It's been a good minute! We're excited to drop our latest conversation on Bookie, an underrated sitcom-series on Max created by Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay. The show basically follows Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), a bookie, and Ray (Omar Dorsey), his muscle, as they deal with an unorthodox profession in Los Angeles. Shenanigans ensue in the form of unstable clients, greedy family members, and random imbroglios. It's funny, filled with clever banter, and quite observant of Los Angeles culture; sadly, it was cancelled prematurely. We talk about its merits and lament the impatience of modern studios/platforms when it comes to letting shows find their audience. Enjoy!

Arnetia Walker has lit up stages and screens for decades and she joins us this week to review her stunning show biz resume, including her latest entry, Bookie, the Chuck Lorre Max comedy on which she is currently slaying as Grandma. We are also joined by artist and Holocaust Survivor Erika Kahn, a first-hand witness to the consequences of authoritarian rule, scapegoating, and nationally sanctioned brutality. Erika offers vital insight for us in our fight against a dangerous wave of fascism.Orphaned as a child, Arnetia Walker's showbiz career began at New York City's High School for the Performing Arts where her talent and dreams were nurtured and encouraged. Arnetia was embraced by a similar culture of community and support when she won her first Broadway role with Hal Linden in The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window and then A Raisin in the Sun. Both  Lorraine Hansberry's plays. With a favorable alignment of the stars and talent recognition from Michael Bennet, Arnetia went from understudying Stephanie Mills in The Wiz to co-starring in Dreamgirls… a show within which she ultimately played every starring character. (But not on the same night.) As gifted an actor as she is a singer, Arnetia talks about her slew of TV appearances, including her lead role in the Witt Thomas Harris sitcom, Nurses and the circumstances under which that part prevented her from being cast in  E.R.Currently, she is stealing every scene as the ruthlessly direct Grandma in Bookie. Arnetia shares what it's like to work with Chuck Lorre and Sebastian Maniscalco. She tells us about her cabaret era and her passion for cooking and she boldly takes on a round of IMDB Roulette that jars some treasured TV memories! Then, Centenarian Erika Kahn recalls her childhood in Nazi Germany, and she contrasts and compares the climate which led to the Nazi atrocities with that of our current perilous pivot point in America. Erika is a tenacious activist whose words of hope and optimism are essential for those of us taking on the rise of American fascism. In recommendations --Fritz: Netflix Series 'American Manhunt: OJ Simpson'Weezy: The Movie 'Studio One Forever' (2023), streaming on several platforms Path Points of Interest:Arnetia WalkerArnetia Walker on IMDBArnetia Walker on WikipediaArnetia Walker on TiktokBookieErika KahnWe Played Marbles: Remembering A Stolen ChildhoodA documentary featuring Erika KahnAmerican Manhunt: O.J. LISA EDELSTEIN - From her role as Dr. Lisa Cuddy on the hit Fox series “House” to her star turn as Abby McCarthy in Bravo's first scripted series “Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce,” Lisa Edelstein's range of roles are as diverse as her talent. “Girlfriends' Guide” is a dramedy following a best-selling author of a self-help series who separates from her husband and must navigate big career changes and the dating world as a newly single mother. Edelstein also starred in the Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and AFI Award-winning Netflix series “The Kominsky Method,” starring Michael Douglas and created by Chuck Lorre. Edelstein plays Phoebe, the drug-addled hot mess daughter of Alan Arkin's character. In addition, she juggled an arc on Ryan Murphy's “911: Lonestar” which reunites her with her “West Wing” paramour, Rob Lowe. She portrayed his call-girl girlfriend on the show. GINA TORRES - Gina Torres has spent the past thirty years establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the screen. With her fan-favorite character of Jessica Pearson on USA Network's hit original series “Suits,” Torres broke boundaries when, in 2019, she became the first Afro-Latina to create, star in and produce a TV series, “Pearson,” which saw Jessica take on the world of Chicago politics. The role was a life changing one, earning Torres an ALMA Award, an Imagen Award (as well as multiple additional Imagen nominations), and the National Hispanic Media Coalition's Award for Outstanding Performance in a Television Series and the Visionary Award from the LA Femme Film Festival. Currently, Torres can be seen on FOX's “9-1-1: Lone Star,” portraying paramedic captain Tommy Vega, who answered a call to action and returned to work amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. "Mom" is an sitcom that premiered on CBS and had an eight season run from 2013-2021. The show stars Anna Faris as Christy, a single mother who is a recovering alcoholic and a waitress. Another series from the mind of creator Chuck Lorre, but "Mom" drew a lot of its inspiration from co-creator Gemma Baker's experiences growing up with a mother in addiction recovery. As result the show tackles themes that aren't often explored through the eyes of the main character. The show received positive reviews from critics throughout its run for its handling of sensitive topics while still being able to find a nice balance and keep the tone of the show generally fun and entertaining. The show garnered several award nominations and wins, including multiple Primetime Emmy Awards and Critics' Choice Television Awards. But can "Mom" find a way to win over the S1E1 boys while tackling heavy issues in its pilot? Listen as they deep dive the shows first episode. "Bob Hearts Abishola" is a sitcom that aired on CBS from 2019-2024. Created by the legendary Chuck Lorre, the mastermind behind hit shows such as "Two and a Half Men", "The Big Bang Theory", & "Grace Under Fire" just to name a few. With this show, Lorre wanted to offer an interracial love story to a broad audience and by doing so gave us the first American sitcom to feature a Nigerian family. The series