In keeping with its fellow '70s and '80s horror movies, The Return of the Living Dead (1985) delivers a classic tale about an official governmental goof — which makes for some interesting timing considering that it's set right around the Fourth of July. This week on Spooky Tuesday, we decided to celebrate the holiday and the anniversary of the film's (totally true, just peep that title card) events in one fell swoop. On our latest episode, we're keeping the party time (zombie version) going as we enjoy this flick's killer soundtrack, discuss potential throuples, and get into a serious debate about who exactly is the dumbest of the dumb bitches.  References:https://www.looper.com/985409/the-untold-truth-of-the-return-of-the-living-dead/https://filmschoolrejects.com/commentary-the-return-of-the-living-dead-1985-d603d9c85c06/https://1428elm.com/2018/05/10/return-living-dead-subverting-takes-brains/ https://deepai.org/publication/post-mortem-iris-decomposition-and-its-dynamics-in-morgue-conditions

Also, stay tuned to listen to us talk about Halloween Kills (2022) and Lord of the Rings: Ring of Powers (2022) Season 1.  Quick Facts Directed by Tobe Hooper Screenplay by Dan O'Bannon and Don Jakoby (Death Wish 3 and Vampires) Distributed by Cannon Pictures Released on June 6, 1986 Budget: $7 million Box Office: $4.9 million Starring Karen Black as Linda Magnuson (the school nurse) Hunter Carson as David Gardner Timothy Bottoms as George Gardner Laraine Newman as Ellen Gardner James Karen as General Climet Wilson Bud Cort as Nasa Scientist Louise Fletcher as Mrs. Mckeltch (Best known as Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest) VHS Description Starring Karen Black, Hunter Carson, Timothy Bottoms, Laraine Newman, James Karen, Bud Cort, and Louise Fletcher. The classic ‘50s cold war sci-fi horror film is transformed into a monstrously gripping, modern special effects tour-de-force! Director Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre I, and II) brings his own uniquely spectacular vision to this masterful new version of everyone's favorite “alien invasion” tale! A courageous young boy battles the hideous Martians who have “taken over” his parents (Laraine Newman and Timothy Bottoms) – and who now threaten to subjugate the entire planet! Also caught up in the terrifying action are Oscar winner Louise Fletcher (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) and Karen Black (Easy Rider, Savage Dawn). Truly unearthly creature design and make-up techniques blend with the astonishing special visual effects of Academy Award winner John Dykstra (Star Wars). A breathtaking, pulse-pounding science fiction mind-blower! How to find Analog Jones Discuss these movies and more on our Facebook page. Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast

GGACP celebrates the birthday of the late, great character actor James Karen (b. November 28, 1923) with this ENCORE of a memorable interview from 2015. In this episode, James talks about spending seven decades on the big and small screen, befriending the legendary Buster Keaton, sharing a house with Marlon Brando and Wally Cox and working with Jane Fonda, James Garner, Gene Hackman, Robert Redford and Steven Spielberg (just to name a few). Also, James "sells" Craig T. Nelson a haunted house, Clark Gable parties with Louis B. Mayer, a Boy Scout uniform leads to an acting career and a controversial "Jeffersons" episode nearly sinks a plum TV pitchman gig. PLUS: "Return of the Living Dead"! It's not easy being a leading man in a genre that is primarily known for Scream Queens and masked maniacs. But Thom Mathews is truly one of the great leading men of horror. As Freddy in the beloved zombie classic Return of the Living Dead (Joey in its sequel) and Friday the 13th series hero Tommy Jarvis in franchise favorite Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Thom has managed the difficult balance of being both heroic and vulnerable in films that are often thought to be populated by stock characters.Thom and I chat about his experience on Return of the Living Dead, learning comedic timing from heavyweights like James Karen and Clu Gulager; his days running around LA auditioning while rooming with pal George Clooney; making a huge rock designed to drag Jason Vorhees to the bottom of Crystal Lake NOT look like it was made of Styrofoam; and his love of being creative not just as an actor, but also building homes for the who's who of Hollywood. For Kevin Lane, one of the joys of hosting this show is getting to meet the icons of his childhood, and Thom is certainly one of them. He brings a ton of heart to his work and plenty of BRRRAAAIIINNNSSS. Yep, we went there. Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. The gang discuss everything from Steve and Izzy's absolute undying love of this film, all of the insane accents, terrible CGI lava, the love story between Peter and Amy the gorilla, Delroy Lindo's cameo and much more. The guys also drop a hint for next week's movie. Check on Facebook or Twitter on Monday for the reveal! What We've Been Watching: "Oz" "Venture Bros." Ninja Cheerleaders Cam Questions? Comments? WE HAVE AN INTRO BY LINNEA QUIGLEY!This week, we explore one of my favorite films of all time! Ash, Kelsey and I go zombie punk with Return of the Living Dead. We go deep on this 80's staple, and we also get to discus what we have been enjoying in the world of film and television. I really struggled with this one, not only do I get to talk about this classic, but we also got a intro from Trash (Linnea Quigley). I was so excited; it was hard to stay on track. Through the power of editing and Kelsey keeping Ash and I focused, we bring you this blood-soaked tail of love, punk and zombies. So sit back, grab your baseball bat and enjoy! The Return of the Living Dead is a 1985 American comedy horror film written and directed by Dan O'Bannon, and starring Clu Gulager, James Karen, Thom Matthews and Don Calfa. The film tells the story of how a warehouse owner, accompanied by his two employees, mortician friend, and a group of teenage punks, deal with the accidental release of a horde of brain-hungry zombies onto an unsuspecting town. The film, described as a "mordant punk comedy", is known for introducing the popular concept of zombies eating brains, as opposed to eating human flesh, like previous zombie iterations. It is also known as the first film to ever show zombies running, as well as zombies being able to speak. The film is also quite unique from virtually all other cinematic depictions of the living dead, in that the zombies portrayed in the film cannot be killed by a standard "head shot".

