Popi debuted May 2, 1975 on CBS at 8/7pm Central. This sitcom pilot was based on the 1969 film Popi with Alan Arkin and Rita Moreno. "Popi had a dream...and the only way he could make it come true was to put his two boys in a rowboat and set them adrift in the ocean." This podcast contains a short review of the Popi film, as well as a bit of behind-the-scenes information on its production. Then, just about everything known about the now-obscure Popi series is covered, including a recording of the theme song not heard in nearly 50 years, courtesy TV historian Billy Ingram. On the latest episode of the podcast, Jamie comes very close to recommending lesbian pornography, Doug wants nothing more than to swap out the lead of the film for a hunky oaf, and we take some time to work on Obama impressions and discuss which of us would be a better proctologist. Edward (Richard Gere) is a wealthy industrialist who is feeling lonely one night while on a business trip. While cruising Hollywood Boulevard, he meets a prostitute named Vivian (Julia Roberts) and he decides to hire her for the week to stay with him....what he didn't count on was falling in love. :o And what resulted was one of the most popular romantic comedies of all time, a worldwide phenomenon which launched Julia Roberts into the stratosphere. It was directed by the late, great Garry Marshall (Beaches, The Princess Diaries) and also co-starred Jason Alexander, Laura San Giacomo, and Hector Elizondo. It had a hugely popular soundtrack and features several iconic scenes.....but how does it hold up? On the eve of its 35th Anniversary AND Valentines Day, let's head back to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and Rodeo Drive, and find out.....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

It's Die Hard in a plane (with very few passengers)! This week, Phil and Liam are experiencing TURBULENCE, the 1997 action-thriller starring Ray Liotta, Lauren Holly, Hector Elizondo, Ben Cross, Brendan Gleeson, Rachel Ticotin…and a mystery Die Hard cast member! On Christmas Eve, convicted serial killer Ryan Weaver (Ray Liotta) is being transported across the country on an almost empty 747, with another prisoner and a group of federal marshals. Once airborne, Weaver escapes and wreaks havoc on board with the cops, passengers and the flight crew. When his actions result in the death of both pilots, it becomes up to lone Flight Attendant Teri Halloran (Lauren Holly) to somehow defeat Weaver and land the plane safely before it crashes! There's Die Hard (and Die Hard 2) DNA everywhere in this Xmas-set skybound thrill-ride, giving the boys plenty to examine in the comparison section. They also discuss the life and career of the film's late star Ray Liotta, listing their favorite performances among his stellar filmography. They talk in detail about the film's female cast - notably its leading lady Lauren Holly, and supporting performers Rachel Ticotin and Catherine Hicks – amid the wider context of the movie's provocative sexual politics. The boys then fly through the ‘Die Hard Oscars' and stick the landing with a dastardly edition of the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz! TURBULENCE trailer:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29nriO8ux0Q At the time of release, TURBULENCE is available to rent or buy on Prime Video, YouTube, Apple/iTunes, Fandango, and all the usual platforms! “You don't need to ask for directions anymore, you're no longer a fish out of water!” - Andrew on Axel's third time in Los Angeles On this week's episode, the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza tackles an action comedy sequel that didn't need to exist at all, and no one wanted to make in the first place, Beverly Hills Cop III! What in the hell tone were they shooting for with this movie? How is Axel not blamed for Inspector Todd's death at the hands of Ellis De Wald? Why did they replace Taggart with Hector Elizondo playing a guy who's just Taggart with different facial hair? How is Wonder World still open for business after all the carnage Axel and company carry out on park grounds? And how hilarious and great is this George Lucas cameo? PLUS: What was the Tunnel of Love supposed to represent at the end? Beverly Hills Cop III stars Eddie Murphy, Timothy Carhart, Stephen McHattie, Judge Reinhold, Hector Elizondo, John Saxon, Theresa Randle, Alan Young, Bronson Pinchot, and George Lucas as Disappointed Man; directed by John Landis. We're taking a look at one of the most suspenseful crime dramas of the 1970s. Brandon is joined by lawyer and journalist, Matt Belenky, to discuss 1974's The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Brandon and Matt praise the deliberately paced direction by Joseph Sargent. The movie perfectly mixed suspense with quirky comedy thanks to the script by Peter Stone. We also praise the performances from the ensemble cast including Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, Martin Balsam, Jerry Stiller, Hector Elizondo and Earl Hindman.
Perched on the hull of a wrecked Soviet freighter, a team of deep-sea miners led by head oceanographer Steven Beck comes face to face with a mutant creature that's the product of a failed genetic experiment. Please join myself and Corn Nation's Aaron Rastovski this evening at 8PM CST for the debut broadcast of All The Right Movies, a show for sports movie enthusiasts. Each week, we will review a memorable sports movie from a variety of angles. Of course, we'll cover the plot, best scenes and lines, but also things like the music, comedy - intentional or not - the quality of the sports scenes, were there adrenalin scenes?, was there a montage (think of Rocky as the gold standard), and just how Ludacris was the plot? (Roll with me here.) Tonight's show is Necessary Roughness which came out in 1991 and starred Scott Bakula, Hector Elizondo, Robert Loggia, Harley Jane Kozak and Larry Miller to name a few. A former Husker also made an appearance, so I figured what better way to kick things off?

