Welcome to an extra long episode of Doctor Who Literature, but one of the deepest and most rewarding ones we've ever produced. The subject is the February 1966 Doctor Who episode The Massacre, a troubled production where the original author tried to disclaim credit, the video is lost and only a few publicity photos survived, and the surviving audio is hard to untangle as William Hartnell only appears in a small handful of scenes. We have three guests this week to help unravel the story: --Repeat DWLit guest Denise Sutton joins Jason for a specially-recorded live introduction in Central London. --Repeat DWLit guest Ian Potter, a Black Archives writer, helps Jason try to unravel the troubled production (and troubled production team!) at the heart of the TV serial. --The Rev. Jerrod Hugenot, an American Baptist minister and Doctor Who fan, whose surname ties into this story, helps us understand the historical and religious context of August 1572. And although he doesn't appear in this episode, we could not have produced this week without James Cooray Smith, who literally wrote the book on The Massacre. We'll be back next week to cover another William Hartnell adventure, with a much shorter episode! If you enjoyed this episode, please follow, subscribe, and rate us! The Senate passed a resolution 30-19 along party lines to create a special committee with subpoena power for this probe. The allegations surfaced in a motion filed by a defendant, Michael Roman. Senate Republicans argue that investigating Willis is justified due to the significant legal fees paid to Wade for pursuing the case. Senate Democrats contend that existing processes, including the Senate Ethics Committee, are adequate for the investigation. We'll have final thoughts after this. Australia is known for trailblazers like Burke and Wills, who crossed Australia from bottom to top. Or for the many people for whom rooms are named at the State Library Victoria, like Charles La Trobe, or Ian Potter. One name that may not come to mind, but absolutely should, is Alice Anderson. A business-savvy pioneer for women in Victoria, Alice turned a touring car into Australia's first garage run by and for women. In this episode, we're joined by Sarah Matthews, one of the Librarians at State Library Victoria, and an Alice Anderson expert. Sarah wrote an amazing article on Alice for the State Library website, so in this episode, she'll share the incredible story of Miss Anderson and her motor service.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Stacy Margolin Potter reached into the top ranks of pro tennis players during a golden age of women's tennis, along with Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova, Chrissie Evert, reaching #18 in ranking. She shares with "Ojai: Talk of the Town" her deep love of, and long history with, Ojai where she won seven titles at the Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament, the world's oldest amateur tennis tournament. She tells a fun story about getting food poisoning during the tournament and still drawing upon inner reserves of strength and determination to triumph. Growing up in Beverly Hills as a member of a tennis-loving family, Stacy joined the boy's team in high school to sharpen her preternatural skill at the game, bruising many men's egos. From there, she went to USC, leading their squad to a national championship, and on to the pro tour. During her five-year relationship with John McEnroe, Stacy inadvertently was an participant in an international incident at Wimbledon, in which McEnroe, enraged at the impertinence of the English press asking about her whereabouts, started a punch-up between the American press and English press. Retiring at age 26 from the tour, she moved to Ojai after a romantic vacation with future husband Ian Potter, the adventure guide, with rock climbing and bicycling and honky-tonking at The Wheel. Next visit they went to Landucci's restaurant at Wheeler Hot Springs, building a store of memories. She began working at the Oaks at Ojai with fitness pioneer Sheila Cluff and tennis coach Helen Allen, teaching their famous immersive "tennis week," which drew people from all over the country. The Potters now own Trails by Potter, leading people on bike rides, rock climbs and tennis lessons around Ojai, guiding people into our gorgeous country. Stacy returned to college after retiring from the tour, first getting her master's degree at Pepperdine, then taking up a paid internship at a recovery center, learning about addiction. That in turn led her into a career dealing with eating disorders, teaching a program called "Eating and Exercise Counseling." That led her to Institute of Integrated Nutrition, an online platform to "look at the whole person," which became the basis of her new enterprise, balanced eating & lifestyle coaching, which puts all the elements of her life together. She learned about 101 diet plans, trying many herself as a guinea pig. We conclude with a talk about finding, and staying, on your healthy path, and how Ojai makes it much easier than many places. For Stacy, it's not about shaming yourself for bad choices, it's about making good choices and letting the healthy feelings crowd out the unhealthy ones.

