Delivered by Father Peter Tukan, SDB from Salesian Don Bosco Gerak Boleng in Labuan Bajo, Diocese of Ruteng, Indonesia. Isaiah 25: 6-10a; Rs psalm 23: 1-3a.3b-4.5.6; Matthew 15: 29-37 THE PROMISE OF THE HEAVENLY BANQUET The theme for our meditation today is: The Promise of the Heavenly Banquet. After following the meditation yesterday about our universal yearning to see God as He really is, there was one comment posted on the social media wall that sounds like this: "When we will actually see God as He is, what will happen to us? Our today's two readings agree to answer this question. When we can already see the Lord as He is, we will have a precious opportunity to enjoy the heavenly banquet, which according to the book of Isaiah in the first reading, would be the best meal that surpasses all types of meal in the world including the bread multiplied by Jesus during the moment of feeding thousands of people in the desert. The reading adds that all those who enjoy the meal will be filled with extraordinary joy because there will be no more sadness, pain and suffering, crying, and yearning. We believe in the unbroken relationship between the life on earth and the eternal life in heaven. We are taught to keep this relationship alive and fresh by entering through a small door and then enjoying the immense space available to all who are enriched with the gift of salvation. We understand this as a journey of carrying the cross and this same cross will become for us the bridge that brings us to the other side to enjoy the eternity. Based on this understanding, we need to hold in our minds that the fellowship we build among brothers, friends, family and others in the world will reach its perfection in heaven. We can put this on an equal perception when we on this earth are full after taking a good meal, when there is a sense of satisfaction, when our need for food and drink is fulfilled, our mental and physical health confirmed, our feeling of security and comfort realized, our right for social justice respected. These all are signs of salvation on earth. We willexperience and taste the fulfilment of these kinds that we yearn their perfect manifestations in heaven. This means that we have a noble duty on this world to create a temporary type of heaven. This is not like someone get drunk because of alcohol or drugs or any other lust for the world's influences. The world's version of heaven is to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, namely serving one another, relieving the burden of pain and suffering, living in the light and way of God, being good example and living up to Christian virtues. The desire for the heavenly banquet is not a very unreachable promise which can tire us out of thinking or imagining. That promise is being made real, because in this world we are always trying to make it happen by creating a quality of life that fits our human standard yet remains under the guidance of faith. Each of us can do this with people who are near to us. Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen our faith in our efforts to create a worthy life and our hope for an eternal banquet in heaven. Help us to make it happen here and now. Hail Mary full of grace ... In our gospel lesson for today, Jesus invites us to a dinner party that probably looked sort of similar to that. Spices piled high, colors and rosewater tea, spiced meats and heaping piles of baklava. We're invited to imagine ourselves there. In the first part of the lesson, as a guest. And in the second half, as the host. In each instance Jesus giving us direction by parable of how we ought to behave at a wedding feast, at a dinner party. If you're just catching on, wedding feast is gospel code for the heavenly banquet. As guests in the parable, we are told to take a seat at the lowest place. If you've been to big family gatherings at Thanksgiving, this spot is marked: Kids Table. That's the spot for you. Where it's loud and messy. And you're likely to have something thrown at you or spilled all over you. We are not, as Jesus says, to take our place and the head of the table. This is the spot right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy. That's not our spot, Jesus says. Unless we are invited to sit there. It would be pretty bad if you went and sat at the head of the table and then were asked to go over and sit by that weird Jello pudding thing that Aunt Mildred brought. Because then you feel ashamed and disgraced. In the first part of this parable, we are there as the guests. And Jesus says to us, know your place. And assume when you arrive that you are seated below the salt, as they say.

Rethinking Scripture Podcast - Episode 27: The Restoration of Peter - Pt. 2 (John 21)December 16, 2021 - Host: Dr. Gregory Hall At the end of John's gospel there's a funny little sentence that suggests that the world could not contain the books that could be written about the many other things which Jesus did. I've always taken that as a bit of an exaggeration… but what if its not? What If we've misunderstood what John was trying to say?John chapter 21 is all about restoration. The disciples limped their way through events in the garden of Gethsemane and then disbursed and deflected their connection with Jesus through the rest of that weekend. This would have left all of them, but especially Peter, with some traumatic wounds that needed to be healed. That's what we see Jesus doing here… healing the broken hearted. “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb” (Revelation 19:9a)! An invitation to a banquet is an exciting prospect and we anticipate it with much expectation. We begin thinking of the clothes we will wear; the delicious food we will have put before us; and the special guests we will see and hear. The Heavenly Banquet is a devotion on Christian living, comfort, and hope, by Ladell McWhirter, originally published by LWML. This devotion is also available for as a free downloadable PDF at www.lwml.org/posts/devotion/the-heavenly-banquet.

