This latest episode of Infra Dig centres on energy efficiency, energy security and grid shocks… an increasingly important issue given developments earlier this year.  IJGlobal editorial director Angus Leslie Melville speaks to Jonathan Maxwell, chief executive of Sustainable Development Capital (SDCL) about the substation fire that knocked out Heathrow Airport Terminal 3 and the power outage across Spain and Portugal.  While this was headline news across Europe – and considerably further afield – earlier this year (2025), this episode focuses on the causes of each power outage and how this can be mitigated against.

Welcome back to another episode of the EUVC Podcast, where we gather Europe's venture family to share the stories, insights, and lessons that drive our ecosystem forward. Today's conversation takes us on a global journey from Croatia to San Francisco to uncover how one founder caught lightning in a bottle and is now racing to harness it.Our guest: Ivan Burazin, founder of Daytona. With a career spanning Toronto, Croatia, Infobip, Shift Conference, and now Daytona, Ivan brings a rare, global perspective on how Europe can lead in DevTools and AI infrastructure. Alongside him, our dear friend Enis Hulli from E2VC joins to spotlight Daytona's story, the lessons from its dramatic pivot, and what it means for founders and investors navigating this new AI wave.Ivan has spent two decades at the intersection of infrastructure and developer communities. From racking servers in the early 2000s to launching one of the first browser-based IDEs in 2009 to scaling the Shift Conference to thousands of attendees, his career has consistently circled around enabling developers.Daytona's first act was a cloud IDE provider for enterprises — “one-click setup for secure developer environments.” With Fortune 500 customers onboard, revenue flowing, and a healthy pipeline, Daytona 1.0 showed promise. But something was missing.Six months ago, Ivan and his team made a bold decision to pivot. Daytona 2.0 is no longer about provisioning dev environments for humans — it's about powering AI agents with the computers they need.“Agents are not computers themselves. They need access to computers to run browsers, clone repos, analyze data. Daytona gives them that — an isolated sandbox with machine-native interfaces built for agents.” – IvanThe differences between human and agent runtimes turned out to be massive:Humans tolerate 30 seconds of spin-up; agents need milliseconds.Humans solve problems sequentially; agents branch into parallel “multiverse” solutions.Humans parse terminal output; agents require clean APIs.By recognizing this, Daytona carved out a new category: the computer for agents. The pivot coincided with a deliberate move to San Francisco. Ivan recalls how Figma embedded with designers at Airbnb, or how Twilio found adoption among early Valley startups. To own mindshare in a new category, location mattered.“From San Francisco outwards, adoption flows naturally. From Europe inwards, it's like pushing uphill.” – IvanSo Daytona went all-in: presence at AI meetups, team members flying in and out, and early product evangelism on the ground.HAfter the pivot, Daytona saw extraordinary pull from the market:Customer conversations ended with “send me the API key”.Infrastructure demand showed power-law dynamics: just a handful of fast-growing customers could drive scale.Instead of polished decks, Ivan shared raw revenue dashboards with authenticity. The momentum was immediate and tangible.Ivan admits he hadn't explicitly asked permission to pivot. He hinted at it in updates, tested the idea with a hackathon, and only later informed his cap table. The response? Overwhelmingly positive.“Almost half the angels replied. Go f***ing go. Let's go. I should've told them sooner.” – IvanEnis highlights this as a key distinction: experienced angels with broad portfolios encourage bold swings, while less diversified angels may fear the risk.Catching lightning is one thing. Harnessing it is another. Ivan's current focus:Hiring deliberately: keeping the team small and ownership-driven.White-glove onboarding: every serious customer gets a Slack channel with the whole team.Balancing speed and reliability: ship daily, but solve today's scale problems without over-engineering.Enis introduces a new term: seed-strapping — raising a seed, skipping A and B, and scaling straight to unicorn status.Ivan is cautious. Infra is capital-intensive, and while Daytona could raise a Series A today, he's committed to doing it on his terms.

