Welcome back to Higher Density Living! In this captivating fourth (or fifth!) episode, co-host Jason Rigby is joined once again by the brilliant Dr. Eric Cunningham, a Professor of Philosophy at Gonzaga University and an expert in modern Japanese intellectual history, Zen Buddhism, Catholicism, psychedelia, and eschatology. Together, they dive deep into the mysterious world of secret societies through the lens of Rudolf Steiner's profound teachings—a topic that bridges the physical and spiritual realms like never before.   Dr. Cunningham, a former naval officer turned academic, shares his fascinating journey into Steiner's esoteric philosophy, sparked in 1989 by a friend who introduced him to Knowledge of the Higher Worlds and Its Attainment. What followed was a decades-long exploration of Steiner's vast body of work—over 70 books and hundreds of lectures—that seamlessly connects spirituality, history, and human evolution. As a practicing Catholic with a passion for Zen Buddhism and Asian mysticism, Cunningham brings a unique perspective to Steiner's ideas, blending rigorous scholarship with metaphysical insight.   In this episode, we explore Steiner's views on secret societies—described as “lines of connection” between the material and spiritual worlds. From the Rosicrucians' pursuit of conscious immortality to the Illuminati's entanglement with Ahrimanic (materialistic) forces, Cunningham unpacks the distinction between societies seeking esoteric wisdom and those chasing temporal power. Steiner's cosmic framework reveals a timeless struggle between “left-hand” and “right-hand” brotherhoods—rebellious spirits resisting divine evolution versus those embracing self-sacrificial love.   We journey through history, examining how spiritual impulses, not just material causes, shaped events like the Renaissance and Industrial Age. Steiner's radical perspective challenges conventional narratives, suggesting that the modern world's obsession with “fitness over truth” (as echoed by Donald Hoffman) reflects the triumph of Ahrimanic forces. Cunningham also delves into the 19th-century esoteric revival—Freemasonry's expansion, the Golden Dawn, and the OTO—connecting these movements to Steiner's fifth post-Atlantean epoch and the karmic shifts of industrialization.   The conversation takes a dark turn as we confront the Nazis' suppression of esoteric groups like Steiner's Anthroposophical Society, alongside their own occult obsessions (think Thule Society and Maria Orsic). Were these crackdowns a karmic backlash against Ahrimanic tendencies? And how do they tie into modern conspiracies like Operation Paperclip and the rise of technocrats like Wernher von Braun?   Fast forward to 2025: Cunningham speculates on what Steiner would see in today's world—AI, media consolidation, and geopolitical tension. Is artificial intelligence the ultimate Ahrimanic threat, stripping humanity of its capacity for independent thought? Or can we resist by cultivating “enthusiastic attentiveness” and piercing the hidden power structures Steiner warned about?   Plus, get a sneak peek into Cunningham's book, The Luciferic Verses: The Daodejing and the Chinese Roots of Esoteric History (available now on Amazon—link in the show notes!). This groundbreaking work explores Luciferic influences, Chinese mysticism, and even dragons—yes, dragons!—across cultures. Jason also teases an upcoming episode on tarot and Aleister Crowley, inspired by his personal dive into the Waite deck.   Timestamps: 00:00 – Intro: Secret Societies and Rudolf Steiner 02:34 – Dr. Eric Cunningham's Journey into Steiner's World 05:20 – Defining Secret Societies: Esoteric Wisdom vs. Temporal Power 08:25 – Steiner's Take on Rosicrucians, Illuminati, and Historical Forces 13:00 – Freemasonry's Role in the 19th Century and Beyond 18:05 – The Dark Side: Death, Control, and Ahrimanic Brotherhoods 23:17 – Golden Dawn, OTO, and Aleister Crowley's Hollywood Legacy 28:22 – Nazis, Thule Society, and Steiner's Persecution 35:15 – Modern Elites, AI, and the Ahrimanic Shadow 49:35 – Reincarnation and Secret Societies' Spiritual Manipulation 51:04 – Steiner in 2025: The Greatest Threat to Humanity 56:12 – Closing Thoughts: Get The Luciferic Verses Now!   