This show is known to poke fun at the land down under on more than several occasions. We felt it necessary to do a show on Australia to mispronounce the silly sayings, and give the worst recounting of its history possible... We didn't even mention the giant ducks that used to live there (stupid fail). Also, we regret all of the probable insults to Australians... enjoy!Support the show

TRIGGER WARNING. This episode discusses the 2002 Bali Bombing and involves content that some might find disturbing. ‘Macca' is a knock about Aussie guy who 20 years ago at 19 years old played some pretty sub amateur footy at Kingsley Football Club in Perth. In October 2002, they won the team's first premiership and 20 people flew to Bali for an end-of-season trip to celebrate their victory. But only 13 of the teammates made it home. The remaining seven were killed in the Bali bombings, a terrorist attack which claimed the lives of 202 people, including 88 Australians. Macca remembers seeing and hearing the blast. He was sitting around a table in the Sari Club with some mates and some girls they had befriended that night. What happened in the aftermath, including his response, and the selfless response of his teammates is quite remarkable. This episode is powerful, but it also shows the caring side of Macca who has been profoundly affected by the incident. But it also shows his commitment to his own post traumatic growth. 07:30 Elite research on our guest 08:00 About Kingsley Football Club 08:30 Kingsley Football Club really sucked in 2001! 11:00 The win the Grand Final… and off to Bali they go! 14:00 Into the Sari Club…. NOTE: We're pleased to feature ten of the Network's shows this week for our Labor Day special show; you can also catch it on WPFW 89.3 FM's 2022 Labor Day show at 4p ET (streaming online here) on Monday, September 5. Essential Workers of the Pandemic were inducted into the Labor Hall of Honor on Thursday; Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh talked with Your Rights At Work about honoring these workers, and about the 71% union approval rating – the highest in nearly 50 years – reported in a Gallup poll this week. From the BCTGM Voices Project, Bakery Workers Local 85 and the Corn Nuts Strike in California. And in another California strike, therapists walked out on Kaiser Permanente over a month ago; Building Bridges Radio talks to two of the strikers. In the first of two reports on Starbucks organizing, the Heartland Labor Forum reports on Starbucks shutting down the only store in Kansas City to vote in a union. Our second Starbucks report this week is from the El Cafecito del Día podcast, which brings us “No Contract, No Coffee!”, a conversation with Starbucks workers -- and union organizers -- Sam Amato and Christian Miranda. From the Solidarity Works podcast, “The Battle of Bay City”; bus drivers fight back privatization. And on Red Dead Redemption, Justine chats about the epidemic of 'Quiet Quitting'. The New York State cannabis industry is creating tens of thousands of union jobs; America's Workforce Radio finds out how. From the Power Line Podcast: the history of Milwaukee Tool and the things Milwaukee has done to put itself on top of the tooling industry. Our last segment comes to us from On The Job, and it's titled “Give us a break, Maccas”. That's what they call McDonalds in Australia, where the podcast originates: a quarter of a million current and former McDonalds workers in Australia are suing the fast-food giant for $250 million, over alleged denial of paid breaks. This is your Network, and we're building it like a union organizing campaign, one show and one listener at a time; please help us build sonic solidarity by sharing this show; just click on the share button below. There's an old saying in Government you can't legislate against stupid. You can bring in the toughest laws in the world to stop drink driving, or to prevent people using their phones in the car, but there'll always be a few idiots who just don't get the message. And why is that? Because some people are just plain dumb. Which is exactly why Aussie farmers are packing their daks right now about foot and mouth disease. Because stopping it getting into Australia will really depend on the behaviour of people coming back from Bali. So straight away…. You're talking about a cohort that probably aren't rocket surgeons. But an incident in Darwin last week has revealed the true extent of the problem. How much coverage do you think foot and mouth has got in the media over the past few weeks? A bloody lot, is the correct answer, and you'd think by now that the message to returning travellers is pretty clear. If you're arriving from Bali, you could be bringing in a disease that could destroy a multi-billion-dollar livestock industry. It's already destroyed the political career of Alannah MacTiernan, and she didn't even go to Bali. But despite all the rhetoric from the authorities - and the concern from farmers -and the warnings from Border Force, some numpty in Darwin arrived back from Bali and failed to declare… two sausage and egg mcmuffins and a ham croissant they had hidden away in their backpack. And when I say fail to declare, this donkey allegedly provided a false and misleading customs document, and was only caught out by Darwin Airport's new biosecurity sniffer dog. Don't get me wrong, I probably love a sausage and egg mcmuffin considerably more than the next person - it's the breakfast of champions. But now I know it's also the breakfast of idiots. And this particular idiot copped a fine of two thousand six hundred and sixty four dollars. Now you might be thinking, that's a pretty heft deterrent. But clearly it didn't stop this person from breaking Australia's biosecurity laws to sneak in a couple of mcmuffins. That's why I'm 100 percent confident that you could double that fine and still not stop morons from trying to bring food into the country. Or stop them from hiding all the mud on their shoes by claiming they weren't actually in Indonesians provinces, where foot and mouth is a problem. No one wants to live in a nanny state, but when you can't trust people to do the basics of being a good citizen, you can't blame authorities for taking matters into their own hands.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The cruise industry was thrust into the headlines when the Ruby Princess docked in Sydney at the peak of the pandemic. 28 deaths were linked to the ship. It looked for a while like cruising would never return to its former glory. So where is the industry now? David Jones, Corporate Communications Manager for Carnival Cruises tells us people are returning to cruising and this summer looks like it should be back to business as normal. We also speak with Shauna, a self-described ‘cruiseaholic' who says she can't wait to get back to the high seas and take up where she left off pre-pandemic. So in today's Briefing, what's in store for cruising, and are Covid fears overblown? A few weeks ago, we were meant to interview Isha and her partner, but she bailed. So this week were talk to Isha about her time and experiences in Australia. She had previously bailed from Canada and the United States, but not Australia. See why she now calls Australia home. We talk to her about why she decided on Australia, and the differences between Australia and other English speaking countries. In fact, she has an unusual reason as to why she wanted to come to Australia in the first place. Can you find out what it was? Isha explains to us what it is like to run her own business in Australia. She is one half of BrazilianShop.com.au, which we have previously spoken about on our episode, Maccas. We also speak about some of the common features and differences between Australian and Latin American culture and how this can be difficult for some newcomers to Australia. Pronounciation and listening also get a run in this episode, and Isha and I talk about how we can use our interests to improve our language skills. Enjoy this light hearted episode and gain some motivation in the process. What do you think of her advice? Let us know!
After admitting we're Coffee Kick Frappe fan girls, it made sense to do things you can say at Maccas and in the bedroom. Plus I was WRONG again! Love ya! Then, was Gem starving in a former life? Cos she will not share her food (not even with her 4 year old). Then, look, we need to talk about sleep. Revz thought hers were through the sleep drama, Gem is in the thick of sleepless BS, and we just need to talk about what utter torture sleep deprivation is. And because we're doctors, we wanna talk about the shamey, shamey horse sh*t that is spread around by some people who aren't on team sleep training. Then we talk about the sleep aids WE need to head off to Dreamland and why we think it's ok to give kids NONE when we need so many. Then, can we normalise 0 activity weekends? And let's talk about when you know you're the one at work letting the team down because MOTHERHOOD. Aaaaanyway, it must be Tuesday! - Not Spon Gem: Bosch power drill toy Kate : @bon_tot zodiac totes
