On our podcast today we'll be continuing our series on specific EVs that are on the market at the moment. We've already covered the BMW i3, and the Kia Soul. Today we're looking at the Nissan Leaf 40kWh. Range? Efficiency? Specs? What's it like to drive? We also look at Rapidgate and see if it's as big a problem as everybody thinks. We have input today from Dean Snelling and Mike Stanton (Who you will know from our episode on Charging (episode 2). Thanks to them for their thoughts and comments. Show #518 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 4th July 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. TESTING SUGGESTS NEW 62 KWH NISSAN LEAF SUFFERS FROM #RAPIDGATE "A recent road test by German EV rental specialist Nextmove has found that the new 62 kWh Nissan LEAF still suffers from similar DC fast charging throttling (#Rapidgate) issues at elevated temperature as the 40 kWh LEAF." according to Dr Max Holland for CleanTechnica: "the Tekna trim price being £35,895 in the UK (higher prices than its battery electric competition, the Hyundai Kona EV or Kia Niro EV) and €47,000 in Germany (more than the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus). whether or not this best-seen-charge-speed of 44 kW was temperature-limited or charger-power-limited, the drastically lower power (28 kW and 24 kW) delivered at subsequent DC charge sessions, corresponding to higher battery pack temperatures (47°C and 49°C, respectively) can only be explained by thermal throttling. The 24 kW (corresponding to 49°C) was seen on the 2nd DC charge session on the first day of the test. On the 40kWh car, to its credit, in some regions, Nissan has recognised the issue and offered a software update to make the charge power restrictions a little less stringent. This effectively changes the battery management firmware to allow the battery to reach somewhat higher temperatures before restricting the DC charging power." Nissan give this guidance "“The Nissan LEAF is designed to support the majority of journeys in daily life and is equipped with charging safeguards to protect the battery during repeated rapid charging sessions in a short period of time. The time taken for successive rapid charging can take longer if the battery temperature activates the battery safeguarding technology.” https://cleantechnica.com/2019/07/02/initial-testing-suggests-new-62-kwh-nissan-leaf-suffers-from-rapidgate-on-longer-trips/ IN JUNE 2019, E-TRON SALES ACCOUNTED FOR 3.7% OF AUDI VOLUME IN U.S. "In June, Audi e-tron sales in the U.S. were a little lower than in May (726 vs 856), but overall it wasn't a bad result for the second full month of availability." says the InsideEVs Sales Scorecard: "Currently, the e-tron accounts for 3.7% of Audi sales (compared to 4.5% in May), which is significant as the brand balances on the growth/decline edge (in June sales decreased by 0.3% to 19,409). Comparing the e-tron to the Tesla Model X (2,725) reveals a huge difference of around 2,000, but it will be interesting to see how the situation progresses over time." https://insideevs.com/news/357881/june-2019-e-tron-sales-us/ Volkswagen quietly announces the new e-up for 2020 "Following the announcements of the ŠKODA CITIGOe iV and the SEAT Mii, the new Volkswagen e-up is finally unveiled to complete the electric city car trio. It’s curious that Volkswagen have not made a worldwide press release yet, since this automaker is the champion of announcing electric cars for the future. Instead, the new Volkswagen e-up was announced at the Volkswagen Nederland website." notices Pedro for PushEVs.com. It turns out this info was also on the Nederlands VW page as far back as APril: "The popular small car Volkswagen e-up! comes in an updated version with up to 260 km range (WLTP test cycle) " https://pushevs.com/2019/07/03/volkswagen-quietly-announces-the-new-e-up-for-2020/ ASTON MARTIN GIVES A GLIMPSE INTO ITS FUTURE IN LONDON "Aston Martin has been showcasing its electrified future in London, with two of its future models on display." reports Motor1.com: "The Rapide E, Aston Martin's first all-electric production car; and the Lagonda Vision concept which showcases the reborn brand and its future all-electric products have been on show this week at Aston Martin's central London showroom in Mayfair. The £250,000 Rapide E is Aston Martin's first all-electric production vehicle, and only 155 will be built." https://uk.motor1.com/news/356858/aston-martin-evs-london/ LONDON: FIRST ELECTRIC BYD DOUBLE-DECKERS ARRIVE "Together with their British partner ADL, BYD has introduced the first of 37 new all-electric Enviro400EV double-decker buses. The first five buses have gone into service in London on Line 43." says electrive: "The Enviro400EV is based on the well-known Enviro200EV, but is larger. The new aluminium body is 10.9 metres long, 4.3 metres high and 2.55 metres wide. The bus is powered by wheel hub motors. The iron phosphate batteries have a capacity of up to 382 kWh, which enables a range of 250 kilometres, according to