Pastor Noah has a go at Burger King. And he walks us through The Lord's Prayer: Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen. (The traditional version of the Lord's Prayer taken from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, 1662).
Diving into the Lord's Prayer, we look at the origin, meaning, and significance of this prayer. The Catechism reveals the Our Father as “the summary of the whole Gospel” as it includes all that we believe. Fr. Mike helps us understand that this prayer focuses our hearts on the Father and prioritizes our desires. As we begin this prayer in the Father's name, we know who we are addressing, and we know we can trust the Lord as our Father. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2759-2764. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/ciy Please note: The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.
As we enter this Advent season, we may be faced with a new way of doing things, new circumstances, or even new grief. Sometimes the words and structure of others can help bring new life to our prayers and spiritual practices. Sometimes liturgy, the set form of a religious experience, can offer a scaffolding we didn't even know we needed. We invited Kayla Craig into our conversation about the power of borrowed prayers. When someone else's words speak to our spirits, we can experience the Body of Christ in a powerful way. This time of year, Advent, lends itself especially well to introducing "borrowed prayers" into our rhythms. We remember the saints before us and those who celebrate and remember Christ's first arrival still today. As you consider what it means to introduce liturgy into your season, we pray that it gives you a rich connection to the Church and to your own practices of remembering the birth of Christ as we wait for his return. Connect with Kayla On Instagram here and here. This is her substack and her website. A few things mentioned Kayla's new book for families, Every Season Sacred: Reflections, Prayers, and to Nourish Your Soul and Nurture Your Family Throughout the Year From Strength to Strength by Arthur Brooks Great Prayer of Thanksgiving based on Luke 1:46-55 Submitted by Rev. Nathan Williams , Covenant Presbyterian Church, West Des Moines, IA liturgylink We praise your greatness, O Lord, and our spirits rejoice in you, our Savior. You looked with favor on your unlikely servant Mary, and she delivered a blessing for all generations. You, the Almighty, have done great things, and your name is ever holy. From the depth of your compassion, you gave life to Jesus, your Son, who came to show mercy on those who need you most, from generation to generation. His perfect love showed your strength, and his humility made the proud stumble. His death cast down from their thrones the powers of death, and his resurrection lifted humanity up from the lowliness of the grave. Come upon us now with your Holy Spirit, and let your power overshadow this meal, O Most High. As we share this bread and cup, fill us with the life of Jesus Christ. May we bear him into the world once again, so that we may empty ourselves of unjust wealth and fill the hungry with good things. Make us your servant people, signs of your promise of mercy, in the name of the coming Christ. We pray in his name, saying… (The Lord's Prayer) Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen. Every Moment Holy A Liturgy for the Christmas Season Questions to consider Are borrowed prayers helpful for me? Do they feel comforting? Do they give words to my feelings and experiences? How might I experience a liturgical church service in a way that brings me closer to the saints around the world? How does my own faith story impact my worship style?
At New Promise Church you will see people of all ages, from a variety of backgrounds and at different stages of their spiritual journey. We desire to draw closer to Jesus by understanding who He is and what He has done for us.
We begin our new series focusing on the Lord's Prayer by focusing on the first line - Our Father in Heaven. Josh encourages us to enjoy the presence of our loving Father, sitting with Him, resting at His feet and praising His goodness. We apologise for the loss of audio in the first section of this recording.
Tune in for Week One of our series on The Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6 as our College Pastor, Adam Tarver, reminds us of how Jesus teaches us to pray.
Martin Luther once said that if he could just understand the first two words of the Lord's Prayer -Our Father-, he would never be the same again. I agree, and would simply add- we will never pray the same way again. It make all the difference to know that we are praying to 1- a personal, intimate Father, 2- an omnipotent, involved Father, 3- a caring, loving Father.
We begin our series through The Lord's Prayer this week. First up, a sermon from Elder Ben Lillard on "Our Father".
Today, Pastor Sarah Redman talks about how our prayers might sound to God. She challenges us to pray to a God who loves us and Who invites us to call Dad.
Isaiah 42:1-9; Romans 6:1-11; Matthew 3:13-17 When Jesus was coming up out of the baptismal waters, the voice of the Father proclaimed Him as His Son, in whom He delighted. Those words would be repeated on the Mount of Transfiguration, but with this order to the disciples: “Listen to Him!” Those two events “framed” Jesus' ministry of obedient service and His revelation of God's great love even before His sacrifice on the cross. Seeing Him, we learn what it means to be “alive to God in Christ Jesus,” as Paul urges in the Epistle. We are also “framed”—considered God's children through our Baptism. It is all grace, of course; we never achieve our Lord's righteousness, but are given it as a gift. Today we listen again to the Gospel, respond with prayer and praise, and are given grace to tell our friends what Christ has done for us all.
Organ Sonata VI by Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) is based on “Vater unser im Himmelreich,” a German chorale by Martin Luther based on “The Lord's Prayer.” Mendelssohn was greatly influenced by Bach's writing.
Thursday December 8, 2022 [Summary of Marcus Dods on the Lord's Prayer] When the utmost skill and strength of the child have failed, he runs to his father, never doubting that with him is more skill and sufficient strength. We must not lower the Father to our level. We must seek His level, the words and lovely ways of heaven itself. If we cannot see a solution, we must never think that God sees none either. He sees as we cannot and nothing will be impossible with Him. Pray to "Our Father in heaven" and know that He sees clearly the... for full notes: https://www.cgtruth.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=2735

