What do we talk about when we talk about God? There are so many problems with the inherited concept, language, and vision of God, that ‘god' might just need a time out. You would be surprised how familiar theologians are with ‘god' problems! One cluster of constructive responses to the predicament of divine discourse is theopoetics. If you ever wondered what would happen if 600 people got to nerd out in person with a bunch of craft beverages and sat down to hear three outstanding theologians tackle this problem, then you were likely at Theology Beer Camp. There, I was joined by Catherine Keller, Kristy Whaley, and Ilia Delio to wrestle with the language we use about ‘god' and the theopoetic turn in theology. If you want to get info, updates, and access to pre-sale tickets for Theology Beer Camp 2025, you can sign up here. Kristy Whaley is faculty at St. Petersburg College, where she teaches both religion and humanities. Her interdisciplinary interests are primarily centered on Christian theology and literature, but often also stray into pop culture, mainly about Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lost. Her most recent book, Wounded Images, is a work in theopoetics. She is also a podcaster and you can put her in your earbuds by checking out Theology on the Rocks. Ilia Delio, OSF, PhD is a Franciscan Sister of Washington, DC, and American theologian specializing in science and religion, with interests in evolution, physics, and neuroscience and the import of these for theology. Catherine Keller is George T. Cobb Professor of Constructive Theology in The Graduate Division of Religion of Drew University. If you are new to Catherine Keller and Process Theology this is the book to start with – On the Mystery: Discerning Divinity In Process. _____________________ This DECEMBER, we will be exploring the 'Theologians of Crisis' in our online Advent class - Breaking into the Broken World. What do a marketer and a racecar driver have in common? You're about to find out. One thing we can say is that going as fast as you can leads to burnout. That's one of the things we're talking about in this episode. We're taking marketing lessons from the 1990 Tom Cruise flick Days of Thunder with the help of our special guest, Director of Content Marketing at Fictiv, Ricky Frohnerath.Together, we talk about being strategic instead of fast, speaking the same language as your team, and building contingency plans in case your campaigns don't go as expected.About our guest, Ricky FrohnerathRicky Frohnerath is Director of Content Marketing for San Francisco-based Fictiv, leading comprehensive content strategy and execution for all marketing campaigns, across all funnel stages and audiences. He specializes in building and managing cross-functional marketing teams for manufacturing and technology organizations. He's the A proponent of agile marketing methodology, servant leadership, self-management principles, and empowerment, his focus is on people first, then process, and then technology. A longtime resident of the Tampa Bay area, his education includes the Pinellas County Center for the Arts, St. Petersburg College, and the University of South Florida. Ricky is an amateur racing driver and avid enthusiast of electric vehicles, who believes in the power of uniting personal and professional values to drive positive change. Thus, he's passionate about accelerating sustainability by sparking and sharing conversations with leaders in electrification, motorsport, and industry. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Days of Thunder:Be strategic, not fast. If you try to go as fast as you can, you burn out or make mistakes. Slowing down just a bit to make sure your work is high quality and highly effective actually means you'll work faster in the end. In Days of Thunder, Ricky says that Cole Trickle's “quest is to find ultimate speed. He's actually over driving the tires and he's driving faster than [his competitors] can. And what happens when you're over driving the tires is that they get greasy and they start to degrade faster. So this is a problem because if you destroy your tires, then you have to come into the pits and that takes time.” So instead Cole learns to drive more efficiently by speeding up or slowing down strategically based on his coach's advice. So slow down to work more efficiently and effectively.Speak the same language as your team. Communication becomes so much more efficient and effective when you share shorthand and jargon. Ricky says, “When you're on a team, you need to be speaking the same language. You need to have a shared lexicon so that there is this transmission of understanding. You need to know what's working, you need to know what's not working, and you need to know what you're talking about.”Build in wiggle room in case things don't go right. If you hit a bump in the road, giving yourself a little