Canadian-born Jon Mikl Thor began his career in the early ‘70s as a champion body builder competing against the world’s strongest men and winning numerous awards along the way. But his love for heavy metal music compelled him to retire from body building and develop his skills as a musician and performer. Taking the mononym THOR, he quickly gained a devout following in the burgeoning metal scene thanks in part to elaborate and provocative live shows, which frequently featured Jon performing amazing feats of strength - bending steel bars with his teeth and exploding water bottles with his lungs! A performance on the Merv Griffin Show led to a record deal with RCA in late 1976 and the release of his debut Keep The Dogs Away. But it wasn’t until THOR’s follow-up album,1985’s Only The Strong, that he really began to flex his muscles.Thanks to fist-pumping anthems like “Thunder On The Tundra”and the powerful title track, Only The Strong became a landmark release and continues to be heralded as one of the finest metal albums of the ‘80s. As the music scene began to change in the decades that followed, THOR continued to be a champion for true metal, releasing numerous well-received studio and live albums. Then,in 2015, THOR teamed with indie giant Cleopatra Records for a new album, Metal Avenger, which featured special guest performances from many of THOR’s admirers including Henry Rollins, Fast Eddie Clarke of Motörhead, Cheetah Chrome of Dead Boys, Jay Jay French of Twisted Sister and more. A feature-length documentary film, “I Am Thor,” was released in 2016 followed by more studio albums that put THOR in collaboration with some fellow metal deities like W.A.S.P.'s Chris Holmes, Raven vocalist John Gallagher, Soilwork singer Björn Strid, Danko Jones, Anthrax's Neil Turbin, Ross “The Boss” Friedman and others! And yet at the same time, he continues to be one of the most important voices in Washington on all matters involving American foreign policy and national security. Senator Cotton also recently penned a new book, called Only The Strong. He returns to the podcast to discuss issues ranging from Iran and Russia/Ukraine to China and a proposed ban of TikTok. Senator Cotton represents Arkansas in the Senate. He currently serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee -- where he is the Ranking Member for the Subcommittee on Criminal Justice and Counterterrorism; he sits on the Intelligence Committee, and the Armed Services Committee. He is a graduate of Harvard, and Harvard Law School. Es ist Ende Mai und das bedeutet seit vier Jahren, dass im Gemischtwarenladen eures Vertrauens wieder ordentlich die Action abgeht und so auch dieses Mal in unserer sechsten Episode zu den Actionstars der 80's und 90's. Nachdem wir mit Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Cynthia Rothrock und Steven Seagal einige Actionstars und auch zwei Ninja Filmserien der Cannon Group sowie den Insidertipp "Miami Connection" (1987) im Detail besprochen und zudem auch noch "Tödliche Weihnachten" (1996) mit euch geschaut haben, stürzen wir uns nun, wie schon angekündigt, auf vier vereinzelte Filme aus den 90ern. "Auf die harte Tour" (1991), "Der Unbesiegbare - Best Of The Best" (1993), "Only The Strong" (1993) und "Die Vergeltung" (1994) stehen somit auf dem Action-Menü. Die ersten drei davon hat unser heutiges Geburtstagskind als kleiner Bub mit seinem Onkel während den alten VHS Zeiten geschaut und für diese Folge nochmal neuentdeckt und der vierte Film macht endlich das wahr, was in den letzten Folgen neben Steven Seagal immer wieder angedroht wurde. Wir besprechen einen Billy Blanks Film und was für einen... uiuiuiui!Neben all dem Fratzengeballer in den vier Filmen gibt es zur Feier des Tages selbstverständlich auch ein besonderes Musikprogramm hier zu hören und das kommt von unseren Partygästen Spiritbox, Crisix, Get The Shot, Repentance, Dream Troll, Unleash The Archers und Vince DiCola.Das alles erwartet euch in den knapp viereinhalb Stunden unserer 190. On this weeks episode I sit down with Only The Strong, a pop punk/easycore band from Calgary, Canada. We first start out talking about how the band formed and their journey to this line up. Then we jump into their debut EP "Fractured", which is a solid EP. With their sound and how they make the endings so grand it feels almost as if you are listening to a full length. We also talk about deciding to do an acoustic version of "Vacant". To round out the episode we talk about some great stories from their time in music. Tom selects this week's topic of discussion with a movie from his childhood, 1993's Only The Strong starring none other than Mark Dacascos.  We find out that capoeira is a pretty cool thing to watch, or at least we hear Tom defend this movie due to his bias growing up with it.
