Lucretia hosts this week's episode with the running theme that there's too much pearl clutching going on among the hand-wringers in Washington and the media. We flop our pearls of wisdom on the Tennessee special election, the J6 bomber arrest, the double-tap bombings on Venezuelan "fishing boats," the Minnesota welfare scandal, and the related immigration control issues it raises. We have some diversions into the latest Trumpian nomenclature, including his rehabilitation of "third world countries" and the "R-word," as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz calls it, and how Sydney Sweeney might react to listening to an episode of the 3WHH (because it is the new Kantian Categorical Imperative that Sydney Sweeney must be kept in the news).Exit music this week is “Clutchin' Pearls,” by Ross Kleiner and the Thrill. Key lyric that does not apply to our hostess with the mostest: “She's so mad/I left her clutchin' pearls!”

Jasmine Crockett sounding increasingly like a 2026 U.S. Senate candidate.First, they're encouraged to see even the New York Times hammering Gov. Tim Walz for failing to stop hundreds of millions of dollars in public assistance fraud on his watch. It's partly because the evidence is irrefutable, but Jim also says the political handwriting is on the wall for last year's Democratic vice presidential nominee. They also point to new data showing California's $20 fast-food minimum wage is playing out exactly as critics predicted. The state lost 19,000 fast-food jobs over the past year while menu prices surged. Jim and Greg explain yet again why this policy cannot work but also question whether Democrats will ever learn. Finally, they rub their hands with glee as Rep. Jasmine Crockett signals she's preparing a U.S. Senate run in Texas next year. Today on 3 Martini Lunch, they discuss good news in an unlikely place in the quest for building trust in elections. They also react to the very different track records for Florida and New York over the past 25 years, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's disturbing affection for China.First, they look at polling showing a strong majority of people in California supporting laws requiring people to prove their citizenship before they can vote. But they also scratch their heads as Nevada's Republican governor vetoes a Voter ID bill because of other provisions in the bill he doesn't like.Next, they look at data showing the stark difference in how much New York and Florida are spending per capita on programs like education and Medicaid. Despite spending almost three times more than Florida per pupil, New York students fared far worse in reading and math. They also consider how the populations of the two states are trending in very different directions. Finally, they dig into why Gov. Walz would suggest China has surpassed the U.S. and other nations as having the most moral authority to broker calm in the Middle East. Walz said this just after Israel's airstrikes began three weeks ago. Enten appears frustrated by the trend, but Jim and Greg explain that the shift is no surprise—Democrats keep ignoring inflation, cost-of-living spikes, and pushing radical economic policies voters don't want.Next, they react to dire warnings from Border Czar Tom Homan, who says the Biden administration's border failures have allowed two million “gotaways” into the country—migrants who deliberately avoided processing at the border. Homan warns it's only a matter of time before some of these individuals commit a major terrorist attack inside the U.S.Finally, they joke about the preemptive presidential campaigns begun by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore. In recent appearances in South Carolina, Walz called Trump a "wannabe dictator" and urged supporters to bully Trump. Meanwhile, Gov. Join Jim and Greg for 3 Martini Lunch as they break down SpaceX's dramatic rescue of American astronauts, Chuck Schumer's struggle to survive mounting pressure from the left, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's relentless bid for political relevance.First, they celebrate the safe return of astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams after their planned eight-day mission stretched into more than nine months aboard the International Space Station. They credit SpaceX and Elon Musk for achieving what Boeing and the federal government could not—while dismissing weak arguments that the astronauts weren't truly stranded.Next, they grab the popcorn as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer faces an uproar from progressives after helping Republicans break the filibuster to keep the government open. With at least one House Democrat calling for new leadership and many others still fuming, Schumer attempted damage control on The View—only to alienate business owners by mocking their complaints over high taxes. Finally, they groan as Gov. Tim Walz keeps forcing himself into the political spotlight with speeches in multiple states. While he has every right to speak out, it's now widely accepted that his addition to Kamala Harris's ticket last year didn't help, and there's little indication he has any lasting influence in the party. Please visit our great sponsors:If I needed to find a doctor quickly, Zocdoc is what I'd use.
