 After two months of inactivity, I am happy to present another new programme for NuDirections. The program under the name Rise Above aims to help people overcome the sadness and devastation caused by a world in conflict. Never underestimate the healing power of music. I have included some of my favourite tunes I regularly spin at Big Hands, the coolest bar in Manchester, as well as some discoveries like the talented Jon Lucien. I highly recommend listening to his song "Would You Believe in Me" - he may not be a current singer, but he is truly amazing. Good music is timeless and always worth discovering. Another discovery is the vibrant dancehall tune of More Justice and Truth by Virgin Island's reggae star Pressure Busspipe. Another novelty I found recently, is the great tune of Say Truth by Fred Fisher Atalobhor. Inside my DJ boxes, I get my most regular artist's music played in my sets. There you will find Manu Chao, Joe Bataan, Dreadzone, Mo-Horizons, Zulu 9.30, International Velvet and Planet Hemp. Of course, Hip hop artist and producer from Dallas Oneofus with the great track and theme of the programme. Last but not least, Jah is forever is beautiful melody of lovers Rock by Swish Reggae producer Elijah Solomon and and Jamaican singer Glen Washington. Arrancamos el programa con la sensación del año: El Madrileño. C. Tangana se corona rumbero mayor de la mano de los clásicos para facturar un disco que marcará su punto de inflexión. Explica que durante la pandemia hizo este y otro siguiendo su linea estilística habitual de música urbana molona. Prefirió arriesgar, salir de su zona de confort y lanzar primero El Madrileño. Visto lo visto, al final será el disco cuya repercusión le abrirá las puertas del continente americano. Ya se presagiaba su deriva con Un Veneno (2018). El factor determinante, como en el precedente inmediato de Rosalía, es el hecho diferencial con la aportación de una sonoridad distinguible, en este caso la rumba gitana a la catalana, o pop trufada de adornos trap, porque con el flamenco sólo se atrevió Rosalía, mucho más preparada vocalmente y psicológicamente para aguantar la envidia comparativa de los ortodoxos. La rumba tiene una estructura musical sencilla (a los 40 programas precedentes me remito) y no exige un nivel vocal prodigioso si sabes adornarla visualmente y tu presupuesto es de cinco cifras. Además nadie te tachará de usurpador en la escena rumbera; no somos tan petulantes ni envidiosas como los flamencólogos. Evidentemente Tangana no es el colmo de la alegría, pero sus composiciones suenan a clásico y encima se legitiman con la presencia de Kiko Veneno, Gipsy Kings, La Húngara o Niño de Elche (y le faltó Estopa). A partir de ahora tendremos que seguirle la pista. Volvamos a nuestro mundo.Achilitime tiene un amplio radar y también incluye novedades recientes de esta primavera. Dentro de un primer tramo rumbero más clásico tenemos también a Jack Chakataga transformando el hit de Bad Bunny y Rosalía en rumba La Noche de Anoche (nada que ver, por cierto con el bolerazo que cantara Olga Guillot). Kiki Maya nos ha sorprendido con tema nuevo ¡Ay que Pena! magníficamente arropado por Rubio de Pruna, Diego El Morao, Alba La Negra o Pedrito Dominguez. El nuevo disco de Landry El Rumbero ya circula desde enero; hoy seleccionamos su canción más escatológica, Caca. Le sigue otra novedad, desde Vilanova i la Geltrú llega Dumingu presentando su disco Ensèriu?, producido por Vidal Soler, del que hemos escogido su Nai o no nai, genial trabalenguas onomatopéyico. Otro inédito: El Paio de Sarrià feat. Pep Lladó es un simpático experimento de Enric Grau, trombonista de Dr. Calypso. Le sigue el superhit de Tangana que ya debes estar harto de oír, Ingobernable, con los Gipsy Kings. Y seguimos rumbeando, acelerados con Califato y lentitos con Ramses Gallego, El Coleta, al que se le vuelve a ver muy activo. Pasamos al tramo más modernista. La segunda parte del programa arranca con Canelita, una rumba retro futurista con tintes ochenteros y bombo pistero. Tras él, Queralt Lahoz que esta primavera se nos ha reactivado y aparece por triplicado en este programa con dos temas propios: Dame Doblones a lo flamenco trap y Tu Boca en plan downtempo souler, y otro acompañando a los andaluces Califato 3/4. Tras ella Moncho Chavea y sus compais gitanos le dan duro al flamencotón. Yo lo llamaría rumbatón que sería más correcto, pero en el submundo de la etiqueta mandan los genéricos de mayor espectro. En la misma onda pero con menos pirotecnia Manuel El Popeye con La Cebolla publicaban este rumbatón melancólico el pasado abril. En realidad todos los temas de este Achilitime aparecieron en redes entre marzo y abril de este año. El nivel, a pesar del nulo momento musical que vive el planeta, no deja de subir. Con Rosalía emigrada e inédita ultimamente, en este Achilitime las mujeres vuelven a imponer su ritmo. La primera, nuestra veterana Marinah (ex-Ojos de Brujo), rumbatonea de la mano de la rapera La Dame Blanche adelantando material de su nuevo disco. María Peláe lo borda de nuevo junto a Sandra Carrasco. Y cerramos el Achilitime de abril con una novedad sabrosa, elegante y optimista: la carismática Dry Martina y su Lo Mejor junto a Mo’Horizons. Nivelazo. El mantra “todo saldrá bien” parece que empieza a funcionar.
