This week on On Story we'll hear from screenwriter April Shih who has worked on shows like Dave, You're The Worst, and This is America and Tripper Clancy who wrote the script for 2019's Stuber, and has worked on Netflix's I Am Not Okay With This.   April Shih is a screenwriter and producer, known for You're the Worst, Mrs. America,starring Cate Blanchett and most recently served as supervising producer on FX's Dave, which follows the semi-autobiographical story of American rapper Lil Dicky. April has also produced several films and plays including the Ovation Award-winning revival of Kiss of the Spiderwoman: The Musical.   Tripper Clancy is a screenwriter known for writing the scripts for Stuber which starred Kumali Nanjiani and Dave Bautista as well as Die Hart starring Kevin Hart and John Travolta. Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com The FX Network released its first season of the new motorcycle club based series named "Myans M.C.".  They ran 10 episodes the first season and the last one aired in early November 2018.  Although this is somewhat of a spin-off series from the Sons of Anarchy motorcycle club based FX Series, it is also very different in many ways.  In this podcast episode, we break the series down for you and what's it's all about.  The big question will be whether, as a biker, you should invest the time to watch the Mayans M.C. series?  We do a roundtable and each of us gives you our personal opinions to help answer that question.  I will tell you that after being a watcher of the Sons Of Anarchy series, I wasn't that invested after watching the first 3 episodes of the Mayans M.C. But, by the 4th episode, things started to flow for me and I am now a definite watcher and look forward to seeing if they'll release season two in 2019! Hawley created FX’s award winning series Fargo, which is loosely based on the Coen brothers film, and Legion which is set in the Marvel universe. Later we’ll hear from legendary producer and The Terminator co-writer Gale Anne Hurd. Noah Hawley is a Peabody Award winning novelist and an Emmy and Golden Globe award winning television creator. In 2014 he created the FX anthology Fargo which was inspired by the 1996 Coen brothers film of the same name. In 2017 he followed up Fargo with Legion, which is set in the Marvel universe and connected to the X-Men film series. Hawley spoke with On Story producer Maya Perez at the 24th Austin Film Festival in 2017. Gale Anne Hurd is one of the industry’s most respected film and television producers. In 1984 she produced and co-wrote her first feature film, the seminal genre classic The Terminator. She followed that film by producing Aliens, The Abyss, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Most recently Hurd has served as an Executive Producer on AMC’s The Walking Dead. The second season of the American cable television series Legion is based on the Marvel Comics character David Haller / Legion, a mutant diagnosed with schizophrenia at a young age. The season is connected to the X-Men film series, and is produced by FX Productions in association with Marvel Television. Noah Hawley serves as showrunner. Dan Stevens stars as Haller, with Rachel Keller, Aubrey Plaza, Bill Irwin, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder and Jean Smart also returning from the first season to star. They are joined by Jemaine Clement and Hamish Linklater, promoted from guest roles in the first season, and Navid Negahban. A second season of Legion was ordered by FX in March 2017, with filming for the season relocating from Vancouver to California, to take advantage of tax incentives. Production began in September 2017, with practical effects again a priority for the series' crew. The season features the parasitic villain Amahl Farouk / Shadow King, portrayed by Negahban, searching for his original body after being forced out of Haller's mind at the end of the first season.
