About Dr. Timo De Groof Dr. Timo De Groof studied Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the University of Ghent where he graduated in 2015. During his master's studies, he specialized in Biomedical Biotechnology and Structural Biology/Biochemistry. During his last year of studies, Timo performed research in the biopharmaceutical company Argen x and gained experience in the identification and characterization of llama-derived antibodies in inflammatory diseases and oncology. From 2015 to 2019, he completed his Ph.D. in the Medicinal Chemistry group at VU University Amsterdam under the supervision of prof. dr. Martine Smit. During his Ph.D., Timo, together with Dr. Raimond Heukers, developed a nanobody platform within the research group and used this platform to develop nanobodies targeting viral G protein-coupled receptors with a special focus on the human cytomegalovirus-encoded chemokine receptor US28. During his Ph.D., he used these nanobodies as research tools, to investigate different GPCR conformations, while also focusing on their therapeutic potential in oncology and transplant infectious disease. Starting from September 2019, Timo started working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in the In Vivo Cellular and Molecular Imaging (ICMI) group that is focused on translational/clinical applications of nanobodies. He currently is focusing on the development of nanobody-based immunotracers as part of the IMI/EFPIA project entitled "Immune Image". Moreover, he is closely involved in multiple projects where he focuses on the generation of nanobodies against "difficult-to-target" proteins. As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, your news feed is likely still overflowing with both breaking research and rumors. Virologist Angela Rasmussen of Columbia University joins Ira once again to Fact Check Your Feed, discussing everything from two vaccine trials’ hopeful early results to what antibody production might mean for long-term protection against the COVID-19 virus. They also discuss kids’ response to SARS-CoV-2—a topic of great interest to parents and educators trying to make plans for the coming school year—as well as the confusing terminology around ‘aerosol’ and ‘airborne,’ and research into mutations of the spike protein in one coronavirus variant. Recently, the European Space Agency’s Solar Orbiter satellite sent photos of surprising events on the sun’s surface. Scientists are calling these swirling areas “campfires,” though no one is quite sure what causes them. Joining Ira to talk about these new images is Anik de Groof, instrument operations scientist for the Solar Orbiter, based in Madrid, Spain. They talk about what kind of data the satellite is collecting, how COVID-19 impacted the mission, and what solar mysteries Anik is most excited to learn more about. This month, three different countries are launching missions to Mars—the first for The United Arab Emirates, China is sending an orbiter and a rover, and NASA’s Perseverance will join the Curiosity rover already on the ground. Amy Nordrum from MIT Technology Review talks about the science that each of these missions will be conducting.

Het is zover: de super satelliet van ESA en NASA genaamd Solar Orbiter is onderweg naar de zon om daar van heel dichtbij te bestuderen hoe de ster precies in elkaar zit. Hij gaat kijken naar de nog weinig bestudeerde magnetische polen aan de boven- en onderkant van de zon. Aan boord zitten allerlei belangrijke sensoren, die tegen een stootje en zo'n 500 graden moeten kunnen. onderzoeker Anik de Groof van ESA vertelt vanuit Amerika hoe het er nu voorstaat, wat ze precies gaan meten en hoe de satelliet in twee jaar naar zijn plek onder (en boven) de zon zal reizen.

Muy pronto forma su primer proyecto musical, Ballet Mecánico junto a Groof y Daniel Erbe. Fuertemente influenciado por el pop sintético en sus comienzos, su sonido se mueve pronto hacia nuevos y oscuros territorios tras el descubrimiento de Front 242 y Nitzer Ebb, desplazándose poco después hacia los primeros sonidos Rave de la mano del álbum Frequencies de LFO o el Yellow Album de Orbital, interesándose también por el sonido proveniente de las primeras recopilaciones del sonido Detroit editadas en Gran Bretaña por el sello Network, Bio Rhythm o Retro Techno entre otras. El proyecto Ballet Mecánico durará hasta 1994, dejando como legado dos vinilos editados, muchas actuaciones en directo y varias maquetas de culto. 1995 será el año del inicio de su carrera en solitario como Hd Substance, editando el tema Past Line en el recopilatorio Electronic Generators en el sello Geometrik, etiqueta de culto propiedad de Esplendor Geométrico, una colección imprescindible para entender los comienzos de la electrónica en nuestro país, con artistas como, The Frogmen, Madelman, Alex Martín, Resonic o Jumo ( actuales organizadores del festival Sonar ). Muy pronto forma su primer proyecto musical, Ballet Mecánico junto a Groof y Daniel Erbe. Fuertemente influenciado por el pop sintético en sus comienzos, su sonido se mueve pronto hacia nuevos y oscuros territorios tras el descubrimiento de Front 242 y Nitzer Ebb, desplazándose poco después hacia los primeros sonidos Rave de la mano del álbum Frequencies de LFO o el Yellow Album de Orbital, interesándose también por el sonido proveniente de las primeras recopilaciones del sonido Detroit editadas en Gran Bretaña por el sello Network, Bio Rhythm o Retro Techno entre otras. El proyecto Ballet Mecánico durará hasta 1994, dejando como legado dos vinilos editados, muchas actuaciones en directo y varias maquetas de culto. 1995 será el año del inicio de su carrera en solitario como Hd Substance, editando el tema Past Line en el recopilatorio Electronic Generators en el sello Geometrik, etiqueta de culto propiedad de Esplendor Geométrico, una colección imprescindible para entender los comienzos de la electrónica en nuestro país, con artistas como, The Frogmen, Madelman, Alex Martín, Resonic o Jumo ( actuales organizadores del festival Sonar ). Un año después ve la luz su primer álbum completo, Eleven, el sello también de culto Elefant Records y se realiza su primera actuación en Sonar 1996. 2014 tras más de veinte años formando parte activa de la escena electrónica mundial más de 30 Ep's editados en sellos de todo el mundo, seis álbumes y actuaciones en los cinco continentes, Hd Substance permanece como figura de referencia de la escena techno española, desde todos los frentes, creando, pinchando y escribiendo sobre música electrónica en todo su abanico estilístico, una vida entera dedicada por y para la música. www.facebook.com/hdsubstance

Tyler Smith (aka Black Smith Craft) - (Audiocrash, UTCH, Limetree, Digital distorsions)France Techno unsung hero and veteran Tyler Smith, producer and DJ from northern France, has built a global reputation over the last 15 years for his diverse releases and energetic radio and live shows. Even if his appearances on scene were rare, he played in some of the most respected clubs and festivals across Europe since the late 2000's under his aliases Tyler Smith and Black Smith Craft : Detatched in Leeds, Reverb parties in London, Trust party at Queen's day in Amsterdam and more recently at Resonance in Birmingham in 2012. 
True activist and altruist minded dude, Tyler has built his reputation on his continued effort to promote a wide range of new stuff and artists related to Detroit to Birmingham inspired stuff, mostly thanks to his huge responsibilities on FM and web radios from 2007 to now. 
His dj sets has been spotlighted by lots of podcast owners past years for his never failing track selection and skill at decks. In real life, Tyler is your neighbour, your colleague at work, your best friend or the dude walking behind you in the street… No distinctive signs (underground undercover).
