Alle Fotos: Was audio?
Executive Producer: Christoph Falke & Ruben Schulze-FröhlichProjektleitung: Lukas HambrechtSounddesign & Produktion: Fabian SchäfflerMarketing und Ansprechpartner: Bastian SchonauerCopyrights Cover: www.oldtimer-markt.de Hosted on Acast. Jason Brown turns to insurance, AI, and retail for today's Big 3 as markets sell off over uncertainty on the U.S.-Iran War. He considers Travelers (TRV) a resilient stock in time of turbulence, doesn't see the rally in Arm Holdings (ARM) lasting, and calls Ross Stores (ROST) as a "necessity" trade with strong technical trends. This week on the KPL Podcast we have local Missouri author and historian Sean Rost. We discuss his new book, Catching Hell from All Quarters: Anti-Klan Activists in Interwar Missouri. He's taken a deep dive into rebirth of the Ku Klux Klan during interwar Missouri. Rost will focus on several notable figures who comprised an interracial, interdenominational, and bipartisan anti-Klan coalition whose opposition to the hooded order largely stymied the Klan's efforts to wield substantial influence and political power in Missouri.

In this discourse, I engage with key team members Saar van Bemmel and Joost Dracht, who elucidate the evolution of ROST from an initiative aimed at nurturing young sailors to a formidable force within the realm of offshore competitions. They articulate the rigorous training regimen that encompasses not only the mastery of sailing techniques but also the cultivation of teamwork and collaboration among crew members. Furthermore, the conversation delves into the various roles aboard the vessel, particularly emphasizing the importance of effective communication and trust, which are paramount during high-stakes races such as the Admiral's Cup and the illustrious Fastnet Race. Ultimately, this episode offers a comprehensive insight into the dedication and camaraderie that define ROST, as well as the pivotal influence of their coach, Gert-Jan Poortman, in shaping the team's identity and competitive spirit.Situated in the heart of Rotterdam, the Royal Rowing and Sailing Society de Maas stands as a historical emblem that interlinks the urban landscape with the aquatic realms it embraces. Over the course of 175 years, this prestigious institution has become synonymous with maritime excellence, serving as a pivotal gathering point for both iconic figures and promising talents alike. In this enlightening discourse, I engage with Saar van Bemmel and Joost Dracht from the Rotterdam Offshore Sailing Team (ROST), exploring the inception and evolution of a squad that aims to elevate youth sailors from small dinghies to formidable ocean-going vessels. Joost elucidates the team's genesis, which arose nearly a decade ago with a clear vision: to provide aspiring young sailors with a pathway towards competitive sailing on larger boats, thereby fostering a new generation of seafarers ready to take on the challenges of the open sea. The conversation delves into the unique training methodologies employed by ROST, which amalgamates both educational and performance-oriented strategies. Each year of the program is distinctly structured to cultivate the sailors' skills: the initial phase focuses on familiarization with the boat and team dynamics, while the subsequent years emphasize competitive sailing and performance optimization. This progressive trajectory culminates in participation in elite competitions, such as the Atmos Cup, where the sailors are afforded the opportunity to test their mettle against the world's best. The team's approach, characterized by a blend of amateur spirit and professional ambition, underscores their commitment to excellence while maintaining a supportive and constructive training environment. As we navigate through topics of preparation, teamwork, and the psychological demands of offshore racing, it becomes evident that the ethos of ROST is deeply rooted in collaboration and mutual respect. The team members articulate how their experiences have forged not only their sailing prowess but also a profound sense of camaraderie that enhances their collective performance on the water. The episode culminates in a reflection on the significance of representation and the pride that comes with sailing under the banner of the Royal Society, as the sailors express their aspirations for future generations to continue the legacy of maritime excellence established by their predecessors. In this episode, the intricate tapestry of offshore sailing is unraveled as we engage with the dynamic experiences of the Rotterdam Offshore Sailing Team. The conversation offers a profound exploration into the world of competitive sailing, revealing the rigorous training, strategic planning, and the emotional resilience required to succeed in high-stakes offshore competitions. Central to our discussion is the Admiral's Cup, an event of considerable prestige that epitomizes the pinnacle of sailing prowess. Saar and Joost recount their participation in this formidable