Support Dr. Cunningham:   Grab his book, The Luciferic Verses: The Daodejing and the Chinese Roots of Esoteric History, on Amazon. Stuart Hameroff MD is Professor of Anesthesiology and Psychology, and Director of the Center for Consciousness Studies at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Hameroff became interested in intelligent behavior of microtubules, protein lattices which organize activities within living cells. Hameroff and colleagues developed theories of microtubules as self-organizing molecular computers. In the 1990s Hameroff teamed with Sir Roger Penrose on the controversial Penrose-Hameroff "Orch OR" model of consciousness based on quantum computing in brain neuronal microtubules, a notion bolstered by recent evidence. Hameroff also organizes the biennial interdisciplinary conferences, The Science of Consciousness Conference. The Science of Consciousness (‘TSC') conference is the world's longest running inter-disciplinary gathering on the study of consciousness, the nature of existence, and our place in the universe. In 2025 TSC will be in Barcelona, Spain, July 6-11 (Workshops, Plenaries, Concurrents, Exhibits, Demos, Social, Poetry Slam, Dancing - AC Marriott Forum Hotel), preceding and in conjunction with The Festival of Consciousness, July 11-13 (Music, Art, Experiential, Inspiration, Spirituality, Education, Business, Evolution). Happy New Year 2025! To celebrate, here is an encore of what proved to be the most popular episode of 2024. This rerun combines episodes 30 and 31 into one epic journey towards the frontiers of human understanding. My guest is Donald Hoffman. Our topics are consciousness, cosmos, and the meaning of life. Enjoy! Original show notes Laws of physics govern the world. They explain the movements of planets, oceans, and cells in our bodies. But can they ever explain the feelings and meanings of our mental lives? This problem, called the hard problem of consciousness, runs very deep. No satisfactory explanation exists. But many think that there must, in principle, be an explanation. A minority of thinkers disagree. According to these thinkers, we will never be able to explain mind in terms of matter. We will, instead, explain matter in terms of mind. I explored this position in some detail in episode 17. But hold on, you might say. Is this not contradicted by the success of natural sciences? How could a mind-first philosophy ever explain the success of particle physics? Or more generally, wouldn't any scientist laugh at the idea that mind is more fundamental than matter? No — not all of them laugh. Some take it very seriously. Donald Hoffman is one such scientist. Originally working with computer vision at MIT's famous Artificial Intelligence Lab, Hoffman started asking a simple question: What does it mean to "see" the world? His answer begins from a simple idea: perception simplifies the world – a lot. But what is the real world like? What is “there” before our perception simplifies the world? Nothing familiar, Hoffman claims. No matter. No objects. Not even a three-dimensional space. And no time. There is just consciousness. This is a wild idea. But it is a surprisingly precise idea. It is so precise, in fact, that Hoffman's team can derive basic findings in particle physics from their theory.  A fascinating conversation was guaranteed. I hope you enjoy it. Donald Hoffman, Cognitive Psychologist and Science Author, has proposed a theory of consciousness that challenges your everyday assumptions about what reality is. His argument is that our perceptions of cause and effect and what we experience in the physical world isn't as real as you'd like to think. The metaphor of the virtual headset he uses in these conversations with Tom explains why our experiences are limited and there are things like freewill that we never truly experience. If that's not heavy enough for you, Hoffman bring mathematical equations into the picture to explain that all consciousness is mathematically structured. This episode is a complete crash course into the world of Donald Hoffman and the illusion of space, time and reality. Some areas you'll hear explored in this episode include: Is Cause and effect real? The God hypothesis and consciousness Why your reality isn't real The Truth behind consciousness How evolution hides the matrix (and what's the red pill) Testing reality & spacetime Can you actually escape the matrix? Do you think it's possible life is a simulation and we're in some version of a virtual reality headset? On this episode of Conversations with Tom, Donald Hoffman and Tom Bilyeu discuss the fascinating possibilities that stem from the theory that evolution gave us the equivalent of a desktop interface that hides the real truth from us so that we can take effective action. They discuss the nature of consciousness, free will, space-time, causality and the self. [Original air date: 5-28-20]. SHOW NOTES: Most of us believe that we see reality as it is. But we don't. [1:14] Donald describes how mathematical game theory explains natural selection [3:42] Donald talks about a game he created to simulate evolution [9:33] Seeing the truth and seeing what you need to survive are very different things [13:51] Evolution gave us the equivalent of a desktop interface, not the truth [18:11] Every creature has a different user interface and perceives a different reality [24:57] If we let go of logic and reasoning, then we have nothing left [32:10] There will always be unprovable truths. You can never know it all. [35:14] Donald describes the process by which you “see” an apple [42:05] Evolution tells