BYD." https://www.electrive.com/2019/07/03/london-first-electric-byd-double-deckers-arrive/ 2020 RENAULT CAPTUR BREAKS COVER WITH FAMILIAR LOOK, NEW TECH "the new Captur will also get a plug-in hybrid powertrain with up to 28 miles (45 kilometers) of purely electric range in mixed use. The so-called E-Tech mill features over 150 new patents from the French manufacturer and should become the segment’s first such offering when it debuts early next year." https://www.motor1.com/news/357843/2020-renault-captur-unveiled/amp/ SOLAR POWER INSTALLATIONS TO INCREASE 1,600% THIS YEAR "NEWLY installed solar power will see a massive 1,600% increase in Spain this year, according to a leading renewable energy union." says the olivepress.es: "The Spanish Voltaic Union (UNEF) predicts the installation of 4,400 MW of solar power this year, up from just 261.7 MW in 2018. The newly installed power will be made up of 4,000 MW of power from large-scale plants, and 400 MW from personal consumers. The spokeswoman added that the repeal of the controversial ‘sun tax’ in April this year has opened the floodgates for new renewable energy. The stultifying tax was introduced in 2015 by Mariano Rajoy’s PP government and penalised houses with solar panels if they wished to remain connected to the national grid. This meant households with solar panels were reportedly paying around €70 per month to national energy companies – even if they never used any external power." https://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2019/06/28/solar-power-installations-to-increase-1600-this-year-thanks-to-repeal-of-sun-tax-leading-industry-union-predicts/ COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Show #504 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 18th June 2019. Welcome to a new PRODUCER DAVE GINNANE. Hello to Richard Graham: "By the way, what would you think about doing a Model 3 delivery day special? i.e follow a Tesla customer on their delivery experience and post delivery first impressions etc. I would volunteer myself but I suspect my M3 might only be delivered July/August so the excitement may have died down by then." NEW NISSAN LEAFS AVAILABLE IN EUROPE "The latest versions of the Nissan Leaf are now available for purchase in Europe. This includes the longer range Leaf e+, as well as the conventionally updated Leaf. First deliveries have already begun." says electrive: "The Leaf e+ has already marked over 8,000 orders since it’s January reveal. With a 62 kWh battery, provided by AESC, and a 160 kW electric motor. The starting price here goes for €45,000. The basic new Leaf starts at a price of €35,400 and features a 40 kWh battery for 40% less range compared to the larger version. Both vehicles still charge using CHAdeMO with 70 kW standard charge and a 100kW peak. Following the “Rapidgate” charging scandal, the software for the vehicles was undated to ensure longer and more stable battery life." https://www.electrive.com/2019/06/18/new-nissan-leafs-available-in-europe/ TESLA’S OWNER-VOLUNTEERS FROM CHINA MOBILIZE TO HELP END-OF-Q2 DELIVERIES "Tesla’s second-quarter deliveries in China are getting a rather unexpected boost, thanks to a number of electric car owners who are volunteering their time to help the company hand over as many vehicles as possible before the end of the month. Tesla is currently attempting to set new delivery records this Q2, and it would take every one of its delivery teams across the globe to dig deep to achieve its goal of beating Q4 2018’s numbers. The fourth quarter, after all, was a time when Tesla delivered more than 90,000 vehicles globally." says Simon at Teslarati: "As could be seen in the efforts of Tesla owners in China, this willingness to help the company is not only true for electric car owners in the United States. Even in a place such as China, where the Model 3 only started deliveries earlier this year, owners are volunteering their time to help out the company. " https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-china-owners-help-model-3-deliveries-q2-2019/ NORWAY UPDATES: SUBARU, MAZDA, & FORD SALES PLUMMET "Norwegian Twitter user Tesla Driver tweeted an article from the daily Norwegian business paper Finansavisen (behind a paywall) that highlighted more bad news for car companies slow to electrify in Norway." according to CleanTechnica: "Subaru sales are down 66% in 2019, Mazda sales are down 45% in the last 3 years, and Ford sales are down 50% in the last 10 years. In case you missed it, last month we reported on layoffs at a leading Mercedes dealer due to its lack of competitive products. Automakers and dealers slow to electrify are suffering. Toyota and Hyundai have stopped selling hydrogen cars in Norway. The manufactures were forced to get loaner cars to the few people who had purchased hydrogen cars, since all the hydrogen fuel stations are closed while the government investigates an explosion at a hydrogen fueling station." https://cleantechnica.com/2019/06/17/norway-updates-subaru-mazda-ford-sales-plummet-hydrogen-car-sales-frozen-tesla-sales-jump/ GERMANY TO SUPPORT THREE BATTERY CELL ALLIANCES "Germany will support three company alliances with earmarked funds of 1 billion euros for the domestic production of battery cells in an effort to reduce carmakers’ dependence on Asian suppliers, Economy Minister Peter Altmaier told Reuters." says an article today on Reuters UK: "Among the more than 30 companies that applied for state funding at the German Economy Ministry are carmakers Volkswagen and BMW, as well as German battery maker Varta and Swedish battery manufacturing startup Northvolt. France and Germany have already asked the European Commission to approve state subsidies for a cross-border battery cell consortium including carmaker PSA, its German subsidiary Opel and French battery maker Saft." https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-europe-batteries-germany/germany-to-support-three-battery-cell-alliances-economy-minister-idUKKCN1TJ1LC 2020 MINI COOPER S E ELECTRIC CAR'S REVEAL DATE ANNOUNCED "Although we've pretty much seen the production 2020 Mini Cooper S E electric hatchback, we've been in the dark about when the car, and more importantly its specifications, will officially be revealed. But now the company says we'll see it on July 9, just a few weeks away." write Joel for Autoblog: "We're most anxious for confirmation on performance specifications. In our prototype drive, we learned that the motor is based on the one from the BMW i3S, so it should make about 181 horsepower, just 8 shy of the gas-powered Mini Cooper S. But the range estimate given during the prototype drive was a rather low 120 miles." https://www.autoblog.com/2019/06/18/2020-mini-cooper-s-e-electric-car-reveal-date/ PORSCHE CEO PRAISES TESLA In USA Today, Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Porsche North America writes: "Tesla has made inroads, but now I believe we are approaching a turning point. In coming years we will see more widespread adoption as volume producers including General Motors, Nissan, and VW join with premium brands like Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche to launch numerous battery-only models. As more Americans experience the instant power and sporty handling that electric cars provide, more will want this new generation of electric vehicles. First, Tesla has proven there is significant demand for cars that combine sustainability with performance and design. Last year, the Model 3 outsold any other premium sedan in the U.S. We know that American consumers embrace new technology, especially if it delivers a new experience. And once a technology catches on, consumers respond well to expanded choice as competitors enter the field. Just look at how many models of SUV you can buy today, or the proliferation of smartphones since Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007.” POLESTAR 1 PROTOTYPE REVIEW "The Polestar hybrid set-up with the limited lifespan is based on a 2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged, supercharged petrol engine. On its own it produces 304bhp – although an integrated starter-generator adds a useful extra 67bhp and tries its hardest to improve response." says evo when reviewing the Polestar 1: "Then at the rear, there’s a pair of electric motors, delivering four-wheel drive and another 228bhp again. The final tally? Some 599bhp. The powertrain can operate in a number of modes, including that pure-electric focus, a hybrid setting where the car manages the mix and focuses on efficiency, and a performance configuration that uses all available power sources. The system can also top up the battery while on the move, allowing you to build up enough charge during a long journey for zero-emissions running at your destination." https://www.evo.co.uk/polestar/22796/polestar-1-prototype-review-a-hybrid-alternative-to-the-bentley-continental-gt LEVC REVEALS NEW RANGE-EXTENDED LIGHT COMMERCIAL VAN LEVC’s new commercial vehicle, a zero-emission capable light van, draws on more than 70 years of knowledge from the same company that manufactures the world’s only purpose-built range extended electric taxi. Based on the same architecture and proven e-City range extender technology as LEVC’s TX taxi, of which there are now just under 2,000 on the roads – the vast majority in London – this second vehicle from LEVC will give operators and drivers huge amounts of flexibility with an electric range of 80 miles and a combined petrol and EV range of 377 miles. Targeting those who travel around 100 miles a day, LEVC’s LCV will offer ‘distribution to door’ – not just last mile – providing the link between out of town depots and city centres, capable of collecting goods outside of a major city in range extender mode, before switching to EV mode in an Ultra-Low Emissions Zone. This is currently a sector of the market dominated by one tonne medium size diesel vans. COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. PORSCHE TAYCAN UPDATE In a new article today about the Porsche Taycan InsideEVs says: "The Taycan will be equipped with a 90-kWh battery pack and a 22 kW onboard charger. It will feature a cold weather package with