Future Hall of Fame wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald said he always expected to be coached. Just not by a Wall Street banker. So when Frank Bisignanoโthen a senior JPMorgan Chase & Co. executive and now CEO of Fiservโpushed a twentysomething Fitzgerald to think about life beyond the National Football League, it changed his trajectory. That led to a series of internships between football seasons, touching on everything from venture capital to real estate and mezzanine financing. Fitzgerald played football for more than a decade after his run-in with Bisignano, spending his entire pro career with the Arizona Cardinals. But thanks in part to that first internship (at JPMorgan), he's since invested in more than 160 companies, ranging from tech firms to an Indian cricket team. One of his breakthrough business moments came in 2020, when he joined the board of Dick's Sporting Goods Inc., a publicly traded retailer that now has a market capitalization of about $16 billion. Arguably among Fitzgerald's most interesting deals is one tied to his oldest passion: chess. He started playing as a kid, an effort by his parents to focus a restless young mind. His public affinity for the game led to a meeting with Danny Rensch, the โchief chess officerโ of Chess.com. Fitzgerald invested in the company and played in a celebrity tournament. He even allowed Chess.com to create a bot trained on his previous matches. The Monologues Podcast invites producers to mix an hour of their own productions. Coming soon: M75 - Keita Sano. Follow our record label on Bandcamp. Rotterdam's Danou P has been one of our favourite producers this year, releasing a slew of standout tracks both solo and alongside his studio partner, Chicago star Jamie 3:26. With a knack for exquisite melody and infectious grooves, his music is imbued with warmth and a discernible human touch. If he keeps going like this he'll go far. This mix features some exclusive unreleased bizness, various jazzy workouts and his piano house stomper โThe Good Old Days (Are Now)'โone of our favourites of 2023. *How would you describe your sound?* I was trained as a keyboardist and later started producing. Therefore I tend to play and record a lot myself instead of relying on samples. I love โ90s Deep House and I'm a sucker for those old school sounds. I think you can describe my sound best as Deep House influenced by the golden era of the genre, but made by a musician/keyboardist with a modern touch. Having said that I love to go down different roads like more Disco, Italo and electro sounding stuff. *What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*ย I've always been inspired by old Funk, Boogie and Disco. There is something about the soul in it and the synthesizer sounds that will always resonate with me. As far as House goes I really like Kerri and โ90s Deep House artists alike. Newer artists that I really admire and draw inspiration from are: Makez, Clive From Accounts, Felipe Gordon, Chaos In The CBD, COEO, I can keep going hahaha. *Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?* I had great fun doing this mix. I don't usually play that many of my own tracks in a set and to my surprise it was actually really easy to get to 60 minutes. It was really cool to find out that some tracks fit really well together. This is something I'm definitely going to remember and use when I'm playing in the future! I tried to show very different sides of me as an artist in this mix. I played a couple of tracks from me and Jamie 3:26 including new remixes we've done, some older tracks that will be released in the near future and some original tracks that are out already. I also played an edit of โStreet Player/ that I made recently. I just made that one for myself as a straight up edit and tool on the dancefloorl. I think a lot of people don't get to that part of the song when they play it and they tend to play the most well known parts as somewhat of a crowdpleaser. But this last part is where it's at for me! It's a great groove and it just keeps building and going.ย Tracklist: 1. Danou P & Kems Kriol - Jazz Dummy (3:26 Records) 2. Danou P - So Fruit (3:26 Records) 3. Jamie 3:26 & Danou P - Roy Layers (Shake Records) 4. Radio Slave - Wild Life (Jamie 3:26 & Danou P 'Discotek' Remix) (Rekids) 5. Danou P - Serenity Now (Unreleased) 6. Danou P - Tutti To The Frutti (Unreleased) 7. Danou P - The Good Old Days (Are Now) (GLXY Recs.) 8. Danou P - What We Talking' Bout (Unreleased) 9. Danou P - I Rumble U Crumble (Unreleased) 10. Chicago - Street Player (Danou P What's The Groove Edit) 11. Steven Bamidele - Throw It All Away (Jamie 3:26 & Danou P Remix) (To be released on Tru Thoughts)

Our guest on 4th Street, Rivals staff writer and podcaster Trevor Ritchie, will join us to talk about the football season. We have a brief debate on the prediction of Southern Miss upcoming matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide. And of course, we give our flowers to current and alumni athletes who received honors during the week, including our 4th Street Player of the Week Sorry for the late post.

