YEE-HAW Flashers, buckle up because this week we are joined by our FIRST guest in Montreal, the pride of Alberta, rootin' tootin' Joel Slavik! Besides assless chaps and T-bone steaks, Joel also slings hilarious one-liners and a jawline that won't quit. He brought in Kendrick Lamar's iconic 2012 album, "Good Kid, M.A.A.D City", an album three white kids from the west coast of Canada are incredibly qualified to discuss. Don't worry, though, we steered clear of any controversial topics and spent most of our time discussing 9/11 and the intersection of Catholicism and Tim Hortons. Standard stuff. Also discussions about joke writing and our favourite bomb stories. This is a music podcast, sorta. Born Norman Washington Giscombe on June 6, 1957, Junior had been making the rounds of the London music scene, just as the Britfunk movement was bridging the gap of a racially-divided England with its friendly and inviting sound, one inspired by American R&B, soul and funk. After dabbling in rock and even Disco, Junior found his groove with producer Bob Carter and tapped into the words of wisdom of his Jamaican mother to create a song that touched a nerve with audiences in the UK and the US.With its universal message of love, knowledge, and self-acceptance, “Mama Used To Say” helped Junior make history as one of the first British soul singers to cross over to America, and served as inspiration and praise for a number of equally iconic performers.Show TracklistingGet Up and Dance (Norman Giscombe Jr.)Love Dies (Junior)Let Me Know (Junior)Mama Used To Say (Junior)Mama Used To Say - American Instrumental Mix (Junior)I Specialize in Love (Sharon Brown)Mama Used To Say - American Remix (Junior)Too Late (Junior)Oh Louise (Junior)Junior on Social Media:Website: https://www.juniorgiscombe.co.ukInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/juniorgiscombe_/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/juniorgiscombeTwitter: https://twitter.com/JuniorGiscombeHost and Producer: Diego MartinezExecutive Producer: Nicholas "NickFresh" PuzoAudio Engineer: Adam Fogel Follow us on social media: @choonspodSubscribe to our PATREON: patreon.com/choonspod

Norman Washington "Junior" Giscombe (born 6 June 1957) is an English singer-songwriter (frequently known simply by the mononym, Junior) who was one of the first British R&B artists to be successful in the United States. He is best known for his 1982 hit single, "Mama Used to Say". CAREERGiscombe was born in Wandsworth, London, and was a backing vocalist with Linx between 1980 and 1982. When turning towards a solo career, he was first billed simply as Junior and he scored a #7 hit in the UK Singles Chart in 1982, with "Mama Used to Say". His follow-up single, "Too Late" also made the Top 20 in the UK. "Mama Used to Say" was also a Top 40 Pop hit and Top 5 R&B in the United States, earning him a "Best Newcomer" award from Billboard magazine. Sometime (most likely) around 1984 and 1985, Junior Giscombe recorded (and very possibly co-wrote) an unknown number of songs with Phil Lynott, the former leader, vocalist and bass player of hard rock band Thin Lizzy. Lynott died in January 1986 and the songs were never officially released. Most remain as demos, but one of the songs, "Lady Loves to Dance", was mastered and nearly released before being pulled by the record company. Some of the songs are available on YouTube, including "What's the Matter Baby" (Giscombe provides backing vocals) and "Time (and Again)" (Giscombe shares vocals with Lynott). After a period outside the charts, he made a brief return to the Top 10 in 1987 when he sang a duet with Kim Wilde on "Another Step (Closer to You)". He also became involved with the formation of Red Wedge in 1986 with Billy Bragg, Jimmy Somerville and Paul Weller, and had been a part of The Council Collective with The Style Council, Jimmy Ruffin and others for the 1984 fundraising single, "Soul Deep" and in 1992 appeared on stage at the 1992 Labour rally in SheffieldSheffield_Rally singing Curtis Mayfield's[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis_Mayfield ([1])] 'Move on Up'. Later Giscombe became better known as a songwriter for various artists, including Sheena Easton. He is currently a DJ with internet radio station Solarradio.com, although he is not listed on their website. Giscombe is the uncle of British comedian Richard Blackwood, who sampled "Mama Used to Say" on his single "Mama – Who Da Man" in June 2000. www.juniorgiscombe.co.uk www.joekelleyradio.com Originally aired February 23rd, 2006

For anyone furloughed or out of work right now and not sure what your next move is, this episode may spur some creative energy in you. I happen to know our next guest because she grew up in the same town as I did, and was friendly with my family. We connected on Instagram a little while back, which is when I got wind that she was creating content for brands and serving as an IG influencer. This got me wondering how she started doing that, because in her regular day to day life she’s a mama of three kids who doesn’t have a lot of time, yet she still managed to grow a network and eventually collaborate with brands and post just about every single day. She’s on her way to monetizing her instagram account now, so her story was one that I thought many of us at home and out of work may need to hear. About Hillary Kezelman Hillary Kezelman resides in sunny Southern California with her 3 babes and husband of 8 years. Being a stay at home mom is her daily job and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Instagram has been her creative outlet as it has opened many doors of friendships and the opportunity to explore brands in the industry. Over the past two months, she transitioned from just posting weekly about her family to becoming an influencer with daily and regular posts. She works with a variety of brands and helps them advertise their products. You can find Hillary’s instagram @Hillkez91011 and follow her journey! I'm talking about your momma, what are you gonna do about it?
