When a child or a nation chooses a path you are completely against, how do you respond without losing your strength? Discover "The Samuel Principle" and find out why a faith crisis or a transition in leadership is an invitation to evaluate our hearts—not just our outward appearances. Summary: In this episode, we unpack 1 Samuel 8–16, charting the shift from the rule of judges to the era of the kings. We navigate the messy landscape of parental grief, corporate peer pressure, and the personal conversion required to shift from a "hidden" potential to a "magnified" priesthood. The Samuel Principle: We analyze how to implement the three-part divine formula when a loved one exercises their agency poorly: hearken to their voice, protest solemnly, and show them the long-term consequences. Hiding Among the Stuff: We address Saul's overwhelming sense of inadequacy and why we are tempted to bury our potential under worldly distractions when God calls us to step forward. Turned into Another Man: We look at the spiritual alchemy that happens when the Spirit of the Lord comes upon a person, making them unrecognizable to those who only knew their "old" self. The Jurisdiction of Authority: We analyze Saul's fatal overreach at Gilgal, exploring the difference between doing a right thing in a wrong way and why waiting on the Lord's timing is an act of covenant trust. The Heart vs. The Stature: We conclude in Bethlehem, exploring why the Lord refused Eliab's height and chose the ruddy shepherd boy David, reminding us that man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart. Call-to-Action: Are you currently hiding "among the stuff" because you feel inadequate for what the Lord is asking you to do? How can David's hidden, shepherd-heart inspire you to step into the light this week? Share your thoughts in the comments! Full Text of Readings Wednesday of the Third Week of Lent Lectionary: 239 The Saint of the day is Saint John Ogilvie Saint John Ogilvie's Story Saint John Ogilvie's noble Scottish family was partly Catholic and partly Presbyterian. His father raised him as a Calvinist, sending him to the continent to be educated. There, John became interested in the popular debates going on between Catholic and Calvinist scholars. Confused by the arguments of Catholic scholars whom he sought out, he turned to Scripture. Two texts particularly struck him: “God wills all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth,” and “Come to me all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you.” Slowly, Saint John Ogilvie came to see that the Catholic Church could embrace all kinds of people. Among these, he noted, were many martyrs. He decided to become Catholic and was received into the Church at Louvain, Belgium, in 1596 at the age of 17. Saint John Ogilvie continued his studies, first with the Benedictines, then as a student at the Jesuit College at Olmutz. He joined the Jesuits and for the next 10 years underwent their rigorous intellectual and spiritual training. At his ordination to the priesthood in France in 1610, Saint John Ogilvie met two Jesuits who had just returned from Scotland after suffering arrest and imprisonment. They saw little hope for any successful work there in view of the tightening of the penal laws. But a fire had been lit within John. For the next two and a half years he pleaded to be placed there as a missionary. Sent by his superiors, he secretly entered Scotland posing as a horse trader or a soldier returning from the wars in Europe. Unable to do significant work among the relatively few Catholics in Scotland, John made his way back to Paris to consult his superiors. Rebuked for having left his assignment in Scotland, he was sent back. He warmed to the task before him and had some success in making converts and in secretly serving Scottish Catholics. But he was soon betrayed, arrested, and brought before the court. His trial dragged on until he had been without food for 26 hours. He was imprisoned and deprived of sleep. For eight days and nights he was dragged around, prodded with sharp sticks, his hair pulled out. Still, he refused to reveal the names of Catholics or to acknowledge the jurisdiction of the king in spiritual affairs. He underwent a second and third trial but held firm. At his final trial, he assured his judges: “In all that concerns the king, I will be slavishly obedient; if any attack his temporal power, I will shed my last drop of blood for him. But in the things of spiritual jurisdiction which a king unjustly seizes I cannot and must not obey.” Condemned to death as a traitor, he was faithful to the end, even when on the scaffold he was offered his freedom and a fine living if he would deny his faith. His courage in prison and in his martyrdom was reported throughout Scotland. Saint John Ogilvie was canonized in 1976, becoming the first Scottish saint since 1250. His liturgical feast is celebrated on March 10. Reflection John came of age when neither Catholics nor Protestants were willing to tolerate one another. Turning to Scripture, he found words that enlarged his vision. Although he became a Catholic and died for his faith, he understood the meaning of “small-c catholic,” the wide range of believers who embrace Christianity. Even now he undoubtedly rejoices in the ecumenical spirit fostered by the Second Vatican Council and joins us in our prayer for unity with all believers. Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media

