My mother kept an old biscuit tin in the larder. Inside this tin was the sort of collection that somehow accumulates over a lifetime: old coins, buttons, nuts and bolts, stamps that were no longer worth whatever was printed on them, keys that probably opened something once, and assorted little objects nobody could quite bring themselves to throw away. Years later, the idea of this tin, has found its way into The Photowalk. Mine, though, contains questions. This week, I open it with one of the show's great friends, David duChemin, an award-winning wildlife and humanitarian photographer, author, teacher and, for many photographers, a mentor. He tackles questions from the tin, and there are a couple of bigger questions I want to put to him this time about resilience and relevance. Where does resilience come from, and what keeps a creative person moving when confidence disappears, plans go wrong, or life simply gets in the way? Then there's relevance. As photographers, how much should we care about remaining relevant? Relevant to whom, exactly? Twenty-five years after September 11th, a generation has grown up knowing that day through photographs, television footage and the recollections of those who were there. In this special edition, I walk with my friend, photojournalist Jason Florio, who at the time of recording, was preparing to return to New York, where in 2001 he found himself running up Vesey Street as one of the towers fell behind him. We talk about going back, what remains clear after a quarter of a century, what has blurred, and the importance of first-hand memories as an event passes further into history. Also in the programme, filmmaker and photographer Paul Berriff recalls filming alongside New York firefighters when the South Tower collapsed, knocking him unconscious while his camera continued to record. There have been some extraordinary photographers walking with me on The Photowalk over the years, sharing their work, their lives, what they've learned and the reasons they continue to pick up a camera. From MLB Draft To Baseball YouTuber: Aiden McIntyre’s Journey Beyond the Game  Baseball is at the center of this episode of The Slide Podcast. Aiden joins Coach Aaron, Mikey Barrels, and Brian to share his journey through the game. Aiden played baseball from a young age. He later played college baseball and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 22nd round of the MLB Draft. However, his path to professional baseball was not typical. Aiden played several positions before becoming a pitcher in college. Over time, he developed his velocity and eventually reached 97 MPH. Life in Minor League Baseball Aiden gives The Slide Podcast an honest look at professional baseball. He explains what life was really like in the minor leagues. He talks about long seasons, constant travel, housing, food, and the financial challenges players can face. In addition, he explains how players move through the different levels of professional baseball. Aiden also shares what it felt like to join the Oakland A's after being drafted. Most importantly, he explains how much work is still required after hearing your name called in the MLB Draft. Developing Young Baseball Players The conversation then turns to youth baseball development. Aiden shares advice for young players who dream of playing college or professional baseball. He talks about hard work versus talent. He also discusses velocity and why young players should not rush their development. For example, Aiden explains that being great at 12 or 13 does not guarantee a college scholarship. Instead, young players should focus on getting better each day. At the same time, players need to give their bodies time to grow. Aiden believes that development takes time. Because of this, young athletes should not feel pressured to reach a certain velocity at an early age. Keeping Baseball Fun Another major topic is the pressure young athletes face today. Aiden explains why taking breaks can be healthy. He also talks about playing other sports and avoiding early specialization. Most importantly, he believes young players should continue to enjoy the game. Baseball can be difficult, so loving the game can help players handle failure and keep going. From Professional Player to Baseball YouTuber Aiden's baseball journey eventually took him in a new direction. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he started creating YouTube content. Since then, he has built a career as a baseball YouTuber and content creator. His goal is to stay connected to baseball while helping grow the love of the game for the next generation. Ultimately, this episode is about much more than professional baseball. It is about development, hard work, patience, pressure, and finding a way to keep baseball fun. Following this week's solar eclipse, which brought a partial eclipse to the UK, much of Europe and parts of North America, we return to The Photowalk archive for one of the most extraordinary stories ever told on the show. Photographer Jon Carmichael wanted to photograph a total solar eclipse from 39,000 feet aboard a commercial airliner. That meant calculating where the Moon's shadow would fall, finding a flight capable of meeting it, and somehow securing exactly the right seat. What followed is a remarkable story of planning, persuasion, good fortune and photography, beginning with the influence of a geography teacher and eventually leading to an image bought by Elton John. Even if you've heard Jon tell parts of this story elsewhere, including in his TED Talk, this is one worth pulling up an imaginary bar stool for and hearing again. It's a genuine dine-out-on-it-for-the-rest-of-your-life story about being in precisely the right place, several miles above the Earth, at precisely the right moment. Paul spent years operating at the sharp end of British newspaper photography as Picture Editor of The Times, living among relentless deadlines, pressure, and the pursuit of tomorrow's front page. Somewhere within that world, though, he began to realise that achievement and contentment don't always arrive hand in hand. Over time, photography became less about proving himself and more about paying attention again. His pictures now are often shaped by solitude, weather, atmosphere, and the Cornish landscape. He speaks honestly about burnout, depression, creativity, and rebuilding a sense of purpose through time spent alone with a camera. I'm joined by photographer, writer and philosophical YouTuber Sean Tucker for a conversation about writing as a creative act; a way of noticing, a way of understanding yourself, and perhaps even a way of staying awake to life. What began as a listener letter about creative block and photography has become a much bigger conversation about expression itself and how sometimes words can unlock parts of our creativity that pictures alone cannot reach. Today I feature Fran May, a British photographer whose black-and-white work from the 1970s captures a version of Britain that has largely vanished: northern towns, street markets, pubs, kids playing out, and Brick Lane in London. What makes the photographs remarkable is how unforced they feel. Nothing is staged, nothing is trying too hard. They are just honest slices of ordinary life, made by someone who came to England from the wide open spaces of Canada and Hawaii and found something worth documenting in the terraced streets and shop fronts of a country that still had one foot firmly in the post-war years. Fran worked under the mentorship of Bill Brandt, and it shows in the seriousness with which she approached the everyday. There's a touch of street about the show because Valerie Jardin returns for another edition of Teach Me Street.
