Hi Team, I'm tied up today, so we're going to revisit a fun chat I had with the amazing Gorgi Coghlan. *Gorgi Coghlan is a ripper. Real, vulnerable, philosophical, smart, driven, compassionate, perfectionistic (self-admitted) and great to talk with. She has worked as a successful TV Host, Presenter, Journalist, Reporter, Singer and before all the famous stuff, she was a passionate and dedicated school teacher. I love it when people I've watched on the telly for years turn out to be ace in real life. So, Coggers (as I now call her) and I spoke about her anxiety journey, her philosophy on maintaining a healthy marriage, the Untethered Soul (her fave book), seeking external validation, attaching to thoughts, interviewing famous people from around the world, recovering from perfectionism, hanging out with Will Ferrell, life on her farm, responding vs. reacting, the science of self-regulation and lots more. Enjoy.  @gorgicoghlanSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Sometimes we let the grind wear us down. In a bid to eat, or have a roof over our heads, or even the pressure to provide for others, the grind can chip away at who we are, and who we really want to be. Then we look back and it's been an extended period of time, but you feel like you are standing in the same place. It takes a unique person that knows how to call it, when it's time to change it up, walk away or do something different. It's ballsy, but also a talent within itself, as it takes reflection, awareness, and strength. Gorgi Coghlan is one of those people. Gorgi studied Pharmacology and Zoology at University, holds a Bachelor of Science, but when it came to a lifetime in a lab, it wasn't for her. Gorgi further studied teaching, and taught Science for a few years across senior school, before getting the inkling her trajectory needed to change again. All in that time her love for performing and being a classically trained singer never faded, and Gorgi started a long lasting career across TV, Media, Music, Theatre, Presenting and Journalism. From Today Show presenter, to a host of The Circle and ultimately 10 years on Network Ten's The Project, whilst also juggling singing and Theatre shows, Gorgi worked tirelessly but it was clear whilst hard working, talented and committed, she also listened to her intuition and stuck by her values at each fork in the road. So we talk to Gorgi about what it is to follow your curiosity? What does she do to follow her intuition? How does she know when it's time to set boundaries for herself? And how does she navigate the fast pace of media to protect her intuition and live by her core values?   Rebecca Bull – Creator / Executive Producer / Co-Host Zoe Weir – Co-Creator / Co – Host Sophie Jackson – Producer Social Media – Naughty Nancy Social Media Agency Website / Brand Design – Foster Creative Video Editor – Luke MorganSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Our Powerful Stories podcast guest today is Gorgi Coglan a singer, broadcaster and award winning owner of the boutique Hotel Ballarat who is not afraid to step into her power and deep dive into what makes her tick. She listens to her intuition and it has served her well throughout her high profile television career and as a mother of one. I was intrigued by the tag line on her new business Bermingham Farm, a sacred place she created with her husband for others to gather, learn, evolve and grow.  It simply says “come home to yourself”. When I asked her what this meant it struck a chord as she shared “it means the power within' taken from one of her favourite quotes by Chopra as " everything I desire is within me". In a world where external validation happens every minute of every day, when we're scrolling, when we are looking at this culture obsessed with celebrityism, when we are looking at anyone from a person that used to host a reality TV show, that becomes the US President. Georgi and I are 100% aligned as we both believe that it is important to remind ourselves that all of our power comes from within and if we do the inner work there are infinite possibilities waiting for us if we just take the time out in nature to stop, lean in and learn to evolve and grow. This is an incredibly spiritual insight into how you can propel forward this year and beyond by removing yourself from what no longer serves you and create space for what you truly desire in this lifetime.Topics discussed:1) You had a high profile media career before taking a powerful step and focusing on your family - what encouraged you to make this power move? 2) From a starring role on The Project to small business owner - what are 3 key learnings that have kept you grounded and focused? 3) You partner with your husband  to create extraordinary experiences for others in regional Australia - who's the creative force and who's the backbone of the business in terms of structure.  How do you make it work raising your daughter because I know the juggle can be real. 4) Life can be over in a heart beat- what do you cherish most? 5) You are launching a series of events for women in 2023 - what are they and how can we become involved? 6) Your next powerful step?   You can connect with Gorgi via instagram @gorgicoglan or www.berminghamfarm.com.au Are you ready to take a powerful step forward in business and life? In our fifth episode, Gorgi Krlev and Dominik Domnik discuss what it takes to foster innovation that benefits society. We delve into what social innovation is, and what role public policy and specific funding instruments play for the growth of the sector. Gorgi is an assistant professor of sustainability at ESCP Paris. He has conducted a study comparing and assessing approaches from 10 different countries to support social innovation. Dominik works for LMU's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center. He has previously worked for a foundation and a family office and set-up his own social business. They discuss the rationale for factoring in the long-term benefits for society when investing into innovative solutions to societal problems, whether you are a policy maker or an investor. We also address jargon and how to bridge cultural differences between the private sector, the public sector, and civil society to jointly promote social innovation. Links Gorgi conducted the study “Financing Social Innovation” on behalf of SEND, the German Social Entrepreneurship Network. Examples mentioned by Gorgi and Dominik: Portugal Social Innovation is a government initiative aimed at stimulating the social investment market in Portugal. It mobilizes around EUR 150 million from the European Social Fund through 4 financing instruments: capacity building for social investment, partnerships for impact, social impact bonds, and the social innovation fund. Power Up Scotland develops early stage social businesses through investment, business support and cross-sector partnerships. It has been launched by Big Issue Invest in partnership with the Scottish Government and the University of Edinburgh. The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra received an endowment capital fund of approximately 84 million euros from the Bank of Finland and the Finnish Parliament. Sitra's work is funded by the returns from its capital. Investments up and running and underway include Social Impact Bonds (SIB), e.g. with a focus on Type 2 diabetes prevention. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/la-case-books/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/la-case-books/support

You've Gotta Start Somewhere

Gorgi Goghlan is a journalist, singer and host of The Project. Gorgi grew up on a sheep farm in Warrnambool and started her career as a teacher at McKinnon Secondary College. While she loved teaching her students she also loved performing and on nights and weekends she would perform in her own one-woman Shania Twain tribute show. Complete with back up dancers. Eventually she realised she needed to make performing a bigger part of her life so she said goodbye to her high school kids and went off to follow her dreams. Gorgi started in television on the community television station, Channel 31 and eventually got a gig as a reporter on The Today Show. In 2010 she was announced as host of The Circle along with Denise Drysdale, Yumi Stynes and Chrissie Swan. In this episode, Gorgi Coghlan talks about the heartbreaking moment she left her career as a high school teacher, her super power when it comes to manifesting her dreams, how she ended up behind the desk at The Project and starting up the Australian Shania Twain tribute show.