us that the language of space and time does not describe reality [47:53] Donald proposes that reality is a vast social network of conscious agents [49:39] A conscious agent creates their interpretation from their experiences [53:32] What is consciousness? [57:12] What does a conscious agent need to do? [1:00:49] Donald and Tom discuss fascinating cases of split-brain patients [1:08:13] If space-time is doomed then is causality doomed as well? [1:22:17] Donald discusses free will and its relationship to cause and effect [1:28:01] The self is a construction just like space and time [1:30:27] You can never experience yourself choosing [1:39:15] Donald describes the experience of realizing that he is just inside a VR headset [1:40:01] What's the difference between math all the way down and turtles all the way down? [1:50:25] Tom and Donald discuss the double-slit experiment in physics [1:56:18] Donald talks about his wife and his marriage [2:01:49] Donald and Tom discuss the possibility of taking off the headset [2:03:10] Donald and Tom discuss why they haven't used psychedelics [2:07:10] Since space-time is doomed, what's next? Donald Hoffman is back on Know Thyself today to explore the constraints of time and space, and how they shape our understanding of the world around us. He discusses the "headset analogy" - the idea that our senses act as a kind of cognitive filter, preventing us from directly perceiving the true nature of reality. Donald delves into the paradoxes found in various mathematical theorems, and his newest research on "conscious agents" and how it relates to the Gaia hypothesis. The significance of mystical experiences and their potential to reveal truths about the nature of reality is also covered. Hoffman also opens up about his thoughts on reincarnation, the relationship between science and spirituality, and the possibility of artificial intelligence becoming truly conscious. In the first half, novelist, playwright, and marketing executive Penelope Holt shared her research on angels, reincarnation, and the metaphysical. Her exploration of the 1999 discovery of the 'Angel Scroll,' an alleged Dead Sea scroll that described a tour of heaven, along with apocalyptic imagery, sparked a sense of wonder and curiosity. Despite the Angel Scroll being more or less debunked, its ideas stimulated her interest in studying the ancient sect known as the Essenes, who lived near the Dead Sea, and the theory that Jesus was one of them. She noted that the Essenes were influenced by Egyptian mysteries and Hinduism and were oriented toward anti-violence. Some scholars claim that in Jesus' 'lost years,' he traveled to India, studied Buddhism, and believed in reincarnation. She also traced how the pagan Druids in England merged some of their ideas with the gospel of Jesus into an early form of Celtic Christianity after the biblical figure, Joseph of Arimathea, was said to visit post-crucifixion. On the possibility of an angelic realm, she related this to the work of philosopher and scientist Bernardo Kastrup, and physicist Donald Hoffman, who suggest that the nature of the universe is consciousness itself, and that our reality arises in consciousness. Holt believes that people who have expanded consciousness or perceptions may see angels or aliens who could inhabit a realm where there is no time-space or, past or future.--------------Susanne J. Wilson, known as the Carefree Medium, is an educator, spiritual teacher, and medium whose abilities have undergone scientific study and validation. In the latter half, she discussed what she has learned about the afterlife and the phases the soul goes through on the Other Side. Where we go when we pass over "seems to be dependent upon our thoughts, words, and actions while we were in our bodies here on Earth," she remarked, adding that Swedenborg, in his book "Heaven and Hell," wrote about how souls are kind of automatically transported by their energy to where they belong on the Other Side. While Wilson does not believe in a hell per se, she noted that there is evidence certain deceased individuals might self-create their own version of that.Further, she continued, various deep trance and direct voice mediums, such as Leslie Flint, have suggested that heaven is more real than our existence here. In a sense, she said, we are living in a dream now, and we wake up when we die. Wilson, who works with spirit guides, said she sometimes refers to them as interdimensional allies. "I think that we have all kinds of friends and intelligent non-humans in the unseen world on standby, helping us," she said. While illness or pain leading up to one's demise can be awful, death itself is an ecstatic experience, she mused, and we need not fear being judged in the afterworld. "There's no fire and brimstone, no judgment, just an opportunity to review your life," she revealed. During the last hour, she offered readings to callers.

