This episode is a treasure map that leads us through the quirky streets of Seattle's Fremont district, known as the "Center of the Universe." Whether it's the neon Rapunzel or the infamous Troll, Fremont's artistic side is a cache full of stories waiting to be discovered. From bridges and tunnels to Goonies-like scenes, Craig's geocaching road trip reminds us of the wonder tucked away in everyday travels. As we traverse the neighborhood of Fremont, we uncover surprising histories, like a piece of the Berlin Wall, and the controversial art that sparks conversation among locals and visitors alike. Adventure labs and local shops round out the discussion, illustrating how geocaching can be an inclusive and varied experience, even in the heart of urban Seattle. Finally, the podcast is a celebration of the bonds that form within the geocaching community. Sharing the joy of stumbling upon a tree draped in chairs or a former podcast guest joining the Geocaching HQ team, these stories exemplify the spirit that continues to inspire adventurers. If you enjoy this podcast, consider buying me a coffee: https://adamstoner.com/support On October 18th, along with 14,000 other people in a sold-out exhibition that lasted just two weeks, I saw Gaia, a seven meter wide re-creation of the Earth by UK artist Luke Jerram at Gloucester Cathedral. The piece explores the ‘Overview Effect' that many astronaughts report after seeing Earth from a distance; isolated, alone, and floating in nothing but darkness. Gaia is accompanied by a soundtrack which features Sir David Attenborough and succeeds in making you feel incredibly small and fragile. We're used to having maps in the palm of our hand, not towering over us. Listen to the podcast version of this newsletter to hear Luke talk about his artwork and hear an excerpt of the soundtrack. Attenborough's lines in the Gaia soundtrack come from the new Netflix documentary-cum-autobiography A Life On Our Planet. It's a watch that will have your jaw (and at points, all hope for our future survival) on the floor. I'm no Attenborough but I have been trying to get out before the weather gets in my way. My girlfriend and I went geocaching, the hobby that involves using multi-million dollar satellites to find plastic containers hidden by others in the real-world. It's the first time I've done it properly since 2016 and I've become a little addicted to it; I'm now on 33 finds, 17 this month. We've been along the ridgeway and even explored the Forest of Dean's sculpture trail in quest of them. Listen to the podcast version of this newsletter to hear Chris from Geocaching HQ in Seattle describe the hobby. My adventures that I mentioned at the opener of the last email have now featured in Activity Quest, the podcast I produce at Fun Kids. Climbing is good fun – an extreme sport, I learned – and something I plan on taking up. Listen to the podcast version of this newsletter to hear me go climbing at The Warehouse in Gloucester where I chat with route-setter Josh and Director of The Warehouse, Andrew. I wrote about how I keep my audio journal on the 19th. It's something I've been doing more-or-less daily for five years now and includes tips on how you can keep your own. It's something I've found incredibly rewarding over the years and probably one of the best things I've ever done. As with all posts on my website, it comes with – you guessed it – a podcast equivelent where you can hear excepts from that diary. Elsewhere, Mollie's, run by the team at Soho House, sits between Oxford and Swindon on the A420. It's a modern diner and motel, complete with a drive-thru (if you haven't booked in advance). A meal for two cost less than the Five Guys equivalent and was twice as delicious. Milkshakes are mandatory if ever you visit… In an effort to consume less rolling news coverage – which is almost always inaccurate and of poor quality, especially if you're getting it from social media – I've been using Guardian Editions. You get the daily newspaper delivered digitally when you wake-up and, importantly, get no further updates until the following day. I've found it very useful especially with the dyad of a US election and global pandemic. Speaking of the US election, I took out an Amazon Prime Video trial to watch Sacha Baron-Cohen's Borat follow-up, Subsequent Moviefilm, which focuses entirelty on the President, the election, and COVID–19. Like the first, it is crass and vulgar but lands every punch with some real laugh-out-loud moments. I've also been watching 60 Days In, a reality TV format that sees ordinary folk go undercover in a US jail to help wardens improve the facility, as well as Emily in Paris which is Ugly Betty, if Betty worked for a luxury Parisian marketing firm. I like Netflix's new AI-powered shuffle, their Play Something feature. Let me know what you're watching by replying to this email. If you have any suggestions for anything else you think I might enjoy, let me know those also. Alright, that's all for now. Over the coming month, I plan to write about the brands I expect to buy from this holiday season, share some tips and tricks I've learned whilst producing podcasts that could help you elevate your own audio production, and share something else that I've been writing and researching for almost a year. adamstoner.com is the place to keep checking back for those. See you soon.

