What happens when a classically trained physician opens the door to the invisible? In this captivating episode, Dr. Bernard Beitman sits down with Dr. Anona Blackwell, a highly respected genitourinary physician whose clinical contributions have changed medical practice in the UK—including three publications in The Lancet. But behind the lab coat lies a healer with deep intuitive insight.Dr. Blackwell shares remarkable stories from her career, where patients were accompanied not just by symptoms, but by spiritual presences—deceased loved ones, spirit animals, even Archangel Michael. These weren't hallucinations or fabrications—they were transformative experiences that helped patients heal. From a scientific background in biophysics to mystical awareness in practice, Anona takes us on a journey that challenges the divide between evidence and energy. Together, she and Bernie explore how intuition, synchronicity, and unseen forces can be felt in the body, recognized in the clinic, and validated by physicians who dare to say: "Yes, your experience is real."Order Dr. Beitman's newest book "Life-Changing Synchronicities: A Doctor's Coincidences and Serendipities" at Simon & Schuster, Barnes and Noble, Inner Traditions, Amazon, Books-a-Million, Bookshop.org (May 2025).About Dr. Anona Blackwell:Anona Blackwell, BSc, AKC, FRCP, is a retired Genito-Urinary physician and author of From Medic to Mystic, a memoir chronicling her paranormal experiences throughout a distinguished medical career. Podcast: This week on the show we feature a pre-recorded conversation with Bob Noha, co-editor of and contributor to Aikido – The Art of Transformation: The Life & Teachings of Robert Nadeau, published recently by Park Street Press, a division of Inner Traditions. A widely influential figure in the development of Aikido in America, Robert Nadeau is known as one of the few American direct disciples of Aikido's founder Morihei Ueshiba O-sensei. Now an 8th dan Aikido master teacher, Nadeau has taught generations of students, and several have become prominent teachers in their own right. However, he has never written about his life or philosophy, always reserving his most pointed lessons for those who practice with him in person. This book tells the story of Robert Nadeau's life journey and his distinctive approach to teaching Aikido as a way to access the inner energetic aspects of the art, a transformational approach with universal applications in daily life, even for non-Aikidoists. The authors explore Nadeau's early interest in martial arts and all things spiritual as a teenager in California in the 1950s, his seminal training under Morihei Ueshiba at Aikido Hombu Dojo in Tokyo in the 1960s, and the following six decades of training, experimenting, refining, and teaching as he worked to introduce Aikido to the wider world, even beyond the traditional dojo. They lay out Nadeau's core concepts, describe his simple-but-effective practices for personal development, and convey his time-tested approach to the inner training at the heart of Aikido in a very accessible way. They also include first-person accounts from Nadeau's students, including Dan Millman, Richard Strozzi-Heckler, Peter Ralston, and Renée Gregorio, who recall their personal experiences of training with him, retell conversations with him, and describe insights and lessons learned, sharing how he affected their lives, sometimes quite profoundly. Bob Noha, 6th Dan, began practicing Aikido in 1966 in Mountain View and shortly thereafter began training with Robert Nadeau Sensei, which started a lifelong friendship. Bob opened the first Aikido school in the Washington, DC, area in 1970 and taught arrest/restraint tactics to US Military Police at Andrews Air Force Base in 1974. Then, in 1975, he established the first Aikido school in Buffalo, New York. He founded Aikido of Petaluma in 1983 and continues to serve as its chief instructor. Bob traveled to Japan to further deepen his Aikido training in 1998, 1999, and 2006. In addition, he is also a devoted student and teacher of t'ai chi and has a background in several other martial arts. As this podcast goes to air, the light of the moon is growing. We are moving through the final energies of the eclipse portal. We just moved through the 10/10 portal aligning with a master vibration. This is known for its powerful energy of transformation, completion, and new beginnings. Often seen as a cosmic gateway, this day is believed to be a time when the universe's energy is particularly potent, making it an ideal moment to manifest intentions, seek abundance, and embark on a path of spiritual growth… all of which reinforces the eclipse energies we have been moving through. One of the ways you can work with this