competition, highlighting the intense preparation that preceded the event and the exhilarating atmosphere that enveloped them as they faced seasoned professionals from around the globe. Joost shares insights into the multifaceted nature of the competition, which encompasses various racing formats, thereby testing sailors on numerous fronts. The narrative conveys the palpable excitement of competing against the best, juxtaposed with the inherent challenges posed by unpredictable weather and the complex dynamics of teamwork aboard the vessel. We delve into the team's strategic preparations, which include physical training regimens and meticulous planning for each role aboard, ensuring that every member contributes effectively to the collective goal of achieving victory. The discussion further elucidates the significance of mental fortitude in navigating the psychological stresses of long-distance races, where every decision and maneuver can have far-reaching consequences. Ultimately, this episode serves as a testament to the dedication and passion that underpin the world of offshore sailing. It encapsulates the transformative journey of young sailors as they strive for excellence while fostering a deep-rooted sense of community and shared purpose. The reflections on their experiences not only illuminate the rigorous demands of the sport but also celebrate the joy and fulfillment that comes from pursuing one's passion on the open waters. Through this dialogue, we invite listeners to appreciate the rich narrative of competitive sailing, as we explore the intersection of ambition, teamwork, and the relentless pursuit of excellence in the maritime domain.Takeaways:The Rotterdam Offshore Sailing Team, established nine years ago, aims to elevate young sailors to higher competitive levels within the sailing community. The team operates with a unique blend of amateurism and professionalism, emphasizing performance while fostering a supportive environment among its members.A rigorous three-year training program is in place, focusing on skills development, teamwork, and the physical demands of offshore sailing competitions. The recent participation in the prestigious Admiral's Cup highlighted the team's growth and adaptability, showcasing their ability to compete against seasoned professionals. The importance of teamwork and communication was emphasized, especially during high-pressure situations like the Fastnet race, where trust among crew members is paramount.Gert-Jan Poortman's coaching has significantly shaped the team's approach, instilling a sense of responsibility and encouraging independent problem-solving among sailors.Companies mentioned in this episode:Koninklijke Roei- en Zeilvereniging de MaasRotterdam Offshore Sailing TeamROSTAtmos CupAdmiral's CupRORCVolvo Ocean RaceFatship

While Ross Stores (ROST) soared on stronger-than-expected earnings, Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) sold off. Diane King Hall compares the reports to show why price action is moving in opposite directions for these retailers. After the Firestorm – Bomb Disposal in Wartime HamburgWith Thomas RostNever Mind the Dambusters – Series 4Content NoteThis episode includes discussion of forced labour, concentration camp inmates, and civilian casualties. Listener discretion is advised. In this episode, Jane Gulliford Lowes turns to a largely hidden chapter of the bombing war: bomb disposal in Hamburg during and after the Second World War.While the Battle of Hamburg in mid-1943 — known to the Allies as Operation Gomorrah — is often remembered for the scale of destruction and the firestorm that engulfed the city, far less attention is paid to what followed. Long after the raids ended, unexploded bombs continued to pose a deadly threat, demanding dangerous and morally complex work on the ground.Joining Jane is Thomas Rost, a German historian and returning guest on the podcast, whose research examines bomb disposal in Hamburg and the career of Walter Merz, a central figure in this story. In this episode, we discuss:How Germany prepared for bomb disposal before the warWho was responsible for clearing unexploded ordnanceThe roles of organisations such as the Reichsluftschutzbund, Luftwaffe, Luftschutzpolizei, and Sicherheits- und HilfsdienstHow bomb disposal functioned once the bombing war intensifiedThe use of forced labourers and prisoners for dangerous clearance workWalter Merz's background and rise as a bomb disposal specialistBomb disposal during and after the Gomorrah raids on HamburgThe SS's use of concentration camp inmates for unexploded bomb clearanceWhy bomb disposal continued long after 1945The 1957 Hamburg-Harburg detonation and renewed public attentionMerz's later life, public profile, and memorial workWhether unexploded bombs remain a threat in Hamburg todayNewsreel of the Harburg Incident: The Harburg incident starts at minute 1:42https://digitaler-lesesaal.bundesarchiv.de/video/31072/721973 A 25 minute feature in German: