The vast majority of legacy fake news outlets refuse to interview Professor Clements "on the record" based on two stipulations: (1) the interview must be video recorded and (2) the interview can be published in its entirety to ensure context and to curb propaganda-like editorialization. Clements also agrees to not screen any questions in advance. It came as a welcome surprise that Benjamin Wittes, Editor-in-Chief at "Lawfare" and longtime contributor to the Washington Post, agreed to Clements' conditions. What follows is a far reaching interview on Clements' Gideon Strategy, the difference between use of force and violence, First Amendment limits at public protests, and whether its lawful to withhold certification in an election. Curiously, the recording device the parties were to rely on from "Lawfare" on "failed" to video record the interview, and the audio from Clements was inaudible. However, Clements screen-captured the entire video and was able to salvage the audio, and poor image quality to present this interview. Be on the lookout for any potential hit pieces from "Lawfare" and compare their article to the conversation that takes place here.

Nearly 60 years after assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the US government continues to keep thousands of files classified. President Trump and most recently President Biden both decided to block access to key archival documents (on the advice of the CIA) despite a law that says everything should have been released by now. Former Washington Post reporter and author Jefferson Morley, one of the most credible authorities on the assassination joined Mosheh for a conversation last fall.  What is the CIA still withholding from the public and why?  What did they know about Lee Harvey Oswald's actions in the lead up to November 22, 1963 and why were so many CIA officials tracking his movements before the assassination? And could Oswald have pulled this off alone or was he being coached and assisted by any others? Morley is the editor of the JFK Facts blog, author of several books on the intelligence community and has spent a career exploring what happened and fighting for the government to release everything it knows. Episode 8 of the Border Wars Podcast is about El Salvador. On October 15, 2018, the U.S. Department of Justice designated La Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) as a major transnational criminal organization. Consecutive governments in El Salvador tried to negotiate with MS-13 leaders in efforts to calm down gang violence and reduce the high-rate of homicides. These efforts failed. Former Washington Post investigative journalist and U.S. Defense Department consultant, Douglas Farah, has been investigating gangs in El Salvador since their formation in the 1990s. Published by the Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS), his most recent report argues that MS-13 is no longer simply a street gang but rather a Community-Embedded Transnational Armed Group (CETAG) that operates in several countries with a structured order of battle and political power. Doug's work on gangs and transnational organized crime pioneered a new concept called "criminalized states," which we discuss in the latest episode of the Border Wars Podcast. Americans hear about North Korea a lot. Unfortunately, it’s usually from pop culture: The Daily Show, The Interview, Saturday Night Live skits. Former Washington Post correspondent Blaine Harden says those depictions often paint the totalitarian state as having a cartoon-like craziness. For years, he wanted to write a book on North Korea, the Korean War and the Kim dynasty, but Harden knew a book solely on those topics probably wouldn’t fly off store shelves.