vibration to help you actualize it is by working with crystals during this celestial event, you can deepen your connection to the universe, manifest your true desires, and step confidently into your purpose which is the subject on the podcast today. Are you looking for a deeper understanding of this new energy for you? Are you feeling disconnected from your purpose in life? Deep within us lies an inner strength, a wisdom that embodies our individuality and core passions. This Soul force is a vital aspect of who we are—an intrinsic part of us that demands to be expressed. Are you feeling overwhelmed by your racing thoughts and stuck in the monotony of your daily routine? Do you sense that there's a different way to navigate life, but you're not quite sure how to find it? I've been there—lost, confused, and feeling utterly alone, as if there was no escape. Sleepless nights and a lack of appetite became my norm, until one pivotal day 27 years ago when I was introduced to a teacher who worked with the transformative energy of Reiki. That experience changed my life. I was reminded of this journey recently during an interview for Woman's World Magazine, where I shared how discovering and learning Reiki helped me manage my anxiety, empowering me to make better choices for myself and, most importantly, for my children. It's significant that such a well-respected national magazine chose to highlight this topic, reflecting how important it is to bring Reiki into public conversation. We need an integrative approach to the stress and struggles of life. If you're ready to shift your perspective and embrace change, I invite you to schedule a complimentary Spiritual Upgrade Call with me. Let's explore the number one thing that's keeping you stuck in old patterns.  Click here to schedule. In today's episode, I speak with Marie Delanote about her latest book, "Ethereal Crystal Healing" which is all about working with the vibrations of crystals. She takes a different approach to crystal energy. Ethereal crystals are vibrational tools created for humanity to help raise its frequency and assist in the ascension of human consciousness. Her book aims to bring in an awareness of these vibrational crystals and thus foster enlightenment while also helping you to raise your vibration and to create a life of health, happiness, success, and abundance. Transformational teacher, multi-award winning writer and entrepreneur Marie Delanote, was born in the Flanders, Belgium, moved to the UK with her British husband and their children in the year 2011 and since 2020 lives with her family in County Sligo, Ireland. Marie studied Double bass at the Royal College of Music in Belgium and played in the orchestra of ‘De Munt', Royal Opera House in Brussels. She stopped playing professionally when she decided to be a full-time mum to her four children. www.mariedelanote.net.      Instagram.     YouTube.      Facebook.     Inner Traditions. Marie later started her writing career and is a published author with Findhorn Press, Inner Traditions. Her latest book is being released in October 2024 'Ethereal Crystal Healing - Create Your Life with the Frequencies of Stones'. As an Ethereal Crystals Master, she helps people to connect with the intelligence and guidance of ethereal crystals; transforming energy between people, the physical body, mind, buildings, earth, past lives, and family circles. Her company Ethereal Crystals Global brings products into the world that supports people in raising their vibration and in its turn can transform their life. Yes.. raising our vibration right now in humanity and holding that alignment for the highest good can help to raise the consciousness and healing of Mother Earth. The mystical teachings of these ethereal crystals help us understand that we are all connected. Slow down.. create a connection with each of your crystals.  It isn't about collecting and collecting them but, more importantly.. feeling and resonating with the vibrations the crystals offer us.  Working with the Ethereal Crystal Healing can help empower the Spirit by bringing back our alignment with who we are. It will help to raise our vibration and expand our consciousness. Marie Delanote The mystical teachings of these ethereal crystals help us understand that we are all connected. I am the crystal. The crystal is me. We have that vibrational light as one and as a collective. There are so many ways you can learn to work with your soul. A few years ago, I met Marianne Costa in a garden in Avon, France, along with a mutual friend who was on a pilgrimage to George Gurdjieff's grave, located just around the corner from where I live. We had a fascinating conversation, during which she spoke insightfully about Tarot and her