https://www.ardmediathek.de/video/norddeutsche-geschichte-n/sprengmeister-merz/ndr/Y3JpZDovL25kci5kZS9lMTE1MzQxZC04ZmJjLTRjYjEtYTMxMC00NjcxNTU0NTgwNGUSupport the showPlease subscribe to Never Mind The Dambusters wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, it's Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul, and it's Wow Wednesday. I always try to share awe-inspiring or surprising stories with you on Wednesdays, and I have new ones for you from our latest bestseller, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Pets, Pets, Pets. This book has been a big success, and I think it's because of the tremendous variety of pets we talk about and all the different ways in which they become part of their humans' lives. One of those ways is through being rehabbed. Our writers are a great bunch of people and it's amazing how many of them have gone way beyond anyone's expectations in saving injured animals--both domestic pets and wild animals. Today I'm going to share a couple of stories from people who found a lot of joy in helping out those animals, starting with J.A. Rost. She tells us that her daughter called to say that her husband Brad had rescued a baby bat, and they were going to try and save it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Likefolio's Landon Swan says Ross Stores (ROST) is “blowing the [retail] thesis up” as it roars ahead. He notes strength in women's apparel and beauty, along with more high-income shoppers. The company also expects tariffs to ease or normalize soon. However, he thinks investors have high expectations going into earnings, which could make it harder to climb higher.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors. Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
Would you like access to our advanced agency training for FREE? https://www.agencymastery360.com/training Is your agency growing fast but still running without the right structure or leadership team to sustain that growth? If too many people are reporting directly to you, it's a clear sign you've outgrown your current setup. But building that next layer of leadership isn't as simple as promoting your top performers. Without a clear strategy, those well-intentioned promotions can backfire, causing confusion, turnover, and setbacks that stall your agency's momentum. Today's featured guest learned that lesson firsthand. After experiencing a year of costly turnover caused by the wrong management moves, he came away with a better understanding of what real leadership development looks like. In this episode, he'll share what it takes to scale beyond seven figures, the mistakes that nearly derailed his agency's growth, and the key shifts that helped him build a stronger, more sustainable business. Brandon Rost is the founder and CEO of be Marketing, a Pennsylvania-based advertising agency that helps brands grow through creative, digital, and media strategies. Over the past decade and a half, Brandon has built his agency from a solo operation into a multi-million-dollar powerhouse by focusing on relationships, resourcefulness, and relentless problem-solving. He's proof that you don't need to have all the answers when you start, just the willingness to figure it out along the way. In this episode, we'll discuss: How to reinvest profits strategically to scale your agency sustainably. Why promoting top performers doesn't already create effective leaders. The KPI's and systems that improved profit and cash flow. The mindset shift that turns fast growth into longterm success. At the time, he was managing social media for a corporate job and bartending on the side when a PR firm owner offered him a shot at managing her clients' social accounts. What started as ten small accounts quickly snowballed into a full-time business. Like most early-stage entrepreneurs, he had no idea what he was doing at first. He sent invoices in Word documents, figured out HR and finance on the fly, and said "yes" to every opportunity—then learned how to deliver later. It wasn't glamorous, but it worked. That resourcefulness became his superpower. As anyone who has grown a business can tell you, success comes from resourcefulness - not knowing everything. You don't have to know everything right now. Just figure it out and make it work. Scaling Up: Investing Every Dollar Back In the Agency For the first few years, Brandon kept bartending to cover his bills and put every dollar the agency made back into growth. That discipline gave him the runway to build a real company without debt or short-term panic. He hired his first part-time employee within a year, went full-time around year two, and hit seven figures by year four in 2014. However, crossing the million-dollar mark didn't come with confetti and fireworks. It came with more responsibility, more moving parts, and a steeper learning curve. "Everyone thinks hitting a million feels different," Brandon said. "It doesn't. It just brings on more work." Instead of waiting for that milestone to magically change things, focus on building