Dr. David Walton, commonly known as TF Voodoo, is a retired Green Beret officer who served an ODA Team Leader with 7th Special Forces Group.Since retiring, he's become widely known as the world's leading expert on Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS), where he's played an integral role in optimizing every aspect of it to ensure the Army Special Forces select only the most qualified candidates. Dr. Walton has spent countless hours studying and observing SFAS classes, so much so that he's considered an SFAS encyclopedia. Despite the open-source information available in today's digital world, SFAS continues to see less than favorable selection rates. In the episode, Dr. Walton reveals some of the reasons for this dilemma.Dr. Walton is also an author of 3 books, Ruck Up or Shut Up, Shut Up and Ruck, and his newest soon-to-be-released land nav book, Never Get Lost.He also hosts a monthly comprehensive day and night land navigation muster at Hoffman Land Nav site, where the SFAS star course is held. On his website, he posts the details at the beginning of each month. I've personally attended this course twice, and can vouch for it being highly valuable for aspiring candidates, especially knowing that land nav is cause for more SFAS failures than any other portion of selection.Follow Dr. Walton on instagram: tf_voo_doo Website: https://tfvoodoo.com/In this episode, we discuss the following:His upbringing and path to Special ForcesRanger School trials and tribulations (including getting bitten by a snake, and still graduating as the Honor Grad)Selection statistics and why the attrition rate has been so high as of lateIntroduction and rise to niche-fame on the Green Berets SubredditIn part 2, we answered 5 listener questions, including:1. What separates guys that get selected vs. guys that actually end up finishing the Q course? what separates guys that finish the Q course from guys that thrive on an ODA?2. What are some techniques/procedures to reduce cognitive load during Land Navigation week at SFAS? Bonus - Is there a method to handrail roads/bowling alleys at night that totally avoids being roadkill (or closer than 50m)?3. What additional traits and attributes does someone need to be a successful SF officer compared to an enlisted SF soldier?4. What are 5 habits that can be done everyday to build character and grit for SFAS?5. Given that SOPC is now only a few weeks, how should an 18Xray physically show up to OSUT if crushing SFAS is their number 1 priority? What times/numbers do you want to see prior to shipping to account for the detraining that will happen?Whether you're an aspiring Special Forces candidate or just looking to improve your character and fitness for life, you can't miss this episode!New Program:
In today's Q&A episode I answered more detailed questions from my new ask me anything google form (find it here to have your question answered in a future show). As such, there were slightly fewer questions than usual but more context was given. Questions included:-When running repeats or tempo runs, my legs give out before my heart rate reaches zone four or five, how can you train this?-Have you heard or seen guys in the Q course go from guard to active duty because they want to do the job full-time?-What has been the heaviest you've weighed and what were your cardio times like?- when you were active did you ever consider competing in the best ranger competition?-Can the onX hunt app and/or orienteering be sufficient in preparing for SFAS? What do land Nav courses like TF Voodoo's provide that cannot be achieved by the previously mentioned strategies?-Is it wise to continue adding zone two volume if I'm still walking for a chunk of it currently at 180 minutes? I'm a former football safety trying to build an aerobic base.-I've noticed that performing intense workouts later in the day around 4:00 PM negatively affects my sleep. I would like to know the science behind why. Also, if you are forced to exercise later in the day, any tips to help mitigate poor sleep?-What are your must have daily supplements and what brands?-When should I be stretching and foam rolling before or after the workout? And for how long is this something I need to do even if I skip the gym?-What should I eat before a workout at 7:00 AM to ensure I'm well fueled?-Is there a correlation between heart rate and stress levels?-For Jacked Gazelle. When going into the tempo run immediately after day four's lifting session, do I have to do the full 10 minute warmup? I'm already feeling warm from leaving the gym, I drop my water bottle off in the car and then start the run from the parking lot.New Program: 2 & 5 Mile Run ProgramNEW EBOOK: SOF Selection Recovery & Nutrition GuidePrograms, articlesNew Training Team on TrainHeroic: T-850 Rebuilt (try a week for free!)terminatortraining.comKickstart- beginner/garage gym friendlyTime Crunch- Workouts for those short on timeHypertrophy- intermediate/advancedJacked Gazelle- Hybrid athleteSFAS Prep- Special forces train-upTrainHeroic- App based bodybuilding programFollow me:SubstackNewsletter Sign UpIG: terminator_trainingTwitter: @ks

