In this episode, Mosh sits down with Chris Whipple, author of the new book Uncharted: How Trump Beat Biden, Harris, and the Odds in the Wildest Campaign in History for a behind-the-scenes look at the tight-lipped four years of the Biden Administration. Whipple interviewed several former White House staffers–including Biden's former Chief of Staff, Ron Klain–about Biden's decline before and during his presidency, and what he calls a “fog of delusion and denial” in the President's inner circle leading into the 2024 campaign. He takes us inside Camp David for the prep before his disastrous June 27 debate, and the chaos in the Democratic party during the three weeks after the debate until Biden's decision to drop out. It's also a story of personalities in Washington: the complicated relationship between Biden and Barack Obama, why Kamala Harris' loyalty may have contributed to her failed campaign, and why President Trump's Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, might have a better handle on him than anyone who held the role in his first term.
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY), joins Mo News for a wide-ranging conversation, starting with how his experience growing up in poverty and housing insecurity influences his leadership and how he got to Congress. We discuss Torres's criticisms that the Democratic Party lost touch with the working class, as well as how Democrats are trying to fight the Trump administration. Torres talks tariffs, deportations and Israel–as one of the most prominent pro-Israel members of Congress. Plus, New York state politics: Torres explains his criticisms of New York's Democratic leadership, his endorsement of Andrew Cuomo for the NYC Mayor's race and when he will make a final decision on whether to challenge sitting Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul.
Doing laundry for a single family can be enough trouble. How about a team full of professional athletes? In this episode, Mosh visits an NBA locker room to interview Joe Cuomo and Kevin Conwell, the Equipment Manager and Assistant Equipment manager for the Brooklyn Nets, to learn how they deal with thousands of pounds of gear each week–between jerseys, practice uniforms, shoes, and personal clothing–to make sure athletes can practice and perform at their best for the 82-game season. Joe and Kevin explain how they manage the preferences and personalities in a team full of athletes, how equipment managers across the country support each other on the road, and provide some practical tips from the professionals on how to get out tough stains, sweat, and blood while keeping clothes looking fresh. This episode is sponsored by Tide and Downy; it was produced in partnership with Procter & Gamble and the NBA Equipment Managers Association. #TidePartner - https://nbaema.com/official-laundry-partners/ — Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. In this episode, Mosh sits down with Dana Perino, former White House Press Secretary and co-anchor of Fox News's The Five & America's Newsroom, for a wide-ranging conversation on media, politics, and building a meaningful life and career. Dana is the author of a new book with a collection of life advice from her friends, colleagues and mentors, ‘I Wish Someone Had Told Me.' They also talk about the evolution of journalism, technology, politics and trust in media, the difference between “success” and “meaning” in a career, and the importance of remaining curious and optimistic. Mosh and Dana also talk about their respective journeys to Washington, including insights from Dana's time as White House Press Secretary for President George W. Bush and her time in the media. Plus, some insight into handling communications for a president, and what Dana has to say about the styles of Presidents Bush, Biden, and Trump.
Today, laundry takes just a few buttons and a spin cycle—but behind that convenience lies a remarkable story of innovation and perseverance. In this episode, Procter & Gamble's historian and corporate storyteller Shane Meeker takes us on a journey through the evolution of laundry—from the gritty days of 19th-century soapmaking to the revolutionary invention of Tide, the detergent that took 14 years to create. From the company's origins in the 1800s making soap and candles, we uncover how science, storytelling, and even wartime research reshaped household routines. Plus, the unexpected role P&G played in inventing the TV soap opera, and how today's laundry labs continue to evolve with consumer habits. How do we hold power accountable—no matter which party's in charge? Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, joins Mo News to break down the controversy surrounding the leaked Signal app chat of Trump officials planning military strikes, and the broader issue of how both parties handle classified information. Himes doesn't mince words, slamming his own party for a lack of accountability after the deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan, and drawing a hard line on why every administration must be held to the same standard—regardless of politics. He also addresses the Trump administration's policy of detaining and deporting international students—warning it could become a dark chapter in U.S. history reminiscent of the McCarthy era. Himes breaks down who should be deported, and who shouldn't, making the case that lawful protest and unpopular opinions should not be grounds for deportation. Finally, he offers candid insight into the state of the Democratic Party and why he believes the base is justified in feeling upset.
