Hey there, fellow book lovers! This episode of Reading with Your Kids was jam-packed with some seriously awesome authors and their incredible books. Let me give you the scoop! First up, we had the delightful Lisa Maggiore, who's celebrating the release of the third book in her "Ava the Monster Slayer" graphic novel series. Ava and her friends are back for another adventure, this time taking on ghosts, monsters, and even a troop of gnomes during a sleepover at school. Lisa shared how her background as a social worker influenced the story, and how her talented cousin, Ross Felton, brought the vibrant illustrations to life. Next, we met the youngest author at the AuthorPalooza event, 15-year-old DeMarko Avant, and his mom, Robin. DeMarko wrote a super helpful book called "Teenage Boss" all about managing your money as a teen. He shared how his own struggles with spending led him to write this practical guide, and Robin told us about their nonprofit, Youth Money Management, which is working to get the book into the hands of kids across Connecticut. And last but not least, we chatted with Sarah Hovorka about her new picture book, "Camouflage Mom." Based on Sarah's own childhood experience when her mom went to boot camp, the story explores the emotional journey of a kid coping with a parent's military service. Sarah explained how the book can help families, both military and civilian, talk about the challenges of separation and staying connected. Whew, what an incredible lineup! If you're looking to inspire the young readers in your life, be sure to check out these awesome authors and their heartwarming, empowering books. Happy reading, everyone! Friend, today I'm gonna share with you 9 lessons learned about building physical, mental, & spiritual strength as a military mama. This came from the fitness tests and graded physical events I recently went through in our training course, to include both the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) as well as a 14 mile Ruck. I felt called to share this, especially to help those who are also on their postpartum journey like I am. As military women navigating pregnancy & postpartum, the emphasis on physical fitness in our profession can be a source of pride & empowerment, but also a source of stress & anxiety for us. Because the truth is, we have to put our bodies through a lot pretty quickly after having a baby to meet the timelines, return to the standards, & get back to everything we need to do. And many of us have high expectations of ourselves to perform well & lead by example. So if you're in the trenches of either postpartum recovery, or the rollercoaster of military life or mom life, and you're trying to make progress in your fitness or prepare for what's up ahead...if you're looking for some encouragement, this is for you. We're gonna talk about what physical, mental, emotional, & spiritual strength can look like in an integrated, practical way. Let's dive deep into how we can allow God to work through everything, big & small — even our physical fitness tests and the physical challenges of our everyday lives as mamas, & women who serve. Join me in my Strong + Resilient Postpartum Fitness Program (18 week+ Plan for Busy, Active Mamas in the military + beyond who want to get stronger, heal their core + pelvic floor + regain confidence in their bodies again after giving birth, and have an empowering postpartum experience where you & your family can truly thrive) PREGNANCY & POSTPARTUM FITNESS RESOURCES: Free Postpartum Fitness Guide: How to Return to Fitness Postpartum for Military Mamas + Beyond BOOK A 1:1 COACHING CALL Free Pregnancy Exercise Guide: How to Safely Exercise + Maintain Fitness Through Pregnancy RESOURCES FOR MORE BALANCE IN FAMILY & WORK-LIFE: Overcome the Overwhelm (FREE guide to help you balance work + mom life with less guilt + more peace, with God at the center) Renew Group Coaching Program + Community (my signature coaching experience for dream-chasing women who want to balance family + career with Christ at the center, overcome burnout & exhaustion while making the impact they're called to, pursue integrated health & be supported by a likeminded, growth-oriented community of women. In a deeply important conversation, this week we are chatting with Suzi Freeman, a suicide prevention specialist, working primarily with police and military mom's. Suzi helps moms to become knowledgable and aware of signs of depression and anxiety in their kids, that could lead to suicide ideation and occurence. I wanted to provide a trigger warning in these show notes that we discuss a wide range of topics in this conversation, including suicide, anxiety, and despression. Powerfully, Suzi is on a mission to provide education, tools, resources, support, and so much more for the families and the individuals in the armed services. The Founder of Badass Warrior Moms and the Suicide Prevention Project, as well as being cerftied and trained in Neurolinguistic Programming, Hypnotherapy, and EFT Tapping, Suzi is living her life “at cause”, looking to prevent problems and issues before they start. With 1 of her 5 children in the armed forces, and another as a police officer, Suzi began her journey when she started to realize the levels of depression and anxiety in the communities surrounding her sons in the military and police. Suzi didn't want to start this type of mission because she had to, she wanted to be proactive in helping others realize that suicide should not be considered as an option. And her purpose and mission are fueling every step of her journey, knowing that quitting this path isn't an option, because she can't quit on those who need her. It's a moving and informative conversation, and Suzi welcomes anyone who is listening and would like to chat further, to reach out - see her Community phone number below. Listen in for the following: Introduction to the SAD Reduction Method and some of Suzi's top tips for reducing stress and anxiety. When speaking with someone who is contemplating suicide, Suzi provides in-depth knowledge to her QPR method: Question, Persuade, Refer. If you are a military momma, Suzi speaks about how to “cut the cord” with your child in the military, and not dump your emotions onto them whenever you connect. If you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review, subscribe, and pass along to your friends! It really helps us in the #podsquad out! The sisters surprised their children at Hackett Middle School on Friday afternoon. Erica's son Christopher and Jessica's daughter Bree are both in the sixth grade. The principal at the school called them both out of their classrooms at the same time and once in the hallway, they saw their moms... and the tears of joy soon followed. Christopher says they've tried to keep in touch but nothing replaces hugging his mom in person. The family says they are planning a special family vacation to celebrate after a few days of R and R.

Mental stress caused by our job, family, friends, finances or faith can oftentimes cause anxiety which can be released in negative ways. Fear of the future or trying to push back the past can be overwhelming. If you have been looking for a low-cost nonmedicinal way in which to improve your outlook on life or release some of this stress blogging might just be the answer. Sometimes writing out your feelings, both positive and negative, can contribute a great deal to your mental health. Blogging is good for your mental health as it offers opportunities to people affected by mental health to take their thoughts to a wider audience. Think about it, we all have mental health and one in four of us will experience a mental health problem sometime in our lives, so if you are feeling down, anxious or not in control, sharing your feelings can help relieve stress by letting go of emotions which may have been bottled up for a long time, sometimes as far back as childhood. My special guest is Regina McDowell, blogger of got2bgina, a website on health, wellness and beauty.