It's pretty normal that you think of reality being the world around us, the tangible things you see and interact with. You probably even include and make space for how your emotions influence perception and tie that into what creates your reality. Donald Hoffman is joining Tom for another mind-bending episode to challenge if we're actually living in a false reality. Donald Hoffman is a cognitive scientist that has argued against reality and the limitations of spacetime. Some questions being posed in this episode that will stretch your beyond your limits are: -What is beyond spacetime? -What is the true structure of objective reality? -Is it possible evolution has shaped us in a way that guides our behaviors and therefore how we see objective reality? -His idea of comparing our current reality to that of living in a virtual headset is being taken to the next few levels up and exploring the strategies we use to survive the game of life. Joel Bouchard will discuss the topic of getting in the flow with me today. Joel Bouchard is a doctoral student in psychology at Liberty University in Virginia, a multi-instrumentalist record producer, author, painter, Army veteran, business leader, local government official, and host of the philosophy podcast From Nowhere to Nothing. His podcast explores complex themes such as the messy, misapplied, and contradictive nature of tribalism, commitment as a concept through ontological and ethical paradigms, and the life-encompassing yet nuanced concept of work. Joel's diverse background includes discussions on shadow from the perspectives of physics, mythology, psychology, and cultural tradition, as well as debates on substantivalism and relationalism in defining locations. His intellectual curiosity extends to examining Donald Hoffman's ideas on reality and consciousness from “The Case Against Reality,” and exploring metaphysical, epistemological, and ontological aspects of consciousness through documentary scenes. Joel also engages in abstract discussions on the ontological impact of the present and delves into the past from both metaphysical and historical perspectives. His multifaceted experiences and deep philosophical inquiries make him a dynamic and insightful voice in contemporary philosophical discourse. Listen & Subscribe on: iTunes / Stitcher / Podbean / Overcast / Spotify Contact Info Website: https://jbouchard.podbean.com/ Most Influential Person My mom Effect On Emotions I would say that I've become better at expressing my emotions. My friends refer to me as the robot because I generally tend to be pretty unemotional. And, you know, that's good. It's good to be even-keeled, but it can also be negative if you freeze or shut down when in negative circumstances. So, the biggest impact for me is that it's helped me express happiness and joy and also to be able to identify with emotions without getting caught up in them without being angry. I can identify that this is an angry emotion and a justified emotion. Then I can decide how I should act with this information. Thoughts On Breathing As someone who's pretty new to meditation, breathing is something that I still struggle with a little bit. They tell you that you're not supposed to breathe loud, but I always find myself breathing loud because I'm using that to focus my attention. In Zen meditation, this is a subject of controversy. Some Zen masters say you can count your breaths, while others say don't. So I mix the two. You know, for the first 10, I count the in-breath and the out-breath, one, two, and then for the next 10, I only count the out-breath. So in one in two, then after that, I go to not counting. But I find myself still breathing very deeply. I think it helps with relaxation and focus. Sometimes, it can steal attention away from the internal focus on what's happening in the mind. Bullying Story I believe bullying is a problem rooted in a lack of mindfulness on the bully's part. I have a story about being mindful from the other side. During my time in the army, we had an exercise in basic training where we used pugil sticks, like on American Gladiators, to fight each other. The drill sergeant insisted everyone participate, but I didn't volunteer because I didn't want to fight. At the end, the drill sergeant singled me out to fight the biggest guy, nicknamed the Widowmaker, who was six foot five and 280 pounds. Though I didn't want to fight, I had been mindful and observed the fights closely. When it was my turn, I pretended to cower, turned to the side, and ducked down. As he came close, I jammed the end of my stick into his helmet, causing him to fall. I won the fight. This experience taught me that mindfulness can help you navigate difficult situations, even when facing a bigger, more imposing opponent. The Beginners Guide to Rudolf Steiner: Part 1 with Eric Cunningham