What if the most dangerous opposition to your destiny doesn't come from enemies… but from people who love you? In this episode, Dr. Delisa Rodgers unpacks one of the most misunderstood and intense moments in Scripture — when Jesus turned to Peter and said: “Get thee behind me, Satan.” — Matthew 16:23 (KJV) Why would Jesus call His closest disciple Satan? Was Peter possessed? Rebuked? Rejected? Or was something deeper happening? This episode explores the psychological, spiritual, and warfare dimensions of that confrontation. We examine how suggestion can function as strategy, how fear can masquerade as protection, and how even spiritually mature voices can unintentionally resist divine timing. You will discover: • Why the cross was the real target • How warfare often sounds reasonable • The difference between identity and alignment • Why Jesus corrected sharply but restored fully • How to discern when a voice is speaking from heaven — or from human emotion We also connect this moment to the wilderness temptation in Matthew 4 and explore how consistent spiritual strategies attempt to detour purpose rather than destroy it. This is not about labeling people as devils. It is about recognizing adversarial alignment. If you are navigating leadership, calling, relationships, or moments where obedience costs more than comfort, this episode will sharpen your discernment and strengthen your resolve. Because sometimes “Get behind me” is not rejection. It is repositioning.

The sermon centers on the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the definitive triumph over death, emphasizing that despite the disciples' initial unbelief and stubborn resistance to the testimony of multiple eyewitnesses, the risen Lord actively reveals Himself, rebukes their hardness of heart, and corrects them with loving urgency. Drawing from Mark 16:9–14, it highlights how Christ's appearances to Mary Magdalene, the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, and the eleven culminate in a direct rebuke for their unbelief, exposing the dangers of preconceived expectations, love for the world, guilt, and indwelling sin. The preacher underscores that true faith is not merely weak but must be continually refined through divine correction, which precedes commission, as Christ's love demands that His followers be made ready for mission through confrontation, not comfort. Ultimately, the sermon calls believers to embrace God's corrective grace, discern between weak faith and willful unbelief, and rest in the historical, eyewitness-verified resurrection as the foundation of Christian hope and salvation, which is secured solely by Christ's perfect work, not human effort.

Together, they dissect the myths of golden and dark ages, revealing the complexities and realities that often go unnoticed. The Myth of the Renaissance:Golden Ages and Dark Ages: Ada argues against the simplistic notions of history being divided into periods of prosperity and decline, exposing the propagandistic origins of these concepts.Historical Narratives: Discover how Renaissance thinkers like Petrarch and Machiavelli grappled with their tumultuous reality, questioning the very nature of progress and the cyclical view of history.Art and Power:Dependency on Wealth: Explore how the creation of iconic art and literature was intrinsically linked to the power dynamics of the time, with artists often reliant on the very tyrants they critiqued. The Dark Side of Patronage: Ada reveals the often-ignored darker aspects of artistic patronage, including the violent political upheavals that shaped the environment in which these masterpieces were created.Inquisition and Control:Plurality of Inquisitions: The discussion delves into the various local inquisitions that operated independently, often co-opted by local powers for their own ends, challenging the singular narrative of the Inquisition.Corruption and Morality: Ada highlights the complex relationship between the Church and the populace, illustrating how corruption was often accepted as part of the societal fabric.Guest Information:Buy Ada's book: Inventing the Renaissance: Myths of a Golden AgeFollow Ada on X: @Adapalmer and on Bluesky: @adapalmer.bskysocial If you're inspired by this episode, consider joining the 'Angry Mob' on Patreon at patreon.com/historyrage for exclusive content, early access, and the iconic History Rage mug.Follow the Rage:- Twitter: @HistoryRage- Paul on Twitter: @PaulBavillFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/HistoryRageInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/historyrageStay curious, stay passionate, and most importantly, stay angry! He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there. And as for those who do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.” Then they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the good news and curing diseases everywhere. It's Wednesday, September 24th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Chinese Communists restrict Christian online content Bitter Winter Magazine reports that Communist officials in China published new rules last week to significantly restrict religious content online. The religious liberty magazine noted, “It effectively criminalizes spontaneous religious expression online, isolates clergy from global religious discourse, and places sacred speech under the watchful eye of state censors.” The regulations allow only registered religious organizations to post preaching and religious education online. Clergy must promote socialist values. And they are specifically prohibited from evangelizing young people, reports China Aid.  