Note 2: The SugarBeats remix of "Easy" is a bootleg that they distributed via their website once upon a time but I can seem to find the repository anymore. In lieu a link to their latest album has been provided. Note 3: Due to a dispute with his former record label currently the album "Heartbeats" can't be downloaded in full anywhere, it can however be listened to on Spotify, and you can still buy a CD from amazon, so thats something. Note 4: The SSX 3 soundtrack is wicked out of print, so good luck, maybe the Internet Archive can help you when it comes back. Note 4: Bandcamp links always provided when able. Beatport tracks can usually also be found on amazon mp3 at a lower price and the advantage of cloud backup, but at a fixed fidelity. Originally Aired 04-OCT-2024

This show is made possible by you! Help us meet our year-end goal to raise $25,000, the cost of producing an episode. Please make a year-end donation => https://LauraFlanders.org/donate Take Our Survey: Vote for your favorite LF Show episodes HEREDescription: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations 75 years ago this December, as was the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. But that same year also saw the institutionalization of apartheid in South Africa, and the Palestine War or Nakba which displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinian Arabs in the course of creating the state of Israel. What does it mean to commemorate this anniversary in a time of genocide and gross violation of human rights — particularly in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas? Until recently, Craig Mokhiber was the director in the New York Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), where he had served since 1992. A specialist in international human rights law, policy, and methodology, he worked through genocides against Tutsis in Rwanda, Muslims in Bosnia, Yazidis in Iraq, and Rohingya in Myanmar. In his resignation letter, sent October 28th this year, he wrote, “Once again, we are seeing a genocide unfolding before our eyes, and the organization that we serve appears powerless to stop it.” Both Israel and Hamas have now been accused of committing gross violations of human rights in their current conflict, including acts of genocide. But what exactly is genocide? And what is the responsibility of the world to stop it? In this timely episode, Laura and Mokhiber explore the promise of the Universal Declaration and ask how we can honor this historic achievement while also acknowledging the hypocrisies of 1948 — and now. What can be learned from the South African experience that might offer a way forward for peace with justice for Israelis and Palestinians? All that and a commentary from Laura on what it takes for us to recognize one another's humanity.“Israel is responsible for its own crimes. That responsibility does not extend to Jewish people around the world and certainly not to those who are standing up to say that this is not in their name.” - Craig Mokhiber“We want to see justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators, but we want it to be done peacefully. And what are the peaceful means? We have legal action, we have political action, we have mass mobilizations, we have divestments, we have boycotts.” - Craig MokhiberGuest: Craig Mokhiber: Human Rights Lawyer, Former Senior United Nations Official Full Episode Notes are located HERE. FK5's Steve Raskin and many of his funk-loving friends from around the world have brought us some of the highest-grade mixtapes on planet Earth over the years and as outstanding as they all are, along comes Ireland's king of funk Doe-ran with volume 75 and contender for best mix of the series, period!* *For the last 10 years, Doe-ran has been serving up the best and freshest funk and breaks tunes on his infamous B-Sides & Bootlegs radio show on RapTz Radio. Every week he takes to the airwaves at 8pm (GMT) to present his finds of the week and if you've ever caught one of his shows live or one that has been uploaded to his Soundcloud or Mixcloud pages, you'll already know he's a superstar scourer of the highest order!* *Taking a wee timeout from brand new bangers, Doe-ran has decided to go back to the old skool with his FTW mixtape and re-visit his classic ghetto funk folders. It's been a while since I've headed that far back with music myself and after a listen, I'm stoked to report that he's gone and picked everyone's favourite ghetto funk bangers! This week, we are featuring DJ Mes of Guesthouse Records with a fun in the sun daytime house mix. Enjoy! -- We have a few live events coming up featuring your favorite Space Cowboys and more! First up, we have Fort Knox Five for our Halloween Hoedown on Oct 30th. www.eventbrite.com/e/haunted-hoedo…ts-172361085647 And then our legendary New Year's Day part, Breakfast of Champions, returns 1/1/22! www.eventbrite.com/e/its-a-new-day…ts-176799220227 Join us! --- About DJ Mes: DJ Mes | Guesthouse Music | Oakland, CA Bay-Area bred DJ Mes (Jason Sutton) rarely slows his groove. Since the 2004 inception of his Oakland-based label, Guesthouse Music, Mes has produced a prolific catalogue of bass-heavy tracks that have scorched dance floors amid the ebb and flow of electronic music. As a DJ, his sets have inspired; as a producer, his montage of disco-dredged beats meld bump with rhythm and bass to create hot buzz in front of and beyond the speakers. In 2011, Traxsource honored Mes with the top spot on a list of 100 best house tracks of 2011 following the release of the bumpy