It had to come to an end eventually, Detroit sees their 6-game win streak come to an end at the hands of the Islanders. New York's style of hockey just didn't make for a good matchup for a quality driven offense like Detroit. Olli Maatta however did score twice, his first multi-goal game since March 1st, 2018. He is now a point per game in his 10 games since joining Detroit. He is also a big reason the Red Wings won over the Flyers. He had 3 points in the 1st as the Red Wings finished the first period up 5-1, looking poised for a dominant win. But as per usual, Detroit became conservative with a big lead, and allowed the Flyers, to claw back in the game off tipped shots and weak goaltending. But, in a shootout, when the game mattered most, Patrick Kane sealed the win, and ended the Wings 4-game losing streak. But, unfortunatley, they had to play again Saturday in New Jersey. The Detroit Red Wings start the season 2-0 after beating the Montreal Canadiens 3-0 and New Jersey Devils 5-2.
