Welcome back to Not Fintech Investment Advice, where Simon Taylor and I bounce through fintech companies that have recently caught our eye. We're kicking off with Dakota, a Brex-Wise hybrid for SMBs, offering 24/7 global payments with a stablecoin twist. Deposits, stored as stablecoins, earn up to 4% yield and are issued by Dakota, raising questions about custody, resolution, and well…what happens if Dakota goes belly up? Instant, global payments without banking hours are perfect for cross-border businesses, but proceed with curiosity and caution when it comes to deposit safety. Next up: ampersand, a post-SVB startup transforming deposit management. They optimize large cash deposits across banks for safety, rates, and values (focusing on FDIC insurance, top rates, and ethical alignment). Unlike, say, IntraFi, ampersand targets companies directly–not just banks–especially mid-sized ones lacking treasury teams. But post-SVB, why do uninsured deposits even exist? Banks may hesitate, but company demand is there; ampersand's timing couldn't be better. Then there's Auquan, which automates deep work in financial services—think credit memos, deal screening, and investment committee prep—in minutes. They're not just making flashy demos; they're delivering real results as vouched for by clients like MetLife and UBS. While most Gen AI tools overpromise, it seems like Auquan actually delivers consistent and quality results. And in capital markets—where grunt work once built expertise—AI like Auquan could be a real disruptor. And finally, TymeBank is shaking things up for emerging-market neobanking. With 15M+ customers in South Africa and the Philippines, they've snagged a $250M Series D led by Nubank, securing a 10% stake. Think franchise neobanking—proven model, local twist. Nubank expands strategically, while TymeBank taps into its scaling expertise. This is modern fintech, not the old HSBC playbook. Plus, who's stepping up to lead supervisory tech? Let's fix government inefficiency—no need to cut agencies, just make them work smarter (not smaller) to break up our banking bottleneck. 00:02:45 - Dakota 00:18:11 - ampersand 00:30:25 - Auquan 00:41:34 - TymeBank 00:52:21 - Manifesting Fintech Ideas Sign up for Alex's Fintech Takes newsletter for the latest insightful analysis on fintech trends, along with a heaping pile of pop culture references and copious footnotes. BONUS: The Power of TWI in Transforming Supervisory Skills and Software Leadership With Hugh Alley In this BONUS episode, we delve into how Training Within Industry (TWI) principles can revolutionize leadership and supervision, and those principles can be adapted to the software industry. Hugh Alley, industrial engineer, author of The TWI Memory Jogger, and seasoned consultant, brings invaluable insights on how adapting these timeless methods can enhance team cohesion, productivity, and job satisfaction. From Toxic Workplaces to Transformative Solutions "When I first saw supervisors shouting in the workplace, I knew there had to be a better way." Hugh's journey began in the high-stress world of manufacturing where ineffective leadership was the norm. His turning point came when he discovered TWI, which shifted a company from zero employee suggestions to implementing 2-3 improvements per week. He shares the importance of recognizing poor patterns and seeking practical solutions that lead to lasting change. "A key insight? The power of TWI isn't just in theory; it creates immediate, real-world results." The Historic Power of TWI: Lessons from World-War II "We learned that repetition is essential for true skill mastery." Hugh recounts the origins of TWI during WWII when the U.S. War Manpower Commission had to quickly upskill the workforce and develop leaders. He highlights the drastic improvement in training time for complex tasks, such as lens grinding, reduced from five years to just five days. This approach emphasized breaking tasks into micro-skills and practicing them repeatedly. "The secret to learning is practice—not just once, but deliberately and consistently." Core Managerial Responsibilities: Mission and People "If you don't look after your people, they'll leave." Hugh elaborates on two often-overlooked managerial duties: achieving the mission and caring for the team. In software projects, where meeting deadlines becomes paramount, leaders may overlook their teams' well-being. He shares a case where training in TWI's Job Relations (JR) module reduced turnover from 60% to 10%, proving that attention to people directly impacts results. "Feedback isn't optional—it's the backbone of a motivated team." The Five Essential Supervisory Skills "Getting people up to speed isn't luck; it's skill." Hugh discusses the five essential skills for supervisors outlined in TWI: giving instructions, fostering performance, improving methods, setting priorities, and