โBoy, is Vaughn Meader fucked.โ - Lenny Bruce, Nov. 22, 1963 "When you're down, it's a long way up. When you're up, it's a long way down. It's all the same thing. No new tale to tell." - Love and Rocketsย ย REO Speedwagon - Ridin' The Storm Out (studio version) (1973) I played this song over and over in my High School cool-kids band Second Age, having never heard this studio version, sung by not Kevin Cronin. Not nearly as exciting.ย Rufus - Read All About It (1971) On this show, I play songs by Rufus AND The American Breed, whose big hit was "Bend Me, Shape Me".ย They had three top-40 songs in total. Al Ciner, Kevin Murphy, and Lee Graziano went on to form Rufus. Chaka Kahn (Yvette Marie Stevens) joined in 1972, age 18, and the rest is history. I love Chaka Kahn almost as much as I love Gladys Knight. All music we heard in the '80s and '90s came (usually) from people who had lived through great hardship, for long years, and no promised road to success.ย Bay City Rollers - Jenny (1972) Not a bad group, even though they were produced by that unctuous Jonathan King (who gave the world Genesis (good) and the "Ooohgachaca" version of "Hooked on a Feeling" (bad)), they were struggling with their sound, but I don't think it would be fair to label them a 'boy band' at this point. That would come in a couple of years.ย Bay City Rollers - Hey C.B. (1973)ย Wings - Beware My Love (demo) (1976) Led Zeppelin's John Bonham on drums. The studio version featured the somewhat less swingy Joe English, who went on to play with the band Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead formed, Kingfish, but not WITH Bob Weir. Kingfish signed to Jet Records for their 1978 album Trident. Since they were on Jet, it makes sense that they opened for ELO on their Out Of The Blue tour (with the spaceship and pre-recorded backing) which I attended. September 1978. I asked a guy who studies all things GD but even HE doesn't know for sure who the drummer for that tour was.ย The Crucibles - Beware Of Low-Flying Birds (1966) 5-pc band from Madison, Wisconsin, later "known" as Kiriae Crucible. Can you imagine getting to record your own song in a real recording studio, and when the things arrive, the title is changed because of a shortage of space/ink on the label? TRUE STORY! Paul McCartney - Dress Me Up As a Robber (demo sections) (1982)ย Wings - Going To New Orleans (My Carnival) (demo) (1975)ย Bay City Rollers โ Saturday Night (original version) (1973) Their big breakthrough hit in the US was recorded previously with their first lead singer Nobby Clark, who left the band to pursue a solo career. The band re-recorded a slightly less Scottish version with their new singer Les McKeown, and, of course, hit it huge. Poor Nobby recorded a couple of singles and did some theater, but ended up ruing his decision for the rest of his drug-addled life. How awful. Can you imagine?ย Would you rather be an ex-lead singer whose band blew up right after you left, or would you rather be in that band during their heyday and watch it slowly slip back into the morass of trivia land?ย Paul McCartney - Stop, You Donโt Know Where She Came From (demo) (1980)ย Bay City Rollers - Manana (1972)ย The American Breed - When Iโm With You (1970)ย Paul McCartney - It's Not On (Pipes of Peace Bonus Track) (1983) Paul McCartney - Mr. H Atom/You Know I'll Get You Baby (McCartney II Bonus Track) (1980)ย Bay City Rollers - We Can Make Music (1972)ย Rufus - Fire One Fire Two Fire Three (1971) The origins of Rufus go back to 1962 Cicero, Illinois, when they formed Gary & The Knight Lites. Rufus - Follow The Lamb (1971) One of the later members of Rufus was David (Hawk) Wolinski, who co-wrote or solely wrote their songs "Hollywood", "Street Player" (later recorded by co-writer Danny Seraphine's band Chicago), "Everlasting Love",ย "Do You Love What You Feel", and the 1983 hitย "Ain't Nobody," which reached #1 on the US Billboard R&B chart. Rufus - Brand New Day (1971) From the movie "The Landlord". Written by Al Kooper.ย Rufus - Maybe Your Baby (1972) Written by Stevie, who recorded it on his Talking Book album. I like this version a little more. Tighter.ย Paul McCartney - Soily (1971) Someone on Quora said: Soily is a fictional character created by McCartney, the daughter of Bruce and Yvonne McMouse. The McMouse family lives under the stage where Wings perform in an hour-long cartoon produced by Sir Paul but later shelved. Very few people have seen the film. Presumably, if heard in the animation, the songโs lyrics would make sense in context. But apparently, Paul doesnโt like the movie, and no one who has seen it is clamoring for its release, so it may be left to rot and be lost to history aside from this song and some character sketches sold at auction a few years ago. I said: A line from the song: "The cat in satin trousers says it's oily..." explains....something... Wings - Silly Love Songs (demo) (1976) Suburban 9 to 5 - Captain Kangaroo (1968) Pretty safe to say you haven't heard of this band, but the guitarist is Gary Richrath, later of REO Speedwagon.ย Suburban 9 to 5 - Sunshine Becomes You (1968)ย The American Breed - Powder (1968) So this is a remnant of the Sgt. Pepper era, where every band member was now asked to (nay, TOLD to) assert their individual personality, like The Monkees, this album art sort of aping Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. more or less. One thing both albums also have in common: They were both released on the descent, although they could not have known it at the time.