NFP is back! Here we have a special interview with Norwegian TV presenter Jon Hartvig Børrestad. We hear from a man at the heart of the Eliteserien action in his role for TV2 as he opens up to some very interesting insights to Steve. How has Norwegian football evolved in recent years and what sort of level is the Eliteserien at now? We talk about the season so far, who has been surprising and who will go on to win the gold medal? Euro 2024 is starting soon but Norway won't be present. What has been going wrong with the Norwegian national team and is there a solution? Could we be on the verge of a golden generation for players, manager and clubs in Norway as the coefficient has skyrocketed in recent years! We thank Jon for his time and for a fantastic interview.
In the UK we have Greg James, in Norway they have Martin Holmen! Martin and I met in Tanzania and the best way for those of you that know me to describe Martin is this, we were told we were on the same energy level and in truth I think he might even top me! An inspiring story of a kid from Norway becoming a nationally known TV and radio personality who had to run after this podcast to finish his script to introduce the world renowned Oslo Philharmonic! On top of this Martin is the national chair for Norwegian 4H hence our meeting in Tanzania at the global summit! I don't want to ruin a really important part of this podcast so please listen for the full story but Martin goes quite in depth about the struggles and fears he had heading to a country that is very unaccepting of the LGBTQI+ community as a gay man! Great episode with every emotion! Enjoy!
In this rather exclusive episode, Alex, Ethan, & David take a look at an as yet unreleased film called 'Voice', directed by Norwegian director Ana Hjort Guttu. A documentary maker from Norwegian TV meets resistance when she contacts a group of filmmaking activists to tell a story that is not her own. 'Voice' is a fascinating look at documentary ethics which gives us a springboard to talk about the issues we might need to consider when the subjects of our non-fiction films are not from our own neurotype. Here's the IMDB entry: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27035082/ We soon move to talking about some of the best and worst offerings of recent documentaries about autism, including the BBC's 'Paddy and Christine McGuinness: Our Family and Autism' and 'Christine McGuinness: Unmasking my Autism'. We also look at 'Chris Packham: Inside Our Minds', 'I Am Greta', and 'I Think We're Alone Now', as well as Alex's own work 'Drawing on Autism'. We also give a quick shout out to a wonderful radical left comedy podcast Mandatory Redistribution Party, as hosted by neurodivergent hosts Jack Evans and Sean Morley. You can find Mandos here: https://mandatoryredistributionparty.podbean.com/ Thank you for listening!
In 1959, twenty-year-old Doug Warne and Ron Olsen agreed to produce the Scandinavian Hour, in order to keep this cherished radio program going. Olsen chose the music and Doug handled the guest list and sold the advertising. Thus began this remarkable story lasting for 48 years, and when Olsen passed away in 2008, Warne continued on himself. But in 2017, he solicited additional cohosts to share responsibility for the program. No one would be paid, and to remain a co-host, you had to demonstrate you could sell commercials to area businesses. Yours truly, Eric Stavney, was a co-host for a couple years, and eventually Warne sought to retire after the program suffered through the dark years of COVID, when businesses withdrew their ads. Now, in July 2023, the program continues with renewed vigor every weekend (as it has for the last 64 years) with host Seth Tufteland and Doug Warne as "co-host emeritus". Tune in to hear this remarkable journey of the Scandinavian radio show in Seattle. Continue listening after the closing song to hear bonus content! God lytting!--------------------Today Per and Henrik talk about comedy. There are several reasons for this. One is because it is the Sami people's national day and they are known for their special humor. The others and the main reason behind the choice is because it´s a listener's birthday. Per gives you the sketch Norsk Supperåd from 1976 with the comedy duo Wesensteen which consisted of Rolf Helge Wesenlund (1936-2013) and Harald Heide-Steen jr. (1939-2008) and a performance from Båtehusrevyen in Fredrikstad from 2011 with Vivi Haug (1936-2014). In addition to this, Henrik brings a number of performances from Jeffery Dunham and Erik Andre Mogen Stenersen. All of these are from the 2000s and 2010s. He also brings with him an auditive performance based on a well-known Norwegian TV program. The roles are played by Halvor Johansson, Olav Svarstad Haugland, and Henrik Overaa Bjørnson. Thank you for joining me for this episode of Speaking Tongues- the podcast in conversation with multilinguals. My guest today is Sarah, joining me from London to talk about the Danish language. This is the first time I’ve featured Danish on the show and I’m really excited to have had this opportunity to learn a bit about it from Sarah’s perspective. In this episode, Sarah tells us about growing up in a house with Danish speaking parents and how she ended up learning Danish abroad while studying in Denmark. We talk about similarities between the Danish language and culture and other countries in the region. She gives us some insight into what it can be like for someone looking at Danish culture as an outsider. And because Sarah lives in London and I live in New York City, we had a chance to talk about our respective cities and how cultures from all over the world are expressed around town. Listen to hear the one brilliant way in which Sarah has been able to connect with some of the multi cultural communities that flourish in her neighborhood. Big thank you to Sarah for having this conversation with me, for sharing your story and for teaching us all a little bit about the Danish language and culture. Perseverance & The Theory of Manhood! With special guest: Eric Williams In my opinion, Eric Williams story is one of perseverance and victory in spite of seemingly insurmountable odds. Among many other things, In spite of being severely dyslexic in a world that doesn’t understand dyslexia, he became an accomplished author. He has met the challenges of raising a severely autistic son. As an American he was able to battle and win over the powers that be in the Country of Norway, to create and deliver one of that countries most popular tv shows ever, Alt For Norge! No small feat. One big nugget Eric gives us in this episode is his theory of manhood…I hope you listen to it, because he nails it! I don’t want to give it all away, but it has to do with being alone and afraid. His novel The Gift of No-Water is available on Amazon.com and this summer his new book Copperman will be out as an Audiobook. besides being an author Eric Williams is a husband and father of two, an avid fisherman, woodworker and artist. He is the co-creator of the award winning Norwegian TV show Alt For Norge. He currently lives and works in Oslo Norway.
