In this episode of ScaleUp Radio, we have a couple of presentations and a panel discussion on the theme of ‘how and why to define your core purpose'.   Do not underestimate the power of galvanising your team around a purpose. The longer I've been in business and the more businesses we have worked with, it is clear that those with a strong sense of core values and core purpose are the ones that succeed over time and go further than the others.  They also tend to be the most resilient in challenging times!     Purpose-driven workers are 54 percent more likely to stay for five years at a company and 30 percent more likely to grow into high performers than those who arrive at work with only their paycheck as the motivator.   In this episode, Louise guides us through what we need to think about and we bring in additional perspectives from Stu Avis of Audacious Creative and Lizzy Bernthal of Release Your Potential about their thoughts on core purpose, as well as an excellent piece on integrity by Lizzy.   The episode is wrapped up with a  panel discussion where a group of business owners discuss their take on core purpose and the importance to their businesses.     Presenters – Stu Avis – Audacious Creative - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/stu-avis Dr Lizzy Bernthal – Release Your Potential - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/lizzybernthal-resilience-specialist    David Lynes from Unique IQ - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/davidlynes  Clare Vale from Sign Solutions - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/clare-vale-6032b416  David Lincoln Lewis from Industrial Switchgear - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/david-lincoln-lewis-66242193  Hannah Haffield from Make More Noise PR - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/hannahhaffield  Nigel Busby from In Control Marketing - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/nigel-busby-310aa57  Dave Perrigo from Perrigo Consultants - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/daveperrigo  Jenny Powell from JDP Procurement - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/jenny-powell-987137a    Lisa Chambers from KMB Telemarketing - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/chamberslisa  Paul Rhodes from Green Gorilla - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/ukwebdevelopment  Matt Busby from The Name Label - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/matt-busby-79594b5  Gary MaWhinney from Platform 81 - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/gary-mawhinney-74569524  Matt Parsons from Surftech IT - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/matthew-parsons-a1515521  Faith Guest from Tools of the Trade - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/faith-guest-407a428  Jeremy Strong from Invoco Telecoms - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/jeremystrong  Stu Avis from Audacious Creative - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/stu-avis Peter Chatterley from Talent Hackers - https://uk.linkedin.com/in/thetalenthackers      Scaling up your business isn't easy, and can be a little daunting. Business Rhythms

On this week's episode of ScaleUp Radio we have a great presentation and discussion, all centred around Business Rhythms.   First of all, you'll hear from Granger Forson explaining a little more about Business Rhythms; what they are, how we should approach them and the benefit that implementing them can bring to your business.   Arguably, the Business Rhythm, alongside the 90 Day Planning that you will have heard us talk about before, is the most important part of running your business. Essentially, a Business Rhythm is a structure of daily, weekly and monthly meetings carefully put together to ensure that you bridge the gap between strategy and execution consistently well – ensuring that you do the right things and that they are done well.   Of course, most of you may already have a rhythm of sorts within your business – but we find that most rhythms are focused on the day to day and miss some really important aspects. We cover some of those and others, including:    - What you need to do to get the rhythm right. Maybe the rhythm you've already got isn't the right one for your business?  -  Why you should still create a rhythm, even if you're a solo business owner.  -  How casual encounters can ruin a good Business Rhythm   Of course, as always, there is so much more in the episode.   Also you'll hear a panel discussion where a group of business owners talk about their Business Rhythm; how they incorporate and maintain their own rhythm - and how you should go about creating and maintaining your own. A full list of the business owners featured in the panel discussion will be in the show notes.       Matthew Parsons of Surftech IT linkedin.com/in/matthew-parsons-a1515521   Matt Busby of The Name Label Company linkedin.com/in/matt-busby-79594b5   Stuart Avis of Audacious Creative linkedin.com/in/stu-avis   Lisa Chambers of KMB Telemarketing linkedin.com/in/chamberslisa   Paul Rhodes of Green Gorilla Apps linkedin.com/in/ukwebdevelopment   Graeme Thurman of Citizen Communications linkedin.com/in/advertisingandmarketingeventsandexhibitionsvideoandediting   Faith Guest of Tools of the Trade linkedin.com/in/faith-guest-407a428   Nigel Busby of InControl Marketing linkedin.com/in/nigel-busby-310aa57   Jenny Powell of JDP Procurement linkedin.com/in/jenny-powell-9312798   David Lynes of Unique IQ linkedin.com/in/davidlynes   Steve Bradstock of First Base IT Solutions linkedin.com/in/stephen-bradstock-1bbb1812   David Lincoln Lewis of Industrial Switchgear linkedin.com/in/david-lincoln-lewis-66242193   Hannah Haffield of Make More Noise PR linkedin.com/in/david-lincoln-lewis-66242193   Scaling up your business isn't easy, and can be a little daunting. On this weeks episode we join the latest ScaleUp club with the panel discussion and presentation around the theme of scalability and the TVR test. This is a great litmus test of business scalability! By learning what you should be prioritising in your business by applying the TVR test to your key products and services you can start to scale and accelerate your growth. Most of us get caught in what has been described as the owner's trap, essentially where we create a business that is over reliant on us.  