Welcome back to Higher  Density Living. In this episode, Alexander and Jason discuss the essence of meditation. Rudolf Steiner is well known as a proponent of the 'Anthropos'—the wisdom of the human being. Steiner's philosophy seeks to merge the spiritual understanding of humanity with cosmic laws, positioning humans as central to the cosmos's purpose. This perspective challenges modern materialistic and environmental narratives that view human existence as a problem to be managed rather than an integral part of the cosmic order.   In this regard we are rejoined by special guest, Dr. Eric Cunningham, Ph.D., a Professor of Philosophy at Gonzaga University. His academic background includes a Master's degree in modern Japanese literature and a Ph.D. in history, both from the University of Oregon. Cunningham specializes in modern Japanese intellectual history and has research interests in Zen Buddhism, Catholicism, psychedelia, and eschatology. He is also the author of "Zen Past and Present" (2011) and is known for his work in combining traditional scholarly research with more esoteric and philosophical subjects.   Rudolf Steiner was an influential thinker whose ideas spanned a wide range of disciplines, including education, agriculture, and the arts. Born in 1861 in what is now Croatia and later moving to Austria, Steiner initially made his mark as a literary scholar and philosopher, particularly noted for his work on Goethe's scientific writings. However, he is most famously known for developing the spiritual movement known as Anthroposophy, in his book How to Know Higher Worlds: A Modern Path of Initiation which he described as a form of "spiritual science." Rudolf Steiner's prolific image and his significant influence during the early 20th century form profound engagement in spiritual discourse of the human experience. Steiner's perspectives offered an alternative vision to the materialistic tendencies of his time, emphasizing spiritual science and the development of human consciousness.   His concept of Meta History encompasses a pivotal event in 79, where he posits a fundamental battle between angelic hierarchies, notably involving Lucifer and St. Michael the archangel. This event, drawn from ancient mythologies like the book of Genesis, is situated within secular history, marking the descent of fallen spirits to earth. Interestingly, this aligns with a vision Pope Leo XIII had about demons being cast down to hell during a war.   Steiner's narrative intersects with mainstream religiosity, particularly Catholicism, albeit from a mystical perspective. He contends that the unleashing of demons in 79 ushered in a uniquely strange era, symbolized by the end of the Kali Yuga, a dark age in Hindu cosmology. According to Steiner, humanity has reached its nadir and is now poised for spiritual ascent, returning to unity and evolution.   Steiner's significance lies in his presence during key historical junctures, such as industrialization and World War I, and his recognition of the transformative shift post-World War I. He perceives the 1920s as a period of profound change, diverging from the ideals of the Enlightenment and Renaissance into a darker, more twisted reality. Steiner serves as a guide for humanity towards spiritual evolution and unity.   This discussion ties into broader historical contexts, particularly World War I, which Steiner perceived not merely as a terrestrial conflict but as a reflection of cosmic battles, drawing upon the hermetic principle "as above, so below." He viewed these tumultuous times as the manifestation of spiritual warfare, with implications that stretched beyond the immediate horrors of the battlefield. Steiner suggested that the souls of the fallen soldiers participated in larger spiritual struggles, contributing to the ongoing battle between spiritual light and darkness.   Moreover, Steiner's academic background in mathematics, physics, and philosophy profoundly influenced his teachings. Educated in Vienna, his engagement with contemporary scientific theories, including relativity and emerging ideas related to quantum theory, allowed him to integrate these concepts with esoteric and spiritual insights. His dissertation on Fichte's concept of the self, completed in 1891, reflects his deep philosophical grounding, which he later expanded upon in his spiritual teachings.   