Welcome to our podcast this week about "The Princess Diaries." We discuss the inaccurate representation of San Francisco geography, FMK the boys, and Pier 39 is NOT in Marin! When we're not fuming about cable cars on streets that don't have cables to car, how not to drive a stick shift on the hills of San Francisco, or why driving to the Embarcadero does NOT take you to Pacific Heights, we are gushing about Anne Hathaway, Mandy Moore, and our Queen of Genovia, Dame Julie Andrews. Let's not forget the comedy of Sanda Oh, "The queen is coming, to Grove High School." Our MVPs this week are the Prime Minister and his wife for acting the fool to save Mia. We stan Hector Elizondo's "I'm not a spy" spy despite very much being a spy when he's not being part of the sexiest relationship in this film. Oof! Thank you for being here today! *wave graciously*

Happy Valentine's Day, lovers! We decided to do a classic romcom that *one* of us had never seen, and drop it as a romantic, holiday bonus. So here we are, with a movie that doesn't work on paper, but big time works on the screen: a star-making turn by Julia Roberts who has “it” more than just about anyone has ever had, Richard Gere somehow making us like a 41 year old billionaire, Hector Elizondo being an all-time hotel daddy, Jason Alexander portraying the most punchable man of all time, Laura San Giacomo as a really fun bestie and PATRICK RICHWOOD as a scene stealing elevator man. Oh, and Garry Marshall with one of the most impossible directing assignments of all time, done perfectly. Folks? After 5 years, this is our longest single podcast episode of all time. We hope you enjoy it, and we love you for everything you've done for us. Happy Valentine's Day. If you'd like Kevin & Jon in your life on the regular, year-round? Join patreon.com/kevinandjon.

We're digging into the Rob Schneider bucket once again this week as we watched Necessary Roughness from 1991 featuring the Robmeister calling plays for a football team full of underdogs. Let me ask you a question. If I said I found a movie that features Scott Bakula, Kathy Ireland, Larry Miller, Robert Loggia, Sinbad, Senator Fred Thompson and of course Hector Elizondo would you think that it would be the greatest movie ever? So did we, but we found ourselves another thoroughly mediocre sports comedy. Our Julia Roberts streak continues this week with Runaway Bride! This unlikely spiritual successor to Pretty Woman reunites Julia Roberts, Richard Gere, Hector Elizondo, Larry Miller, Patrick Richwood (the elevator operator!), Kathleen Marshall and director Gary Marshall.Journalist Ike Graham is a columnist for USA Today. Short on time, he decides to write a scathing piece about a woman in a small town in Maryland who has left men at the altar 7 or 8 times. She's even got another one on the hook! He doesn't bother to check his sources (or source. He's been talking to one guy in a bar), and is promptly fired when the subject of his story sends her own blistering letter to the editor, pointing out numerous factual errors. In an attempt to save his career, Ike goes to Maryland to meet this woman, her family and her friends, and report on his findings to the world. So noble. Back to the usual grind this week now that spooky season has come to a close as the guys discuss The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. They're not alone though as they're joined by returning guest Sharon Horwatt, who knows an awful lot about this Disney franchise (is 2 movies enough for a franchise?)! Could John Rhys-Davies be playing a more cartoonish villain? What the hell is going on with Chris Pine's hair? Why couldn't Julie Andrews rap during the mattress-surfing party?! And could there be a more jarring needle drop than that Kelly Clarkson song? All this and a horny Hector Elizondo this week on the show! Next week: run! It looks like the woman he's infatuated with, Jennifer, died in a car accident, and Jim has little patience for Mitch's insistence that she's alive. But once a mobster starts threatening him for sniffing around, he takes up Mitch's offer to look for Jennifer in Seattle - and then things get really intense. This noir-inspired episode is atypical in style, and also stands out as a tight story with great performances! The Equalizer Season 4 Episode 10: Past Imperfect Aired on CBS: February 15, 1989 Directed by: Russ Mayberry Written by : Gail Morgan Hickman Featuring: Mark Margolis, Hector Elizondo, Katherine Cortez, Jose Edwin Soto A bittersweet episode, given the recent passing of Mark Margolis. It's his last episode as lovable Jimmy on The Equalizer and packs the most emotional punch. Jimmy acts as Big Brother to a fatherless boy named Tomas. It's a sweet relationship but gets a bit muddy when the boy's father shows up, and then a cartel and the agency and the DOJ are all chasing after him. We pay tribute to Mark Margolis the actor and the character Jimmy while also wondering if Jimmy is really a good fit for the Big Brother program. Also featuring a great guest spot by Hector Elizondo, snake tattoos, and more EQ series callbacks than usual, e.g. microdots. @equalizerspod equalizerspodcast at gmail dot com https://www.facebook.com/equalizerspodcast/