This is a re-post of Episode 3 (from before horrorhaven.com lost all its files) in which Re-Gor and Spencey Domepiece discuss the classic 1982 film Poltergeist, and the lackluster (and highly unnecessary) 2015 remake. The remake is so forgettable that our intrepid hosts have trouble remembering the synopsis as they are doing it! One eggregious error we had was in discussing the cast, we neglected to talk about the late, great character actor James Karen who played Steve Freeling's boss, Mr. Teague. James had an illustrious career that spanned from 1948 to 2018! He was in tons of TV shows including, As the World Turns, Car 54 Where Are You?, The Bionic Woman, Hawaii 5-0, and the Jeffersons among many many others. Some of his film credits include, Capricorn One, The Jazz Singer (1980), The Return of the Living Dead I & II, and Mullholland Drive, just to name a few. Once you see him, you'll realize you've seen him in tons of stuff! If you want to chime in about the movies, please email us at thenisnow42@gmail.com or leave us a voicemail at 978-432-9079. One of Jake's all time favorite movies and he completed wasted it by letting Bob from No Redeeming Qualities guest host on it... uh, I mean, yay Bob... or whatever. In all seriousness, we would like to thank Bob for taking the time to join in on this episode and yell even more than Jake... which we legitimately did not know was possible. You can find their show at https://nrqpodcast.com/ (Re)written and directed by the late and great, Dan O'Bannon (Alien, Dark Star, Lifeforce). The film is loosely based on John Russo's novel of the same name, following his falling out with George A. Romero, with whom he worked on Night of the Living Dead. The film features great performances by veteran character actors Clu Gulager, James Karen, and Don Calfa. The film also features several actors, who were fledgling talents at the time: Thom Matthews, Miguel A. Núñez Jr., and Mark Venturini (all of whom worked on the Friday the 13th Franchise). The illustrious, Linnea Quigley, steals the show as "Trash." Nevermind the prosthetic genitalia and the fact that she is the only zombie to cosplay as a demon, her performance is great and we will not entertain any debate otherwise. The practical effects and puppetry on the film are the things of legend. Allan Trautman played the now infamous Tarman or Barrel Zombie. His work included Muppets Tonight, Unhappily Ever After, Greg the Bunny, and Monkeybone. Tony Gardner, who would go on to do makeup effects for Hellboy and Zombieland, made the half zombie. He was also in the Thriller music video by Michael Jackson! This week's "Hidden Track" is by Ill Fortune. In the third and final installment, we resolve our Part 2 cliffhanger with our in-depth conversation with Jennifer Lynn Warren and Pruitt Taylor Vince. We also begin with an emotional discussion about the BBC Dr. Who series. Jennifer is moved to tears by the character River Song (played by Alex Kingston) and explains how she puts that emotion to good use. Next Frank Dietz and Jennifer compare notes on having to appear naked on screen and on stage. We talk about the difference between being nude in front of a live audience (as in the play “Equus”) and the experience of stripping down for a feature film. Following a lively round table discussion of the current state of television series, Pruitt admits that he has never seen a Julia Roberts movie and can’t make it all the way through CADDYSHACK – which prompts some questionable Rodney Dangerfield impressions. Jack wants to know from our distinguished guests what movies they saw when younger that impacted their decisions to become actors. We close out by paying tribute to two genre giants who left us last year. First actor and friend James Karen, who starred in POLTERGEIST, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD and the Trish Geiger produced DARK AND STORMY NIGHT. This leads to a sidebar discussion with Scott about Karen's dear friend, the great Buster Keaton. Then we honor Stan Lee, the creator of Spider-man and lord and master of the Marvel comics universe whose work and collaborators have made a huge impact on popular culture. It’s another episode filled with laughs and surprises, with two terrific actors who are so entertaining we couldn’t squeeze them into just two episodes.   Look for photos and show notes on this episode at our Damn Dirty Geeks website.

Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast

Character actor extraordinaire James Karen has appeared in over 80 movies, over 100 television shows and a staggering 5,000 TV commercials. In a career spanning nearly 7 decades (!), he's worked with Frederic March, Lauren Bacall, James Garner, Gene Hackman, Steven Spielberg, Jane Fonda, Robert Redford and Will Smith, to name but a few. Gilbert and Frank phoned James one recent Saturday night to cover a VERY wide range of topics, including his film debut in the immortal "Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster," his years-long friendship with the legendary Buster Keaton and his experience sharing a townhouse with Marlon Brando, Wally Cox and Maureen Stapleton. Also, James "sells" Craig T. Nelson a haunted house, a Boy Scout uniform leads to an acting career and a controversial "Jeffersons" episode nearly torpedoes a plum TV pitchman gig. PLUS: James parties with Clark Gable and Louis B. Mayer! Gilbert gets a one-cent residual check! Moe Howard recites from "The Tempest"! And James teaches a teenaged Michael Douglas to drive!