ย The American Breed - Pumpkin (1968) The American Breed - Scarlet (1968) The American Breed -Green (1968) The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly - Gypsy Lover (1970) You can read all about the tragic tale of Vaughn Meader all over the web. But what is NOT widely known is that Vaughn Meader released a 1972 album called "The Second Coming" (two cuts are featured here) where he plays the part of Jesus Christ returned to Earth amid the hippy culture that birthed Jesus Christ Superstar (which was produced by Tom O'Horgan, who produced Hair, Lenny (which I own and will feature soon), and was credited with "stage production conceived and adapted by" for the 1978 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band film. So...that career was interesting.) to virtually no sales, no radio play, etc....it was as if he, himself, was the guy that put the rifle in Clay Sha....er......Lee Harvey Oswald's hands. No one wanted to know. He made a sort of comeback, appearing in the film Linda Lovelace For President in 1975.ย Vaughn Meader - The Second Coming (Part 1) (1972) Vaughn Meader - The Second Coming (Part 2) (1972) Barry McGuire - Secret Saucer Man (1968) Three years from "Eve Of Destruction". I LOVE this song.ย Bay City Rollers - Alright (1971)ย Clarence Carter - Light My Fire (1969) With Duane Allman of The Allman Joys on guitar.ย Frank Zappa - Public Service Announcement (1968)ย Lena Zavaroni - Jump Down Jimmy (1980) You know her story. Don't you? She suffered from the same affliction as Karen Carpenter.ย Suburban 9 to 5 - Walk Away (1968)ย Martin & Finley - Long Life And Success To The Farmer (1972) Milkwood - Makeshift Pawn (1972) Would evolve into The Cars.ย Nazz - Wonder Who's Loving Her Now (1967) The Vapors - Prisoners (1979) The Quick - Ain't Nothin' Gonna Stop Me (1969)ย

Pioneering jazz-rock drummer and composer Danny Seraphine is a founding member of Chicago. Worldwide the iconic group has sold over 122 million albums, and, just domestically, earned 22 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums. In 1990, after 23 years in the group, Seraphine and Chicago had a jarring parting of ways, and he left music behind for 15 years. But a call to play a benefit show for a fellow drummer pulled him out of seclusion and sparked a creative rebirth. ย Today, Seraphine looks forward with Sacred Ground (Street Sense), the sophomore record from his jazz-rock powerhouse group CTAโoften described as โChicago on steroidsโโand he makes peace with his past with the refreshingly candid memoir Street Player: My Chicago Story (Wiley). ย Seraphine is critically acclaimed as an instrumentalist and a composer. Rolling Stone Magazine recently ranked him as one of the top 100 drummers of all time. When he was coming up on the music scene, legendary jazz drummer Buddy Rich called Seraphine his favorite young drummer. Recently he was awarded Cape Breton Drum Festival's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, an honor he also received from the Montreal Drum Festival. He's an endorsee of esteemed drum companies such as DW drums, Remo drumheads, Zildjian cymbals and drumsticks. He also has released a well-regarded instruction DVD titled The Art of Jazz Rock Drumming, distributed through Drum Channel. As a songwriter, Seraphine co-wrote the Chicago Top 40 hits โLowdownโ and โNo Tell Lover,โ as well as core Chicago tunes like โLittle One,โ โTake Me Back to Chicago,โ โShow Me the Way,โ โBirthday Boy,โ and the irresistibly funky โStreet Player,โ later sampled by rapper Pitbull for the hit โI Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho).โ

Antoinette Roberson - The Lover That You Are (Hex Hector & Soul Solution Club Mix) If you ever questioned the emotional depth house music could plumb, look no further. "The Lover That You Are" deftly merges the ethereal voice of Antoinette Roberson with Hex Hector and Soul Solution's heart-pounding remix. Hex Hector, a Grammy Award-winning remixer, was at his zenith during this period, creating remixes that almost outshined the originals. Hannah Jones - No One Can Love You More Than Me (Stonebridge Mix) Stonebridge, an acclaimed DJ, adds his Midas touch to Hannah Jones' "No One Can Love You More Than Me." This remix isn't just a tune; it's a melodic tapestry that pushed the boundaries of how house music could sound. If you were in a club when this dropped, it was like a collective spiritual experience, a cathartic release on the dancefloor. The Bucketheads - The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind) With a sonic nod to Chicago house, The Bucketheads released "The Bomb!" This track didn't just dominate the club scene; it seeped into mainstream consciousness. Interestingly, the track samples "Street Player" by Chicago, a band whose roots trace back to rock and jazz fusion. Aretha Franklin - A Deeper Love (C + C Music Factory Mix) If any song could serve as a sonic representation of empowerment, it would be Aretha Franklin's "A Deeper Love." When you pair the Queen of Soul with the production prowess of C + C Music Factory, you get a track that goes beyond a simple club bangerโit's an anthem for the ages. Judy Cheeks - As Long As You're Good To Me (Love To Infinity's Classic Paradise Club Mix) By 1995, Judy Cheeks was already a staple in the house scene. But when Love To Infinity got their hands on "As Long As You're Good To Me," the song transformed into an epic narrative of love and longing, the kind that would leave the club crowd spellbound as the night wore on. So why does this genre of 90s House Music Classics continue to captivate us? Perhaps it's the way these tracks encapsulate a period of ingenuity and emotional depth, intertwining with the broader tapestry of '90s cul...