It's always good to know what ingredients are in your food. It can help you prevent an allergic reaction, count your calorie intake, and avoid becoming a cannibal. Leonarda Cianciulli was clever about how she disposed of her bodies. It's hard to tell though if that was crazier than the reason she murdered in the first place. ---------- Written and produced by Schuyler Fastenau with the voice talents of Julie Sesnovich, Aimee Ewell, Christian Corpora, Mike Allen, Daniel Jones, Heather Geisler, Ryan Kaul, Taylor Walter, Shaina Hammer, Alec Nieslon, and Keelan Brown. interlude /ɪntəl(j)uːd/ Male Voices Only From the french Interlude Definition: a brief piece of music, dance, etc., given between the sections of another performance (C14: from Medieval Latin interludium, from Latin inter- + ludus play)) Still rebuilding my database, concurrently working on a request from my son.. this upload is just something I dropped in between sessions.. Hence the title "interlude". Playlist made with male voices only to take on a challenge proposed by one follower who, noticing that I use very few male vocalists, through the gauntlet and dared me.. True, I much prefer female vocalists to the point that some male ranges and tessiitures actually get under my skin.. One of my quirks.. But there are some male artists I absolutely love.. Soulful set with surprisingly mostly current tracks I will not blog on this set too much, it is an interlude after all and will be back very shorlty. A word on the art.. This equation is from the Feynam lectures on physics and is the best description of the propagation of a sound wave through a medium.. I knew you wanted to know.. Playlist: Intro They Call Me Mr DJ. Chuck Lafung 2013 Walk On The Wild Side (Rocco Raimundo Extended Edit) [Xtian the Love Edit feat DJ Spen]. Triple J Exclusive feat. Lou Reed 2013 Suit & Tie (DJ Meme Soundcloud Tuxedo mix). Justin Timberlake 2013 From The Inside (Original Mix). Chasing Kurt 2013 Rolling In The Deep (Classic Mix Soundcloud) M. OtherSoul feat John Legend 2013 I Am Over You (Original mix). Seb Skalski feat. Donald Sheffey 2013 Fly (Reel People Reprise). Tony Momrelle 2012 Don't Look Any Further (Original Mix). Klaide, feat. Julio Cesar and Hanna Marine 2013 Music Rises Up (Claptone Remix). Kyodai, feat. Stee Downes 2013 Sexy Girl (Matt Early Main Mix). Soulfunktion feat. Kenny Thomas 2012 Until We Meet Again (Sean McCabe Remix). DJ Roland Clark presents Urban Soul 2013 I Know What's On Your Mind (Main Mix). Tortured Soul vs. Black Coffee 2013 Tonight (Classic Vocal Mix). Mike Scot Richard Earnshaw & Chappell 2011 Mama Used to Say (Jerk House Connection Soulful Mix) [Xtian Edit]. Franky Boissy feat. Akram Sedkaqui Highlights: Starting with a remix/edit of Lou Reed, in memoriam.. another artist I owe to my brother.. The remix is not fantastic and my dub lazy but.. had to mark the occasion and fitted the male criteria. Do not miss " Music Rises Up" from Kyodai, the standout track of this set.. Now this is a male voice I love.. :).. And the Claptone remix has it all, Deep, Soulful, Sexy and even thown in for good measure a bit of Progressive DJ Meme's bootleg remix of JT's "Suit and Tie".. get over the rap bit and enjoy JT's talent. One if not the best voice around. "From the Inside" enjoy.. pure gem I do not remember how I found this one but massive distorted bass and perfect keys.. "Fly" Reel People on the remix.. Soulful and again what a voice.. perfect pitch.. "Don't Look Any Further" by that time I was in the mix, passed the point of no return and what do I drop.. A duet!!! Male/Vocalist.. Proof that even with a preset mind and playlist one cannot go against his instinct.. And yes I prefer Hannah Marine to Julio..:) Follow Matt early and Sean McCabe, these two are popping out on most of my sets.. From the Grant Nelson's crew, they have become family.. Nice and Soulful "I Know What's On Your Mind".. no set focusing on male voices would be complete without Tortured Soul... Anagel voice.. Finishing with Akram's rendition of the ultimate Soul classic "Mama Used to Say".. now that is A VOICE! Will be back very soon! A bientôt Xtian