listening. These skills ensure that new team members integrate smoothly and that ongoing work aligns with team goals. For software teams, he emphasizes that structured training can prevent future issues and enhance productivity. "Supervisory success is built on clear guidance and active listening." Why TWI Gets Overlooked and How to Revitalize It "We don't need heroes; we need high-functioning teams." Post-WWII, TWI lost momentum as it was seen as outdated, and the culture shifted toward individual heroics in the workplace. Hugh argues that today's teams thrive not on isolated brilliance but on collective efficiency and shared learning. "Our challenge today is to reclaim TWI's structured approach for consistent team performance." Addressing Performance Issues with TWI "Inspection isn't just watching; it's understanding and acting." Hugh explains how the Job Relations module of TWI can be adapted for software teams to address performance issues. He shares practical steps for leaders to approach these conversations constructively, improving team trust and transparency. "Proactive feedback, rooted in observation, fuels team growth." Application for Scrum Masters and Agile Leaders "Basic certifications don't cover these leadership essentials." Hugh talks about how Scrum Masters can leverage the insights from his book, The TWI Memory Jogger, to build vital supervisory skills that foster better team dynamics and output. He emphasizes the importance of continuous learning beyond basic training to handle real-world challenges effectively. "To be truly effective, Scrum Masters must master supervisory fundamentals." The Art of Listening in Leadership "Respect starts with truly hearing your team." Hugh shares a story about a colleague named Angie, illustrating how active listening can uncover underlying issues affecting performance. He discusses how TWI encourages leaders to move beyond surface-level interactions and engage meaningfully with their teams. "Listening is the gateway to trust and respect in leadership." Improving Methods: A Supervisor's Guide "Ask better questions, get better answers." For supervisors and Agile Coaches, Hugh introduces six reflective questions that improve work methods. He explains how applying these questions can enhance retrospective meetings and process improvements in software teams, reinforcing TWI's impact on continuous improvement. "Improvement begins when you challenge every assumption and ask the right questions." TWI's Influence on Team Cohesion and Values Hugh shares a success story from his book where TWI principles transformed team unity. He shows how applying these principles nurtures an environment of mutual respect and shared responsibility. "True cohesion comes from shared learning and collective effort." Hugh encourages listeners to explore TWI resources and start with practical application in their teams. For those eager to dive deeper, his books Becoming the Supervisor and The TWI Memory Jogger offer accessible entry points to mastering these crucial skills. About Hugh Alley Hugh Alley is an industrial engineer, author, and consultant specializing in continuous improvement and supervisory skills. He has led multiple manufacturing firms and trained over 1,000 front-line leaders, authoring two books on effective supervision. In this short podcast, Bryan answers a listener-submitted question about duct smoke detector facts and wiring. He focuses on Honeywell duct smoke detectors (namely the D4120W), but there are some general best practices that can be applied to most duct smoke detectors. The power supply may be 24v or 120v AC or DC and may have multiple inputs. You should not break that constant power source. There are also fan shutdown contacts, which may be normally open (alarm condition) or normally closed (non-alarm condition). Supervisory contacts open to indicate a trouble condition to the panel when something in the circuit isn't working properly (NOT an alarm condition). There is often a resistor at the end of the loop, and the alarm panel recognizes a specific resistance. Alarm initiation contacts close and create a shorted condition when there is an alarm condition (the supervisory contacts open if there is a trouble condition). Smoke detectors in the ducts are different from the ones on ceilings; they usually shut down blowers to prevent the distribution of smoke through the ductwork (and possibly exhaust it to the outside). They are required in duct systems designed for more than (or at least) 2000 CFM per NFPA90 and IMC 606.2.1, though those codes conflict. NFPA90 requires installation in the supply duct, but IMC 606.2.1 requires installation in the return; the AHJ may interpret the code either way. (Smoke detectors in systems >15000 CFM must be in both the return and the supply.) Overall, remember that different detectors are suitable for different velocities. You will want to keep them downstream of bends for at least 18 inches, test them according to the AHJ, and ensure that they are mounted in the right configuration as recommended by the manufacturer. “Cloning model: The mentor teaches the learner as if they were a clone of the mentor. Nurturing model: The mentor assumes a parental role to create an open, supportive environment where the learner can learn and try things themselves. Friendship model: The mentor acts more as a peer "rather than being involved in a hierarchical relationship". Apprenticeship model: The mentor and learner predominantly have a professional relationship.