front and rear heated seats. A heated steering wheel and a heat pump will be optional." Meanwhile over at CarScoops; "Walter Röhrl is not exactly known to be a fan of electric vehicles; in fact, he was an outspoken hater. The legendary rally driver has always been a big advocate of the internal combustion engine. Last year, the two-time WRC champion and Porsche ambassador famously said he didn’t want to be involved in the development of the Taycan (then known as the Mission E), or any other electric Porsche for that matter, because he disliked EVs." He said: "It’s crazy. In all my years of rallying, I’ve never experienced such performance. The Taycan goes so well at such speed, really tremendous” he told Porsche’s media portal. When asked about how the Taycan handles, Röhrl praised the engineers for a “great job on the tuning” and “excellent use of the low center of gravity.” The Porsche ambassador added that “the steering and even the brakes handle superbly. “I would never have expected that the lack of any sound from the drive system could mean no loss of performance. In fact, I really like the quietness of the Taycan; it’s something of an experience in itself.” https://insideevs.com/porsche-taycan-90-kwh-battery-optional-heat-pump/ NISSAN LEAF RAPIDGATE SOFTWARE FIX FOR EUROPE ONLY? "It seemed like the 2018 Nissan LEAF‘s Rapidgate had come to an end with a software update for cars manufactured between December 8, 2017 and May 9, 2018" reports Mark at InsideEVs.com: "However, according to the latest news provided by Gary Lieber from CleanFleetReport.com, further research for the U.S. market revealed that the software fix will be available only in Europe. Attempts to find out how LEAF owners can get the fix done had no results. Jeff Wandell at Nissan PR in Franklin clarified that there is none available because there were no customers experiencing the problem (at least considering complaints at dealer service centers)." Nissan: "The vast majority of our US customers don’t use multiple fast charging procedures in any single day, so they are not affected by the charging safeguard feature on the new LEAF. Regarding the software update in Europe, Nissan is not currently planning to conduct the update in the US. For LEAF customers who expect to consistently use fast charging procedures more than twice per day for extended distance driving, we would suggest they contact their local Nissan dealership for advice on how to get the best out of their LEAF under these exceptional driving scenarios.” https://insideevs.com/nissan-leaf-rapidgate-software-fix-europe/ HIGH POWERED CHARGERS OFFLINE DUE TO SAFETY "At the recommendation of its supplier, HUBER+SUHNER, a leading supplier of high-powered charging cable technology in the industry, Electrify America is shutting down the majority of its high-powered chargers (150 kW – 350kW) in its network to investigate a potential safety issue with its liquid-cooled cables. The recommendation was issued to all of HUBER+SUHNERS’ customers using the technology worldwide." reports GReen Car Congress: "At a charging station on a test site of a customer in Germany, a short-circuit occurred with a HUBER+SUHNER cooled high-power charging cable. Nobody was injured in this incident. The short-circuit occurred in the plug. The cooling circuit with the synthetic, non-conductive coolant can be ruled out as the cause. The product in question is a first-generation prototype. Giovanni Palazzo, president and CEO of Electrify America: "Out of an abundance of caution, Electrify America is shutting down all of our stations that use the HUBER+SUHNER high-powered cables until we can confirm that they can be operated safely. We are confident that HUBER+SUHNER will investigate and resolve this issue as quickly as possible." "As a precautionary measure, HUBER+SUHNER has recommended its customers to suspend the operation of all charging stations with the high-power charging system until the tests have been completed. The affected prototype was already delivered in the summer of 2017. The series products differ from the first prototypes by, among other things, increased sealing. vHUBER+SUHNER will provide further information as soon as new findings become available." Also affected in Europe are FAstned who issued the statement: "The shutdown only concerns the 175 kW chargers with liquid cooled cables. Our 50 kW CCS/CHAdeMO/AC chargers are not impacted and available for use. This means that customers can still charge at all Fastned stations. Some 175 kW chargers with different cables also remain available." https://www.greencarcongress.com/2019/01/20190226-ea.html QUESTION OF THE WEEK! NISSAN UPDATES LEAF SOFTWARE FOR ALL AFTER #RAPIDGATE First up a public service announcement, following all of Nissans troubles over the last 12months. We first heard about a software fix from Bjorn Nyland who tested a newer LEAF 40, and it took a higher charge speed whilst being pretty hot. He raised questions over the long term health of the battery, but it was an anecdotal story of someone contacting their dealer for the