collaboration with Alejandro Jodorowsky, among other topics. Though I was impressed by her depth of knowledge, I remained somewhat indifferent toward Tarot at the time. A few years later, my wife gifted me The Way of Tarot, which Costa co-authored with Jodorowsky. It turned out to be the most practical and compelling book I had ever read on the subject, sparking a personal journey to explore the symbolism of the Tarot. It wasn't until a few years after that, during a psycho-magic reading in a smoky bar in Paris, that I realized I had encountered Tarot symbolism before. Synchronicities abound! Bio: Marianne Costa, born 1966, holds a M.A. in comparative literature and is a renowned Tarot expert. She has published several books translated in various languages, among which : No Woman's Land (novel, Grasset 2004), The Way of Tarot (with Jodorowsky, Inner Traditions 2005, German edition Windpferd 2008) and Metagenealogy (France 2011, USA 2014, a study of family as both a treasure and a trap, also with Jodorowsky).  She collaborates with institutions and museums as a symbology expert — most recently with the Guggenheim Collection in Venice and Accademia di Belle Arti in Palermo. Her last opus, an essay on Tarot's history, symbolism and iconography Le Tarot pas à pas («Tarot step by step ») is already available in French, Spanish and Italian. Her polyfacetic carreer includes being a professional actress and singer, writing and translating poetry, novels and essays, and teaching groups worldwide in Tarot, transgenerational psychology and what she calls « healing fictions », an original technique that combine and surpasses therapy, self-development and artistic expression. She is the translator of Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poetry in French. Her base is in Paris and she has been a passionate tango dancer and singer for the last decade. We are thrilled to have Dr. Shushan with us again this year. His body of work in the field of near-death studies is unrivaled  on near-death experience is unrivaled.  He is a historian of religions, an award-winning author, and the leading authority on near-death experiences and the afterlife across cultures and throughout history. His books include The Next World: Extraordinary Experiences of the Afterlife, Near-Death Experiences in Indigenous Religions, and Near-Death Experience in Ancient Civilizations (coming soon from Inner Traditions). His forthcoming titles include The Historical Anthology of Near-Death Experiences, and Mind Dust and White Crows: The Psychical Research of William James (both as editor). Dr. Shushan is a Visiting Research Fellow at University of Winchester's Centre for Death, Religion and Culture; Adjunct Professor of Thantaology at Marian University; and Research Fellow of the Parapsychology Foundation. He was formerly Perrott-Warrick Researcher at University of Oxford's Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion;  Scholar-in Residence at the Centro Incontri Umani (The Cross Cultural Centre), Ascona, Switzerland; and Honorary Research Fellow at the Religious Experience Research Centre, University of Wales Trinity Saint David. He has lectured at universities in the UK, Ireland, and Switzerland and has given numerous talks on his research in nine countries, and has appeared on the History Channel. Here's what leading scholars are saying about his work: “Gregory Shushan has produced the most important scholarly work on near-death experiences in the last thirty years. He describes the process by which, despite regular attempts to marginalize its power, the NDE has been perhaps the most important shaper of religious creativity in human history. This is a journey and an argument as fascinating and as engrossing as the social history of mankind itself.” -- Allan Kellehear, Clinical Professor, University of Vermont.“Near-Death Experience in Indigenous Religions is a tour de force.  By comparing recorded cases from North America, Africa, and Oceania, Shushan presents a compelling argument for the centrality of near-death experiences to the development of religious ideas across time and culture. Any future discussions of NDEs and the origins of religion will need to take Shushan's major contribution into account.”  -- Fiona Bowie, Research Affiliate, School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography, Oxford University; and founder of Afterlife Research Center “Gregory Shushan's new book provides a uniquely insightful and provocative analysis of near-death experiences that documents their formative influence on worldwide beliefs about an afterlife. His ethnological perspective results in a more comprehensive understanding of NDEs than a purely biological or psychological model can provide, and suggests that afterlife beliefs are rooted not in culture but in the universal human experience of NDEs. This book is essential reading for anyone seeking to understand NDEs and their role in society.” -- Bruce Greyson, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia.READ MORE: https://www.gregoryshushan.com/Dr. Shushan will be presenting at our 2024 Conference on Death, Grief and Belief, online Saturday August 24, 2024.  DETAILS HERE