[30] Peer mentoring: Relationships that involve individuals in similar positions. One person may be more knowledgeable in a certain aspect or another, and they can help each other progress in their work. In most cases, peer relationships provide a lot of support, empathy, and advice because the situations are quite similar. Situational mentoring: Short-term relationships in which a person mentors for a specific purpose. This could be a company bringing an expert in regarding social media, or internet safety. This expert can mentor employees to make them more knowledgeable about a specific topic or skill. Supervisory mentoring: This relationship involves a mentor with a higher position than the learner. The mentor can answer many questions and advise the best course of action.[31] Mentoring circles: Participants from all levels of the organization propose and own a topic before meeting in groups to discuss the topic, which motivates them to grow and become more knowledgeable. Flash mentoring is ideal for situations like job shadowing and reverse mentoring. Flash mentoring: A short-term form of mentoring that focuses on single meetings rather than a traditional, long-term mentoring relationship.[32]” -Wikipedia. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support

Hi, I'm Adam DeSanctis. This is the Mortgage Minute, the latest news from the Mortgage Bankers Association. Last week, the CFPB published a spring edition of its supervisory highlights focused solely on mortgage servicing. The Bureau's report generally highlights improper assessments of fees and violations of the loss mitigation process and covers examinations that were completed by the Bureau from April 1st of last year through December 31st. Most of the findings appear to involve minor infractions that have been remediated by the servicer. However, MBA in a LinkedIn post by SVP of Residential Policy, Pete Mills, called out the Bureau's press release for its misleading and harmful rhetoric against mortgage servicers by inappropriately ascribing isolated incidents of noncompliance as a general state of the industry. The LinkedIn post, which can be read in full on Pete Mills page or as a repost on MBA's main LinkedIn page, Call the bureau's press release a “disservice to consumers by further sowing fear and distrust of their mortgage servicer”. Looking ahead, the bureau's expected to conduct potential rulemaking to amend the servicing rules of Regulation and be able to keep you updated on this in all issues pertaining to the bureau. That's it for this week. Thank you for listening.

Yesterday, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) released a notice of proposed rulemaking that would allow the agency to supervise and conduct examinations of certain non-bank providers of digital wallets and payment apps. The move is intended to address perceived “regulatory arbitrage by ensuring large technology firms and other nonbank payments companies are subjected to appropriate oversight,” according to CFPB Director Rohit Chopra. https://www.kelleydrye.com/viewpoints/blogs/ad-law-access/cfpb-issues-proposed-rule-to-expand-supervisory-authority-conduct-examinations-of-digital-wallets-and-mobile-payment-apps Donnelly McDowell dmcdowell@kelleydrye.com (202) 342-8645 https://www.kelleydrye.com/people/donnelly-l-mcdowell Matthew Luzadder mluzadder@kelleydrye.com (312) 857-2623 https://www.kelleydrye.com/people/matthew-c-luzadder Alex Schneider aschneider@kelleydrye.com (202) 342-8634 https://www.kelleydrye.com/people/alexander-i-schneider Subscribe to the Ad Law Access blog - www.kelleydrye.com/subscribe Subscribe to the Ad Law News Newsletter - www.kelleydrye.com/subscribe View the Advertising and Privacy Law Resource Center - www.kelleydrye.com/advertising-and-privacy-law Find all of our links here linktr.ee/KelleyDryeAdLaw Hosted by Simone Roach