But, in Matthew 19:14, Jesus said “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of Heaven.” Hungary to designate Antifa a terrorist group Hungary plans on designating Antifa as a terrorist organization following the example of the United States.  Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently told state media, “Antifa is a terrorist organization. . . . They have come to Hungary, beaten peaceful people in the streets, beaten some half to death.” This comes after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday, designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION. I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated.” Man guilty of Trump assassination attempt tries to stab himself in court Ryan Routh, the madman who holed up in a sniper's nest with an assault rifle at President Trump's West Palm Beach golf club, tried to stab himself with a pen in a Florida courtroom Tuesday after he was convicted of attempting to assassinate the then-GOP nominee, reports the New York Post. The jury noted the 17 “reconnaissance” trips he allegedly made to Trump's golf course, and what they described as his excessive stalking of Trump, prior to the September 15, 2024 incident in question. A dramatic scene unfolded as jurors were leaving the courtroom when Routh took a pen and started trying to jab himself in the neck. Courtroom marshals sprung to action and dragged him out of the room as his daughter, Sara Routh, screamed at her father. She yelled, “Dad I love you. Don't do anything. I'll get you out. He didn't hurt anybody.” There is no video footage of Ryan Routh attempting to stab himself with the pen because cameras were not allowed in the courtroom. A few minutes later, Routh was brought back into the courtroom with shackles on. He wasn't wearing the jacket and tie from earlier and his white shirt didn't show signs of blood. The judge set his sentencing date for December 18, where he will face up to life in prison. Trump rebuked globalism and open borders at United Nations U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly yesterday. President Trump rebuked globalism, unchecked migration, open borders, and climate change activism. Listen. TRUMP: “The entire globalist concept of asking successful industrialized nations to inflict pain on themselves and radically disrupt their entire societies must be rejected completely and totally. And it must be immediate. That's why in America, I withdrew from the fake Paris Climate Accord.” He also called for the protection of religious liberty. TRUMP: “Together, let us defend free speech and free expression. Let us protect religious liberty, including for the most persecuted religion on the planet today. It's called Christianity.” HHS announced review of abortion kill pill LifeNews reports the U.S. Health and Human Services Department is launching a national review of the abortion kill pill mifepristone.  HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. accused the Biden administration of downplaying serious complications of the dangerous drug. Obviously, it is used in the killing of unborn babies. Not surprisingly, it is also linked with serious complications for pregnant women. These include hemorrhage, emergency room visits, and sepsis.  Proverbs 24:11-12 says, “Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, ‘Surely we did not know this,' does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?” CDC no longer recommending MMRV shot for toddlers The vaccine advisory committee for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention adopted new recommendations for the child immunization schedule last Thursday.  In an 8-3 vote, the committee voted to no longer recommend the MMRV vaccine for toddlers. The combination shot is for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella. Instead, the committee recommended a standalone vaccine for varicella, also known as chickenpox, and another shot for the other three infections.    The committee noted increased risk of seizures among toddlers who received the MMRV vaccine.  Most religious state is Mississippi; Least religious state is Vermont Pew Research released data on the religiosity of states in America. The most religious state was Mississippi with 50% of adults expressing a high degree of religiosity. Next up was South Carolina, South Dakota, Louisiana, and Tennessee. The least religious state was Vermont with only 13% of adults expressing a high degree of religiosity. Other states with people of low religiosity were New Hampshire, Maine, Nevada, and Oregon.  