extra time in the planning process for your campaign takes the pressure off. Ricky says, “Things are not going to go according to plan. You need to build in some agility and the ability to kind of compensate when it comes time to actually execute.” So give yourself room to breathe with your next campaign timeline. That way, you can correct any issues without stressing over deadlines. In Days of Thunder, it's like when they plan, design and build Cole Trickle's car and then it gets destroyed in an early race and they have to figure out how to pivot.Quotes*”I think it's fairly common for there to be conflict, especially between marketing and sales. One of the ways that you can overcome this is by having a shared language. Understand and adopt the KPIs that the sales team are going after. So, for example, one area where marketing and sales become misaligned is marketing likes to talk about big metrics, like impressions, eyeballs, even things like conversions. But these are KPIs that really don't translate well into the sales world. Like they are interested in leads and they're keeping an eye on sales and revenue and things like that. So make those metrics, your metrics and understand how the marketing activities roll into those KPIs. It's not to say that you don't keep track of impressions and a lot of other things that kind of get labeled as vanity metrics, but understand how you go from an impression down into revenue.”*”If you're overdriving the tires, you're effectively leading to burnout. I think the same is true when we think about high performance teams. The best that somebody can perform is at the limit of their abilities. There is no 110%. You can only do the best that you can at the peak of your ability. You can't give that extra 10%. So forcing you to do that is actually going to have a detrimental effect. So I think that's super important to keep in mind for marketing teams.”*”Marketers in general just need to have a very good understanding of who you're connecting with, who you're marketing to. And I think in general we do a pretty good job of that. I think that authenticity is so important for a very targeted audience and especially one that is extremely cognizant of inauthenticity.”Time Stamps[0:55] Meet Ricky Frohnerath, Director of Content Marketing at Fictiv[7:05] Behind the Scenes of Days of Thunder[12:32] Passion Projects and Marketing Lessons[21:35] The Story of Days of Thunder[23:44] Marketing Lessons from Days of Thunder[25:33] Planning and Agility in Marketing[28:40] Communication and Trust in Teams[32:54] Burnout and High PerformanceLinksConnect with Ricky on LinkedInLearn more about FictivAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. It's election season. And if you're a new voter, it may be intimidating trying to decipher the flood of campaign ads, figure out your ballot or even know who it is you are being asked to vote for. Two people paying close attention to elections are Tara Newsom and Alex Mahadevan. They sat down with WUSF's elections podcast: Our Changing State, Vote 2024 to talk about how young voters are navigating the election and how the media covers politics. Alex Mahadevan is the director of Mediawise at Poynter, which aims to empower people with media literacy skills to identify misinformation. As media organizations shrink and trust in the media slips, Mahadevan says people are turning away from legacy media organizations for their political news and information. “They're going to like an influencer on Tiktok who agrees with, like, how they feel about the world, and they're going to media platforms that kind of match their information consumption habits,” says Mahadevan. And Newsom, who is a professor of government and civic learning at St. Petersburg College has been talking with students about issues they think are important. “In this election they recognize that democracy, their reproductive freedoms, climate change, foreign policy's all on the ballot,” says Newsom.

However, often what we want isn't necessarily our purpose. When someone sees greatness in us, it can be scary to trust their judgment. The essence of leadership is seeing potential in people that don't see it for themselves. For business leader Bridgette Bello, she's had several career leaders as mentors. But she didn't take what her mentors told her at face value. Instead, she leveraged opportunities by learning from some of the best in the business. As a result, she's been able to build a successful career that's allowed her to pay it forward. In this episode of The Growth Fire Podcast, Kevin Hourigan welcomes Bridgette Bello, CEO and Publisher of Tampa Bay Business & Wealth, to discuss her career as a leader in media. Bridgette discusses the magazine's purpose, the defining moment that led her to become a publisher, her commitment to helping her community, and the mentors who paved the way for her success.

