She had always loved learning about the human body, especially how to keep the body healthy. However, as a medical student, she felt as if something was missing. Episode Three, Season Ten of the Thoth-Hermes podcast explores facets of Higher Worlds and the Anthroposophical traditiom. Today, Rudolf meets with Thomas Mayer, Anthroposophical teacher, author and direct democracy activist. In Thomas's words, “you will meet the people you want to meet” which is an ongoing theme in this conversation. Thomas “met” Rudolf Steiner at the age of 15, reading “How to Know Higher Worlds”; 44 years later, he is an Anthroposophical meditation teacher, with his partner Agnes Hardorp. Thomas recently published “Answering the Call of the Elementals” which is intended as a lively workbook to intentionally strengthen a practitioner's connection to those Beings. In their discussion, Thomas and Rudolf explore the path of supersensible perceptual development. Steiner's work incorporated and influenced many aspects of esotericism; its wide-ranging impact is felt in the breadth of the interview. Topics range from the theme of the “I”/”Ich”, to organic architecture, to the Akashic records, to shadow work and the neutralization of the binary. The term “geisteswissenschaft” (“Spiritual Science”) is referenced and defined. Thomas describes the range of viewpoint diversity even within the Goetheanum as an institution, finding both more “intellectual” (scholarly, academic) thinkers and “spiritual” experiential artists. Solitary and group egregore work are weighed, with acknowledgement of their necessary coincidence. Rudolf and Thomas both note the bolster of healthy counterbalance that individual and cooperative esoteric work can provide. Thomas recommends several foundational Steiner texts for listeners, including “The Theosophy of the Rosicrucians”. Rudolf notes that many Steiner writings are available in English, at no cost, online. Thomas enters more specifically into the ideas of the Aether plane and defines the concept of the “Elementals”. Thomas carefully notes the Anthroposophical belief that supersensible perception is available to all humans, but must be actively and personally developed. He reminds us that this is also In the context of mutual interest: that the Elementals seek human interaction as much (or more) as we seek them. The capacities by which we can gain insights into higher worlds lie dormant within each one of us. Mystics, gnostics, and theosophists have always spoken of a world of soul and spirit that is as real to them as the world we can see with our eyes and touch with our hands. Listening to them, we can say to ourselves at every moment: "I know that I, too, can experience what they talk about, if only I unfold certain forces within me that today still lie dormant there." All we need to know is how to begin to develop these faculties for ourselves. Only those who have already developed such powers for themselves can help us to do this. From the beginning of the human race, a form of schooling has always existed in which persons possessing higher faculties guide those who seek to develop these faculties for themselves. Such schooling is called esoteric or mystery schooling; and the instruction one receives there is called esoteric or occult teaching. By their very nature, these terms invite misunderstanding. Hearing them, we might easily be led to believe that those who provide this kind of schooling wish to form a privileged class of human beings who arbitrarily withhold their knowledge from their fellows. We might even think that perhaps there is nothing much to this kind of knowledge. edge. Were it genuine knowledge, we are tempted to think, there would be no need to make a secret of it; it could be made public and its benefits shared by all. We will not find the inner strength to evolve to a higher level if we do not inwardly develop this profound feeling that there is something higher than ourselves. Initiates tiates found the strength to lift themselves to the heights of knowledge only because they first guided their hearts into the depths of veneration and devotion. Only a person who has passed through the gate of humility can ascend to the heights of the spirit. To attain true knowledge, you must first learn to respect this knowledge. We certainly have the right to turn our eyes toward the light, but we must earn this right. Spiritual life has its laws just as physical life does. Rub a glass rod with the appropriate substance and it becomes electrified-that is, the glass rod will now have the power to attract small particles. ticles. This process demonstrates a physical law. If one has learned some elementary physics, one knows that this is so. Sir George Lowthian Trevelyan, 4th Baronet (5 November 1906 – 9 February 1996) was a British educational pioneer and a founding father of the New Age movement. In 1942, after listening to a lecture by Dr Walter Stein, a student of Rudolf Steiner, he transitioned from being agnostic to a new age spiritual thinker, and even studied anthroposophy in the coming years. In the last 15 years of his life he was the focus of many lecture tours and meetings. He also wrote numerous books, including A Vision of the Aquarian Age (1977), Operation Redemption (1981), Summons to a High Crusade (1985) and finally Exploration into God (1991). He was awarded the Right Livelihood Award in 1982 for "educating the adult spirit to a new non-materialistic vision of human nature." THERE IS AN intimate and inner relation between a higher world of living thought and being, and its expression in the realm of physical appearance. We are ‘alive' now, in the visible, tangible world. We live in a body in which intelligence and intellect can manifest, using the five senses for experience and interpretation. With the over-development of the left hemisphere of the brain and its intellectual faculties in the last few centuries, we have clearly lost much of the faculties of the right brain, the more sensitive, poetic, visionary powers that can apprehend the super-sensible worlds. We have established beyond doubt that the Higher Worlds are a reality and that they can be explored. Indeed this is one of the great adventures of our age. Furthermore, in the light of global changes indicated from the turn of the century, the bridge of contact will become vitally important. Channelling is a bridging between our normal consciousness and the ‘higher worlds'. The fact that this field can be open to deception and misunderstanding does not mean that it is invalid to work for this inner contact between the planes of being. Indeed, it must be achieved. We are prisoners in a concentration camp. We have descended into the world of matter, captured there and cut off from all contact with our original home and sphere of activity. Many have come to feel that there is no other plane but that of matter and that it is the primary reality. Now continuous signals are coming through to us that such a world of light does indeed exist and that we can escape and find our way back to it. Now, the prison camp is the time-and-matter-bound life. We are caught by past and future – regrets, remorse, guilt, disappointment, sense of opportunities missed or bungled in the past. We are filled with fears about the future. The forces of darkness want just that. So long as our thinking is tied down to past and future, they have got us. The prison door is this immediate NOW. Push it and walk through. But obviously the now is always moving on. It is the point where God's presence is contacted. It is the intersection point of the timeless with time. But the only way to move through it is to abandon self and lower ego, with its ties and desires. These must be jettisoned. You can only travel very light – into lightness.