Religiosity was measured based on importance of religion, religious attendance, frequency of prayer, and belief in God.  73% of Americans now feel safe in their town And finally, a new survey from Gallup found that more people than ever feel safe where they live despite the rise in conflicts between countries.  Gallup's Global Safety Report found 73% of adults worldwide said they feel safe walking alone at night in their city or area. That's up from 65% in 2006. Feelings of safety are increasing but remain relatively low in sub-saharan Africa and Latin America. The region with the most dramatic increase in feelings of safety since 2006 is post-Soviet Eurasia.  Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, September 24th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com). After all the deep truths covered in 1 John, we see an added “P.S.” in John’s following epistles. Pastor Greg Laurie shares they’re filled with love, warning, and encouragement. Notes: Focus verse - 2 John 1 2nd and 3rd John are filled with love, warning and encouragement. We can find comfort in God’s Word—His ultimate love letter to us. 1st John was written to give assurance to believers.(1 John 5:13) The Bible promises, “He who began a good work in you will complete it.”(Philippians 1:6) Salvation is God’s work from beginning to end. It’s not based on how you feel, it’s based on what Jesus did. John was refuting something called Gnosticism. Gnostics did not believe that God came into this world and walked among us. “If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God.”(1 John 4:2) To be a Christian, you must believe that Jesus was born of a virgin and was God among us; that He was fully God and fully man and He died on the cross for our sins, and He bodily rose three days later and will come again. 1 John can be divided into three sections:1. God is Light (1 John 1:1–2:2)2. God is Love (1 John 2:3–4:21)3. God is Life (1 John 5) Read: 2 John 1:1–3 1. God wants us to walk in truth and love. Truth without love is harsh. Love without truth is hollow. Truth anchors us while love moves us.Truth gives us the message; love gives us the method. Love is obeying the Lord. 2. When we walk in truth and love the devil will be opposing us.(2 John 1:7–8) John has warned us about both Antichrist and Antichrists. 3. God cares about every area of your life.(3 John 1:1–2) “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”(3 John 1:2) God does want us to prosper, but what is Biblical prosperity? In short, it is knowing and walking with God and bringing forth spiritual fruit. God can and will bless you with wealth, but with that wealth comes responsibility.(1 Timothy 6:17–18) If you are blessed financially that’s not a sin, it’s a stewardship. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”(3 John 1:2) God does not heal everyone, but He does still heal today. 4. Coming to Christ is life-changing; continuing with Christ is life-sustaining.(3 John 1:3–4) “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”(3 John 1:4) “A good character is the best tombstone. Those who love you and were helped by you will remember you, so carve your name on hearts, not marble.” —C.H. Spurgeon 5. God’s people should underwrite God’s work.(3 John 1:5–8) It pleases God when we support God’s Word financially.(3 John 1:6) We should not have a discomfort talking or hearing about giving. The Bible speaks more about giving than prayer or faith. There are over 2,000 verses on the topic of money, possessions, and giving. Giving is not just about finances, it’s a test of trust and obedience to God. We share in the reward when we invest our money. 6. There are real and fake believers in the church.(3 John 1:9–11) Ultimately, it is God who will sort out the real and the counterfeit. 7. Be a Demetrius not a Diotrephes.(3 John 1:9, 12) Demetrius v. DiotrephesHad a good testimony. Had a poor testimony.Respected by all. Full Text of ReadingsTuesday of the First Week of Lent Lectionary: 225The Saint of the day is Saint John OgilvieSaint John Ogilvie's Story John Ogilvie's noble Scottish family was partly Catholic and partly Presbyterian. His father raised him as a Calvinist, sending him to the continent to be educated. There, John became interested in the popular debates going on between Catholic and Calvinist scholars. Confused by the arguments of Catholic scholars whom he sought out, he turned to Scripture. Two texts particularly struck him: “God wills all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth,” and “Come to me all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you.” Slowly, John came to see that the Catholic Church could embrace all kinds of people. Among these, he noted, were many martyrs. He decided to become Catholic and was received into the Church at Louvain, Belgium, in 1596 at the age of 17. John continued his studies, first with the Benedictines, then as a student at the Jesuit College at Olmutz. He joined the Jesuits and for the next 10 years underwent their rigorous intellectual and spiritual training. At his ordination to the priesthood in France in 1610, John met two Jesuits who had just returned from Scotland after suffering arrest and imprisonment. John Ogilvie was canonized in 1976, becoming the first Scottish saint since 1250. Enjoy these prayer tips from the saints!
