series sponsor Blundstone Australia. If you'd like to meet more women like Fanny, you can do so on the pages of our magazine Graziher. Aaron Joined John on the phone to chat his Music and the New Release EP " Changed " - FROM opening the Tamworth Country Music Festival and being announced for other major festival appearances, to writing with award-winning artists and releasing charting singles to radio, Aaron Jurd has achieved it all in a few short years. The Lake Macquarie singer-songwriter releases his third single, Changed, on August 2, charting at No. 8 on iTunes, following on from Hard To Breathe, which hit the top 20 of iTunes celebrating all those feelings of new love. His debut single, Set Me On Fire, reached the top 5 of the iTunes Country Song Charts and tells of the emotional struggles that come with reaching the lowest point in your life, but knowing there is a way out, although you haven’t found it yet. His new single, Changed, on the other hand, is the next chapter from Set Me On Fire, and celebrates the silver lining after the storm. The talented artist has spent years playing gigs in cover bands and duos, but is now performing his originals with his band, The Banned, and this year, so far, they’ve played the Bluewater Country Music Festival and Off to Country Festival with the Deni Ute Muster. Aaron graduated from the 2018 CMAA Academy of Country Music in January 2018 and, with his fellow graduates, performed at the Official Opening Concert of the Tamworth Country Music Festival and was selected to perform at the 2018 Golden Guitar Awards with O’Shea. During his time at The Academy, he worked with Amber Lawrence, Fanny Lumsden, Kasey Chambers, and Kevin Bennett. Aaron also co-wrote a song with seven-time Golden Guitar winner Allan Caswell. “I have spent years writing my own music,” he said. “But, I’m such a perfectionist that none of my songs were ever heard because I was scared of the reception they would get. Releasing Set Me On Fire and people’s reaction to it, had me in a state of euphoria. I have been listening to talented artists releasing their own material for so long and I need to pinch myself to believe that my song is being played on the same radio stations as the artists I look up to.” With his strong vocal abilities, 2013 and 2014 saw Aaron named a finalist in Today’s Country 94one Brand New Star Competition. His success in 2014 meant he was selected to join 10 other artists for a song workshop with country music artist Gina Jeffreys where he co-wrote a song with the star. Aaron’s influences weren’t always country music – he grew up in a small town in the Hunter Valley and soon found music to be an avenue to escape family struggles. Although largely influenced by his parents’ taste in popular rock music up until the age of 16, it was when he heard Brad Paisley’s Welcome to the Future, on CMC that his future musical path was set. Aaron realised he had found his niche and wanted to pursue a career in the country music industry. Since then he has broadened his influences to a range of American and Australian country music artists including Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert and The McClymonts. “Since I heard that first song, I have felt drawn to country music,” he said. “It remains faithful to what music is supposed to be about: the storytelling, emotion, and real-life issues are all expressed and relatable in country music and it captures them in a way that very few other genres can.” With the release of three consecutive top 20 charting singles, Aaron is making his mark on the Australian country music industry with plans to release more original material to further cement his place in the genre. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/2bacr90stonow/message

Fanny Lumsden is a household name - provided, of course, that your house is located at least 50kms or so from the nearest city. She's at the helm of the Country Halls tour, which has seen her perform from coast to coast and plenty of spots in-between alongside her husband Dan and their trusty caravan. Of course, that was until this year - Lumsden's plans for her third album Fallow were put on hold back in March, as were the world's. Fear not, though - from her scenic Tooma home, there were still plenty of stories to be shared across an unconventional, endearing career.  Thanks to Red Dirt Road Productions, Dan Stanley, Wally, El Davros and Paul McWhirter. Iconic duos have been cruelly separated by Miss Rona the world over, but finally your most loved audio couple reunite. Against the suitably spectacular backdrop of Australia's Snowy Mountains region, Drew and Andy are joined by a very special guest, for a very special topic. ARIA-nominated, Golden Guitar Award-winning, chart-topping country singer Fanny Lumsden invites Aural Fixation to swap the Snowies for the Smokies and hitch a ride to Dollywood. No other artist manages to unite the United States (and beyond) quite like Dolly Parton, a fact made all the more remarkable as her flame burns brighter in a time when we've never been more divided. That topic is fascinatingly explored in Dolly Parton's America by WYNC Studios, but on Aural Fixation, we dissect what Dolly means to us as queer listeners, and more broadly, as a beacon of hope in the music industry – a true celebration of Tennessee's third most realistic Dolly Parton drag impersonator. Don’t forget to rate, review and subscribe to Aural Fixation wherever you find your podcasts. Follow us on Facebook, like us on Instagram, and email us on email.

We've got music, sport, water and grain farming this week.   We speak with Fanny Lumsden who is playing at Memorial Park Boundary Bend as part of her Country Halls Tour which has been running for 7 years.  She's a terrific country music artist, and she's allowed us to play a couple of tracks and give away a few double passes.  You can also read about this gig in this week's edition of the Robinvale Sentinel. Leon Johnson is in on one crutch to talk about basketball and his knee so you can quit asking him.  He also likes to hang it on Jade a bit with is comedy for everyone. Kato gives us some headlines from the Sentinel and tells it in Tongan. Finally, Pete Aikman comes in to give us a run down on all of the tennis club happenings and a bit of an overview on the beginning of harvest for him.  It's a really interesting chat.   Check out our facebook and instagram for our giveaway this week.