A worthy continuation of a cult classic. these tales are so finely crafted that you dont need to have seen the original. four storming stories, more of the same please, miss this at your peril. This title was released in May 2018. It will be exclusively available to buy from the BF website until June 30th 2018, and on general sale after this date. It’s the near future, and mankind has expanded its presence in space. Maintaining law and order among this network of space stations, satellites and moon outposts is the responsibility of the International Space Police Force, known colloquially as the Star Cops. Their leader is Commander Nathan Spring. While dealing with crimes including drug smuggling and murder, the Star Cops find themselves facing a new and sustained threat. The activist group Mother Earth, ideologically opposed to humanity’s presence in space, has been quiet for some time. But no longer. The group returns with a vengeance, prepared it seems to go to any lengths to achieve its aims. 1.1 One of Our Cops is Missing by Andrew Smith As construction of the Vasco da Gama, the largest space station ever put into orbit, nears completion, Nathan is visited by an old friend, who asks for his help in tracking down a missing undercover officer. Meanwhile, Inspector Priya Basu is investigating a near-fatal spacewalk accident on the space station Rakesh Sharma that may be no accident at all. 1.2 Tranquillity and Other Illusions by Ian Potter A murder at the historic scene of the first Apollo moon landing offers few clues for the Star Cops. Why would anyone want to kill Philip Hughes, a property entrepreneur? And what has become of the mysterious woman who was with him at the time? The investigation leads to a moon outpost, where anyone may be the killer. 1.3 Lockdown by Christopher Hatherall Tech Tower is a state of the art, high-security, high-technology building located in Paris. It seems the ideal venue for an international conference on how to counter the growing threat from the Mother Earth group. Nathan and Priya attend as representatives of space policing. Soon, they and everyone else in the building find themselves in danger as a disruptive attack by Mother Earth coincides with a plot by criminals to carry out a high stakes robbery. 1.4 The Thousand Ton Bomb by Guy Adams A failed bombing of Moonbase provides the Star Cops with an opportunity to strike back at Mother Earth. Paul Bailey is called on to use his undercover skills once more. But Mother Earth is about to escalate its campaign of violence with a spectacular attack. And the Star Cops are among those in the firing line. This title was released in June 2017. It will be exclusively available to buy from the BF website until July 31st 2017, and on general sale after this date. The world has ended. 'The Death’ pandemic crossed continents, sparing only a fraction of the global population. The survivors are now trying to pick up the pieces and rebuild society - to create a new future. But with no cities, no laws, no technology, everyone must start over. And the worst of human nature has survived along with the best... Four new battles for survival, from the world of Terry Nation's cult-classic series. 6.1 Beating the Bounds by Ian Potter Abby Grant’s search for her son has taken her all across Britain and back. Following every possible lead, she finds herself on long-abandoned roads to forgotten villages. But now, two years after the first Death, such communities still wish to protect themselves. And they do not take kindly to strangers. 6.2 The Trapping Pit by Christopher Hatherall On a routine trading mission from Whitecross to Evelyn Piper’s Foundation, Jenny Richards and community doctor Ruth Anderson are ambushed by desperate scavengers. When the tables turn, an escape attempt becomes a struggle for survival. With a young man’s life hanging in the balance, Ruth’s skills are put to the ultimate test. 6.3 Revenge of Heaven by Simon Clark Greg Preston has forged links with survivors in Norway to start rebuilding society. He’s ready to return home to his family… until an unexpected visitor drags him into a race across the Scandinavian snows. Hope for the future lies with a kidnapped scientist, and some will go to any lengths to control that hope. 6.4 Lockup by Andrew Smith As her journey continues, Abby encounters a secure and well-ordered community, based inside a prison complex, calling itself ‘Peacetown’. But the settlement is not as idyllic as its name suggests, and the lockup harbours secrets. Among them, a prisoner. Someone Abby knows of old... A man called Greg Preston. Episode 43 of the Doctor Who: Alhambra Podcast In this episode of the Alhambra Podcast, the trio of Brett (@Mavic_Chen) and Liam (@djNezumi) and Legeon (@legeonhenderson) reunite and bring an enjoyable hour (or more) discussion and sci-fi silliness for the month of October 2016. Starting off with the news! We are not reviewing Doctor Who - CLASS until it is released visually on BBC America, which will be around January 2017. We discussed the release of Doctor Who CLASS three book release by BBC books. Talking points: " If you could only one choice one boxed set "Doom Coalition" or "War Doctor" or other boxed set series, what would it be and why? I read a transcript from Whooverville 8 panel interview, from the Pubcast and Tin-Dog Podcast. Here is the transcript that I made and read on the podcast. It's not exact word-for-word. Question from the Pubcast: “Is there anything you would have liked to do on Doctor Who that you weren't able to do?” Eric Seyward: “I would have like to have a female companion a little bit tougher, a little bit more real, to contribute a little bit more. Tegan and Nyssa became redundant, it was difficult to fit them into stories. Tegan spent most of her time moaning, and Nyssa looking aloof and whatever. We had so many of them, Turlough, so three of them at one stage. With the exception of Turlough, they really couldn't contribute massively, because when you are driving around in deep space in a TARDIS. Tegan is from 1980 Earth, and she couldn't really contribute, because whenever they arrived somewhere she has to ask questions, and it makes her boring. But I would have liked to have had fewer companion, if you had a female one, certainly one that is stronger more positive contribution. I probably would have chosen one from deep space, where should would have the sort of knowledge that could compete with the Doctor. Minute 22:57 The Tin Dog Podcast: I loved the Terileptil (from The Visitation) have you ever approached or have been approached by Big Finish, to say “can we have them on this, because it's a lot cheaper with make-up? Because I think as a race, they would really have legs on audio Eric Seyward: Big Finish, they've never approached me for anything. It would make them more interesting. The Tin Dog Podcast: You seem to have a whole world building thing with them, rather than having them as the Villain of the Week. They had a society and they built beautiful things like androids. It sounds like there was more thought put in them than other... Eric Seyward: - Goes into the backstory of the Terileptil (However) The Tin Dog goes onto ask Eric Seyward about the story of The Visitation, noting that this story was the one selected as the story for the book “The Making of Doctor Who.” By the way The Tin Dog asked this question, you can tell this is a special story to Michael, and wants to know more, saying that fans didn't have access to much Doctor Who content, so when it came out it was loved and cherished. The Visitation was the concentrated storyline in “The Making of Doctor Who” book. Yet Eric Seyward goes onto crap on The Tin Dog's question/reference, saying The Visitation wasn't a special story, it just happened to be the one that was in production at the time. One positive from the podcast was the Pubcast and Tin-Dog podcast panel interview, where Sophie Aldread's Go Fund Me project: “Strangeness in Space” a free podcast radio drama. http://strangenessinspace.com/episodes/ or on iTunes.