Acting on the Word as we hear the Word of God is for all people! For all belong to the Lord! Today, we listen, in Lectio Divina to the Holy "Visit of the Shepherds", as the shepherds that we in the nearby fields to the manger were visited by the Angel of the Lord, accompanied by the Heavenly Host, who all sang, "Glory to God in the Highest!" Mary reflected as the shepherds proclaimed what had been told to them by the Angel of the Lord, as this proclamation is for ALL in the world! Jesus came for EVERYONE! All can come to adore Him, in Holy Adoration, in every Catholic Mass, and as we do, let's ALL praise the Heavenly Lord, "GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!" with every Angel, every Saint, and even the Holy Family of the Lord! Bring all intentions to Jesus our Lord for every matter, for every person and for all in the world! As we lift our hearts to the Lord, the Lord is always welcoming, listening, and it is the LORD who welcomes us all to Him! Jesus wants us always to come before Him, trusting in the Lord and placing all matters into His Loving and Sacred Heart, we pray for all in the world! Bring your own intentions always; as we lift our hearts as one family into His Loving and Sacred and Most High Healing Heart- the Sacred Heart of the Lord! With a special invitation to not only pray unceasingly, but all are invited to answer the Glorious Call of the Lord in coming to His Mass, to Baptism and to answer the Call to His Heavenly Feast that is always transubstantiated in every Catholic Mass! Invitation for all is from the Lord, as I have received this in the Holy Presence of The Lord for all!

Ephesians series message 1Text: Ephesians 1:1-2And so we begin our journey through Paul's epistle to the Ephesian church. He begins with a note of praise, summoning us to the soaring heights of God's grace and showing us the unalterable and glorious destiny of every single believer. On Sunday we'll set the stage for this incredible letter and ponder the rich truth contained in the opening lines.
23 June 2019 The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ Luke 11B-17 + Homily 15 Minutes 32 Seconds Link to the Readings: http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/062319.cfm (New American Bible, Revised Edition) From the parish bulletin: Jacques Pantaléon was an unlikely candidate for the papacy, being neither a cardinal nor Italian, since he was the son of a French cobbler. Nonetheless he became Pope Urban IV after having acquitted himself well as Patriarch of Jerusalem. His attentions also involved him in concerns from Constantinople to Germany and Denmark. Two months before his death in 1264, he commissioned Saint Thomas Aquinas to write hymns for a new feast honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. There used to be many hymnodic “Sequences,” but over the years they were trimmed down to Easter and Pentecost and, later, Corpus Christi. Although Aquinas had written so sublimely about the Real Presence, Urban wanted song more than prose. Thus we have Pange Lingua, Tantum Ergo, Panis Angelicus, and O Salutaris Hostia. As they have endured nearly nine centuries so far, they are likely to outlast the musical kitsch that guitar-strumming grey heads of a dying Woodstock generation persist in thinking are the heraldic sounds of a New Age. Unlike the works of those more recent composers, whose absent Latin and poor English only serve to express a low Eucharistic theology, the classical hymnody of Aquinas can best be sung in the original and, if sung in translation, needs translators who are accomplished Latinists and masters of English. Two Anglican converts of the nineteenth century, Edward Caswall and Gerard Manley Hopkins, qualified for that. The ineffable mystery of the Blessed Sacrament will always be prey to minds smaller than the Doctors of the Church, as they try to reduce mystery to mere human puzzle whose pieces can be arranged according to limited human intelligence. Even in Pope Urban’s age, which by many standards of architecture and scholarship was golden, confusion about the Real Presence in the Mass was spreading. One priest, Father Peter of Prague, while en route to Rome was granted what the Church considers a miracle: blood emanating from the Host. Pope Urban was in nearby Orvieto and sent delegates to inspect the phenomenon. The Feast of Corpus Christi soon followed. At the last Supper, our Lord did not subject his apostles to a lecture on how he could give them his Body to eat and Blood to drink. He simply commanded, “Do this.” This is not to deny the vocation of theologians ever since to describe the Heavenly Banquet, but the best of them have known the difference between apprehending and comprehending. “Faith for all defects supplying, Where the feeble senses fail.” A Baptist hymn writer in the nineteenth century, Robert Lowry, would certainly have been a bit uncomfortable in the presence of the Dominican master Thomas Aquinas, but one suspects that the Angelic Doctor would have fully empathized with the confidence of Lowry’s hymn: The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart, A fountain ever springing; All things are mine since I am his— How can I keep from singing?