There's more to being a warfighter than shooting. On the US Army webpage it is stated that the Ranger Battalions encompass the "Big 5 Philosophy" of Marksmanship, Physical Training, Medical Training, Small-Unit Tactics, and Mobility. Breaking down each of these, we look at what they might entail. In order to put to rest the cultural conversation in modern gun culture which pits one discipline of shooting against a profession, in this episode we walk through what the big 5 entails, and what might come beyond that for the individual citizen. https://asvabdomination.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/EPISODE-14-PODCAST.mp3 Think of everyone who has ever supported you in your dreams. Vacuums and batteries. We all know people who would say good things and bad things to us. After meeting with someone (or talking, texting, messaging, emailing, see ing posts, interacting, etc.) you feel either more or less energy. People who charge you up are rare, you'll want to return that favor and keep them around. My example of this is my wife. Sheena Gamonal, just returned from Honeymoon, wedding, festivities. Since I've met her she has always been a battery. Constantly filling me with love and excitement for the future, my world is much fuller with her in it. She's always pushed me to keep chasing what I want. I'd never have a TikTok presence, I'd have no booklet, I'd have no real belief in my business without her. I'm very fortunate to have Sheena in my life, "picking the right partner is like printing your own money." Things occasionally get tough in a relationship. I don't even like myself half the time, why would I expect to like someone else 100% of the time, or to like me 100% of the time. We clash, but we find ways to mitigate that. Just like I clash with myself on various topics, I don't do things I wish I had. But, I have to treat myself as a friend, and even when I don't... At least I have Sheena who will have my back. Land Navigation story at OCS - Ranger land nav course half night, half day. I got pretty lucky, many folks got recycled due to injury. I was certain that if I got rejected as an officer that I could still come back to my wife. I know that I'd feel like a failure, but that having someone in my corner who didn't think that about me would make a major difference in my life. I remember very vividly sweating in the dark in a light rain looking for points in the wilderness, and four hours of stress later being resigned to, well, at least Sheena still loves me. At the end of the day be good to folks who are good to you. I love you Sheena Gamonal, thanks for being my wife :) As Always, Be good to yourself, treat yourself as a learner. āMarine, get packed. Youāre going to the field,ā the Gunny says. The Marine shudders. The last time he went to the field his gear got wet and he spent days soaked and cold. When the rain stopped, the wind picked up, and he spent the night shivering so hard that he thought his teeth would fall out. On the final movement back to civilization, his pack dug into his shoulders and caused him to fall behind and the Company Gunnery Sergeant screamed at him to keep up or else... Back in the barracks, his feet remained blistered and he spent the weekend getting over an illness that he developed toward the tail end of the field op. This Devil Dog needs some guidance.Ā Going to the field can be daunting if one does not understand fieldcraft. Many infantry schools spend a lot of time in the field, but fieldcraft does not receive a lot of formal training. My guest, Staff Sergeant Skaggs, has spent years taking the best tips and techniques and compiling them into a useful āhow-toā guide. He has consulted with dozens of Marine leaders on best practices. Furthermore, he has years of experience on deployments, in training, and from his own time as a Combat Instructor.Ā Ā We discuss topics such as: Taking care of oneās boots and proper footcare How to properly pack gear and use the issued ruck sack How to survive in the cold and the heat How to use proper hygieneĀ Considerations for units living in the field The role of discipline in fieldcraft SSgt Skaggsā book has many outstanding principles on fieldcraft. It's a Round Robin this week as Nate and Francis grab a few news articles and hash them out. First up: new changes to Army Basic Training. We're marching in formations again! At least you don't have to pass Land Navigation to graduate anymore. - https://www.military.com/daily-news/2018/02/09/low-discipline-new-soldiers-prompts-army-redesign-basic-training.html After that, Francis rails against the new "Deploy or Get out" policy. Not because he doesn't want to deploy again (he doesn't though) but because of what a shit show it is to get your medical readiness up to speed when you're a part-timer. - https://www.military.com/daily-news/2018/02/15/pentagons-new-deploy-or-out-policy-could-separate-286k.html?ESRC=dod_180216.nl Finally, we ask the same question that haunts us every week. What the fuck is up with the Navy? A Naval XO is found drunk and naked in the woods with no real explanation. Still wouldn't be the worst officer either of us have dealt with. - https://www.military.com/daily-news/2018/02/14/three-navy-unit-leaders-fired-after-xo-reportedly-found-naked-woods.html?ESRC=navy_180220.nl NEW NEWSLETTER!