Steiner's transition from a purely academic philosopher to a spiritual teacher began around 1899 when he published "The Philosophy of Freedom." This work marked a pivotal shift towards esotericism and laid the groundwork for his later Anthroposophical work, which seeks to synthesize spiritual knowledge with practical aspects of life, including education, agriculture, and medicine.   The term "festival of knowledge" which was highly influenced by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe laid the groundwork for Steiner's later academic achievements. These initial forays into literature, written before he even attained his PhD, primarily focused on Goethe's interplay with science, a theme that continued to resonate throughout his career.   The core of his scholarly work culminated in his dissertation, which later evolved into a book titled "The Philosophy of Freedom." This piece not only highlights his academic rigor but also showcases his deep dive into the realms of idealism and consciousness, themes that remain pivotal in contemporary philosophical debates. As we discussed previously, current theories of consciousness and idealism, such as those proposed by thinkers like Bernardo Kastrup and Donald Hoffman, often touch upon concepts similar to those he explored. They discuss the notion of a reality predominantly constituted by the mind, a perspective he had already articulated in the late 1800s using a different vocabulary, one that predated the advent of cybernetics.   Interestingly, his exploration wasn't confined to pure philosophy; it also embraced an emotive dimension, adding a richer, more holistic layer to his theoretical constructs. This emotional infusion was particularly evident during the period you mentioned, where his philosophical inquiries intertwined with a broader, more sentient approach to understanding human cognition and consciousness. This blend of technical philosophy and emotional insight exemplifies the depth of his "festival of knowledge," bridging the gap between rational thought and human experience.   He described as the crucifixion of Christ, which he termed the "mystery of Golgotha." He believed this event marked the turning point in cosmic history, signifying not just a theological or historical moment but a deep, transformative personal revelation. This wasn't a matter of philosophical debate for him; it was a visceral truth, deeply felt and integral to his understanding of reality. It was during this time that he synthesized a high-level logical comprehension of reality with a convicted, inner awareness of these cosmic truths. Unlike many philosophers who might purely engage in academic discourse, he integrated mystic visions and clairvoyance into his scientific and philosophical explorations.   Steiner was not originally a staunch member of the Theosophical Society; he became associated with it through his lectures to German aristocrats and wealthy patrons. His involvement seems to have been a strategic move to promote a formal integration of spirituality into modern life. However, as the society increasingly embraced Eastern philosophies under the influence of figures like Madame Blavatsky, Colonel Olcott, and Annie Besant, Steiner felt a disconnect. He believed that Western traditions were essential for Western people and advocated for a spiritual understanding that respected cultural roots rather than adopting Eastern identities. This belief, coupled with disagreements over promoting Jiddu Krishnamurti as a new messiah—a notion Steiner vehemently opposed—led to his departure from the society.   In addressing accusations of racism against Steiner, it's crucial to understand his use of the term "root race," which in his cosmology referred to stages of civilization development, such as Atlantis, rather than ethnicities. Steiner emphasized that race is a secondary characteristic and spoke of the spiritual importance of national and cultural identities in shaping individual destinies. This perspective suggests that while he recognized human diversity, he did not advocate for racial hierarchies.   Indeed, his unique approach led him to play a significant role in the Theosophical Society, becoming the general secretary of its German section in 1920. However, his strong Christian orientation and his focus on Western esoteric traditions eventually caused a rift within the society. His dedication to integrating science, spirituality, and art for the holistic development of humanity prompted him to found his own society.   By understanding the deep connections between our spiritual journey and the universe, we can foster a more holistic and sustainable approach to both personal growth and global challenges.   