Text Us Here!Somebody in this room is casually clearing the safe daily caffeine limit by breakfast, and that turns into a surprisingly useful conversation about habits, ADHD routines, and how to cut back without spiraling. We keep it funny, but we also get honest about what dependence looks like in real life, how sleep gets wrecked, and why gradual change is the only change that sticks. Then the mood shifts, in the best way, into grief and growth. We talk about losing a pet, leaning on therapy, and why getting outside and doing something hard, like a Mount Rainier hike, can be a lifeline when your brain wants to shut down. We also dig into the power of creative work as a grief tool, turning memories into a project that might help other people process loss. The biggest deep dive is a wild alleged romance scam and investment fraud story: Deajon Love, accused of impersonating an NFL player and “investor” to take money from women across multiple states. We unpack the tactics, the red flags, and how social media manipulation, deepfake style content, and even search results can make a lie feel “verified.” That leads into a broader talk on rage bait, algorithm traps, and why protecting your attention is now basic online safety. Composer Ken Allen shaped the soundscape of an entire Sierra era, from Space Quest to Kings Quest, and that unmistakable Sierra logo fanfare burned into every retro-gamer's brain. Now he's back with a full new soundtrack for SpaceVenture, and we go deep into how it all came together. In this episode, Ken walks through the craft behind his new score, the evolution from MT-32 to modern orchestral libraries, the stories behind iconic Sierra tracks, the surprising inspirations for SpaceVenture's music, and what it's like to reunite with the Two Guys from Andromeda after decades. Expect anecdotes, technical insight, nostalgia, and plenty of behind-the-scenes lore from one of the genre's defining composers. Mangia! TW: genetic experimentation on animals, mention of Satan Oh Frabjious Day, weirdos! Welcome to another episode of KEEP IT WEIRD, the podcast for all things strange and unusual, hairy and scary, mysterious and unknown and everything in between!! This week we cover FOUR very WEIRD topics, we introduce some new segments, we show off some cool stuff we bought with our adult money and we even recite some poetry. Lauren starts us off with her very first MONSTER WATCH as we head to Santa Paula California in search of the BILLIWHACK MONSTER. This thing might be a bigfoot, a government experiment gone horribly awry, an interdimensional creature that crawled through a hole in space-time or possibly the devil himself. Ashley brings us two stories in a new segment she calls MONKEY'N AROUND! First up is our new favorite Orangutan, KEN ALLEN. Known as the "Hairy Houdini" at the San Diego zoo, Ken became famous for outwitting his zoo handlers and escaping his "inescapable" enclosure several times. Then we head into the modern day and discuss China splicing human DNA into chimpanzees. The goal is to attempt to find the gene that gave us consciousness... but could it result in Planet of the Apes? And finally Lauren gives us a BIT O' BIOLOGY with a 2009 study in Scientific American regarding music and how not only does it move us emotionally and affect our "heart" but it also might affect our HEART!! That's right, it's possible that Music may help keep your cardiovascular system regulated and we may be able to use music in the future to help treat victims of heart attacks and strokes to re-regulate their circulatory systems. Today have the third and penultimate conversation from our Label Focus mini-series presented by Zara Hedderman. So far we've heard from Willie Stewart of Nyahh Records and Joey Edwards from Pizza Pizza Records and in this episode, you'll hear Zara speaking with Michael Roe, label and artist manager with Faction Records. Faction Records is coming close to reaching a massive milestone of 20 years in business after it was founded by Ken Allen in 2006. You may remember a compilation CD from around that time called Faction One and featured bands like Director, The Immediate, Republic of Loose and Future Kings of Spain amongst others. Today, populating Faction's roster of artists are a number of firm favourites with critics and audiences such as Sorcha Richardson, Niamh Regan, Martin Hayes, and Jape. Over the course of the chat Michael delved into the many ways that the industry is changing and how he and his colleagues at Faction work with their artists to develop their careers and prepare them to build their audience base and engage with international markets. In this regard, the conversation explores different elements of the business-side of the artist-label relationship and how important it is to have a plan but also not fear failure along the way. Zara and Michael discuss the impact of artists self-releasing their music and how that's changing the overall landscape and the importance of the relationships artists build with various media outlets and journalists. We'll have another episode, the final one in this series, very soon, but until then, here's Michael Roe of Faction Records.Keep up to date on Faction Records here:https://www.instagram.com/factionmusicieMusic featured:Annamoe Drive - Procrastinationhttps://anamoedrive.bandcamp.com/track/procrastinationNiamh Regan - Madonnahttps://niamhregan.bandcamp.com/track/madonnaSéan Joyce - My Facehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrE9V3Ccs7I

In the 1980s a series of high profile escapes brought attention to an unlikely culprit. His name was Ken Allen and he just may be the greatest escape artist the animal kingdom has ever seen. Ken was a 250 pound Bornean orangutan born and raised at the San Diego Zoo. Ken escaped his enclosure several times despite the zoo's constant and expensive security upgrades. Although Ken continued to outsmart his keepers, when he did escape, he chose not to go anywhere. Instead, he simply sauntered around the zoo shaking hands with tourists and enjoying watching the other zoo animals. Ken Allen achieved fame after his escapes garnering his own fan club, the Orang Gang, merchandise with the slogan “Free Ken Allen” pasted onto T-shirts and bumper stickers, and there was even a hit song about his life called “The Ballad of Ken Allen.” Come hear the incredible true story of the wily, lovable orangutan known as the Hairy Houdini.