Mo News visited the White House recently to get insight into the Trump agenda 60 days into the administration, including their messaging and approach to the media. The previous special included conversations with RFK Jr and a top White House policy official. This episode will include two additional conversations with two members of the White House communications team: First, Harrison Fields is the Special Assistant to the President and Principal Deputy Press Secretary. We talk about how he got into politics, SignalGate, and the Trump Administration's new car tariffs. Fields also worked for the first Trump Administration, and talks about how Trump 2.0 is different from Trump 1.0. Second, Alex Pfeiffer is the White House Deputy Communications Director. We talk about the Trump Administration's approach to the mainstream media, whether he thinks Republican support from young men will extend past President Trump, and Pfeiffer's own “media diet.” Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. Mo News visited the White House this week to get perspective on the Trump agenda 60 days into the administration from DOGE to immigration to tariffs to their “Make America Healthy Again” initiative. We interviewed several top officials during our trip. This episode will include two conversations. First, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. joined us just hours after announcing sweeping cuts to his department—slashing the workforce by thousands. Kennedy argues the agency (which includes the CDC, FDA, NIH, and others) has grown bloated under Biden and says fewer administrators will actually make it more effective. Kennedy also opened up about his crackdown on soda in food stamps, his baby formula initiative, and where the president has drawn a line when it comes to MAHA. In a wide-ranging conversation, Kennedy laid out his plan to reshape HHS—and why he believes doing “more with less” will improve care. Second, we present our conversation with May Mailman, a senior policy strategist and Deputy Assistant to the President. She discussed what makes the second Trump term different, from the whirlwind pace, to the pre-planned executive orders and how aggressive implementation have reshaped the administration's early impact. We get into the administration's controversial border deportation strategy, including the legal battle over deporting alleged gang members to El Salvador using a law from 1798. Beyond that, Mailman also opens up about working with Elon Musk on the administration's Doge initiative to cut government waste, explaining why his “outsider” mindset—paired with insider legal expertise—is making changes she once thought were impossible. We also explore how those aggressive early cuts are being refined to avoid what some call indiscriminate slashing. Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. The first months of the second Trump administration have been filled with economic headlines: on-again/off-again tariffs, fluctuating markets, and the threat of a recession. In this episode, we dive deep with Roben Farzad, host of NPR's Full Disclosure podcast, on how we got here to this point over the last several decades. Roben explains how years of free trade and offshoring have led to rising stock markets and cheap luxury goods, while millions of Americans still feel the pinch of rising inflation and housing prices–issues that swept Trump into office in 2024. We also discuss the rise of China and whether Trump's tariff plan is a realistic solution for solving these problems. Plus, electric vehicles, the state of the media, and how AI will affect all of these areas going forward. Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. Since his inauguration just over one month ago, President Trump has signed a series of executive orders and taken other actions to remake and reduce the size of the federal government. And in the process, he's challenging the checks and balances that are a hallmark of our democracy. Dozens of lawsuits have been filed in the past month challenging some of those executive actions. Federal courts across the country have started to weigh in. We thought it would be a good idea to go back to basics, with some Government and Constitution 101. And for that, we're talking to Ben Sheehan, best-selling author of What Does the Constitution Actually Say? A Non-Boring Guide to How Our Democracy Is Supposed to Work. Ben has appeared as a political analyst on Real Time with Bill Maher, Good Morning America and CBS News. He's host of the upcoming series Civics Made Easy on PBS. We all have so many questions when it comes to fabric care. How do you get your whites whiter, avoid shrinkage, and get out those really tough stains? What is the ideal temperature to wash your clothes? Do you actually need to separate whites from colors? What is the best way to pre-treat clothes? Should you use any setting besides ‘normal?' Also, do those missing socks really go missing in the machine, or is that a figment of our imagination? We addressed dozens of your questions in this ‘news you can use' conversation with Procter & Gamble Senior Scientist Sammy Wang. She helps lead teams creating products like Downy and Tide. Wang recently visited Mosheh's home as he got a new washer and dryer in his new apartment. It's now been more than 400 days since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7th, 2023, killing more than 1200 people, and kidnapping more 250 others, including Israelis and foreign nationals. Mosheh sits down with Jonathan Haidt, author of the New York Times bestseller and the buzziest book of 2024, ‘Anxious Generation.' He has documented the real-life impact of how smartphones, social media, and parenting shifts have led to a massive rise in mental health issues among today's youngest generations. Haidt shares insights from his book, and what he has already learned since it was published this spring. He also dives into the fascinating history of how societal changes and technological advancements–dating back to the 1980s– impacted teen mental health and development. Bottom Line: parents stopped letting their kids play unsupervised at the real playground, but gave them free reign in the (more dangerous) digital playground. We also discuss which CEOs and decision makers have reached out to him, and who hasn't, since his book was published. In the interview, Haidt also explains how social media has harmed girls and boys differently, and dives into his simple four-part solution to stopping this runawaytrain in its tracks. — Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. How many journalists do we think vote Democrat over Republican, and what mainstream media outlets do we think survive long-term? Those are among the questions we try to answer in today's conversation with Ben Smith and Nayeema Raza, journalists from the news site Semafor, co-hosts of the brand new media podcast, Mixed Signals. Smith and Raza also talk to Mosheh about how the media is shaping public perception, what still matters in political coverage, and the REAL media conspiracy the public needs to know about. We also delve into the complexities of media coverage on global conflicts, focusing on Gaza and other wars around the world and how newsrooms think about foreign reporting. In an era of artificial intelligence and increasingly complex misinformation, how can we navigate what is true this election year? This year, campaigns are engaged in another cycle of misleading and, at times, dissuading Americans from voting. We dive into the topic of misinformation in modern political campaigns with renowned reporter and author Sasha Issenberg. In his new book, "The Lie Detectives," Issenberg goes back to the use of misinformation as far back as the Thomas Jefferson presidential campaign, and how the tactic has evolved with the internet and social media. The conversation explores the impact of false information on public opinion and the integrity of elections, highlighting real-world examples and the role of social media platforms in the dissemination of misleading content. Issenberg's expertise sheds light on how both parties are doing this and the consequences for the democratic process. — Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. As much as we all want to move on from COVID, there are so many important lessons we need to learn from the many failures of the US response and fixing things for the future. Two award-winning journalists are out with a new book, The Big Fail, that examines how the U.S. so badly bungled the pandemic and the lessons learned. Co-author Bethany McLean joins Mosheh and breaks down what their reporting found. The book is critical of the left and the right, including Fauci, Trump, Newsom, DeSantis, the CDC, the teachers' union—pretty much everyone. The book runs the numbers and the final assessment on masks, the vaccine, school closures, the lockdowns that challenge conservative and liberal thinking four years later. — Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist.