In this episode, Louise explains how to use the TVR framework to help break the cycle and reduce the dependency of the business on you. The information presented by Louise is a brilliant eye opener in terms of where your business is and how you can begin to create a more resilient and scalable business. In addition to a Q&A session we also hear from various business owners in this episode as they talk about where their businesses are and how using the TVR test has given them ideas of how to grow and scale up appropriately.   David Lynes of Unique IQ - https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidlynes/ Clare Vale of Sign Solutions - https://www.linkedin.com/in/clare-vale-6032b416/ Dave Perrigo of Perrigo Associates - https://www.linkedin.com/in/daveperrigo/ Steve Bradstock of First Base Solutions - www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-bradstock-1bbb1812/ Jenny Powell of JDP Procurement - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenny-powell-987137a/   Scaling up your business isn't easy, and can be a little daunting. With many mums having little free time to themselves (48%) and learning to cope with a constant lack of sleep (43%), no wonder it's led to many having a "secret cry" in the car (31%) or shower (26%).So, this Mother's Day, let's celebrate our mums for what they've done for us in the past, present and future on the day the clocks remind us of the time mum's have given up to guide us to become the people we are today. Gary Kliese has been a fixture on the Skychannel service from NSW northern tracks for 23 years. He was appointed and tutored by Graham McNeice who remains his greatest supporter. Gary begins by sharing his sadness about the recent flooding which has seriously impacted his hometown of Ballina. He remembers the fateful phone call to Graham McNeice which resulted in a career after race riding.  He talks of the many tracks to which he travels to present Sky's race day service, and the time he spends on form analysis between race meetings. Gary's travel schedule is punishing. He usually returns home to Ballina when his Sky commitments are completed. He pays tribute to the participants who are happy to join him on air to discuss the prospects of their horses. He pays a special tribute to regular co-host Priscilla Looker. Gary also acknowledges the contribution of Melinda Graham who filled in during Priscilla's absence on maternity leave. Back to his riding days, and Gary talks of his apprenticeship to the late Bruce McLachlan. He shares the story of McLachlan's plan to give his apprentice a first up win. Torrential rain on the Gold Coast brought the plan undone, but the story had a happy ending. Gary looks back with dismay on a twelve months disqualification which continues to be a thorn in his side. His first day back in the saddle had a fairy tale ending. The former talented jockey expresses his admiration for the skills of Henry Davis- the man he regards as the best trainer he ever knew. He looks back on a winner he rode for Davis at Eagle Farm. Gary reflects on his marriage to Jenny Powell in 1981 and a move to Ballina to escape Brisbane's powerful riding ranks. He talks of sons Luke and Brad who were always too big to be jockeys but made their marks as horsemen in other pursuits. Gary talks of his flying start on the northern rivers and the Murwillumbah race fall which should never have happened. A knee injury put him on the sidelines for twelve months. When he resumed, the new season was already two months in. He looks back on the sensational winning run which saw him get up to win his first NRRA premiership. He started the next season with a flurry of winners but then lady luck turned her back again. Gary graphically describes the most freakish of accidents which put him out for another twelve months. He talks of a chance meeting with an eminent orthopaedic surgeon. You'll love Gary's story about the show horse he rode every day to strengthen his leg before a return to race riding. The horse happened to be a thoroughbred but had never raced. Mr. Kliese changed all of that. He talks of another two NRRA premierships, and pays tribute to his two favourite northern rivers trainers. He also acknowledges the jockeys for whom he had special admiration. We take Gary back to his early days in Brisbane when he got to ride some very smart horses. He rates his favourites. The sixty one year old reflects with sadness on the loss of sister Lorraine and brother Raymond in 1992. The siblings died only six months apart. Gary sends a cheerio to sister Narelle in Maroochydore and brother Graham who's still booting home the winners in north Queensland. Gary Kliese was still riding regular winners in 1996 when another bizarre accident brought down the curtain on a career he loved. His mount Lukawae snapped a foreleg in the straight at Coffs Harbour and speared his jockey to the track. Another runner crashed over the top of Lukawae and landed on top of the hapless Kliese. He was left with no feeling from the neck down. His account of the aftermath is pretty distressing. Gary finishes on a bright note as he reflects on eleven years as a Ballina Jockey Club Committeeman, three of those years as Chairman. This is a laid back chat with one of Sky Racing's most respected presenters and a former jockey of considerable talent.

