My newsletter: https://simonowens.substack.com/ For years, Hollywood writer Aaron Tracy built his career inside the traditional television system, writing for shows like Law & Order and navigating the endless cycle of pilots, canceled series, and development purgatory that defines much of the TV business. But over the last several years, Tracy has quietly carved out a very different kind of entertainment career: producing serialized audio dramas for platforms like Audible and iHeart. Along the way, he's worked with everyone from Aaron Paul to Lizzy Caplan to Glenn Powell, helping pioneer a form of storytelling that sits somewhere between television, audiobooks, and podcasting. In a recent interview, Tracy explained why audio dramas offer writers far more creative freedom than television, how he packages and sells narrative shows to platforms like Audible and iHeart, and the surprisingly lean production process behind large-scale audio series.

Former TV anchor turned “socialpreneur” Lee Marshall shares the 20-year story behind Kids to Love—one of Alabama's most impactful nonprofits serving children in foster care. Lee opens up about her adoption roots, the flight that sparked the nonprofit's founding in 2004, and how Kids to Love grew from a garage project into a statewide ecosystem: K-TECH workforce training, college scholarships, a child-placing agency, Davidson Farms and cottages for girls aging out of care, and the new Smith Family Wellness Center—home to one of the nation's most comprehensive trauma therapy programs. We also dig into Alabama's new Safe Haven baby boxes (and how Lee helped make them a reality), scaling best practices to Tennessee, winning “Best Place to Work,” building a leadership team, and why education—not band-aids—is the path out of poverty.Holiday help: Kids to Love provides full wish lists (toys + clothes) for 2,000+ kids each year. This episode is especially close to my heart—meet my Grandma, lovingly nicknamed “Bocca” when we were just toddlers. At 90 years young, she's still sharper than a tack! You could say my love for TV hosting runs in the family. My grandparents hosted a Christian television show called Heartbeat for over 30 years, interviewing remarkable figures like Mother Teresa and how Joel Osteen's father, John, got his start. Their missionary work truly spanned the globe. For this episode, I traveled to North Carolina, where their former television station has now been transformed into a beautiful home and family retreat... I have lots of videos to show you! And of course, no visit with Grandma is complete without stories—like the time I accidentally convinced her to buy me alcohol when I was 13. Oh, the memories! ______________________________ Follow me on my Instagram or Facebook Podcast Facebook page here Check out KristiCapel.com Email: Kristicapelpodcast@gmail.com

In this SAFE SPACE episode, Jess sits down with Steph Trethewey to explore what it’s really like to be a rural mum, isolated, without support, and raising a newborn in the middle of nowhere. Former TV journalist Steph left her high-profile career behind to raise a family on a remote Tasmanian farm, but what followed was a brutal mental health spiral into postnatal depression. Cut off from her community, career, and sense of identity, she found herself deeply unravelling, an experience shared by many rural mothers across Australia. In this powerful conversation, Steph shares the unseen toll of rural motherhood, including staggering statistics: over 70% of rural mums say isolation is the hardest part of parenting, and half don’t have access to a mother’s group. This is a must-hear episode about resilience, breaking down, and the strength it takes to ask for help. Is there somebody you'd like to share this episode with? Just tap the 3 dots above ⬆︎ and pass it on LINKS: Out of Steph’s darkness came Motherland, a community for bush mums that has became a lifeline for rural women across Australia.