the right foundation so the business can continue to grow without you doing everything. Make it a point to continue to delegate part of that workload every quarter, and after a couple of years, you'll find you've gotten your freedom back. Learning to Lead and Let Go: Building a Leadership Team Brandon learned the hard way that leading people requires a completely different skill set than landing clients. As the agency grew, he at one point had seventeen people reporting to him and eventually realized it just wasn't sustainable. It was the right moment to create different positions that would oversee different departments. However, his strategy was flawed at first; "We elevated people just to elevate them," he said. "And it set us back a year." He never stopped to ask whether or not those employees were ready or even suited for management roles. As a result, they dealt with a year of turnover followed by slowly getting back on track. The lesson for Brandon was: put the right people in the right seats, and don't assume your best technician wants to—or should—manage others. Leadership isn't a promotion; it's a whole new role. Knowing Your Numbers and Turning Chaos Into Profitability Once the business hit its stride, Brandon turned his focus to profitability. He shared how the agency once got caught in a dangerous cash flow loop of collecting Google ad payments for clients and effectively becoming a bank instead of a marketing firm. After untangling that, his team started tracking key KPIs more closely: AGI (Agency Gross Income) in the 55–60% range Net profit around 10–12% Payroll around 33% of AGI By simplifying operations and separating client media costs from agency revenue, they stabilized cash flow and built a healthier margin. Simply put, what you measure improves and, for Brandon, that meant finally treating the numbers as a steering wheel instead of a rearview mirror. Sales: The Last Most Agency Owners Are Ready to Hang Up Even after 15 years, Brandon still handles most of the sales himself. It's something he admits he should've delegated earlier, but building a sales team isn't as easy as hiring a "radio guy" and hoping they sell. After two failed attempts, Brandon realized the problem wasn't the salespeople but rather the lack of systems. Now, the new plan is to support the team with brand marketing, create a "sales tackle box" full of proven client stories, and build repeatable processes for outreach, follow-up, and closing. You'll always be the best salesperson until you document what's in your head. With the right structure and stories in place, a sales team can finally scale what made the founder successful in the first place. What Scaling Fast Taught Him About Patience and Culture Looking back, Brandon said the biggest surprise was how much patience real growth takes—and how easy it is to lose sight of culture while scaling fast. Whether it was figuring out HR policies, managing team dynamics, or setting boundaries for office events, every new level came with a new layer of learning. He now focuses on balance: growing deliberately, empowering leaders, and making sure the culture that got them here doesn't get lost along the way. "We've learned to grow smarter, not faster," he said. Do You Want to Transform Your Agency from a Liability to an Asset? Looking to dig deeper into your agency's potential? focus. The Fed released their meeting minutes yesterday which were more hawkish than expected. President Trump called for the resignation of Fed Gov Lisa Cook due to questions over her personal finances. The move is seen as an attempt to stack the Fed with members who are inclined to lower short term rates. Lowering short-term interest rates in an environment of rising inflation tends to cause long-term rates to move higher, which can negatively impact the markets. The Fed's Jackson Hole event starts today; this event is expected to have significant policy implications for inflation, growth, and central bank strategy going forward. John Grace breaks down the mixed earnings reports from Ross Stores (ROST) and Walmart (WMT), highlighting concerns over consumer debt, tariffs, and the potential for a market correction. S&P Futures are displaying some mild weakness this morning and are in need of a catalyst for direction. The key news event over the weekend was the Trump Putin summit. This afternoon, President Trump is expected to meet with European leaders including Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. The Fed's Jackson Hole event starts this week, Chairman Powell is scheduled to speak on Friday. Powell is likely to come across as dovish even though inflation and employment data have been sending mixed signals. Dayforce (DAY) shares are higher this morning due to takeover speculation. This is a key week for the retail sector with earnings announcements on tap from HD, WMT, TJX. TGT, ROST, LOW, BABA & BKE.
Tsvetta Kaleynska says $WMT is "top of mind" for retailer earnings on Thursday, calling it a "leader" in A.I. integration.