Movie Meltdown - Episode 608 Join us for a wrap-up of this year's Harry Dean Stanton Fest - featuring a discussion with biographer Susan Compo. And while we remember our favorite moments with Sean Young, we also mention… Warren Oates, Young Doctors in Love, watching movies in a cemetery, where did I get that voice, The Man Who Fell to Earth, laughing uproariously, changing seats while the vehicle was in motion, Hector Elizondo, front page of the LA Times, Frederic Forrest, F. Scott Fitzgerald, heading out to Joshua Tree to look for UFOs, a Corey art house movie, Sam Shepard, One from the Heart, this veneer of not caring, it was so designed to fail in a way that I find really fun, I was in my little childhood room with my rotary dial, Nicolas Roeg, Dream a Little Dream, a football field size open space, David Bowie, The Fourth War, Peter Fonda, roadtrips and mushrooms and Harry Dean Stanton's scene in Apocalypse Now. “Things go pretty seamlessly with Harry Dean Fest… and I've always said, that's just because of the magic and the energy that surrounded Harry.”

Micheal loves his memory. Carrie and Sarah are in Pittsburgh together again, just crying about how much they love each other over pancakes. The dogs go wild over the mail, and we decide that Blue's Clues has jumped the shark with all these spicy babies. Carrie loves boygenius and thinks "True Blue" is about her relationship with Sarah, a real true blue friend who never lets Carrie hide. As promised, Carrie and Sarah watch Pretty Woman together and meditate on power, sex, and gender. "You take care of you." Sarah identifies with Kit. 1990 was a good year for eyebrows. Carrie's college boyfriend used to turn corners in his truck and say "Like she's on rails, I tell ya." Sarah googles the cast of Urban Cowboy. Sarah, a single woman homeowner, also googles the Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974 and decides to celebrate this as a day of action. Carrie wants Vivian's suit with shorts, but butched up with some chunky chelsea boots. Sarah recommends a Halloween costume that comes with an unassuming weapon, like a sexy Mario with a monkey wrench. Maybe let's remake the film with only Kit and Vivian. Sarah is learning from therapy and taking those lessons into the real world and relationships. Sarah sees herself and allows herself to be seen. Sarah and Carrie hug. Carrie saves the world by rescuing a karaoke singer who can't find the pitch and looks to her for help. Carrie believes real heroes step in to help and then sit down when help is no longer needed. Carrie is the Hector Elizondo of Pittsburgh institution Belvedere's Ultra Dive. May we all be Hector Elizondo. Carrie and Sarah discuss their new book project, How to Make a Move Without Moving: a collection of essays about trying to attract sex partners with psychic signals, pheromones, and juicy smells. Carrie tries it out on a fella at karaoke through aggressive eye contact. Sarah says to use your words rather than broadcasting a pussy net to catch whatever is around. Carrie loves Sarah's new Chris Carraba haircut and her radical food acceptance. Sarah carries her happiness with her. Carrie is loving Sarah's whole look these days. Carrie and Sarah talk about dissociating from their feelings and experiencing having feelings as a crisis. Sarah loves that Carrie rocked a very femme look at karaoke, braless in her sundress. Carrie made herself known to the DJ and Sarah loves that Carrie could be a fixture at this Tuesday karaoke night. Lowstakes advice: Find you a friend that's family. Make a move by moving. Make aggressive eye contact and then ask the object of your desire if they can smell your pussy as an opening move. Send us your voicenotes on instagram at whatiloveaboutmyselfpodcast.

Four armed men hijack a New York City subway car and demand a $1 million dollar ransom for the passengers - they are lead by Robert Shaw's Mr. Blue. Tasked with overhauling a university football team that was dismantled for breaking collegiate rules, coaches Wally Riggendorf (Robert Loggia) and Ed Gennero (Héctor Elizondo) pick unusual new players like junior professor Andre Krimm (Sinbad) and 30-something quarterback Paul Blake (Scott Bakula). As Paul courts professor Suzanne Carter (Harley Jane Kozak), the team struggles until the arrival of a female placekicker, who bolsters the squad as it gets ready to challenge its big rival. Jack pulls a Hail Mary from his childhood and brings us a favorite nostalgia film with his choice of "Necessary Roughness" (1991) for our #Football genre. Discussing the cast consisting of Hector Elizondo, Robert Loggia, Scott Bakula and Ms. Ireland we continue to gush. The film has heart and the feels to back it up, while still following the formulaic style of the typical football film. It's an underdog story that we can all get behind. We are the Reel Feels Podcast, every other Wednesday we'll bring you a new movie with all the feels you can handle. We'll laugh, we'll cry and possibly restrain the frustrations to curse the heavens.