This week on The Oh Beep! Geocaching Podcast, we're going back to basics to discuss the different Geocache types.  We also have a special story for our younger listeners. If you have any comments on this show, past shows, or anything else geocaching related then please send it to feedback@ohbeep.com.  You can also find us on Twitter (@ohbeepgcp), Google+ (google.com/Ohbeepgcp), Facebook (facebook.com/ohbeepgcp).  Or at www.ohbeep.com. Because of Geocaching... This weeks because of geocaching comes from The Monkey King, in Australia. Feedback... From The Monkey King G'day Mark, Probably most of the caches here are traditional types, and a lot of the ones I have found are of the 'unnatural  pile of sticks' variety, but the more I find, the better the cache hides are getting. For my own hides I try to put them in hard to find/get to places or make them very sneaky in the more public areas.  I am a fan of drilling a small tree branch to hide a bison tube in for example. If I put a cache in an easy to find area, I try to make that cache interesting to make up for the easy find. We also have two main ways of hiding caches here in Australia - GC and GA (Geocaching Australia).  GA allows for virtual/locationless caches, something that groundspeak 'grandfathered', which is a pity, as they can be more fun to find. If you want to make a locationless caches, then you can do so through GCA, as you can list a cache from anywhere in the world. PSY, based in London, have a kickstarter project that may appeal to Geocachers who enjoy night caching, or spend their nights on the hunt for FTF's.  The product is the Snooperscope and it gives your smartphone the ability to see in the dark.  Yes, its night vision for your smartphone.  For more information go to www.snooperscope.co.uk.  This unit is priced at £60 in the UK and $99 in the US. Video of the week...  Geocache Types... We've made these descriptions as simple as possible, for the sake of brevity and your sanity, if you'd like more information on the different types of Geocaching.com caches go to http://www.geocaching.com/about/cache_types.aspx Traditional Geocache Bread and butter caches.  Get the co-ordinates and go out and find the container.  The simplest form of cache. Mystery or Puzzle Caches A bit more complicated.  Often you need to solve a puzzle to get the correct co-ordinates.  The puzzle can either be in the cache description, or it may be something you need to do in the field.  It can also mean a cache that doesn't fit in to the other categories. Multi-Cache A cache type done in stages, each on giving a clue to the location of the next.  Eventually leading you to the cache itself. EarthCache This is an educational cache type.  You go to a location and learn something about the earth.  To log the cache you often have answer questions about the geology of the location.  For more information go to www.earthcache.org Letterbox Hybrid Uses clues, not co-ordinates.  When the cache box has been found, the finder stamps the log with their own stamp and then stamps their own log book with the stamp in the box.  For more information go to www.letterboxing.org Event Cache A gathering of Geocachers at a certain location and time. Cache In Trash Out Event (CITO) Geocachers gather at a given location and "clean up". Mega-Event Cache An event attended by 500+ people, with arranged activities. Wherigo™ Cache Players load a "cartridge" in to their device.  When opened it will give you a location to go to and a task or tasks to carry out.  Once completed, it will then reveal further tasks - usually requiring you to go to another location.  The tasks can be as simple as answering a question about a location.  Often the final stage is a cache hide.  Learn more at Wherigo.com. Geocaching HQ Geocache You go to the Geocaching Hq in Seattle and log it as a find. Lookup GCK25B, for more information. GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit A find of this type represents attendance at the GPS Adventures Maze Exhibit or a regional variation. GPS Adventures Mazes are designed to teach people of all ages about GPS technology and geocaching through interactive science experiences. Lab Caches The are Beta chache types, a way of Groundspeak to experiment with ideas that they may, or may not, introduce properly in to the game. Grandfathered Caches Virtual - You go to a location and carry out a task, such as take a picture or answer a question about it.  This then forms part of your log.  The idea is that the location itself is the reward, not a container. Webcam Cache  - You go to a defined location, where a webcam is viewing, then get someone (or do it yourself) to get a screen grab from the website the cams feed is viewed on.  You have to be in the picture. Project A.P.E Cache - Part of the advertising campaign for Planet of The Apes.  A series of ammo cans, containing props from the film.  Info on the only one that still exists can be found at http://coord.info/GCC67.  This one is hidden in a rain forest in Brazil. Locationless Caches - With this type you find a defined object and log its co-ordinates.  These types are still allowed on other Geocache listing sites - such as www.opencaching.org.uk Bonus Feature... We have to thank Ms Mel and Mr Chris from www.nightlightstories.net podcast for the following fictional story about Geocaching.  Nightlightstories podcast features original children's stories, written and narrated by the hosts.  We hope your children enjoy the adventures of Geocacher Haver Hawkings, in Terrapene Ornata, Part 1.