On Thursday June 23rd, 2022 the Hermetic Hour with host Poke Runyon will reappraise and read from the Hermetic classic  "Three Books of Occult Philosophy" by Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, first published in 1533 in Latin. This master work has been the foundation study of Hermetic science, Magick and mysticism for nearly 500 years. It is divided into three sections, or books:  The Natural World, The Celestial World, and The Divine World. The first, The Natural World dealt with The Hermetic Elements, the second The influence of The Heavens, Stars and Planets upon human affairs and events and the third the Divine World, dealt with the spiritual sciences of Magick and Qabalah. Unfortunately many students get these volumes as a reference work. Agrippa intended it to be read and studied from beginning to end as one continuous and contiguous work. The Hermetic Elements of the Natural World are reflected in the Celestial World, and spiritually empowered and directed from The Divine World. We will demonstrate this with selected readings from the first Volume. We will be reading from the newly translated 1533 Latin edition from Inner Traditions translated by Eric Purdue. So if you want an old fashioned introduction to wizardry, tune and we'll start you on the path.

How are traumatic memories stored in the body? How has Somatic Experiencing helped thousands of people release the symptoms of trauma through bodily practices rather than talky therapy? How did Peter resolve his own devastating childhood trauma? What will a trauma aware society be like? In this episode we have the fascinating question of the different ways traumatic memories are stored to think about, and how the body itself and not only the brain is instrumental in the way the memory's are made and processed, and so in how we might ease the symptoms of the trauma later on. We're going to delve into the brain-body connection in traumatic memory, looking at the way trauma can influence our bodily states and so in turn the way we can use bodily methods in a bottom-up approach, to re-train the brain to feel safe and integrate traumatic memories.  For this there can be no better person than the psychotherapist, Dr. Peter Levine, the creator of the Somatic Experiencing therapy method, founder of the Institute of Somatic Education and author of many books on trauma and therapy, including “Waking the Tiger”, “Healing Trauma”, “Trauma Through a Childs Eyes”, “Trauma and Memory” which we'll be discussing today, and his brand new book, which this episode is happy to celebrate the release of “An autobiography of Trauma: A healing Journey”. Minus 1 minute What we discuss: 00:00 Intro. 06:00 Conscious memories start earlier than we might imagine. 07:00 Descartes was wrong, better “I move, I sense, I feel, I have images, I have thoughts: therefore I am.” 07:30 The mid-1960's session with Nancy that started it all for Peter. 14:20 The 3 different nervous system bodily states: fight or flight, freeze and social engagement. 20:00 Body/Nervous system bi-directionality: Influences between Polyvagal theory and Somatic Experiencing. 26:00 Exercises to switch the hyper-aroused message coming from the body. 29:00 Animal kingdom research into ‘shaking off' daily life threatening experiences. 31:00 The very sensations that help animals release, are scary to us so we block them. 31:40 Vitality, movement and exuberance VS a disembodied society. 33:20 As children we learn to limit our exuberance, so as not to disturb adults. 35:30 Different types of memory and the role of the body in recording them. 36:00 Declarative conscious memory. 36:45 Autobiographical conscious memory. 38:30 Emotional unconscious memory (associative). 39:00 Procedural/body unconscious memories (to protect oneself). 39:45 Peter as Chiron “The Woundd Healer” archetype. 45.10 Being heard, witnessed and listened to: why reflection and mirroring are important. 47:00 “I don't think there is consciousness without being mirrored”. 47:40 A trauma aware society. 51:00 Being heard and mirrored leads to resilience. 54:00 Peter's devastating childhood trauma and shame: “An Autobiography of Trauma” 57:00 Confronting shame tends to intensify it. 59:30 Why share such a personal vulnerable story with the world? 