First and foremost Happy New Year! Be Safe and Healthy wherever you are! 2013 New Year's Day Live Set (3 hours long beware before you on a mobile device and pay horrendous charges) Straight from the mixer, a 3 hour soulful, vocal and funky house extravaganza with all your favourites from 2012 and late 2011. It was sunny, on the early afternon of NYD, we were on our roof top, with a makeshift stand for the gear made out of an old plot printer from work, powered speakers just bought from the pawnbroker down the road and surrounded by close friends with whom we always try (rain or shine) to spend the first day of the year.. It had the feel of an original "House Party".. Above all, I wanted to avoid the disaster of last year, and I, therefore, selected the very, very top shelf of my vocal house (hand)bag House.. Nothing groundbreaking, all overground> This was not the time to be "clever"... The aim was to get my friends to come to me and say "oh I love this one", "this is one of my favourite", or "what is that? I love it".. well.. it might not have been underground and there were no edits nor acapellas, but I think I did achieve what I attempted.. We had a GREAT New's Day and this very simple, happy set made the Freemasons' one dimensional set later on very bearable. Thanks to Viv and my friends for making it possible and see you next year, same place, same time and hopefully same friends. This was a very good format! Playlist: 1. Fade (Original Pt. I). 2012-02-24 Happy Valentine’s Day ( Bonne St. Valentin ) As the Intro says “ For all the lovers in the House tonight”. First mix of 2012.. All about Divas.. pity I did not have time to slot in Whitney, she would have blended right in.. A blend of classic, soulful, funky vocal gems scattered on my hard drive. My Valentine's gift to the House community at large. Whilst it is far from buying as polished as I would have liked it to be (little spare time currently), the set is solid and ought to bring a smile on your face. At the very minimum, you will have to love the female vocalists displayed here. One of the few criteria I gave myself to choose the playlist, was that the vocals had to be interpreted not just belted in pre-mix production and that most songs had to be "happy".. It does start on the slow side, but do not get the wrong impression, you will sing-a -long and be on your feet by the end of the set. In there ( scroll to 15m20s) a very, very special unreleased mash-up by Grant Nelson of “Fade” and “ Sun in my Eyes” straight from his secret DJ stash, which I caught on his podcast . As I am sure that I am more than twisting the copyright rules to even use it, I have asked for his permission.. If I were to be told to disallow the downloads, I will do it immediately.. So you better rush and download this just in case.. because the talent and creation shown here by the Admiral Nelson are just amazing! Playlist 2006 Fade (Original Pt. I & II)( Dr Feelgood Edit). Gadjo & Alexandra Prince 2011 You’ve Got the Love (Mark Knight Remix) [Xtian Edit w/Steve Angello DJ Tool). Florence And The Machine 1997 You Got the Love (Now Voyager mix). The Source feat Candi Staton Highlights: too many! "Fade" a track I did not know before hearing Nelson’s mash-up) is just beautiful, with crafted ethereal vocals.. “Sun in my Eyes” always been one of my favourite jam, with great vocals, lyrics that actually make sense, just perfect. “Never Let the Sun Fade” is Grant Nelson’s mash-ups, which I just borrowed and tried to connect with the original mix. “Cuddly Toy” old anthem, amazing re-interpretation from Beverley Knight and Soul UK.. Her take on “Mama Used to Say” is funky, yet soulful.. a real House diva. “I Can’t Stop” fun and just dropped naturally in the middle of the set.. “So Many Times” one of my top five tracks and since this was a valentine present, I wanted to slot it in for Vivienne. Finally “You Got the Love” … Mark Knight & Florence & the Machine remix of this seminal house anthem.. with the original to follow to fittingly end this Valentine mix.. Hope you love this set as much as I do (in spite of the “rush to publish” aspect).