On this episode of The Data Minute, Peter sits down with Drew Glover, founder and managing partner at Fiat Ventures and Fiat Growth, for a wide-ranging conversation on what's next in fintech and what founders actually want from their investors. They dive into how fintech is moving from DTC chaos into quietly powerful B2B infrastructure, why capital is no longer a moat, and how AI may turn traditionally “unsexy” industries into VC-ready moonshots. Drew shares how Fiat combines strategic capital and operational firepower, why most products change after seed funding, and what VCs should be underwriting instead. This one is founder-forward, fund-sharp, and full of insight into where fintech, and early-stage VC, is going next.Subscribe to Carta's weekly Data Minute newsletter: https://carta.com/subscribe/data-newsletter-sign-up/Explore interactive startup and VC data, with Carta's Data Desk: https://carta.com/data-desk/Chapters:01:35 – Why fintech's rollercoaster is (maybe) headed back up03:20 – From growth at all costs to sustainable strategy04:45 – The emotional weight of money06:30 – Fintech is everywhere08:15 – The founder–capital–consumer triangle is shifting09:10 – How Fiat “underwrites” with data from 300+ growth clients10:50 – What Fiat looks for in a founder12:00 – Obsession > expertise13:40 – Drew's fintech investing thesis in the AI era15:15 – Can AI unlock investability in “unsexy” sectors like HVAC and services?16:40 – Are we about to lose a whole tier of founders to lifestyle design?18:15 – Runway > headcount: why startup raises aren't shrinking19:00 – Capital is not the moat20:14 – Strategic capital wins deals: how Fiat preempts rounds21:10 – What “capital plus” means in early-stage VC today22:42 – Where does all that early-stage funding actually go?23:45 – Why founders need to become founders-as-influencers26:20 – Thought leadership advice for the technical or hesitant founder27:10 – People buy from you, not the brand28:45 – AI-native companies = raise big, move first, win fast29:50 – User loyalty, moats, and the AI ecosystem play31:05 – Fintech exits today?

The conversation covers usability challenges, emerging payment use cases, and the future of embedded finance, emphasizing the need for regulatory clarity and collaboration between fintechs and traditional financial institutions. Notable discussion points: 1. Stablecoins Overtake Crypto in Volume: Stablecoins now make up over 50% of Zerohash's volume, driven by regulatory clarity and real-world use cases like payments and treasury. Institutions prefer them for their centralized control and ease of integration.2. Brokerage and Payments Are Converging: Zerohash sees strong demand across brokerage and payment rails, with banks and fintechs embedding stablecoin infrastructure. Global payouts, account funding, and subscriptions are key growth areas despite UX friction.3. Regulatory Climate Is Rapidly Improving: U.S. policy has shifted from regulatory overreach to bipartisan support for stablecoin legislation. Labelbox CEO Manu Sharma joins a16z Infra partner Matt Bornstein to explore the evolution of data labeling and evaluation in AI — from early supervised learning to today's sophisticated reinforcement learning loops.Manu recounts Labelbox's origins in computer vision, and then how the shift to foundation models and generative AI changed the game. The value moved from pre-training to post-training and, today, models are trained not just to answer questions, but to assess the quality of their own responses. Labelbox has responded by building a global network of “aligners” — top professionals from fields like  coding, healthcare, and customer service, who label and evaluate data used to fine-tune AI systems. The conversation also touches on Meta's acquisition of Scale AI, underscoring how critical data and talent have become in the AGI race. Here's a sample of Manu explaining how Labelbox was able to transition from one era of AI to another:It took us some time to really understand like that the world is shifting from building AI models to renting AI intelligence. A vast number of enterprises around the world are no longer building their own models; they're actually renting base intelligence and adding on top of it to make that work for their company. And that was a very big shift. But then the even bigger opportunity was the hyperscalers and the AI labs that are spending billions of dollars of capital developing these models and data sets. We really ought to go and figure out and innovate for them. For us, it was a big shift from the DNA perspective because Labelbox was built with a hardcore software-tools mindset. Our go-to market, engineering, and product and design teams operated like software companies. But I think the hardest part for many of us, at that time, was to just make the decision that we're going just go try it and do it. And nothing is better than that: "Let's just go build an MVP and see what happens."Follow everyone on X:Manu SharmaMatt Bornstein Check out everything a16z is doing with artificial intelligence here, including articles, projects, and more podcasts.

Network APIs are heralded as a game changer in the ongoing struggle of 5G operators to make a good return on their enormous investments in building these highly capable networks. Unlike previous attempts, stars might be aligning this time to make APIs successful. Aduna was formed by a collaborative effort between Infra major Ericsson and scores of handpicked large global 5G operators. In this episode, I speak to Anthony Bartolo, CEO of Aduna. We discuss the reasons for Aduna's existence, how it collaborates with the GSMA's Open Gateway initiative and the Linux Foundation's CAMARA project, typical use cases, target verticals, traction so far, the role of hyperscalers, who have their own large app ecosystems, which is crucial for API proliferation, and more. We also delve into Aduna's business and revenue model, how other players can join, what the future holds, and how the company defines the success of this effort.