01:01:00 The dream that helped him choose whether or not to publish this deeply personal story. 01:02:20 Encouraging others to tell their stories: cathartic sharing. 01:04:45 Sharing vulnerability with the compassionate other. 01:05:30 Is trauma required to transform or is it just an inevitability of life? 01:07:00 Trauma is a rite of passage towards being truly compassionate. 01:07:40 Gabor Mate, “Compassionate Enquiry”. 01:08:00 Curiosity can't co-exist with fear, use it to shift the process. This week we are rebroadcasting our episode with Sophie Strand which originally aired in November 2022. In this winding and lucid conversation, guest Sophie Strand invites us to investigate our relationality, to embrace rot and decay, to welcome our demons to the dinner table, and to prepare for uncertain futures with tenderness. Sophie brings to light the wisdom of the compost heap. What myths do we need for modernity, what wisdom is sedimented within our bodies? Sophie and Ayana tap into deep lines of thought and myth, weaving together conversations and concepts from thousands of years of human history. As the interview asks, “What is it to be human on our most basic level?” To be a human is to be in complicated and compromising relationships – relationships that implicate us within the other, that show us that love is a process of altering and of deep work. Purity is not an option. Sophie Strand is a writer based in the Hudson Valley who focuses on the intersection of spirituality, storytelling, and ecology. Her first book of essays The Flowering Wand: Rewilding the Sacred Masculine will be published by Inner Traditions on November 22, 2022 and is available for pre-order. In this episode I am joined by Matthias Castle, the forthcoming translator of the new English edition of the Ars Notoria. We establish the historical tradition and textual evolution of the Notary Art, from its origins with Apollonius of Tyana's Flores Aurei & the angel Pamphilius all the way down to the Summa Sacrae Magicae & De Arte Crucifixi. Matthias is an independent scholar of classical studies, medieval history, and the Western esoteric tradition. After graduating from Emory & Henry College with a degree in religious studies and philosophy, Castle's Latin expertise, rich historical understanding, and keen research skills developed into the more than twenty-year ambitious investigation and translation project that resulted in his new book Ars Notoria: The Notory Art of Solomon, coming out November 28th with Inner Traditions. The 13th-century magical treatise offers a secret account of the sacred angelic magic revealed to King Solomon. This new complete translation features both the short and long versions (A, A2 & B) based on Julien Veronese's critical Latin edition and includes all of the original figures (notae), essential for inspection during ritual. You can connect with Matthias on his website at www.matthiascastle.com and I recommend you read his blog on the topics discussed in this video. His book is released November 28th and can be found in most bookstores & online retailers. Check it out here: https://www.innertraditions.com/books... Episode Three, Season Ten of the Thoth-Hermes podcast explores facets of Higher Worlds and the Anthroposophical traditiom. Today, Rudolf meets with Thomas Mayer, Anthroposophical teacher, author and direct democracy activist. In Thomas's words, “you will meet the people you want to meet” which is an ongoing theme in this conversation. Thomas “met” Rudolf Steiner at the age of 15, reading “How to Know Higher Worlds”; 44 years later, he is an Anthroposophical meditation teacher, with his partner Agnes Hardorp. Thomas recently published “Answering the Call of the Elementals” which is intended as a lively workbook to intentionally strengthen a practitioner's connection to those Beings. In their discussion, Thomas and Rudolf explore the path of supersensible perceptual development. Steiner's work incorporated and influenced many aspects of esotericism; its wide-ranging impact is felt in the breadth of the interview. Topics range from the theme of the “I”/”Ich”, to organic architecture, to the Akashic records, to shadow work and the neutralization of the binary. The term “geisteswissenschaft” (“Spiritual Science”) is referenced and defined. Thomas describes the range of viewpoint diversity even within the Goetheanum as an institution, finding both more “intellectual” (scholarly, academic) thinkers and “spiritual” experiential artists. Solitary and group egregore work are weighed, with acknowledgement of their necessary coincidence. Rudolf and Thomas both note the bolster of healthy counterbalance that individual and cooperative esoteric work can provide. Thomas recommends several foundational Steiner texts