GOSPEL POWER l AUGUST 15, 2022 - MONDAY Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Gospel: Lk 1:39-56 39In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, 40where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit 42and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. 43And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? 44For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. 45And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.” 46And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; 49for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. 52He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; 53he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. 54He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.” 56And Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home. Heaven is not only an after-death reality. It becomes present on earth whenever someone allows God's will to reign supreme in one's life and relationships. This is the underlying truth in the petition in the Lord's Prayer: “Our Father who art in heaven… thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Mary, by her faithfulness and obedience to God's will, began living heaven partially while still on earth. Her visit to her cousin Elizabeth gives us a glimpse of her Spirit-directed life, especially her sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of others, even at the cost of sacrifice. The belief that Mary was assumed into heaven at the conclusion of her earthly life speaks to us about the faithfulness of the Father to whom she entrusted her life and who fulfilled her hope for the fullness of that heaven that she began to live partially on earth. This belief assures us, who are still on our earthly pilgrimage, that our hopes too will not be disappointed. Lord Jesus, keep our wills aligned with God's will, that we may begin to experience heaven partially now, while yearning to enjoy its fullness at the end of this life. Amen.

According to national surveys, most of us pray at least sometimes. But if we're honest, many of us aren't exactly sure we're doing it ‘right.' “Our Father...” These summoning first words of the Lord's Prayer immediately direct our attention to the divine as a patriarchal figure—a metaphor for a father watching over his household. Metaphors are a powerful and useful device for something abstract, like God. Where does this specific metaphor of a Father come from, and are you comfortable calling on a patriarchal figure? Perhaps, you grew up without a father or had a less than stellar father. What then? Should we limit our use of metaphors when it comes to the God of scripture or recast the metaphor using today's examples? Pastor Tony Minear, Ph.D. invites you to join us this week as we explore the first line of The Lord's Prayer. What does it mean that God is our Father "in heaven" and why does that matter for prayer?
What does it mean that God is not just Father, but OUR Father?
The Lord's Prayer “Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.” – Jesus in Matthew 6:9-13 Luke 11:1-4