fix, and being turned away which concerned me. If I were Nissan I would be on a PR offensive to superserve my customers. Well now we have more details on the story thanks to Electrive.com: "Nissan is now offering a software update for Leaf models with a 40 kWh battery to correct the significant reduction of the DC charging power that occurred under the so-called Rapidgate." says an article today: "A Nissan spokesman told electrive that they would offer the for all Leaf models produced between 8 December 2017 and 9 May 2018. Electric vehicles with a later production date already have the current software version." I was never able to test it, so i never commented on it at the time, despite a fair few complaints and people saying I was ignoring it because I was in Nissan's pocket. I like to think of it as not defaming a company for something I had no personal proof over, but hey, you feel free to get yourself sued. However as time went on there was a general reluctance from Nissan to hold their hands up and say it was a fault, but instead they recognised the issue and it was expected behiviour. However Electrive did test it themselves: "Our editors put this to the test and could confirm the problem. According to the Japanese carmaker, the Leaf has “safety precautions” to protect the battery during repeated rapid charging processes. These are important for the service life of the powerpack, not least due to a lack of thermal management." And of course the Nissan warranty is unaffected. Is that good enough, LEAF drivers? What else would Nissan realistically do? Should the LEAF be thought of a town car, with very occasional long drives, if this problem rears up on the 62kWh car? And if so, why carry around such a heavy battery on a town car, when a lighter car would be more efficient? https://www.electrive.com/2019/01/22/nissan-updates-leaf-software-after-rapidgate/ TOYOTA AND PANASONIC CONFIRM JV FOR EV BATTERIES "Toyota Motor Corp and Panasonic Corp said on Tuesday they will launch a joint venture next year to make electric vehicle (EV) batteries, leveraging the heft of one of the world’s largest automakers and battery makers to expand their EV push." confirmed Reurters today: "Toyota will own 51 percent of the joint venture, and Panasonic the rest, the two companies said in a joint statement, confirming previous reports." https://www.reuters.com/article/toyota-panasonic/toyota-panasonic-announce-jv-for-ev-batteries-idUST9N1CC01D PEUGEOT 2008 COMING AS A FULL EV "Peugeot will follow up the imminent launch of its new 208 supermini with a new 2008 crossover, due to be revealed in the autumn." reports Autocar: "The most significant change brought about by the new platform is that Peugeot will offer the 2008 as a fully electric model for the first time. Expected to be launched in early 2020, not long after the conventional petrol and diesel variants, the electric version follows on from the platform-sharing 208 and will adapt that car's electric motor and lithium ion battery pack. Details of the electric 2008's range and performance haven't yet been revealed." https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-peugeot-2008-be-offered-all-electric-variant PEUGEOT WARNS UK DEALERS TO READY FOR EV REVOLUTION "Peugeot has told its UK dealer network to prepare themselves for the coming EV revolution. During its 2019 National Dealer Conference at the NEC in Birmingham, the carmaker spelled out how its sees the growth of EV adoption will change the face of dealership service required by consumers." according to today's report by Paul Myles for TU Automotive: "David Peel, managing director of Peugeot UK, told dealers to ‘be prepared’ for the energy transition especially with the brand committing to electrifying its entire product range over the next five years." https://www.tu-auto.com/peugeot-warns-uk-dealers-to-ready-for-ev-revolution/ TESLA SAYS IT RECEIVED BATTERY QUOTES FROM LISHEN BUT NO DEAL AGREED "Tesla Inc said on Tuesday it had received quotes from Tianjin Lishen to supply batteries for its new Shanghai electric car factory but had not signed any agreement with the Chinese firm." according to Business Report: "Reuters earlier on Tuesday reported, citing two sources with direct knowledge of the matter, that Tesla and Lishen had signed a preliminary agreement and were working on the details." https://www.iol.co.za/business-report/international/tesla-says-it-received-battery-quotes-from-lishen-but-no-deal-agreed-18905698 HONDA TEASES NEW EV PROTOTYPE AHEAD OF GENEVA DEBUT Yesterday I talked how the Honda Urban EV won the Readers Vote for the What Car? Car Of The Year Awards, despite still being a prototype. Well today, "Honda confirms the rumors about the world premiere of a new EV prototype at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The Japanese manufacturer revealed a design sketch of the prototype and said that the production version will go on sale later this year." https://insideevs.com/honda-teases-new-ev-prototype/amp/ VW: SMALL ELECTRIC CARS MAY BE UNAFFORDABLE FOR SOME This is a strange