Born in Saskatoon SK, I think it's safe to say we all know Mark from his days growing up in Elk Point AB. He was undrafted & played his Junior 'A' with the Bonnyville Pontiacs. During his final season he led the AJHL in scoring & was the league MVP. He played one season for Western Michigan NCAA Div 1 & then signed in 2007 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has since spent 10 years in the NHL playing 567 games split between Pittsburgh, Columbus, Edmonton & currently Winnipeg. His mindset on understanding his role as a 12th forward is humbling & a very interesting chat. All episodes can also be found on Apple podcasts, Youtube & Spotify New guests every Monday & Wednesday

Can you believe it's already been another week since we graced your eardrums with a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio? You can't, can you? No, I didn't think so. Fortunately, the wait is over and we've got a fresh podcast that's ready to fill you with knowledge just in time for the weekend.   To start off this week's podcast, we looked got caught up on all the pre-season shenanigans as the Edmonton Oilers work their way towards the big dance starting on October 2nd. Two of the biggest surprises so far have to be Tomas Jurco and Ethan Bear and how they both seem to have steadily solidified their place on the roster. We discussed where these two fit and whether or not they have anyone peeking over their shoulder that could steal their jobs going forward. We also touched on the gif of Mark Letestu that went viral last night after the veteran centreman was caught on TV taking a quick shot of mustard. Next up, we had The Nation Network's Cat Silverman on the podcast with a Mary Brown's pop-in to discuss what we should expect from the Arizona Coyotes as well as the Oilers' goaltending duo of Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen. Lastly, we ended off this episode with Ken Boehlke from SinBin.vegas to give us a rundown on all things Golden Knights. All-in-all it was another jammed podcast and one that you'll definitely want to check out. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Hockey writers Jim Matheson and Derek Van Diest talk to sports editor Craig Ellingson about the trading landscape ahead for the Edmonton Oilers, who are effectively out of the National Hockey League playoff race. Before the summer hits, there's the upcoming NHL trade deadline on Feb. 26, which will almost certainly see Oilers forwards Patrick Maroon and Mark Letestu, both set to become unrestricted free agents in July, peddled to other teams. But it's not as though the Oilers don't need such players — take Maroon, for example. He's on pace for about 20 goals this season after scoring 27 in 2016-17. How do the Oilers replace that?

On this 100th go-around, we kick things off with some of the most notable Outjuries of the year happening at a key time, as three elite blue-liners make a return to their respective lineups with fantasy hockey championships on the line.  We also keep an eye on the continued unlikely developments in creases around the league, bouncing from St Louis, to New Jersey, to Long Island, with stops in Calgary and San Jose on the way (granted, a terribly inefficient real-life itinerary). Some unfamiliar names are heating up, including a couple Blues who are the unexpected leaders in team scoring since the start of February. Meanwhile, some very familiar names are cooling off, begging the question of whether it's time to cut bait with star players in Boston, New York and Vancouver, rather than risk running out of room in your semi-finals and finals matchups. We also take a look at a call-up in Anaheim, a very notable outjuried forward in Winnipeg, the sparse bluelines in Ottawa and Tampa, a productive Coyote d-man with initials that aren't OEL, a couple role-playing Oilers who are catching our eye, and injuries and their implications from Tampa, Pittsburgh, Montreal, Ottawa, San Jose and more. And remember: SeatGeek is offering our listeners a $20 rebate off your first ticket purchase! It's the holiday edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, which is to say that it's exactly the same as all the others! Perhaps next week, when the podcast takes the week off, is the true holiday edition.. (take note: our next regular episode comes at you on January 8th).   Unwanted holidays begin our show, as Elan and Brian unwrap the effects of injuries around the NHL, including a couple of tender tenders in Tampa and Detroit, a shelved blueliner also in Detroit, and infirm top six forwards in New York and St. Louis. Returns from unwanted holidays follow, with kudos being handed out to a back-to-backup goalie in Chicago, best wishes to a Bruin forward edging his way out of the doghouse, and a couple of Hurricanes whose output will likely remain limited by their locale. Then, it's on to players gone AWOL, who've taken holidays without permission or approval from anyone. The guys lament the scoresheet absences of the next best Oiler after McDavid, a bandaid boy Blue, a couple of Habs, and the Sabre who was supposed to fix everything. We put a bow on this edition by saluting those players working overtime for your fantasy team, with four Blue Jackets, three Minnesota Wild, two Calgary Flames, and a Leafs goalie on a hot streak.  