for listeners, including “The Theosophy of the Rosicrucians”. Rudolf notes that many Steiner writings are available in English, at no cost, online. Thomas enters more specifically into the ideas of the Aether plane and defines the concept of the “Elementals”. Thomas carefully notes the Anthroposophical belief that supersensible perception is available to all humans, but must be actively and personally developed. He reminds us that this is also In the context of mutual interest: that the Elementals seek human interaction as much (or more) as we seek them. This is the cover of the book we also mention in the podcast, Thomas Mayer's book on elementals, available in English from Inner Traditions (see link below) Click here for Thomas Mayer's homepage (in German, sorry...) The book page at Inner Traditions The Rudolf Steinre Archive - in English, most of his work to be found there Anthro-Wiki - an excllent resource in English and German Music played in this episode Also, on this episode, in the "interval", between the two parts of the main interview, a first short talk on a series that will appear from time to time in the next weeks and months, about the effects of sound and music in the spiritual world. Musician and singer EMERELLE, who also provides the music on this episode, speaks to Rudolf on her work and what she thinks music can do with our mind. Emerelle is a singer, musician & videographer from Austria focused on creating music that touches the soul. Ethereal sounds coming from a deep place of stillness help to reconnect with oneself.  Here is what she says about herself: "I studied music pedagogy & classical singing at university but quit after 3 years to create my own music. I've been on an intense spiritual quest since I was 15 years old, studying various philosophies, meditation, advaita, inner work, traumahealing, sacred womanhood and more. It's always been my aim to touch & inspire people, to help them feel and reconnect with their true nature.

Two recent appearances of Sophie Strand at SAND. One was her Community Conversation with Zaya and Maurizio Benazzo the second a story she read called “Healing: A Ghost Story” with Bayo Akomolafe. Sophie's course The Body is a Doorway at SAND Sophie Strand is a writer based in the Hudson Valley who focuses on the intersection of spirituality, storytelling, and ecology. But it would probably be more authentic to call her a neo-troubadour animist with a propensity to spin yarns that inevitably turn into love stories. Give her a salamander and a stone and she'll write you a love story. Sophie was raised by house cats, puff balls, possums, raccoons, and an opinionated, crippled goose. In every neighborhood she's ever lived in she has been known as “the walker”. She believes strongly that all thinking happens interstitially – between beings, ideas, differences, mythical gradients. Her first book of essays The Flowering Wand: Lunar Kings, Lichenized Lovers, Transpecies Magicians, and Rhizomatic Harpists Heal the Masculine is available now from Inner Traditions. Her eco-feminist historical fiction reimagining of the gospels The Madonna Secret will also be published by Inner Traditions. Her books of poetry include Love Song to a Blue God (Oread Press) and Those Other Flowers to Come (Dancing Girl Press) and The Approach (The Swan). Her poems and essays have been published by Art PAPERS, The Dark Mountain Project, Poetry.org, Unearthed, Braided Way, Creatrix, Your Impossible Voice, The Doris, Persephone's Daughters, and Entropy. She has recently finished a work of historical fiction, The Madonna Secret, that offers an eco-feminist revision of the gospels. She is currently researching her next epic, a mythopoetic exploration of ecology and queerness in the medieval legend of Tristan and Isolde. In this episode, Kimberly and Sophie explore the nuances of being public entrepreneurs and authors. They wonder aloud together about the various roles of knowledge, expertise, and experience and discuss issues such as psychedelics for women, the complexities of social media, the need for eldership, disability and sickness as an altered state, as well as healing practices outside of a hyper-fixated and individualistic framework. The common threads connecting their questions center around identities as facilitators and writers, the need for connection to community and lineages, and managing the challenges of social media and identity politics in a hyper-individualistic culture. Ultimately, they land on the beauty that comes from maturation, wisdom, and growth over time that cannot be done by a quick-fix nor in isolation.   Bio Sophie Strand is a writer based in the Hudson Valley who focuses on the intersection of spirituality, storytelling, and ecology.