I have come to learn recently that there are two main pathways to happiness - The Hedonic Pathway chasing pleasure and enjoyment while avoiding pain and the Eudaimonic Pathway seeking purpose and meaning through living with virtue. In this episode I attempt to speak to your pain recognizing that you feel trapped in the Hedonic pathway which is causing you suffering in chronic illness, chronic pain, emotional madness, and perhaps caught in a spiritual crisis of identity. The Hedonic Pathway to happiness is fleeting never truly satisfying our Soul. Therefore, pleasure leads to addiction and pain leads to aversion. If you maintain an identity within this pathway then happiness is only found in the people, places and things of this world. Something outside of you makes you happy. You are essentially needing immediate gratification as your 'source' of happiness. Eventually you will feel empty "masturbating with life" and look to fill that emptiness with more Hedonic pleasure thinking more will silence the empty feeling. It doesn't and you don't feel more happiness inside. You have "sold your soul to the devil" It also speaks loudly to the Lord's Prayer Our Father - where it ends with "...and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen." The Eudaimonic Pathway to happiness is eternal because it satisfies the Soul within. It establishes a connection to the source of life and the source of love within oneself. It is not necessarily free from fears or pain, yet it is freedom from suffering as you navigate within yourself, cultivating your true heart to transcend the suffering. Both pathways express the Eastern Philosophy of Karma ~ " What you sow you reap." In Daniel Goldstein's 2011 Ted Talk "The Battle Between Your Present and Future Self" He quotes N.W. Senior as saying "To Obstain from the enjoyment which is in our power, or seek distant rather than immediate results, are among the most painful exertions of the human will." And so living with virtue means cultivating and practicing virtues of Self Mastery, Wisdom, Courage, Love, Hope, Gratitude, Curiosity and Zest. Through which one 'makes love to life' and fill their life with purpose and meaning. To Be and Become the Change in the world you want to see in the world is another quote from Gandhi that hits the Eudaimonic Happiness Pathway bullseye. Matthew 6:9 "Our Father"
The Lord's Prayer is not just something that we pray in church some Sunday mornings. It's a gift from Jesus to give us a model on how we can pray. For this reason, we ought to be praying this prayer on a regular basis. But before we can pray it, we have to understand what it says. This sermon series will go through the Lord's Prayer, line by line, and break down what is happening so that we we pray, we understand what is happening to us as we pray it. The first part of the prayer contains a tension: God as Father, and God as hallowed one. The tension may seem stark, but in reality, if you can grasp the tension well, you can move on and pray the rest of the prayer with abandon. Pastor Joel walks us through the tension.
God is our True Father and We are His True Children because of Jesus for You.“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. [10] Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. [11] Give us this day our daily bread, [12] and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. [13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
The Lord's Prayer – Part 4 “Hallowed Be Your Name” Last week we considered the preface to the Lord's Prayer “Our Father in heaven”. We considered his Fatherly goodness and our childlike reverence. We talked about coming before God with “heavenly affections” that give us hope for the future and confidence in the present. We recognized that we are praying to a God who is Sovereign and full of grace. This does not weaken our responsibility to prayer but strengthens The post “Hallowed Be Your Name” (Luke 11:1-4) appeared first on Grace Presbyterian Church (PCA).
Chris Wienand // We begin a new journey together through prayer. Over the next few weeks we will explore the prayer that Jesus taught his followers to pray.

The post The Lord's Prayer: Our Father In Heaven / David Livingston appeared first on Veritas Church of Iowa City.
On Sunday, March 3 our senior pastor continued preaching through the Lord's Prayer from Matthew 6:9-13. Focusing on Jesus' use of a familiar term for God--calling him "Father," Pastor Craig challenged us to keep a balance between austerity and irreverence as we seek to be intimate with the holy. The religious leaders of Jesus' day only thought of God as a distant, awesome deity, so when Jesus called him "Father" in the Lord's Prayer it was so innovative. Jesus put before the people (and us) the possibility of knowing God intimately.

At Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, our senior pastor continued in our Matthew sermon series, looking again in Matthew 6 at the Lord's Prayer. We began looking at the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 focusing on the first word "our." Jesus prays "OUR Father," not MY Father--though God the Father certainly is Jesus' father. Jesus uses "our" because it's a community word, and it's vital that we're connected to community life. If we want to flourish in our lives, we must live and pray in community.

Haydon launches our series on prayer by looking at the opening line of The Lord's Prayer: Our Father in Heaven, Holy is Your Name (Mt. 6: 9). More than just a conversation, prayer is an opportunity to connect with our Heavenly Dad intimately; to encounter Him & be transformed as we come to know Him as Father.
This short clip is an excerpt of the entire message on "The Reality of God | Part 3: Prayer- New Creation Communication". The Lord's Prayer (the Disciples Prayer) was a prayer Jesus taught his disciples to pray in a time when salvation was not yet realised to man. This message sheds light on how this prayer is fulfilled in all who believe in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. #LifeDeeperStill
"Thy will be done" is a phrased used primarily by faith-based people. It's actually found in the Bible 3 times: in the Lord's Prayer and the time prior to Christ's crucifixion. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. We trust in the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