Inspired by my conversation in the last episode with Dr. Andrea Celenza, today I want to talk about tolerating paradoxes and about love in the context of therapy. In our conversation and in her book, Sexual Boundary Violations, Dr. Celenza discusses the concept of the “multiple irreducible levels of reality in the therapeutic relationship.” None of those multiple realities is more or less real than the others and it's essential that we, as clinicians, maintain our awareness of them. Yes, it's hard. These multiple realities evoke a whole range of relationships and power structures that often contradict each other. Of course it's hard. But when we try to collapse these realities, that's where we get into trouble. I want to unpack what that means for us in our therapist-client relationships, and how it requires us to hold and tolerate those multiple realities.Listen to the full episode to hear: Three essential layers in the therapeutic relationship How the relationship dynamics that arise out of transference and countertransference are both real and useful, even when they contradict each other The paradoxical axes of power in the therapist-client relationship How multiplicity and power bump up against each other and why we have to tolerate the tension How collapsing the paradox of multiple realities in the dyad creates problems with intimacy–being either exploitative or superficial Why too little intimacy in the therapist-client relationship is a significant problem How love and grief show up in therapeutic relationships Learn more about Riva Stoudt: Into the Woods Counseling Instagram Resources: Season 2 Ep 07: Let's Talk About Sex: A Humane Approach to Sexual Boundary Violations with Dr. Andrea Celenza Lynda Barry Season 2 Ep 4: What Happens When Our Clients Encounter Our Humanity? In this episode, Jenn has a lively conversation with Ann Mausbach and Kimberly Morrison about their book Differentiated Supervision: Growing Teachers and Getting Results and how much of an impact you can have as a school leader by EXPANDING your supervisory practices beyond the typical individual observation and feedback we all do. Instead, they suggest we include other practices such as observing teacher teams and giving feedback to the whole school. And observing for themes throughout the school and giving whole-school feedback. There's a lot to their DIFFERENTIATED SUPERVISION model so listen in to learn more. This process is so effective that Kim Morrison (a current principal) has seen a 40% improvement in student achievement in 4 years using this differentiated supervision model. In a pivotal House Oversight Committee hearing, two IRS whistleblowers launched severe allegations against high-ranking Justice Department and IRS officials, accusing them of sabotaging their comprehensive investigation into Hunter Biden, President Biden's son, while favoring an unequal application of tax law for political purposes. These whistleblowers forcefully claimed that despite unearthing compelling evidence of Hunter Biden's criminal activities and recommending criminal charges, their efforts were systematically obstructed by officials, including a blockage of an inquiry linked to President Biden himself. In this episode of The P.A.S. Report Podcast, Professor Nick Giordano talks with retired FBI Supervisory Intelligence Analyst and courageous whistleblower, George Hill. Together, they delve deep into the heart of America's institutions, unraveling the unsettling transformation of these entities into politically weaponized tools. They trace the origins of this troubling phenomenon back to the aftermath of the September 11th attacks, shedding light on the gradual morphing of policies and the alarming consequences that ensued. As they navigate the landscape of unchecked abuses of power, they highlight the glaring warning signs that went unheeded, allowing those in positions of authority to evade accountability. This discussion underscores a chilling reality: when the very bedrocks of our government, the most potent and influential institutions, succumb to political weaponization, the very fabric of our Republic faces an existential threat. The Apollo Case Study Series returns with a conversation that many Behavior Analysts will likely resonate with. In this episode, I speak with Kristen Vaughn, Vice President of Clinical Operations of Apollo Behavior. We discuss her career arc, and focus on her transition from providing mainly clinical services to her current role in executive management. We cover her early clinical experiences, what it's like to get direct and perhaps difficult to hear feedback, the challenges of letting go of clinical duties, and what it's like to work with a leadership coach. If you're a BCBA, or an aspiring one, chances are, you'll have to supervise the work of others in some capacity, so there are many great lessons in this episode for you. Related to this, we talked about the book, Motivating human service staff: Supervisory strategies for maximizing work effort and work enjoyment, by Reid and Parsons. It, along with The Supervisor's Guidebook: Evidence-Based Strategies for Promoting Work Quality and Enjoyment Among Human Service Staff, should be considered must-reads for those in supervisory positions.