follows Bob Wheeler (played by Billy Gardell), a middle-aged compression sock salesman in Detroit who suffers a heart attack and ends up in the hospital. There, he meets Abishola Oluwakemi (played by Folake Olowofoyeku), a Nigerian immigrant who works as a nurse. Despite their cultural differences and initial misunderstandings, Bob becomes infatuated with Abishola, sparking a charming and unconventional love story. "Bob Hearts Abishola" has been praised for tackling important social issues with sensitivity and humor, while also celebrating the universal themes of love, family, and resilience. Will these themes resonate with the S1E1 guys who can often have offbeat senses of humor? Listen as they deep dive the show's pilot episode and find out. Starring: Billy Gardell, Folake Olowofoyeku, Christine Ebersole, Matt Jones, Maribeth Monroe, Shola Adewusi, Barry Shabaka Henley, Travis Wolfe Jr., Vernee Watson, & Gina Yashere www.S1E1POD.com Instagram & X (Twitter): @S1E1Pod

It's cold. You've had a long day as an industrial water treatment professional battling scale, corrosion, unwanted microbiological activity, and inefficiencies. You're tired. You just want to go home, kick your feet up, relax, and get warm. You forget to take your test kit out of the car. You wake up in the morning, drive to the next industrial water system, open up your test kit, and it is FROZEN SOLID!  What do you do? Do you run around in circles? Do you sit the test kit as closely to a boiler as you dare to thaw it out? Do you dunk it in hot water?  The first thing you should do is learn your lesson and never let your test kit freeze again. Ever. I'll admit, I learned this lesson the hard way. Next, I consulted with a trusty test-kit manufacturing expert, and his suggestion was to allow it to thaw at room temperature. He said do NOT artificially heat it, even in hot water.  Most reagents are likely to recover. To be safe, you should compare your test results to new reagents or another rep's results. Personally, I found my iodide/iodate titration solution used in the sulfite test was never the same after it froze and gave me low readings. You could also just replace all your reagents, but I understand that could get expensive.  Another thing to consider when a test kit freezes is the impact upon testing equipment such as the pH probe, which may have cracked or broken as its internal solution froze and expanded. Plus, plunging a cold pH probe into a warm solution may induce cracking as well. 2024 Events for Water Professionals Check out our Scaling UP! Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes.  During our previous coverage of the much discussed Variety article assessing the state of the MCU, one of the key takeaways was the supposed, fast-tracked plan to reunite the original Avengers line-up onscreen. Despite Variety's insider sources, this is apparently not the case, as both Captain America, Chris Evans, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige cast doubts on the possibility in separate statements last week. Feige addressed Robert Downey, Jr.'s Iron Man specifically, speaking to the finality of the character's fate, while Evans expressed how protective he was over his own role. The Internet unleashed an absolute slew of trailers this week; we've tabulated a total of seven high profile trailer releases and have narrowed it down to the four we feel most deserving to be featured in this week's edition of Trailer Park: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga The Boys Season 4 GTA VI Industry box office predictions for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's domestic opening are not optimistic, with the last gasp of the floundering DCEU expected to pull in a mere $40 million over the 4-day holiday weekend. Warner Bros' own projections are slightly more generous at $50 million. With that over/under, it's almost as if they knew about our little wager here. Chris Evans wasn't the only Avengers actor to go on record about his protectiveness and ownership of his role; speaking with Collider, Tom Holland indicated while conversations about another Spider-Man film were in the works, he wouldn't be returning to the role just for the sake of it. Eli Roth is working on a follow-up to his holiday-slasher, Thanksgiving, which has earned more than $30 million worldwide. The sequel is scheduled for release in 2025. Warner Brothers is developing a new spinoff of The Big Bang Theory. Although specifics about the setting or characters are not available yet, Chuck Lorre, the show's original creator, will be involved. The unveiling of the WandaVision box set has brought forth a sneak peek into the behind-the-scenes-making of Agatha Darkhold Diaries. The special features contain cast interviews, glimpses from the series production, and exclusive deleted scenes from WandaVision. Amazon has unveiled the initial glimpse of Fallout, an upcoming show inspired by the immensely popular video game series. Featuring Walton Goggins, the series is slated to premiere on Prime on April 12, 2024. HBO revealed the first trailer for Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon Season 2. The eight episode series will debut on Max next summer. Paramount+ has released its first trailer for season 2 of Halo, the series based on the video game franchise. The series will debut on February 8, 2024.  HBO also premiered a trailer for the fourth season of its anthology crime series, True Detective. Jodie Foster and Kali Reis portray detectives with troubled pasts, delving into the vanishing of eight scientists from an Arctic research base during the months of sunlight deprivation in Alaska. Robert Downey, Jr. said, during his Variety Actors on Actors interview with fellow Avenger Mark Ruffalo, “I hate it when people poo poo a genre, because they're all hard and they're all high art when they're done well.” Downey, Jr. and Ruffalo mainly discussed their 2023 projects Oppenheimer and Poor Things, respectively. The Spider-Man Noir series in the works at Prime has added The Punisher's Steve Lightfoot as showrunner. As previously reported in February, the untitled live action series will follow an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City. An individual with knowledge of the project says that the show will be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker.