story next. Let me give you basics and we'll work out what it means. "The move to electric vehicles will make cars significantly more expensive, meaning they may become unaffordable for people on low incomes in the future, the chairman of Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) said in an interview published on Sunday." according to Reuters. Hans-Dieter Poetsch told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper: "We have the clear goal of making electromobility accessible to a broad section of the population, that is to make it affordable. The current price level cannot stay the same if these cars are equipped with electric motors. Therefore, it will inevitably lead to significant price increases in the small car segment.” And then: "Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess warned that the European Union’s proposed emissions target for 2030 is too demanding and the resulting push to EVs could make motoring too expensive for some consumers." which was picked up by Automotive News Europe: "Diess said VW Group will be able to comply with the EU's average fleet carbon dioxide emissions of around 60 grams per km by 2030 by boosting sales of its full-electric cars to between 45 percent to 50 percent of the group's total volume. But he warned: "I am not sure how many customers could afford it." As examples, Diess said the retail price of a VW Up minicar that could rise in price by about 3,500 euros to 14,500 euros to be compliant with the 2030 emissions target. The price for the small Polo model could rise by 4,000 euros, he said." So this is where I'm at a loss. Europe has very stringent emissions rules coming in for 2030, it's based on the total fleet of cars you sell and it's CO2 they're measuring. VW say they're going to be an electgric leader and will be making enough EVs by then not be affected by the rules. The first point about EVs being more expensive than piston cars is something you can't comment on unless you have access to VW finances. But a 40kWh pack would add $4,000 dollars when prices come down to $100/kWh. So for a VW Up that size battery would be overkill. Maybe add $1,000 dollars for the motor and ancillaries, so you start at $5,000 and have to build the car on top of that. But this is by 2030 - and remember can't compare 100 year old piston technology to battery technology, in the last 10 years alone the cost of battery's has come down from roughly $1,000 to $150 per kWh. Imagine what tech will be like in 11 years! Remember CEO's don't say things like this for no reason, they have a game plan. And when you're so high up the food chain, pretty much every public comment you make will be politically driven to influence someone. As for the comment that emissions regulations will mean small cars get more expensive to meet those demands. But hang on, aren't we always being told VW will make so many EVs by 2030, the way I see it, that will easily offset the total fleet emissions. So sell a bunch of EVs and which allows you to keep selling the last few piston cars. Final thought – 11 years ago you had never heard of Tesla. The automotive industry relies on stability, and to them it’s natural to talk with certainty about 2030. At best it’s a projection, at worst it’s fantasy guesswork. Truth is, nobody knows what the car industry will be like 2030 and which incumbents have long since gone bust because they didn’t move to EV quick enough. https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-volkswagen-electric-vehicles/small-electric-cars-may-be-unaffordable-for-some-vw-chairman-to-newspaper-idUKKCN1PE0EJ https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/vws-diess-warns-emissions-push-could-make-cars-too-expensive-some-consumers INNOGY EMOBILITY UK APPOINTS NISSAN’S KARL ANDERS AS MANAGING DIRECTOR "Former Nissan Fleet national EV manager Karl Anders has been appointed as managing director of innogy eMobility UK." says FleetNews: "Innogy eMobility UK acts as a technology and service provider with an eMobility hardware and software portfolio. The company is a supplier to several major automobile manufacturers and has already started the roll out for the Audi UK dealer network." https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/people-news/2019/01/22/innogy-emobility-uk-appoints-nissan-s-karl-anders-as-managing-director COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. 1st Audio Podcast from the EV Revolution Show. Todays topics include a woman's experience with EV ownership with my special guest. We also talk about some EV charging misconceptions, why EVs have lower maintenance and Ken provides more opinion in thinking about Nissan Leaf and the "Rapidgate" news.
James just bought a Nissan Leaf 2018 40kWh model and has a YouTube channel on which he tells us loads of great information about how to get the best from the car. He regularly drives the car between Scotland and Newcastle and looked hard at how to charge the car and not get the battery too hot. #Rapidgate doesn't seem to affect him much and he's driven many miles in the New Leaf.