Players featured on this episode include Alex Wennberg, Cam Atkinson, Jordan Eberle, Mark Letestu, Matt Dumba, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Brian Elliott, Matthew Tkachuk, Frederik Andersen, Petr Mrazek, Anthony Mantha, Shea Weber, Alex Radulov, Jack Eichel, Jimmy Howard, Jared Coreau, Ben Bishop, Kristers Gudlevskis, Mike Green, Rick Nash, Kyle Palmieri, Brandon Pirri, Mika Zibanejad, Derek Stepan, Ryan Sproul, Paul Stastny, Alex Steen, Corey Crawford, Scott Darling, David Pastrnak, Ryan Spooner, Frank Vatrano, Elias Lindholm, Derek Ryan, Eddie Lack, Patrick Maroon, Leon Draisaitl, Jason Zucker, Eric Staal, Niklas Kronwall, Brian Rafalski, Cory Schneider and more.   This episode was sponsored in part by SeatGeek. Injuries may have decimated Ottawa, and the guys begin by seeing how it may impact the able bodied players who can still take the ice. They also tip their cap to a couple d-men who've swapped an IR spot in Pittsburgh, and consider whether Claude Julien can bring a staggering Habs roster back to life. Then, a hotly anticipated rookie who couldn't impress at this season's outset is back for another kick at the can in Columbus, while teammates around him alternately slump and awaken. Outjuries double as snoozers, as the merits of activating or jettisoning a returning centreman in Dallas and a blueliner in Anaheim are debated, with a healthy but quiet-til-now Panthers defenseman thrown in for good measure. Meanwhile, the debate over whether a certain Ducks forward can maintain a 55+ point pace appears all but settled, and new lines in Anaheim lead to a depth chart search for fantasy value outside of the usual suspects.  In hot streaks, Brian thinks Elan's feeling confident about one Canuck too many. The segment also features a couple Coyotes forwards and defensemen are helpful for as long as they remain in the desert, an entire line reigniting a pretty great even-strength run in Detroit, an assist-happy Blue who Brian prefers as a goal-scorer, a 60+ point scorer starting to maybe look like one again, a doghouse escapee in Boston, Brent freaking Burns, and Elan pining over vintage Zetterberg. Goalies get some time in the spotlight, including thoughts on why the Blues goalies are suddenly keeping the red lamp from being lit, a Philadelphia goalie whose only hot in the category of 'games started', an apparently reliable Western Conference goalie who could be spelling his starter more often, an emerging title change in Florida, and a struggling Isles tender with rough waters ahead. Also, what the heck should you do with a couple struggling Jets as they enter their bye weeks? And which Jet forward should you pick up when they hit the ice again? Players discussed on this episode include Mark Stone, Kris Letang, Bo Horvat, Henrik Zetterberg, Alex Galchenyuk, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Jaden Schwartz, Martin Hanzal, Zach Werenski, Michal Neuvirth, Oscar Klefbom, Jordan Eberle, Thomas Greiss, Aaron Dell, Nikolaj Ehlers, Ryan Spooner, Petr Mrazek, Mike Hoffman, Bobby Ryan, Brad Marchand, Max Pacioretty, Ryan Dzingel, Zack Smith, Curtis Lazar, Erik Karlsson, Craig Anderson, Mike Condon, Justin Schultz, Chris Kunitz, Jake Guentzel, Carl Hagelin, Shea Weber, Jeff Petry, Brendan Gallagher, Carey Price, Brandon Saad, Brandon Dubinsky, Jason Spezza, Patrick Sharp, Sami Vatanen, Radek Faksa, Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler, Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Brent Burns, Rikard Rakell, Aaron Ekblad, Nick Ritchie, Ondrej Kase, Alex Edler, Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Troy Stecher, Radim Vrbata, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Michael Stone, Alex Goligoski, Tomas Tatar, Anthony Mantha, Jake Allen, Carter Hutton, Steve Mason, Leon Draisaitl, Andrej Sekera, Mark Letestu, Mark Scheifele, Patrick Laine, Mathieu Perreault and more. * * *   Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes!   If you enjoy the show, please support future episodes by becoming a patron of Keeping Karlsson.    Keeping Karlsson patrons can join our patron-only Facebook group and take part in (and receive audio from) a monthly live, face-to-face and interactive Keeping Karlsson recording!   You can also support us by telling a friend, subscribing to and reviewing Keeping Karlsson on iTunes, and following us on Twitter (@keepingkarlsson). 8th Nov 2019 - This week Dan and Will discuss injuries. Smooth recap. Winning the cup/Relegated incl the Leafs. Starters/Scratches incl Gritty, Consoles and Mark Letestu. We chat to Jen or NHL History girl as you know her. A fascinating chat detailing race issues in Quebec. The Richard Riots. Towing the NHL line and what movie character Jen is the equivalent of. Then the news. Lucic doesn't learn and me and Will are stunned that no one else seems bothered by it. We discuss Taylor Hall being booed by his own fans and why they are absolutely right to do it. History is on their side. Darcy Kuemper is good and Will cant see the answer that is right under his nose to a goalie question. The Batman film. Will bullies me because the flooring in his house isn't ready. The winter classics jerseys are retro but why? Will has a meltdown over man v 8 year old. All this and the usual guff.