Kevin Grass is a Florida artist known primarily for his landscapes and series of hyper-realistic figurative paintings that comment upon social issues of the day. These complex, thought-provoking images were well represented in juried and invitational exhibitions, galleries, and prestigious art publications, but sales were intermittent and unreliable. Lame Ducks is series of smaller, less complex images that retain the humor, narrative, and technical approach of the more involved figure paintings, using rubber ducks as the common thematic element. These visual puns are colorful, fun, and lend themselves more easily to marketing and commercial applications. The paintings are accompanied by a whole series of products at the website https://www.kevingrass.art Kevin Grass lives with his wife and son in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Our guest today is part of a husband and wife duo who are relatively new to the industry but have already reached great success since starting. Joining us is Amy Karol, of Coldwell Banker in St Petersburg, Florida. Amy and her husband Adam, are a full-time husband and wife real estate agent team who go by the A-team. In this episode, join Amy and I as we discuss just how she and her husband landed in real estate, some advice for running a great business, and pet food donations in memory of a furry friend. Listen in to hear how Amy and Adam Karol, two Long Islanders, managed to make it down to Florida! Top Takeaways: Amy Karol's Advice for New Agents: Amy offers a few great pieces of advice to new agents. The most important part of the information she provides is to find mentors who have different strengths that can help you along your real estate journey. It is essential to find people who are willing to help you out and watch you grow. Amy also shares that in the beginning, it's easy to get caught in the growth aspect of learning, attending webinars, and taking classes. Education helps you grow and should always be something to strive for, but you also have to be doing things that will help you to uncover new leads and ultimately generating business. “You know when you get your license, they don't teach you in that first-class how to start a business or how to actually do anything that you need to do.” – Amy Karol [21:12] “You're not taught how to start your business. You're not taught how to do real estate. You feel like you have to learn everything. In one respect, that's what's so easy about us being the A-team. Adam is doing some things, and I'm doing other things, so I do have time to focus.” -Amy Karol [26:34] Episode Highlights: [00:27] Intro [00:43] Meet Amy Karol – One Half of The A-Team [01:37] Growing up in Long Island [05:20] What Amy misses most about Long Island [06:27] What Amy wanted to be at 15 [07:43] Attending Quinnipiac University [10:45] Working in Behavioral Intervention Services [13:06] An Unlikely Love Story [17:23] Teaching at St. Petersburg College [19:29] Amy and Adam's start in real estate [22:36] Who impacted Amy's growth and continued connections [24:18] Starting from scratch and fighting the doubts [26:00] Amy's social media influence [28:03] Bindi's Buddies pet food donations [33:02] Not mixing business with donation work [34:58] Amy's advice for new agents [37:06] Connect with Amy Karole [37:35] Closing Thoughts [38:07] Outro Episode Notes: Joining us today is Amy Karol, a real estate agent at Coldwell Banker Real Estate, and part of a husband and wife real estate duo called the A-team. In this episode, Amy Karol shares how she got started in real estate with her husband, Adam. Amy recounts her story on how she landed in Tampa, Florida, doing real estate and her work running Bindi's Buddies pet food donations in memory of her late furry friend. Originally from Long Island, New York, Amy Karol reminisces about some of the things she misses from where she grew up. Friends and family, the beaches, the food, and even the accents. Amy growing up, didn't know what she wanted to be and admits she still really doesn't know. Amy shares that no matter what age she is, she has always wanted to be a writer, never thinking it would be her profession but something she wanted to do someday. Amy also shares her love for animals. She thought briefly about working as a veterinarian or pet psychologist but didn't materialize into what she was expecting it to be today. Amy ended up attending Quinnipiac University, graduating with a degree in English. Still not knowing what she wanted to be, Amy contemplated the idea of becoming an English professor, so she decided to attend graduate school at Dowling College to receive a Masters in Reading and Special Education. Growing up in Dubuque County, baseball was more than just a game. Tim and Colin talk about the baseball tradition in Cascade and the ballplayers Rea and his friends looked up to. After a successful high school career, Rea took his only D-I offer and made the trip to the University of Northern Iowa. The fellow UNI Panthers reminisce about their time in the final years of the program and the now laughable conditions they practiced and played in. Unexpectedly, the UNI program shut down during Rea's freshman season. The sudden ending to his time as a Panther set the stage for a career that had a few sudden moves. The end of the program in Cedar Falls opened a new opportunity for Rea and some of his teammates at St. Petersburg College in Florida which was an eye-opening experience. After his sophomore year playing against really talented Florida JUCO players, Rea transferred to Indiana State to reunite with former UNI Coach (and Moonlighter) Rick Heller. From the moment he became a Sycamore, he was named the Friday night starter and never looked back. A solid junior year garnered Rea enough attention and respect that he was taken in the 12th round of the 2011 draft by the San Diego Padres. After establishing himself at each level in the Padre system, Rea was called up in August of 2015. A little reminiscent of his college career, Colin Rea spent one year with the Padres before being traded to Miami. However, this trip to Florida was shorter than his time with St. Petersburg. Rea's career as a Marlin lasted just 4 and ⅓ innings before he was sent back to San Diego due to an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. After missing the entire 2017 season, it took all of 2018 and into 2019 before Rea started to feel like he was 100% again. And now, Colin Rea is the 2019 Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year and has a very good chance of getting back into the big leagues as the Cubs make their post-season run. Returning to the big leagues would be the perfect ending to this Moonlighter's story.