My mother gave so much to so many & received nothing in return. I love you mom. Love your self now your job is done.
2011 Dec "Take Your Time Young Man.." Obviously a wink and a nod to the mini "Mama Used to Say" mix and a private message to my nine year old son.. I am almost” housed-out” running out of good material and about to venture into Tranceland to get ready for the end of year festivities... Furthermore, in light of valuable comments posted on the web, I must confess that I did listen and have consequently tamed down the “gratuitous” sampling in this episode. The gist of “Take Your Time Young Man” is to transport the listener from a deep/techy groove (I need street cred ;) ) to a happy, funky place by the end of the set. I will have you on your tippy toes dancing around the room within a very small half hour! We start comfortably sat in Barcelona chairs in the back room, with a low, deep underground club vibe, filtered and tweaked to the max all destined to awaken your aural senses . Do not be discouraged ! Slowly some snippets of funk are introduced and sure enough we progress to an old skool soulful place to accommodate the glucose addict residing in all of us. Finally, we leave our comfy chairs, step in the main room and shake our collective a$$es to big club tunes… Well, at least this was the initial idea. If by the end of this set, you have not felt the urge to stamp your feet and lift your hands… I simply failed… A mini-mix, within the mix, with “Mama Used to Say” which, I thought would be a fun old skool tune for my children to be introduced to onto a Sandy Rivera’s extravaganza to mark his full return to big tunes in 2012. Akram Sedkaoui 2011 Mama Used to Say (Jask Thaisoul Club Mix)..Franky Boissy feat. Akram Sedkaoui 2011 Walk Away (ATFC's VB Weekender Vocal).ATFC feat. Lisa Shaw 2011 It’s Alright (BlackBird Streetmood Mix). Dj Cem feat.Chinua Hawk 2011 Stealing Love (Original Mix) (I Need to Love Me Xtian Edit). Grant Nelson 2011 Need to Love Me (Virus J Remix). Kings of Tomorrow feat. April 2011 Love (Original vs. Daddy’s Groove Remix ).Sandy Rivera & Yasmeen Highlights: there are no weak tunes in this mix and I am surprised how current it turn out to be (many tracks released in the 3rd quarter of 2011). To raise my street cred I had a play with the 2 fist tracks with filters etc.. But from " Deep House (Inside Me)" you are in pure house bliss. I absolutely love the retake of "Mama Used to Say", so melodic, so well well produced and Akram Sedkaoui has a crystal voice. Those guys brought us "Each & Everyda"y this year, they are on a roll! In "Walk Away" ATFC teamed up with Lisa Shaw and showed that all we need is a great vocalist, a great tune and great production.. Not so hard ;).. "Stealing Love" from Grant Nelson, need I say more.. And then I had a play with Sandy Rivera's great tunes of the year.. with a remix of "I Need to Love Me" not to miss. To sum up, it would appear that the "old guys" Grant Nelson, Rivera, Layabouts, ATFC has showing all the young ones, that they can wipe them off the charts at any time.. Travelling to Tranceland (unless I managed to finish off one mix I have on the hard drive and can't wrap up) as I need to prepare a New Eve Set.. and a brand new Traktor S2 deck is waiting for me still in the box.. Panting in anticipation..
