This week's guest is Jason Haith, Vice President Commercial Forwarding US & Mexico, for DP World. With 20+ years experience in Import/Export operations, Jason is the perfect person to discuss global trade in general and trade with Mexico in particular. In our conversation, we discuss how trade between the US and Mexico has changed over the years, the impact of recent tariffs being enacted and then almost immediately modified or removed, and how Near or Friend shoring might evolve.
Have you ever run a LinkedIn ad campaign or sent a sponsored message and felt like you were just shouting into the void? You're not alone. I recently reviewed a case study on my podcast that perfectly illustrates why many businesses struggle with LinkedIn outreach, even with paid features.I got a sponsored message from an FX specialist – someone who helps businesses manage multiple currency accounts, avoid hefty bank fees, and streamline cross-border transactions. Sounds valuable, right? So what's the problem? My LinkedIn profile has absolutely nothing to suggest I'm interested in FX or run a business with international payment needs. This message was a perfect example of blanket messaging – and it's why so many people say prospecting is "hard" or "doesn't work."Here's the truth: The tactics work. Most people are just doing it wrong! The Core Problem: Irrelevant Targeting! You wouldn't try to sell baby diapers to someone without a baby, or adult diapers to a young, healthy couple. The same logic applies to your business. If you're sending generic messages to everyone, you're not just ineffective – you're wasting time and money on your sponsored messages.Prospecting only works when you're going after a relevant audience!Who Should Our FX Specialist Have Targeted?Instead of a consultant/ podcaster like me, the FX specialist should have focused on individuals and companies that inherently deal with international payments, receive foreign income, or conduct cross-border business.Think people like: * CFOs, Finance Directors, Treasury Managers, Financial Controllers * E-commerce businesses selling internationally * Import/Export companies * Tech startups & SaaS companies with global clients or remote teams * Manufacturing companies sourcing materials abroad * Logistics & Supply Chain companies * Businesses with remote international teams etc.Even with perfect targeting, don't make your first outreach a long, multi-idea message ending with "jump on a call now!" That assumes a stranger is ready to commit.Instead, think in terms of a sequence of shorter, focused messages designed to draw people into a conversation. Here are other tips to consider: * Segment your audience: Craft messages tailored to specific pain points. * Start with a single problem: "Are you tired of hidden bank fees eating into your international profits?" or "Does managing multiple foreign currency accounts feel like a constant headache?" * Confirm interest: The goal of the initial message is to get a "yes, that's me!" and engage them in the chat. * Then, and only then, propose a call: If they're interested and engaged in the conversation, then you can suggest a consultation call to explore savings. The main takeaway? Stop expecting one "magic message" to solve all your sales problems.Focus on precision targeting and a conversational approach. It's not about sending a million messages; it's about how many relevant people you can get to take meaningful action. What's your biggest challenge in making your LinkedIn outreach more effective?#LinkedInMarketing #SalesTips #BusinessStrategy #Prospecting #DigitalMarketing #SME #NigeriaBusiness

Former Defra secretary of state George Eustice says there should be a new generation of UK fresh produce glasshouse production post-election, with a Defra strategy to support that. The retiring Conservative MP believes more can also be done on labour shortages. He supports a needs-based policy so sectors with shortages have sector-specific visas, and a 10-year plus seasonal worker scheme maintained at current worker levels. After standing down ahead of the July 4 general election, Eustice formed the Penbroath environmental and agricultural consultancy. He discusses his political legacy from his nine-year stint as a Defra minister, including almost three as secretary of state until 2022; they include the Environment, Agriculture and Fishery Acts and the transition from EU subsidies to new schemes. He also reflects on working through a "turbulent time" with Brexit, Covid and Ukraine happening during his tenure. On plant imports, he argues the UK has been "incredibly generous" to the EU on plant imports and that has not been reciprocated with UK exports to the EU. Importers may find BCPs frustrating, but they should be buying from British nurseries where they know the health status of plants he says. Eustice does admit he would have timed the implementation better (delayed due to Covid, the Ukraine war and having to re-recruit border staff). Despite "teething problems" he maintains BCPs are the most proportionate and risk-based approach to stopping plant pests and diseases entering the UK.On peat, he expresses frustration that his successor at Defra ,Therese Coffey, brough forward peat ban plans without a legislative vehicle. The consequent "uncertainty" was a "terrible mistake". Eustice wanted to ban garden centre bagged sales but to delay commercial peat bans on growers until 2030, with veg module bans not implemented until 2035-40. He wants to see a return to that approach. He discusses how the new Government, be it Tory or Labour, could bring elements of the peat ban into force including using secondary regulation to restrict sales under the Environment Act's 'protecting resources' section, though the current the Government did not think that would work. A ban on all retail sales would get round how to make sure imports grown in peat do not undercut the UK market. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Welcome to this weeks podcast where we discuss the challenges and requirements of doing business in Mexico from a US perspective. Today's episode focuses on the differences between Mexican and US customs brokers and why the Customs department (Import/Export team) in your Mexican facility should report to trade compliance vs. another local department that may not have the best interests of the company or the role represented by Mexican import/export team. In Mexico, customs brokers are held jointly responsible with the importer. Which makes Mexican customs brokers more cautious in their operations. Because of that, they will hold their clients, (i.e. you, the foreign manufacturer in Mexico) to much higher standards and will work much closer with you than what you may see in the U.S. For this reason, US companies and managers need to be aware of these distinctions and make sure that their trade team in Mexico are properly aligned with the management that has the best interests of the company and the department in mind. In this discussion our guests argue why the various departments in a typical manufacturing operation are not well suited to manage the trade team. This includes Purchasing, Materials, Finance, or other departments that typically take responsibility for this task. Enjoy the show.