Multiple Streams of Income with Louisa Ashforth This week Laura interviews Louisa Ashforth, a Beauty Business Entrepreneur who has grown her business in a revolutionary way in her industry by thinking big and creating Multiple Streams of Income. In this episode, Laura asks how others can diversify in their niche and create assets that give income continually. Lousia Ashforth -  A beauty boss who got tired of the industry’s hype has taken on the big names, launched her own skincare brand and built up a celebrity following.Louisa Ashforth is a therapist and Rotherham salon owner with 17 years of industry experience. Her LA Skincare range is a multi-tasking skin toolkit beloved by a host of famous UK names.Made in the UK using some of the most effective, results-driven ingredients in the beauty industry, the range contains just six products, which have sold in their thousands throughout the UK and Europe.Louisa owns the formulas for each product, which cost from £20 to £45,  and claims they work for every skin type and condition, eradicating the need to buy a new cream or lotion when a skin issue crops up.Louisa decided to create her own products four years ago, after seeing clients continually being bombarded by ‘miraculous’ new products in the media. She also discovered her favourite high-end skincare brands contained parabens – widely used preservatives in cosmetic products which penetrate skin and can remain within tissue.“I was decided to make safer, affordable products which could multi-task, and was determined to cut through the beauty industry hype which leads people to buy a new product each time their skin changes,” said Louisa, 38, owner of LA Hair and Beauty Salon on Worksop Road in Aston.“Everyone’s skin condition varies from time to time, according to lifestyle choices and environment, hormones and health. If you chose products with the right active ingredients, they will work on almost all skin issues.”Louisa researched ingredients herself and found an award-winning Kent-based pharmaceutical company specialising in natural products to create her range.LA Skincare’s Super Six products are paraben-free, vegan, Fair Trade and are not tested on animals. Active ingredients – including potent beta and alpha hydroxy acids, vitamin E oil and aloe vera –  are widely recognised throughout the beauty industry for efficacy and safeness.“The products focus on exfoliation and stimulating skin renewal. They combat dryness, oiliness, sensitivity, break-outs, acne, stressed skin, sun and environmental damage. You just adapt the way you use each product. It’s  skincare common-sense,” claimed the beauty entrepreneur who set up in business aged 22.Her products are receiving glowing testimonials from acne-suffering teenagers to older customers wanting smoother, firmer skin, plus celebrities including TV presenter Jenny Powell, actresses Angela Griffin and Stephanie Davis, of Hollyoaks fameFamous male fans are former X Factor singer Chris Maloney and Geordie Shore actor Nathan Henry, who uses LA Skincare’s Chocolate Delight Enzyme Peel.West End stage actress and singer Kerry Ellis, who has worked with Queen’s Brian May, is the brand’s ambassador.LA Skincare is sold at a beauty salon in Marbella, nine salons around the UK and at www.LASkincare.co.ukLet's connect on social media channels:https://www.facebook.com/groups/CreatingSalonSuccess/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa0wl2H5j1_8OJ7Cyw2bJIA/https://www.linkedin.com/in/louisa-ashforth-skincare-and-beauty-salon-expert-b8109869/ Enjoy his Podcast? The latest episode of the podcast which asks: if Bummerdog was a band, what would they sound like? This episode, Pop-Crazed Youngsters, is one of the absolute landmark moments of the long and storied history of The Pops - the week where all the rubbish of the Laties is finally driven into the sea by streetwise lairy youths with a malevolent shuffle and a drug-induced attitude. And as well as Big Fun, the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays are on too. Those of you who remember this episode as a full-on Madchester takeover - with 808 State on as well, and Vera Duckworth gurning away in the audience in a Joe Bloggs top - are going to be sorely disappointed, however, as the supporting cast is the usual Neighnties rubbish. Jakki Brambles and Jenny Powell come off like the Philadelphia Cheese Advert women. Bobby Brown thrusts his groin at a shockingly young girl who's probably wondering when Tiffany is going to come on. Aaron Neville comes dressed up as a character in a Sega beat-'em-up. The Fine Young Cannibals get bum-rushed by the cast of Dance Energy. The Martians pitch up to blare some Housey rubbish at us. The #1 is cat shit. And Holy Horrible Soundtrack LPs, Batman, it's Prince. Al Needham is joined by Sorted Simon Price and Top Lad Taylor Parkes for a trawl through the car boot sale of 1989, breaking off to discuss such important matters as Top Hatting, raiding your Dad's wardrobe to look suitably 'Double Good', Ian Brown shutting down a bar, sniffing silage, and the introduction of the Chart Music Top Ten. Get on some swearing, matey!    See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