Discover more about Dr. Eric Cunningham ground breaking work on ancient wisdom by checking more about his latest best-selling book “The Luciferic Verses: The Daodejing and the Chinese Roots of Esoteric History ” and his  “Hallucinating the End of History: Nishida, Zen, And The Psychedelic Eschaton” available online and physical bookstores.   As always, Higher Density Living reserves no dogma because only the truth prevails in the universe. Julia Mossbridge is a scientist in the true sense of the word, a curious and open-minded investigator and seeker. She has balanced beautifully on the perceived border between traditional science and the esoteric realms. She has created two institutes, whereof one bears the intriguing name The Institute for Love and Time (TILT). It is about creating technologies that support wellbeing related to feeling unconditional love. How can love and time go together? “Both are powerful and healing to humans”, Julia says. On a deeper level, she explains, people experience that when the boundaries of time are removed, the conditions of connection are also removed, which opens the door to unconditional love. The way Julia describes the experience of time is somewhat at odds with the “live in the now” mantra. We can extend the self in time, she says. And by doing that we break down boundaries. “It gives you a lot more chances to do good for yourself and the world. It doesn't have to be all at once. We have all this time.” “Folks say you can't do anything about the past, and the future is all about potentialities, so you can only do something about it in the now. The reason this is so enticing is that we're built to experience free will. So that's how we're gonna make a lot of money on self-help books”, Julia laughs. “I think it's a racket. I think it makes people look for control rather than take responsibility.” In reality, we are not in control. Everything we experience has already happened. That has even been measured (the thought of doing something sudden arises after we've done it). “To even come close to being in control, we must extend the definition of ‘I'. To really be in control we must extend it indefinitely to include the whole universe and everything that has happened and everything that is going to happen.” The Iroquios have a word for this extension: the long body. Julia Mossbridge has done extensive research on precognition, the intuitive knowledge about a future event. She uses a metaphor: An event that triggers precognition is like a stick in the stream of consciousness. The stick creates a wake, which is the slowly fading memory of the event after it has happened. But on the front end it also creates an area where the “arrow of time” is reversed. “There's backpressure. The stream of consciousness ‘prepares' itself to go around the stick.”  Precognition most commonly appears in dreams. “The conscious mind is like our story of what is happening, but the unconscious mind really has access to all the incoming data from the universe”, Julia says. She agrees with psychology pioneer William James that the brain is like a filter. “When your brain is damaged, you're not changing consciousness, you're changing the capacity to receive it.” She is also in agreement with the theories of cognitive psychologist Donald Hoffman, who describes physical reality as an interface, where living beings are “conscious agents”. If we were to look “under the hood” (which may be what enlightenment entails), we would see a completely different reality that doesn't make sense in the physical world. Mossbridge also delves into what AI does to us, and with us, and what we can do with AI. “Human potential is going to explode with AI if we do it right. It can be a partner in our evolution. We are in this together.” Julia's bio: Affiliate professor in the Dept. of Biophysics and Physics at University of San Diego Senior consultant with Tangible IQ Co-founder of TILT: The Institute for Love and Time Founder of Mossbridge Institute Author and co-author of multiple books and scientific articles related to time travel, artificial intelligence and unconditional love PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders (Northwestern University) MA in Neuroscience (UC San Francisco) BA in Neuroscience with highest honors (Oberlin College) Julia on Linkedin Julia on Medium The Institute for Love and Time (TILT) The Mossbridge Institute

