In which James Slater-Murphy and Kit Power begin their deep dive into the studio albums of Columbia recording artist Bruce Springsteen.  With a startling lack of originality, we start at the beginning, taking in 1973s Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ. There's a bit of initial amused bafflement that this is the origin story for one of popular music's biggest and most reliable stadium fillers, but we also discover a lot to enjoy and ponder, especially on side 2, as well as some signposts towards future greatness. An enjoyable start to a keenly anticipated journey. Join us on this ride, where we find out: Will we pay the cost to hear the Boss? You'll have a blast.

Another podcast excursion into the Media Hauntological, this time focusing on The Shining, the 1980 masterpiece by... well, by several people, including but not limited to Stanley Kubrick.  (See also a triumvirate of brilliant women: Diane Johnson, Wendy Carlos, and Shelley Duvall.) This time George and I are joined by Kit Power.  Because we've decided we hate Elliot.  No, no, no.  I kid.  If the Joker ever tries to corrupt one of us, it'll be Elliot, because he's the best of us.  Truth is, George and Kit and I have long been planning a Shiningcast, since long before George, Elliot and I launched the project that I, to the silent embarrassment of everyone else involved, insist on calling It *IS* The Same Log.   Luckily, it fits very well into the running thread of IITSL.  By agreement with Elliot, George and I went ahead with Kit, and this episode slots nicely into the series. It's a long, long episode in which we mostly talk about the film but also talk a lot about the novel, some about the TV miniseries, and even a little bit about Doctor Sleep (book and movie).  As well as the usual manifold digressions. Content warnings for discussion of very difficult subjects, and also for gushing because this is very very my favourite movie.

A couple of great interviews this week as Arm Cast Dead Sexy Podcast host Armand Rosamilia gets to chat with: Kit Power, an author, podcaster, and blogger. His novel, GodBomb!, and novella collection Breaking Point were published by The Sinister Horror Company and are widely available, and his debut collection is out on November 3rd. His podcast, Watching RoboCop with Kit Power, sees him sitting down every month to discuss the greatest movie ever made with a guest, and recording the resulting conversation. And his My Life In Horror blog has been running at Gingernuts Of Horror for three years, where he discusses films, books, music and events that scarred him as a child. And then: Like many young writers, Javan Bonds dreams almost daily of the apocalypse – usually one populated by the walking dead. But his real-life day-to-day existence is almost as challenging as the world of zombies and collapsing civilizations. Javan, now 30 years old, legally blind and functionally deaf, and with congestive heart failure was diagnosed with Friedrich’s Ataxia, a form of muscular dystrophy, at the age of 11. In December 2015 doctors gave him six months to two years to live. Though that pronouncement has changed now and his health has improved somewhat, in that moment he decided that if he was going, he would leave something of himself behind to be remembered. So began his writing and publishing career.   Sponsored by Subculture Corsets & Clothing

Lee and Daniel are joined this week by their friend Kit Power, making his return in the guest host position, to cover the Raoul Walsh-directed "White Heat" (1949), starring James Cagney, and Jules Dassin's "Night and the City" (1950), starring Richard Widmark. 1940s iPods and dated 1990s references somehow make their way into the conversation. The hosts also cover what they have watched as of late. The Bring Your Own Cinematic Trauma series continues with Tommy.  Kit Power burns the midnight oil and calls in with his traumatic story as the entire integrity of show structure collapses under the weight of Ken Russell’s visual sadism with this classic rock opera.  A strange transmission has imprinted on this weeks recording and it seems the Tachyon destroyer may be to blame. http://milomidnight.wixsite.comelectricdreamhouse Watching Robocop: http://talkingrobocop.libsyn.com/watching-robocop-with-kit-power https://www.patreon.com/kitpower Wrong With Authority: http://wrongwithauthority.blogspot.co.uk/ My Life In Horror – Tommy: http://gingernutsofhorror.com/my-life-in-horror/my-life-in-horror-sickness-will-surely-take-the-mind (loads of stuff in the archives there, including pieces on Last House On The Left, The Wasp Factory, Gremlins, and my hate letter to The Lost Boys) Author Pages on Amazon: Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/Kit-Power/e/B00K6J438K/ Amazon.co.uk: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kit-Power/e/B00K6J438K/ Kit’s Band: http://www.disciplesofgonzo.com/ Follow Kit: @KitGonzo on Twitter. As usual with these intermission episodes, the original plans fell through for an official episode, so here's a small fix for those who expect an episode every week. This time out friend of the show Kit Power has come through like a superstar to give you all a verbal beat-down of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (2016), and then he has much more positive things to say about "The LEGO Batman Movie" (2017). Lee is also on this saying some things of less importance. Watching Robocop With Kit Power Wrong With Authority City of the Dead Shabcast Oi! In this episode of Consider the Ray Gun, Daniel is joined by Godbomb author and serious Robocop fan Kit Power in discussing a YA trilogy that meant a lot to Kit as a young man: The Tripods Trilogy. It's basically a romp through a faux-medieval Europe in which a century prior human beings were conquered by a race of invading aliens who use mind-control caps installed at puberty to create docility among the population. They have a wide-ranging conversation about the characters in the series, the way it's structured, what young adult fiction is meant to do, and the way slavery and imperialist ambition is portrayed in the series. They're also pretty sure John Christopher is a pretty right-wing asshole.  Get the books here.  Check out Kit Power's Patreon, where you can find links to all his other stuff.

This is an unusual edition of not Pex Lives. We weren't able to get together and record your expected two hours plus of Dr Who related - tangentially Dr Who related - conversation because of, well, capitalism. Instead, what I've put together is somewhat akin to those Giant Annuals of comics you used to get as a kid, usually for Christmas. I thought the Pex Lives listenership might enjoy a little variety. With that in mind, I've got a conversation that Jack Graham, Kit Power, and Daniel Harper - who all of you know - had. It was unplanned and informal, just some friends shooting the breeze at half hour's notice. I've also got Gene Mayes and Kim Karr talking the first act of John Carpenter's career, from 1974 - 1981. A really good chat. Here's an article by Kit Power about the times that he talks about herein and the benefits of even a compromised Labour government over a Conservative one. http://gingernutsofhorror.com/my-life-in-horror/keep-it-up-son-take-a-look-a-what-you-could-have-won @thegenemayes @kimcreep @_Jack_Graham_ @kitgonzo @danieleharper @jmcm1916

Lee and Daniel are taking a couple-episode break before jumping in to what will be an extensive Spaghetti Western series. For this episode they are joined by their friend, fellow podcaster, musician, and published writer Kit Power, who suggested the two films for review this time: "Tommy" (1975) & "Parents" (1989). Because this was recorded a bit later in the week and way much earlier in the day than what Lee and Dan are used to, the whisky hits them much harder. They fully blame Kit for this, BTW. At any rate, the conversation goes deep in to both films, and a lot of both fun and serious issues are brought up. This might be one of the best of all time for the podcast when it's all said and done, even if there's a few audio glitches here and there (sorry for that, but it's nowhere near un-listenable). Also covered: listener comments & what they've watched as of late, and Kit get's to answer the One Actor's Filmography desert island question.
