Throughout her ten years of service at the highest levels of the British government, former Prime Minister Liz Truss bore witness to the dangerous schemes of the Global Left, who continue to push their model of corporate state-socialism on the world. In her new book, Ten Years to Save the West: Leading the Revolution Against Globalism, Socialism, and the Liberal Establishment, Truss warns us that “freedom is at risk,” and conservatives in the west desperately need to defend it. Truss asserts that conservatives on both sides of the Atlantic have allowed the Left to push their agenda of larger government and curtailing individual freedom too far. She also highlights how the ever-expanding “administrative state” is fast extinguishing the traditional norms of sovereignty and democratic accountability, which should be a universal cause for concern.Prime Minister Truss will discuss these themes and more in her conversation with Dr. Nile Gardiner, Director of Heritage's Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom. “Currently, the government spends 45 percent of GDP in Britain. You know, that is a pretty astonishing figure. It's 36 percent in the United States, so you're not that far behind. But in Britain, it's 45 percent, and I don't think that represents a proper free market economy.”In this episode, I sit down with Liz Truss, former prime minister of the United Kingdom. We dive into the reality of mass immigration and net-zero climate policy in Britain and discuss how parliamentary powers are being supplanted by unelected bureaucracies.“Even though we left the European Union, most of the European laws are still on our statute books. So, it's a bit like getting divorced and still living in the same house as your ex-husband,” says Ms. Truss. “We've reduced carbon emissions, but that's because we're importing more goods from countries like China, who are building coal-fired power stations. So, there's no net benefit to the planet. All that's happened is we have empowered our enemies, and we've damaged our own industry.”We also talk about the anti-Israel protests sweeping Britain, and Islamist threats targeting members of Parliament.“There's clearly a basis of self-loathing. The people who are on the streets chanting in favor of Hamas or saying ‘capitalism is evil'—they don't like Britain. They don't like the British way of life. They don't like our values,” she said. “A lot of conservatives just think this is a normal political fight. It's not a normal political fight. This is an enemy within our own country.”Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

Note: this episode was recorded before Huw Edwards was named by his wife as the presenter at the centre of the BBC scandal. There are no shortage of crises on the rocket this week, in-between the economic and immigration rows and a sex scandal threatening to rock the BBC, our co-pilots have got their hands full. Allison's disgust with the government's immigration policies are growing by the day. She thinks the ‘liberal elite' in Westminster would rather stick up for foreigners than their people and that we're in the midst of a ‘national emergency'.From immigration to the economy. Co-pilot Halligan is on hand to answer the big questions circling former Prime Minister Liz Truss's new growth committee. Is the former PM really to blame for the country's economic woe? Or were we already heading for a crash landing?Boarding the rocket of right thinking for her second voyage is former Olympic swimmer, Sharron Davies MBE who gives our co-pilots an update on her campaign to keep biological men out of women's sports categories. She also explains the dangers of abolishing gender categories at children's sports days. And Allison gives Liam a lesson in Welsh pronunciation. This week, politics in the UK looked a little — crazy. Outraged members of Parliament yelled their demands for Prime Minister Liz Truss to resign, a head of iceberg lettuce managed to outlast her, and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson -who was just ousted a few months ago over the "partygate" scandal- is back in play as a possible replacement for Truss. It feels like political theater, but the consequences are very real as people in the U.K. continue to struggle through an economic crisis. As the very "un-British" chaos continues to unfold, is it proof that the British political system, at its messiest, is still less dysfunctional than U.S. politics? NPR's Cheryl W. Thompson speaks with Rosa Prince, editor of "The House", a magazine that covers U.K. Parliament. And expat Brian Klaas of The Atlantic, explains why he thinks the latest fallout is proof that British democracy is in better shape than American democracy.
