Irish firm launches new legal platform as it seeks to level the 'e-discovery playing field'

hd-intelligence, a new Irish legal-tech company, has announced the launch of its innovative e-discovery system designed to allow small and medium-sized law practices to compete with larger rivals at a cost they can afford. The SaaS business, established in 2020 with a mission to 'revolutionise the legal industry', is initially targeting a potential Irish and UK market valued at €150m and is confident of further global demand for its innovative e-discovery platform. hd-intelligence is a user-friendly, cloud-based software solution that allows legal professionals to quickly upload, review, critically analyse and produce documents online. Such e-discovery processes are now required as part of disclosure procedures in legal cases, but while software solutions are already available, they tend to be prohibitively expensive for all but the largest firms. hd-intelligence's 'plug and play' platform is deliberately designed with simplicity and cost-effectiveness in mind to 'level the playing field' and allow smaller companies operate at the same level as their larger competitors. It operates using a 'pay-as-you go' system based on the amount of storage needed and users can upgrade to different storage packs when required at costs that are affordable. To allow for more efficient processing, hd-intelligence has recently incorporated artificial intelligence (AI) into the platform. By building its own unique AI function, hd-intelligence aims to become the go-to platform for large and complex litigation cases where an AI model will scan and identify key material on a case-by-case basis, enabling legal professionals to review the most important documents to their respective cases early on. The company is initially targeting legal firms of between four to 12 employees of which there are in excess of 100 in Ireland and over 450 in the UK. However, it believes its system could be used worldwide by companies in other sectors including financial services and insurance as well as by government departments and agencies. It is projecting sales of over €1 million by 2025 and of more than €2.7 million by 2027 with plans to hire ten full-time employees in the next two years and grow this number to 20 by 2027. The idea for a more accessible and less costly e-discovery platform was borne was out of necessity for co-founder Anthony Joyce, a partner in the Dublin 8- based law firm Anthony Joyce & Co. Faced with an incredibly daunting review of hundreds of thousands of documents in a commercial case and dissuaded from using any of the available e-discovery platforms by high licence fees, Joyce teamed up with barrister and co-founder Francis Daly to create a solution. The two ultimately partnered with Mark Murphy, founder and chief executive of Juvo, a web design and development company based in The Digital Hub technology campus in Dublin 8, to bring hd-intelligence's platform to market. Murphy has since been appointed chief technology officer of the business. A total of €560,000 has been invested in the platform from a number of sources, including from the founders, private investors and Enterprise Ireland funding. Recent investment over the last twelve months fuelled developments on greater security and localised GDPR policies, as well as developing the platforms artificial intelligence review function. Anthony Joyce, co-founder of hd-intelligence said: "We are delighted to launch our new e-discovery platform, which has been about four years in the making. Our product can be used effectively by any law firm, but we are primarily targeting legal practices employing between four and twelve solicitors both in this jurisdiction and in the UK. We believe there will be significant demand and we are extremely confident in the platform's ability to become a go-to solution in what is a significant and growing part of the legal sector." "We have identified over 100 law firms in Ireland and over 450 in the UK that could immediately benefit from our system. In time,...

Welcome, everyone, to another episode of The Tearsheet Podcast, where we explore financial services together with an eye on technology, innovation, emerging models, and changing expectations. I'm Tearsheet's editor in chief, Zack Miller. This episode of The Tearsheet Podcast delves into the evolving financial landscape for Gen Z, focusing on their transition from debit to credit usage. Bunita Sawhney, Global Head of Consumer Products and Processing at Mastercard, shares insights from her presentation at the Tearsheet Gen Z Symposium, emphasizing the increasing role of women in financial decision-making. We explore Gen Z's preference for debit cards over credit cards, driven by factors like control and familiarity.  Bunita highlights the importance of partnerships and innovative strategies to engage Gen Z, advocating for financial literacy initiatives and alternative credit-building solutions like installment plans and Buy Now, Pay Later options. The discussion also touches on Mastercard's collaborations with fintech firms like Greenlight and Juvo to promote financial education and inclusion among younger demographics. Ultimately, the podcast aims to shed light on the challenges and opportunities in catering to Gen Z's financial needs and preferences. The big ideas Gen Z's Influence in Financial Decision Making: "To this day, 90% of payment decisions or household buying decisions are made by or with women. And that's true for Gen Z as well. Over 25% of women say that they are the sole decision-maker in their household's financial decisions." Gen Z's Digital and Social Natives: "It is a really special moment, not only because we're on the cusp of International Women's Day, so happy International Women's Day to all of you. And I do like to think not only about the women in our company and how we serve and support them, but the women who we and our product support and serve as well, because I'll spend a minute on that as I transition us over into Gen Z."  Preference for Debit Cards: "Debit is still the most accepted and the largest payment vehicle and the most consistently used all around the world. And that is true also for our Gen Z consumers. Why? Because it meets some of their critical needs, it meets their need for control, it meets their need for understanding and having control over their payments."  Importance of Credit Building: "Credit doesn't have to revolve first of all, right? We know now with the advent and the absolute take-off of installment solutions, and buy now pay later solutions, that there's plenty of easy ways to have access to short, non-APR related ways to pay in four, pay in six without a fee or without an APR as an example." Financial Literacy and Education: "We know that 52% of Gen Z consumers worry about financial security. That's twice as much as the generations before them -- two times more worry." Partnerships and Innovation: "We're in a different place with a different level of information flow with a really curious group, that are finding ways to inform themselves through social platforms, as I said, and others through influencers, who we need to continue to partner with more so than ever." Here's my conversation with Mastercard's Bunita Sawhney.

And how might that be different from what we see here in the U.S. or in Europe? How do you make consumers aware of your financial credit building services? What is the future for Juvo in 2020 and how will you get there?Timestamp:8:58 What is Juvo?12:02 Leveraging phone carrier data to inform marketing messages 13:32 How to manage consumers’ preconceptions about a product15:22 The massive role of mobile in emerging markets16:00 Challenges of mobile app marketing for Juvo20:54 Give people what they need when they need it, progressively24:06 Juvo’s goals looking forwardQuotes:(12:31-13:04) “One of the things we’re really working on optimizing right now is what is the flow or the journey that somebody goes on from once they get that message? Is it a message that then takes them to the app store to download an app to sign up to then take the loan? Or is it something where we can make it as simple as responding to that text message? There’s a number of ways in which people prefer to interact with their mobile operator or services in general. And optimizing that is a really big part of our go-to-market and our growth strategy.”(15:23-15:48) “I think emerging markets, in general, are mobile-first. There’s a small slice of the population that has access to computers and has had that for some time. But for the vast majority of people, a mobile device is in many instances the first time that people are getting access to the internet. And so, it really is a much more transformative piece of technology.”(17:38-17:48) “We are constantly doing funnel analysis. And every point of the journey in which we can reduce friction, that’s our number one priority.Mentioned in this Episode:Josh Gosliner - LinkedInJuvo