“It's easy to quit,” Ken Allen, a Muscogee Creek, said of tobacco. “I quit every day, probably 20 times. It was just staying quit is the problem.” The Perkins resident finally quit smoking after more than 35 years with help from the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline – and no help from a commercial tobacco industry that markets heavily to Native Americans. Allen shares his long journey toward better health in Episode 31 of the TSET Better Health Podcast, which also includes Aaron Williams, tobacco program coordinator of the Southern Plains Tribal Health Board. Williams offers a wider perspective on commercial tobacco use and cessation among Native Americans in Oklahoma, and how commercial tobacco differs from ceremonial tobacco use and traditions. During the interview, Williams referred to BRFSS, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, which is the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) phone survey system for learning about rates of health-related risk behaviors and chronic health conditions at national and state levels.

He also talks about his new hero Ken Allen. Just a wholesome episode that nobody could object to. Episode 82 – China v Taiwan: What's Really Happening in the Air? Episode Summary: In Episode 82 of the Aerospace Advantage podcast, China v Taiwan: What's Really Happening in the Air? John Baum chats with Mitchell Institute's Dan Rice; Ken Allen previously with the China Aerospace Studies Institute; Gerald Brown of Valiant Integrated Services; and Thomas Shattuck of Perry World House to better understand the dynamics between China and Taiwan when it comes to contested air sovereignty. Clearly, relations between the two nations are complex and heated. From an air perspective, this increasingly comes to bear as Chinese military aircraft transit through airspace claimed by Taiwan, which includes a special zone known as the air defense identification zone (ADIZ). This sort of action could easily escalate into a flash point. Learn more about these trends and what they mean for broader security dynamics in the Pacific. Credits: Host: Lt Col (Ret.) Today feels like a treat! I got to dive in with a former colleague of mine, Ken Allen, who is the Executive Director for Denver Area Youth For Christ. Serving almost three decades within the world of events and ministry, Ken is the real deal! He's a dad of three, a loyal husband and loves the Vikings (although we wont fault him for that;) He's also passionate about reaching young people and doing incredible things to pursue the next generation of youth. While we dive into Ken's story and a handful of reflections of pivotal moments in our lives on today's episode, we also talk about the way God connects with each one of us, how he is a God who comes to us and pursues our hearts right when and where we need it. Youth for Christ works to uncover God's story of hope. I love how they say “ When we welcome God into a pivotal moment, we invite Him to uncover His story of Hope in our lives, and to give life to our story. He, Jesus, is the life in all of our stories” and Ken does such a great job of really sharing how that's possible to see within our own lives. I hope you'll dive into our conversation today and be encouraged along the way! We discuss the tight-knit community (which has already produced a handful of similar albums based on the Space Quest franchise) and its involvement with the project, as well as how he adds his own touch to the process of reimagining such well-loved music from Mark Seibert and Ken Allen. Knowing penetration capabilities of your ammunition is a crucial component in your responsibility as a firearms owner. Ken Allen with Ken Allen Training joins Lefty this episode. Welcome to episode 23. This time around we're talking about the huge Sierra adventure series that started back in 1984, King's Quest. Before we get into this huge topic, we have a few small items of news to cover: Ken Allen put out a very interesting podcast where he discusses how he came up with the music for Space Quest 4. Also, it turns out that he will be able to rearrange his own creations despite the fact the rights are owned by Activision through mechanical licensing. Secondly, big news on the GoG.com front. System Shock 2 is now available for purchase for 9.99 USD. I definitely need to give this one a whirl since I didn't get a chance to play it when it originally came out. So that's that for the news, now we get on to our main topic, Roberta Williams' King's Quest series. I talk about the history of the series and cover some interesting points of each of the eight games in the series. Buy King's Quest 1, 2 and 3 on GoG: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/kings_quest_1_2_3 Buy King's Quest 4, 5 and 6 on GoG: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/kings_quest_4_5_6 Buy King's Quest 7 and 8 on GoG: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/kings_quest_7_8 Next time around, I'll be covering my first puzzle type game, Dynamix's The Incredible Machine. Enjoy the show!
Howdy Blockers! Welcome to episode 22 where we talk about the 1999 Microprose game, Rollercoaster Tycoon. Before that though, there's quite a bit of news this week: Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded's Greenlight campaign was a success. It was approved along with other games in the fourth round of Greenlight inductees. In addition, Leisure Suit Larry's Greatest Hits and Misses is now available on GoG. This compilation includes Larry 1 - 6 and is a mere 10 dollars. Back to Greenlight, a cool game called Pinball Arcade is trying to get approved. Looks like a very cool reproduction of some classic pinball tables. Check it out! In SpaceVenture news, former Sierra star composer Ken Allen is now confirmed to be on board to do the music for the game. This is awesome news. n addition, Ken Allen himself has launched a Kickstarter. Under the Half Dome will be a modernized compilation of some of Ken's best game music work. Finally, in beta news: The Elder Scrolls online beta signup is open. SimCity 5 closed beta has begun. After all that news, we get into our main topic, Microprose's 1999 game, Rollercoaster Tycoon. We talk about the game, dev story, listen to a voicemail and all the rest!
