In his first month in office, Donald Trump has broken international agreements with allies, ended all foreign aid, voted with America's enemies in the UN, posted a plan to turn Gaza into a Trump casino and resort, purged the Pentagon of military commanders, appointed podcasters and conspiracy theorists to his cabinet, and threatened to invade or annex Canada, Greenland, and Panama. David French and Skye Jethani discuss various theories to explain Trump's approach to governing, and find one model that makes a lot of sense in an article by Jonathan Rouch. Then they contrast it with what the Founders said was necessary for the republic to survive—virtue. We are all born, become toddlers, teenagers, adults, mid-aged, late middle aged, and eventually die. Do company's follow this same pattern? If so, can we use that pattern to better predict what they will do and compare that to what they should do at different stages of their life cycles? My guest for this episode is Aswath Damodaran. Aswath is a Professor of Finance at the Stern School of Business at New York University (Kerschner Family Chair in Finance Education). Aswath is a super star professor, considered both in and out of academia as the ‘Dean of Valuation', and one of the best teachers I have ever had the privilege of working with together. We have been lucky to have him teaching on the TRIUM EMBA for the last 23 years! In this episode we discuss his latest book, The Corporate Life Cycle: Business, investment, and Management Implications. The work is an attempt to provide a unified theory of all of finance (with a bit of strategy, management and leadership). With clear, compelling and concise writing, Aswath views all of corporate finance, valuation, investment philosophy and management/leadership through the construct of the birth, aging and dying of firms. The scope and scale is vast, and in a less gifted writer, it would risk being reductionist and overly simplistic – the opposite of what we have here. I wish I would have read this book 20 years ago because it would have saved me a lot of time and effort! In this conversation we cover the basics of the corporate life cycle and some of its implications. We get into a lively discussion about whether companies should strive to be ‘sustainable', explore the leadership characteristic needed at different stages of a company's life cycle, and outline the reasons why renewal and rebirth for company's near the end of their life cycle is so difficult. It is conversations with the likes of Aswath which make me feel so lucky to do what I do! It's All Light : Gloria Prema is an author, educator and therapist. Her publication of 'It's All Light - the Morphic Resonance of Light: a Unified Theory' in 2009 and recently the condensed Kindle version 'How to be spiritual - and understand quantum physics at the same time' have simplified and unified, not only the laws of physics, but have also unified these with spirituality. She has truly come up with the Grand Unified Theory. She has been a therapist for over 20 years in natural healing and, in recent years, in Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). She began her formal scientific studies while raising her children, going on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the UK's Open University. The continuous study of science, particularly quantum theory, since 1991, and the continuous study and practice of spiritual experiences, which began occurring around the same time, eventually led to the unified theory, presented in 'It's All Light', being born. For the 17 years it took to write the book she had one foot in both camps, as it were. She is an avid student of esoteric philosophy, and believes that the split between science and spirituality is false and that by the use of simple physics, presented in layman's terms, so-called spiritual phenomena, such as healing effects, including distant healing, telepathy, near-death experiences, clairvoyance and many others can be explained She believes it is time now for these two diverse fields (science and spirituality) to come together for the betterment of all. It would not mean going back to pre-enlightenment days, which some scientists fear. We have evolved way beyond that and can now bring together the best of both fields. Both 'It's All Light' and 'How to be spiritual (and understand quantum physics at the same time) are written for the lay reader, in an easy to read format. www.ItsAllLight.co.ukBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.

DemystifySci is on the road again, still thinking hard about the nature of the universe. In this episode, recorded on a tropical island somewhere in the middle of the Pacific, we dive into the noble tradition of mystical physics, with a little help from Walter Russel, a painter, sculptor, and mystic from the turn of the 20th century. Our goal is twofold. First, to lay the groundwork for why we think there is much to be gained from finding the “needle in the hay” in the ideas of visionary thinkers who approach nature by an intuitive rather than empirical vector. The second is to explore the ideas that inspired Terrence Howard's models - because we're headed down to Los Angeles to record with him in person. As always, we seek to find the best pieces of the ideas on offer and articulate them to everything else that we have come to know about the cosmos. Let u know what you think in the comments, and let us know what questions you have for Terrence. In "Brain Energy: A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Understanding Mental Health--and Improving Treatment for Anxiety, Depression, OCD, PTSD, and More," Dr. Christopher Palmer offers a unified theory of the root cause of all psychiatric disorders. It's a matter of deficits in metabolic function, which can be triggered by a variety of insults including environmental toxins, poor diet, sleep deficits, altered microbiome, inflammation, sedentary lifestyle, and stress. State-of-the-art imaging studies reveal the role that brain energy deficits play in a multitude of disorders. In his clinical practice of psychiatry, Dr. Palmer utilizes a ketogenic diet to upregulate the efficiency of brain mitochondria, resulting in dramatic symptom remission. He decries the “band-aid” approach of of conventional psychiatry which prioritizes symptom relief via drugs—generally incomplete—over a search for underlying precipitants, which can yield more comprehensive recovery.

The book frames the complexification in the universe across the arc of cosmic evolution from the Big Bang to present as a kind of learning that goes through phases. Grounded in the ontology provided by the Tree of Knowledge System and Periodic Table of Behavior, the book charts this evolution starting with Energy and Information and then frames the complexification in Matter as “structural learning,” in Life as “genetic learning,” in Mind as “cognitive learning,” and in Culture as “symbolic learning.” Ultimately, the book culminates on the implications for what is sacred.    ℹ️ - - - Find out more about Brendan Graham Dempsey - - - ℹ️ Book: The Evolution of Meaning - A Universal Learning Process  Press | Sky Meadow Institute Homepage: https://www.brendangrahamdempsey.com/   ℹ️ - - - Find out more about Gregg Henriques - - - ℹ️ Psychology Today: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/contributors/gregg-henriques-phd Medium: https://gregghenriques.medium.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/henriqgx

Transcript: Hello, this is Pastor Don of Christ Redeemer Church. Welcome to The Kingdom Perspective! Several years ago, Dr. Gregg Henriques of James Madison University wrote an article in Psychology Today that caught my attention. It was called “The Justification Hypothesis”. Dr. Henriques is known for his Unified Theory of Knowledge, which is an attempt to have a more interconnected vision of how science, psychology and philosophy are related. His theory consists of eight key ideas, the second of which he entitles Justification Systems Theory. Now, far be it from me to detail the intricacies of his theory. Nonetheless, a statement from the Psychology Today article is worth consideration. He writes:“Look around and you will see systems and processes of justification everywhere in human affairs…. Other animals communicate, struggle for dominance, and form alliances. But they don't justify why they do what they do. We are the justifying animal.”~“The Justification Hypothesis” by Gregg Henriques Ph.D. in Psychology Today; James Madison University To me, this forces the question: Why are human beings unique among all creatures in our propensity to give justification—to give reasons for why we do what we do to provide defense for our motives and actions? I think the Bible gives us the answer. It tells us that human beings are uniquely made in the image of God and given a unique moral duty before Him. Having this innate sense of moral duty to God's Law, we intuitively know we are accountable to Him—that we will have to give an account of every thought, word, and deed. We will be required to justify our lives before the courtroom of heaven. And that's something to think about from The Kingdom Perspective. “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.'”~Genesis 2:15-17 (ESV) “Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work.”~Psalm 62:11-12 (ESV)

Both Gregg and Rick agree that Sapolsky provided a very weak argument, one that was lacking in philosophical sophistication and was anchored to an outmoded, reductive view of scientific knowledge.