Chicago-sound behind "Fools Gold" (Cajual Recordings). Mes· career dates back to the mid-1990s, when the future producer took early influence from the likes of DJ Dan (Funky Tech no Tribe) and Tony Hewitt (Tango Recordings). Some two decades later, it would be DJ Dan who would join the talent ranks of Guesthouse Music, Mes' genre-defying imprint that earned him notoriety beyond numerous festival appearances, club residencies, and as co-founder of Daddy's Records (1996). Unlike previous endeavors, Guesthouse bloomed as a personal and creative project inspired by the underground house community that embraced the sound in the U.S. and overseas. While Mes continued releasing tracks on acclaimed labels such as Casual, Relief, Glasgow Underground and Salted, it is his own Guesthouse Music that set the pace, approaching 600 releases-including 50 vinyl releases-since its inception. Mes' ear for talent led to the unveiling of some of the most successful names in underground house, including breakout artists of 2011, J Paul Getto, who scaled the charts of Traxsource with "Need More Music" and "Paris Fried Chicken" Boundary-bending producers, such as Gramphonedzie, and classic acts, such as Cosy Creatures and The Sound Republic, exploded onto the scene under Mes· own A&R moxie. Even while he introduced new DJs and producers to audiences, he continued creating his own body of boompty sounds. While Mes looks ahead for talent, he creatively nods to sounds that inspired him to slide behind the decks more than 16 years ago. In 2011, Mes followed up his seminal "Fools Gold" release (Cajual Recordings) with a second EP, "Town Business." "Lonley Nights," a rework of Isaac Hayes classic "I Can't Turn Around," climbed the underground charts alongside a remix of The Magi classic, "C'mon Clap Your Hands." Even while maintaining a regular touring schedule throughout the U.S. and Europe, Mes continues partnering with the some of the scene's most lauded producers, such as DJ Sneak and his own greatest influence, DJ Dan. In December 2011, Mes and Guesthouse created another piece of house music history by releasing their 100th track, "3000" (J Paul Getto). For Mes, it marks the beginning of another phase of underground house evolution. Adds Mes: "I'm always working to sign new or undiscovered music and talent to the label, and maybe even throw a curve ball to startle people with a new, unexpected style or sound. It's what it's all about." Bass. Beats. Funk. That's what Mes is all about! Meleena, a.k.a. Dj Humblelianess, has lived a very eventful life. We started with her experience with modeling which took her to both coast of the US. As in a adult in DC started to really get into music which she had an adept intrigue and curation ability since a child. This propelled her to working for a club there behind the scenes, seeing the likes of Fort Knox Five. Familial ties brought her back to Tucson and then Mexico. Eventually she got the confidence to become a full fledged DJ now a resident member in El Tambo. Hope you all enjoy!! I've got some cracking tunes for you this week from some brilliant artists including a bunch of Fort Knox Five classics in honour of the great Jon H, who sadly passed on a few days ago.
The Space Cowboys have Mancub to thank for bringing this week's talented guest, Jayclue (a.k.a. Jason Brown) of http://soundcloud.com/qdup-foundation, to The RIPEcast. Mancub and Jayclue met several months ago while sharing the bill at Mighty and shortly thereafter Jayclue graciously agreed to do this exclusive mix of signature Qdup funky breaks for the show. Many thanks to Jayclue and Qdup Foundation from the Cowboys for this week's funky and fabulous RIPEcast. Enjoy Boys and Girls! A little more background on this week's guest..... America's Funky Breaks production trio, Qdup Foundation, have made their mark with top selling releases on Bombstrikes, Goodgroove, and their own Qdup Records labels. Over the past few years the boys have set forth an assault of ass shaking remixes which have been found rocking dance floors worldwide by some of the worlds most heavyweight DJ's. Having remixed the likes of Fort Knox Five, DJ Love, Nappy Riddem, Basement Freaks, Danny Massure, Thunderball, Audit and Normski, DJ Love and Ursula1000 they have secured themselves a spot as one of the most in demand artists for remixing friends of the funk. Qdup's collective is made up of Jason Brown AKA Jayclue, Allen McDaniel AKA Amac, and Rex Holloway AKA The Disco Bastard. The 3 DJ / Producers came together after collaborating with each other from different sides of the US coast. Jason and Allen were long time friends having met up during the late 90's in the DC Metro area where both had mutual interests and had started djing around the areas budding electronic music scene. Years later with Jayclue having re-located to Los Angeles, he started collaborating in the studio on projects with Rex as well as working on projects across the country with Allen. It was not long before the boys decided to join efforts and started making plans get the Qdup label off the ground. Qdup's DJ sets showcase the same range of funky tunes and tempos that have influenced them over the years. Often known to move seamlessly mashing up hip-hop to mid-tempo funk and soul, breaks, dancehall, reggae, disco, house and even funky DnB. Qdup's DJ sets showcase this wide range of party rocking tunes mashing all their influences into a Ghetto Funk Gumbo with just the right seasoning! It's lining up to be exciting times for the crew that makes up Qdup.