In today's episode, I had the absolute honor of speaking with one of my personal intellectual heroes, Bernardo Kastrup. Bernardo Kastrup is the executive director of the Essentia Foundation. His work has been leading the modern renaissance of metaphysical idealism, the notion that reality is essentially mental. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy (with a focus in ontology and philosophy of mind) and another Ph.D. in computer engineering (with a focus in reconfigurable computing and artificial intelligence). As a scientist, Bernardo has worked for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and the Philips Research Laboratories (where the 'Casimir Effect' of Quantum Field Theory was discovered). He has also had a 25-year career in high-technology, having co-founded parallel processing company Silicon Hive (which was acquired by Intel in 2011). Bernardo Kastrup is also the author of 11 books. I basically have an entire Kastrup shelf inmy office. His book, “Meaning In Absurdity: What Bizarre Phenomena Can Tell Us About the Nature of Reality” is, in my opinion, one of the most important books written on the UFO phenomenon. I can't recommend it highly enough. Just a heads up before we begin—if you aren't familiar with Kastrup's thinking on analytic idealism, the first part of this interview might be a little challenging. If you stick it out, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how elegantly analytic idealism deals with some of the more mysterious aspects of the anomalous phenomena. Donald Hoffman is a cognitive psychologist and popular science author, and in this episode, he talks about our perceptions of reality and then makes us question it. Do we see the world as it truly is? How can we understand the relationship between the physical world and consciousness?   Drawing from his inspirations and his own books and papers, Don teaches us about evolutionary theory and how it shapes our perceptions into illusions. In short, how has evolution made our brains perceive reality the way we do? Cool right? I definitely thought so. I hope you enjoy this podcast as much as I did!   My website: www.guylawrence.com.au   Retreats: www.liveinflow.co

Joe and Rolf discuss the ideas of perceptual psychologist Donald Hoffman, who has argued that our perceptual systems have no access to reality, since evolution is driven by fitness functions, not objective truth. He has also argued that our perception is a user interface (like a desktop on a computer, or a VR headset), and that objects such as the moon don't exist when we are not apprehending them. Dr. Jordan B Peterson and cognitive neuroscientist Dr. Donald Hoffman discuss what we know as reality, why space time is now being considered a “doomed” framework, and how consciousness can be understood as a vast probability space within which we orient ourselves. Hoffman received a Bachelor of Arts degree in quantitative psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles, and then his Doctorate of Philosophy in computational psychology at MIT. He briefly worked as a research scientist at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab, before taking on the role of assistant professor at the University of California at Irvine. He is now a professor in the department of Cognitive Sciences. He has written four books (below), on the topics of human vision, perception, consciousness, and the effects of/reasons for evolution on each. He is also a key proponent of MUI (Multimodal User Interface) theory, which states that "perceptual experiences do not match or approximate properties of the objective world, but instead provide a simplified, species-specific, user interface to that world." Hoffman argues that conscious beings have not evolved to perceive the world as it actually is but have evolved to perceive the world in a way that maximizes "fitness payoffs.” - Links - For Dr. Donald Hoffman: "The Case Against Reality: Why Evolution Hid the Truth from Our Eyes" (Book) https://www.amazon.com/Case-Against-Reality-Evolution-Truth-ebook/dp/B07JR1FDXH/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1OMOD0ZGPHCT9&keywords=the+case+against+reality&qid=1697060197&s=digital-text&sprefix=the+case+against%2Cdigital-text%2C189&sr=1-1 "Visual Intelligence: How We Create What We See" (Book) https://www.amazon.com/Visual-Intelligence-How-Create-What/dp/0393319679/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QZBIXXULF7VC&keywords=Visual+intelligence+hoffman&qid=1697060273&s=digital-text&sprefix=visual+intelligence+hoffman%2Cdigital-text%2C138&sr=1-1-catcorr Dr. Hoffman on X https://twitter.com/donalddhoffman?lang=en Dr. Hoffman's Ted Talk https://www.ted.com/talks/donald_hoffman_do_we_see_reality_as_it_is?language=en
